00:00Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:30My family and I have been sailing around the world for the last nine years now.
00:38It's hard to believe that this has been our lives really. Both Riley and I came
00:42from country towns in Australia where sailing is fairly unpopular because of
00:46the howling wind and unforgiving Southern Ocean. Anyway this week we're in
00:51the Cote Pipe Archipelago on a 50-foot trimaran. We were lucky enough to call
00:55home whilst we're in between boats and our new trimaran is still being built.
00:59Home to this island are thousands of long-tail macaques. Cute we initially
01:04thought so until the incident.
01:07Dada why do you like going slow?
01:09It's relaxing dude. I love it.
01:11But I like going fast. Running around and playing.
01:16I'm enjoying the fruits of my labour.
01:18He's either like going so fast or just putting along.
01:22I've pumped up this tender for like an hour.
01:25You're enjoying it. Yes.
01:27Look at the water and then look at those cliffs.
01:30That's insane. That water is gold.
01:34Clear water finally. The marina we were at, the water is so murky but this is what I was after.
01:42A little hectic.
01:44So we're with our friends Forrest and Layla who you can see on the right here.
01:48They'd come to help us sail this 50-foot trimaran. As you can imagine it's a lot
01:51to sail, try and be a mum, cook and clean and also try and have fun at the same
01:55time. It takes a village especially since our youngest is getting closer to
01:59two and it's just running a month.
02:06What's the monkey situation? We're trying to find one.
02:10We can't attract them. I think probably the people in the boats now are scaring them.
02:14We'd have to come back at sunset or something.
02:16Having just sailed here we hadn't really done any research on the island itself.
02:21Had we have known that this beach is notorious for monkey attacks we
02:25wouldn't have gone. Okay we're about to snorkel. The water is so warm.
02:39I don't know what's happening but everyone's gathered on the beach and my
02:42kids are screaming. Like I think it's a monkey situation.
02:47I could not swim to the beach fast enough.
02:55Oh they're going into the...
03:25They're going through the bag.
03:33I need to mention here that we had not a single scrap of food in our bags.
03:39What we did have however was wallets, phones, cameras and even a passport.
03:47Watch the camera.
03:55Watch the camera.
04:03My phone's just under that hat. I think we'll be alright though.
04:07The monkeys were determined to rummage through our bags and take whatever they could.
04:15I've been in a punch up with a dozen monkeys.
04:19That's a monkey tooth.
04:21A little bit hurt. It's okay though mate.
04:24It protected you though that's for sure.
04:26What happened?
04:28Wait till you watch this video Elena.
04:32Riley took on 10 monkeys single handed.
04:36Are you okay?
04:40That's from him hitting them.
04:44I punched out two monkeys.
04:48They tried to attack Darwin.
04:50I'm not even joking.
04:53I was snorkeling around a sea of lemony.
04:55Looking at a freaking clown fish.
04:57All I hear is screaming.
04:59I see you. You fall over.
05:01I'm like what is going on?
05:03Are you okay? You're shaking.
05:05It was full of adrenaline.
05:07Do you need a rabies shot or something?
05:09Maybe.
05:11It's his tooth.
05:15I want to say really I feel bad for punching a monkey.
05:19I'm not kidding babe.
05:21They went for Darwin.
05:23It was hectic.
05:25It was actually scary.
05:27It could have scarred him for life.
05:29None of those people helped.
05:31It was astonishing.
05:33There's 20 people, 30 people around us.
05:35Really?
05:37That crowd.
05:39We were totally full of adrenaline here
05:41and laughing but it should be noted
05:43especially to any new viewers
05:45that Riley actually doesn't enjoy punching animals
05:48He's mostly a really nice guy
05:50and I hope our regular viewers will confirm this in the comments.
05:52Anyway, we'd quickly learn
05:54that the monkeys had the last laugh
05:56for all that Riley was about to go through.
05:58Lenny literally said
06:00is it going to get me?
06:02And I was like no mate.
06:04And they just went for Darwin.
06:06So far you've punched a pig.
06:08You've punched a duck haven't you?
06:10Yeah.
06:12Who was the duck going for? Lenny.
06:14I don't remember.
06:17I guess because we hang out
06:19around animals probably more than most people
06:21I find myself having to protect them.
06:23Just a quick reminder
06:25to subscribe guys. It's free to do so
06:27and it means you won't miss next week's video.
06:29I'm really glad the boys didn't get bitten.
06:31Yeah.
06:33That would have been horrific.
06:35So it says
06:37there's a risk of rabies and also
06:39herpes B virus.
06:41It does say rabies.
06:43Yeah. In any case
06:45if you get bitten by mammals
06:47no matter how harmless it looks immediately go get
06:49vaccinations. Without prophylaxis
06:51rabies always ends deadly.
06:53Yeah. We're going to get you.
06:55That is so inconvenient.
06:57What's weird is I might have
06:59rabies now.
07:01I could have rabies
07:03in my
07:05replicating insides.
07:07What a disgusting thought.
07:09So we're just heading into town to get Riley that shot.
07:11I think we're all going to get a few more shots.
07:13Just for fun.
07:15It has been such an eventful trip so far.
07:17Hospital is a walking distance.
07:23You think I'll need a tetanus
07:25and rabies?
07:27Yeah. Tetanus, rabies.
07:29Do you see many monkey bites here?
07:31Yes. One or two people per day
07:33that has a monkey bite.
07:35Yes. Don't trust monkeys.
07:37Don't trust it. Yeah.
07:39I haven't had any rabies
07:41shots. I called
07:43mum, dad, the dudes that I've
07:45travelled with. It didn't come up on the Australian
07:47Immuno Register.
07:49So I've called the doctor as well.
07:51And then Elaine has called a doctor that we both went to.
07:53It doesn't look like
07:55I've ever had a rabies shot. So I need to have
07:57five or more
07:59needles into my
08:01wound or around it.
08:03Then
08:05five shots over
08:0720 days and then another
08:09shot today. So two shots today
08:11and five in my finger.
08:13And then another four shots over the next
08:1520 days. You're brave enough to punch
08:17a monkey babe. You're brave enough for this
08:19needle.
08:21I think he needs to lay down.
08:33You alright?
08:35Honestly I feel a little embarrassed for passing
08:37out. I've never done anything like
08:39that in my life. That's not embarrassing. That looks brutal.
08:41Like needles on the back of your finger.
08:47Oh I was going to warn you about
08:49the monkeys. They're fearless. Some
08:51swim out to boats. Rabies
08:53five shots in the arm over a few weeks.
08:55Had dogs have a go at me
08:57some weeks ago and got rabies
08:59shots and tetanus. So that's
09:01from Richard. A member of
09:03the team, we're not going to disclose
09:05who. Could be the kids
09:07could be me or Elayna, could be
09:09Layla or Forrest.
09:11Has explosive diarrhea.
09:13So we were just on time
09:15to come back to the dinghy because
09:17this is a massive sandbar. We read in the
09:19sail guide luckily that low tide
09:21if you're not careful and you
09:23just don't realise, your
09:25dinghy can be there and you'll have to walk it
09:27hundreds of metres across the sand. You'll drag it.
09:29Drag it.
09:32We got back
09:34to the boat, tried to get the sand off everything
09:36we could.
09:38Made some coffees, Riley fired up the engine
09:40we dropped the mooring ball and now we're headed
09:42to our new anchorage. We're heading
09:44further and further out into deeper
09:46deeper water and more
09:48remote islands. Riley's feeling a lot
09:50better now.
10:01Riley's
10:08poor body is being stripped right now
10:10with antibiotics. So we're going to pump him
10:12full of the good stuff again. Pre-antibiotics
10:14it has antioxidants, adaptogens
10:16and what we love the most about it is that
10:18it really tastes so nice and it gives
10:20you this energy boost. I like to have it first
10:22thing in the morning with a bit of ice.
10:24It comes in bags, also travel
10:26packs which is super convenient.
10:28Can you hear her?
10:34And there you go, it's done. Ready to be drunk.
10:40Thank you. If you've been meaning to give AG1
10:42a go, now is your time. They're going to give you
10:44five travel packs for free as well as
10:46a year's supply of their vitamin D3
10:48and K2 with your first purchase. You can just
10:50head to athleticgreens.com forward slash
10:52SLV or I'll pop the link in the
10:54description box below. Feel the difference.
10:59Oh, fire!
11:01Rudder is
11:032.4 metres deep.
11:05It's low tide which is good so we'll have
11:07direct, correct information
11:09from the depth sensor.
11:11We'll go in to no shallower
11:13than 3 metres. On our
11:15boat, Elena, we're going to be able to lift
11:17the rudder. I can probably lift
11:19this one but it's going to be
11:21a process to learn. All of this is important
11:23so that you can anchor
11:25in the perfect spot.
11:27The wind disappeared on us throughout
11:29the day so we turned on the engines
11:31and decided to use the power to run
11:33the water maker as well.
11:41Hey, what are you doing out here? Yeah, so we're just
11:43looking for, there's a lot of fishing pots
11:45as we're coming in. I think they've thinned out a little bit
11:47but, yeah, we just don't want to get a
11:49prop wrap in the dark. It wouldn't be too much
11:51fun so, yeah. Had it not
11:53been for the rabies situation, we
11:55would have been in this anchorage when the sun
11:57was still up. We're coming in in the night. We're
11:59probably going to anchor behind everyone.
12:01We'll see how we go.
12:05And we haven't eaten.
12:07It's nearly 8pm but Leila has
12:09cooked us a chilli
12:11pot. Hopefully I can put the kids to bed
12:13and we can all enjoy our dinner.
12:15Ah, there's Lenny!
12:17Where's Darwin?
12:19Darwin!
12:23I found him! We all just saw
12:25a fire twirler on the beach.
12:27If we had enough energy we would totally go.
12:29Restaurants along the beach, it just looks
12:31really lively. Maybe we will.
12:33Let's see.
12:35Cheers guys!
12:37Cheers!
12:45We woke up to see
12:47Koh Lanta in all it's glory.
12:49A sandy fringe all along this west
12:51coast where we were anchored. It's commonly
12:53regarded as one of the best islands
12:55in Thailand and deliciously unspoilt
12:57because, I guess, of how difficult
12:59it is to get here.
13:05I'm a little annoyed
13:07that I have to do a course of antibiotics.
13:09You'll be fine.
13:11So I've got to do a hardcore dose of
13:13antibiotics and then
13:15go in over the next 21
13:17days and have 4 more
13:19injections.
13:21I couldn't sleep last night. Honestly
13:23you know
13:25as I was trying to sleep
13:27I kept thinking of being attacked by monkeys.
13:29Really? Yeah. Being in a fight
13:31again. So my adrenaline would be like
13:33when I was lying down
13:35I'd just think of
13:37Darwin and what would I
13:39have done this and I would have punched in like that
13:41and then imagine if 3 of them
13:43came at me and I was just going over
13:45and over the scenario. I couldn't
13:47stop and I couldn't get to
13:49sleep at all. What are you doing now?
13:51I've been making notes.
13:53I'm reading the manuals of this boat.
13:55This boat is very similar to ours.
13:57So I'm reading the
13:59manuals and making notes and
14:01calling people at Rapido
14:03and making a nuisance of myself.
14:05No, I'm getting involved in the project
14:07and to be perfectly
14:09honest I think I'm pretty good
14:11out here on the water to be
14:13providing feedback and I've never been
14:15able to give such detailed
14:17and I think
14:19helpful feedback so I'm really
14:21happy about that. 6 knots
14:23of wind today and we could
14:25be sailing
14:2730 nautical miles where we're going so it would
14:29take us all day and Riley's
14:31just thrashed from the medication
14:33and probs, rabies
14:35still circulating in his body
14:37so yeah we're motoring
14:39and just tying knots again
14:41Just about to set sail
14:43here and there's a
14:45dead giveaway of where Lenny's been
14:53What knot's that one called Lenny?
14:55Senor. Senor?
14:57Yeah. Okay we've just stopped
14:59the boat because up ahead looks
15:01like a giant sandbar
15:03and like it's super
15:05shallow. Hard to
15:07tell it could also just be floating sand
15:09Keep going I think we should
15:11go that way. It was just floating
15:13sand. It was an upwelling from the currents
15:15Phuket we found to be fairly
15:17easy to navigate and it's a fairly popular
15:19place for cruisers although we probably
15:21only saw maybe a dozen
15:23other sailboats on our voyage
15:27The wind tonight
15:29goes from south west
15:31to north east it does that kind
15:33of every day. I was just checking the weather
15:35to make sure that there wasn't going to be something from the south
15:37because it would be unprotected but
15:39it's the perfect spot for where the wind is going to be
15:41tonight. So are you going to do a circle
15:43and drop it in the middle?
15:45That didn't sound like a question
15:47Yeah. Do the circle
15:49and drop it in the middle
15:516 to 8 right in the middle
15:53Thailand's coastal regions have what's
15:55known as the north east monsoon
15:57which is the dry season and then the south west
15:59monsoon which is the rainy season
16:01and lasts from July to October
16:03It can rain for anywhere
16:05up to 5 days non-stop
16:07at a time here which I'm very glad that we
16:09missed out on. Well we've anchored
16:11I'm pretty sure it's rock. Well we need
16:13to be anchored in sand
16:15for me to have a good night's sleep
16:17I'll probably
16:19jump in and have a dive around
16:21and have a think unless you
16:23want to Elayna because I've been attacked
16:33That anchor couldn't be set better
16:35beautiful sandy bottom
16:37no rocks at all actually
16:57So far so good
16:59Yep
17:01So Forrest
17:03asked a lady at a cafe today
17:05about the monkeys and she said
17:07they're that evil everywhere
17:09and you have to be careful. The best thing to do is to carry
17:11a stick. Two to be safe
17:15Quick quick quick
17:17it's going behind the rock
17:23Hey
17:25Hello
17:27Hello
17:33Hello
