REV jumped at the chance to test a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ – one of only 900 of these supercars ever built. Its sound, power and torque are monstrous, and so are its fuel consumption and price tag!

00:00A day out in a Lamborghini so special it turns people green with envy.
00:10I am very pleased to announce that today I will drive the greenest car I have ever driven in my whole life.
00:18At least in terms of exterior colour. Ladies and gentlemen, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
00:24The Aventador SVJ was built for a niche set of drivers.
00:27Limited to just 900 units, the car sold out very quickly, so getting behind the wheel of one is near impossible.
00:34Which is why revs tester Martis was thrilled to put it through its paces.
00:40At low speeds in the city you really recognise that this car screams to be driven on a track or at least outside of the city.
00:51It's not made for low speeds, it's really made for high speed driving on the motorway, on the racetrack, wherever you can and wherever you are allowed to drive fast.
01:10The 6.5 litre engine which delivers 566 kilowatts of power helps the SVJ hit the tonne in 2.8 seconds.
01:19It takes 8.6 seconds to get to the 200 mark and 24 seconds to cross 300 kilometres an hour.
01:27The car's top speed? A somewhat bonkers number just north of 350 kilometres per hour.
01:34This Aventador SVJ, you really feel that it sticks to the road because of the aerodynamic optimisation.
01:44You have 40% more downforce on this Aventador SVJ as on the regular Aventador and you never have the feeling that the car is not controllable.
01:56You can really go through curves at such a high speed that the passenger gets sick as a driver, you don't feel uncomfortable with it.
02:09It's really unbelievable how good this car handles on the road.
02:15And it doesn't make any difference if you're driving downhill or uphill, it's just impressive what this 6.5 litre V12 pushes to the wheels.
02:34Without turbo or compressor, just a naturally aspirated engine, that's incredible.
02:40Of course, the Aventador SVJ could well be amongst the last of a dying breed,
02:45with Lamborghini also considering going the hybrid and all-electric route soon in order to meet EU emission regulations.
02:58As you probably know, for example, from one of the most iconic Lamborghini models, the Countach,
03:04the doors at these cars don't necessarily open the way they do with other cars, but with the Aventador, the doors open like this.
03:15This is quite good when you're in a narrow parking lot, but you have to take care that the ceiling is high enough so you don't damage the door.
03:24At 4.9 metres long, 2.2 metres wide and just over a metre high, the SVJ looks every inch a Lamborghini built for speed.
03:33Aiding its driving dynamics, the ALA 2.0 aerodynamics system, which actively varies the aerodynamic load depending on the dynamic conditions.
03:43The use of electronic actuators makes the system 80% lighter than conventional systems,
03:49The SVJ's impressive interior, too, with high-quality materials and excellent workmanship, is something you should be able to expect in this price range.
04:05And the seats offer good lateral support, ideal while driving fast, but can't be adjusted for comfort.
04:11As the Aventador SVJ is more or less the last Lamborghini with a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine without any toppings,
04:21probably you all want to see what's underneath this bonnet.
04:26But for that, I need to show you something.
04:29But for that, I need to show you something.
04:31But for that, I need to show you something.
04:33toppings probably you all want to see what's underneath this bonnet but for
04:40that I need a little help because it's too heavy to do it on your own and it's
04:49hot. Isn't this beautiful this v12 engine and it's so hot I'm sure you
05:05could fry an egg on that. The Aventador SVJ is equipped with an all-wheel drive
05:13system it also features all-wheel steering that takes the handling of this
05:17super sports car to the next level but there is one part of the powertrain
05:22that's a little outdated. The Aventador is equipped with a 7-speed automated
05:29gearbox with one clutch this takes a little bit of getting used to because
05:34nowadays most cars are equipped with dual clutch transmissions which shift
05:38faster than this one and especially when it shifts in a curve it could get a
05:44little bit problematic when the road is slippery. That being said the SVJ is a
05:52car that's aimed at driving enthusiasts who might be willing to put up with its
05:56little idiosyncrasies especially given that it loves tackling the tarmac at
06:01terrific speeds.
06:12The most complicated things when driving the Aventador SVJ is probably getting in
06:20and out of the car but there are also some other things that you have to get
06:26used to for example the automatic gearbox with only one clutch so it's a
06:32little bit tricky to drive on slippery roads we didn't have today fortunately
06:37and at some point it feels as if the car is already some years old which it
06:43actually is that's why it isn't built anymore it was limited to 900 pieces but
06:49driving with this very special edition of the Aventador the Aventador SVJ is
06:55definitely something I can talk about with my friends and colleagues for a
07:00very very long time. The incredible sound and the power on offer as well as the
07:05driving dynamics make the Aventador SVJ stand out but the high fuel consumption
07:11and the enormous price tag used SVJs currently cost close to a million euros
07:16are definite downsides to this machine.
