00:00I did not want to go to medical school.
00:03I didn't want to be a doctor, but my father said that really was the only choice that I had.
00:07It was either going to be lawyer, doctor, or failure.
00:12I grew up in Southern California.
00:15My parents are both immigrants who came over from Vietnam in the mid-70s.
00:19Growing up financially, we didn't have a lot.
00:22I remember that going to McDonald's was a luxury.
00:26I went to Whittier College in Southern California.
00:28I actually won a full-ride scholarship there.
00:31And I went to study biology in preparation for medical school.
00:36I didn't want to be a doctor, but my father said that really was the only choice that I had.
00:41I had told him I wanted to be a fashion designer.
00:44This is something I knew in my bones that I always wanted to do.
00:47And I didn't rebel until I was halfway through college and realized,
00:52this is actually not what I want to do with the rest of my life.
00:55I decided to drop out of organic chemistry, which was the last class I needed to take the MCAT.
01:00And so when I did that, it really ruined our relationship.
01:03So Blogilates started as a YouTube channel in 2009.
01:07I was moving from LA to the East Coast for my first job in fashion.
01:12And all my students at my local 24-Hour Fitness in LA were like,
01:17well, who's going to teach us pop Pilates?
01:19There was no one to replace me.
01:20And so I recorded a 10-minute video and I uploaded it to a website called YouTube.
01:25And I was like, okay, well, here you go.
01:26You guys click on this link.
01:28If you ever miss me.
01:29Little did I know that I was going to get more than the views of the students in that class,
01:33which was like 40.
01:34I got thousands of views and hundreds of comments from people from all over the world,
01:37asking for more.
01:39Both Blogilates and Popflex as their own brands are their own eight-figure businesses.
01:44Popflex is my performance activewear brand that
01:48honestly is now launching into more than just activewear.
01:51It's women's apparel and it fulfills that original childhood dream
01:55of wanting to become a fashion designer.
01:57It's all been bootstrapped, all my own money, no investors.
