Bad news for Mac?
Could Belichick coach the Jaguars? Right now, would you rather have Drake Maye or Trevor Lawrence?
Transcript
00:00several landing spots for Bill Belichick next season, which are not being discussed.
00:07Um, and you brought up the Bengals based on the way the season has begun for them.
00:17Yep.
00:17You brought up the Ravens, which is a wild one.
00:21Well, if you really, you know, if you put on your aluminum, what is it?
00:26Aluminum hat, your tinfoil hat, and you start going down the wormhole.
00:30There was audio of something that Lamar Jackson said after the game.
00:35We know Bill loves Lamar Jackson.
00:38And we know Lamar and Habbaugh kind of have been button heads for a while.
00:44Habbaugh has been there forever, but he can't get them over the hump.
00:48Last time they won a Superbowl was 2012.
00:50Well, there is an NFL insider, Curtis,
00:54who suggests they know where Bill will end up next season.
00:57Yeah.
00:57So on the Bill Simmons podcast over the weekend and, uh, he was, sorry,
01:02there's crazy things potentially happening in the world that we can't discuss yet.
01:05Um, so yeah, that, that, we gotta get it.
01:09Gotta get another source.
01:10I've just reached out to somebody.
01:12That story is, if that's accurate, it's wild, but go ahead.
01:16Yeah.
01:16Sorry.
01:17Uh, so, um, let's get to, can we get to the important stuff?
01:20Okay.
01:21So, uh, Bill Belichick is a free agent and this gentleman, Mr. Ruiz, I think it's Stephen Ruiz.
01:28Correct.
01:28On the Ringer podcast discusses what he believes to be the destination that Bill is heading to.
01:34Bill Belichick is going to be coaching the Jaguars next season and we'll know it by New Year's.
01:38Like it won't be official, but it will be the worst kept secret in the NFL that Joe,
01:43that Bill Belichick is going to be the next coach of the Jaguars.
01:45Well, first of all, I know some beat reporters down in Jacksonville and I think,
01:48you know, there's already whispers there.
01:50I'll, I'll, I'll start with that.
01:51I think like the way ShotKhan is kind of ramping up his coaching hirings.
01:55Like he starts with like the no-name GM who are no-name defensive coordinator and Gus Bradley.
02:01That doesn't work out.
02:02He goes with Doug Marone.
02:03He goes the other side, another, you know, assistant.
02:05And then he goes for the splash hire.
02:07He goes with Irvin Meyer, the guy who's won, but he hasn't won at this level.
02:10And then the next one is Doug Peterson, the guy that's won at this level, but hasn't done it
02:14consistently.
02:14The one who hasn't like done it again.
02:16I think next in line is, is Bill Belichick.
02:18And then my, the real reason why I believe this is because like we talked about earlier,
02:22like ShotKhan is a hands-off owner.
02:25I don't think he's going to get spooked like Atlanta did when Bill Belichick comes in and
02:28goes, I want to run the organization like this.
02:31I want to have GM powers.
02:32I want to be able to hire my own coordinators.
02:34I want to be able to like decide the, the direction of this franchise.
02:39I like it.
02:41Ah, bad news for Mac Jones.
02:43Oh yeah.
02:44That's Bill's first move.
02:45He's going to get his ass cut quick.
02:48I have a question for the room.
02:49Which would you rather have as an organization?
02:52What the Jags have right now, or what the Patriots have at quarterback?
02:59Um, we don't know.
03:02We don't know what Drake may exactly.
03:04That's the problem, but that could be a boat.
03:07I'll take Drake May.
03:08I'd take Drake May.
03:09Really?
03:10Yeah.
03:10I Trevor Lawrence has had many years.
03:13I don't think he's the real problem, but I don't think he's a guy that elevates at this
03:19point.
03:19You should be elevating people and he's not.
03:21I also, it is, it always, it is big about the coaches that you have, right?
03:26And it's really big about who the coach is.
03:29The guy that's coaching.
03:30Well, didn't Peterson come in as the quarterback whisper that one with folds.
03:33Yeah.
03:34I mean, that's a good point.
03:35That almost got Carson Wentz and MVP.
03:37Yeah, that is a good point.
03:38So, you know, maybe, maybe it isn't the coach in that case.
03:41Didn't he make the playoffs his first season?
03:45No, not his first season, his second season.
03:46It was the first season with Doug Peterson.
03:48Right.
03:48And they came back from what was like 28, nothing against the chargers and ended up
03:51winning that game.
03:52Right.
03:52I believe you had Herbert in that game.
03:54I tell you, that's a, I mean, that's a good landing spot for bill, but I still think there
03:58are going to be other opportunities out there that are going to be more ready.
04:02Organizations.
04:03We've talked about Dallas.
04:05We've talked about Philadelphia.
04:08Buffalo looks like they're good, but who the hell knows what happens.
04:12But if they get bounced in the first round, are they really.
04:16If Buffalo doesn't reach the AFC championship, I'm with wiggy.
04:19They call Belichick.
04:20The jets is another one.
04:23You know, I, I just think bill is going to pick an organization where he thinks he can
04:28win it all quick.
04:29Yeah.
04:30And that's, that's why I don't know.
04:32I don't know.
04:32I think that's the Cowboys.
04:33I don't, I don't think that's the Jaguars.
04:36I don't think that's the, I mean, I don't know.
04:39Maybe it is the jets.
04:40I guess it's, it's Cowboys or nothing.
04:43In my opinion, Eagles, Eagles, Eagles.
04:45Also, no BC has got a great coach.
04:48That coach will be on with us Thursday.
04:50Bill O'Brien cannot wait.
04:52Thursday, six 45 on this show.
04:54Um, but I mean, it's the most ready organization.
04:59If you were to drop bill in, I'll tell you.
05:05I liked the jets.
05:07I like, cause out of the three quarterbacks, Dak Prescott and Jalen hurts.
05:13And Aaron Rogers, I would say, obviously if Aaron Rogers is healthy.
05:18Yeah.
05:18He's the better of the three.
05:19It's going to be, what is he going to be 41 next season?
05:22Yeah.
05:22But it's only going to be for, you know, one or two years.
05:24I mean, that, that's it.
05:26That's all it's going to be.
05:26I'm not saying if you're, if, if bill was coming back to coach and he was going to be
05:30coaching for, let's say the next seven or eight years, I would probably say, ah, maybe
05:34Dallas is a better landing spot for him because Dak Prescott will be there for a while or
05:39even Philadelphia, but I'd probably lean more towards Dallas.
05:42Um, but when you start to look at just like one or two years, the rosters that are in place.
05:50Has bill done enough Curtis to change the image that may be out there around him and
05:56relating to young players and being a hard ass and whatever the issue was when it came to
06:03Arthur blank and the rest of them there, I could just talk for the fans of other teams
06:08outside the region.
06:09One of my best friends is from Philadelphia.
06:11I was talking with him over the weekend in Philly.
06:13They are ready for bill over Sirianni.
06:15There is not that angst that exists, you know, cause it's not your team.
06:19You don't feel that day-to-day day-to-day thing.
06:21The Eagles are right on the cusp of a championship.
06:24They believe Nick Sirianni is impeding their growth and they want Belichick.
06:29And all you need are one or two teams, right?
06:31And you don't think Dallas fans would love Belichick.
06:34Of course they would.
06:35Right.
06:35That's why I said Dallas fans jets fans would love Belichick.
