00:00Elephant conservation is always a very difficult subject and one of the most difficult things
00:06about elephant conservation is really understanding the status of elephant across Africa.
00:12You look at one part of Africa, take southern Tanzania for example, and the elephants have
00:16been so heavily poached that they're actually critically endangered in that part of the
00:20world.
00:21Then you take an area like northeastern Botswana for example, and they're highly overpopulated.
00:25So really understanding elephant population is more of a conversation than it is a statement.
00:34Specifically as it relates to Zimbabwe, we've got a very interesting scenario that has unfolded
00:39there.
00:40On private land, there's a couple of really large private land conservancies that have
00:44become overpopulated.
00:46They've become overpopulated because of exceptional anti-poaching, exceptional protection and
00:51an exceptional conservation model that is truly turning very, very well.
01:02You look at this and you can't imagine that this is 1.2 million acres of wild Africa that
01:08not long ago, just three decades ago, was absolutely 100% just cattle country and it's
01:15been fully restored.
