00:00Joining us are some of the artists from Unexpecting. Tell us a little bit about this. What's the
00:06genesis of the film? What can audiences expect?
00:09Well, my best friend, Selah, is the star of the movie, and it just so happened that she
00:13was really pregnant in real life with her third baby, and we thought we needed to document
00:16this in some funny way. So we wrote a movie about a woman who finds out she's pregnant,
00:23but she has to deliver in 20 minutes. She's nine months pregnant. So it's very farcical,
00:27it's very silly, it's very bright and funny, and yeah, we had a great time making it.
00:3220 minutes! Yes, it was such a labor of love. I'm not sorry. Because it was directed by
00:44Kelly, it's her directorial debut to be directed by my best friend and to co-star with my husband
00:48was truly a big deal and really fun.
00:52Tell us a little bit about that, your directorial debut. How does that compare to other projects
00:56you've been in?
00:57You know, I've directed theater before, but what made this different was I had this incredible
01:02director of photography, Alessandro Gentile, who laid out every single shot. So we came
01:07into our day extremely prepared. We knew exactly what we wanted, thanks to him. Every shot
01:12looked beautiful, and it really was nice because I was coming from a place of knowing how an
01:18actor thinks, and I think the actors like that. We had a really good day. We did make
01:22our day as far as shots, and so it was a learning experience, but it really was a positive
01:27experience too.
01:28And she was so good. Like, this is a talent that just came naturally for Kelly. All of
01:33the actors, we were all like talking, oh my gosh, she's so good. She let us play, she
01:37let us improv, but she knew what she wanted, so she didn't waste our time. You know, it
01:40was really great. She did such a great job.
01:43Sounds like a wonderful experience working with your best friend. I mean, that's everybody's
01:46dream. So when audiences watch this, what are they going to leave the theater feeling,
01:52or what do you hope they will?
01:53You know, we do not get enough laughter in our day, and I think laughter is good medicine.
01:58So that's really all we were going for, is someone to realize that life is short, no
02:04pun intended for me, but just have a laugh. It'll help you get through your day.
02:09Well, hey girl, we got the heels on. We gotta help ourselves a little bit. No shame in that.
02:16What about you? What's an emotion that you want the audiences to have?
02:19Oh, same. Just laughter. I feel like in these times, we need to laugh, we need to have fun,
02:25and also to make sure you know if you're nine months pregnant. I mean, little life lesson
02:30there, you know. You never know. As women, you know, we never know.
02:36Yeah, pay attention.
02:37Yeah, pay attention.
02:38Well, hey, thank you both so much for joining me on the red carpet. Congratulations on Unexpecting,
02:44and congrats on your premiere here at the Burbank Film Festival.
02:48Thanks so much.
02:49Thank you. Have a wonderful night.
