00:00Janet Jackson's rep shut down an apology issued on her behalf after she mistakenly claims Vice
00:05President Kamala Harris is not black.
00:08In an interview with The Guardian, a reporter brought up the U.S. election, saying to Janet
00:12that Kamala Harris could be the first black female president of the United States, to
00:17which Ms. Jackson replied,
00:18"'She's not black.
00:20That's what I heard.
00:21That she's Indian.'
00:22Continuing,
00:23"'Her father's white.
00:24That's what I was told.
00:25I mean, I haven't watched the news in a few days.
00:27I was told that they discovered her father was white.'"
00:30She didn't let the reporter know where she heard this false information, but did say
00:34about the election,
00:35"'Either way it goes, it's going to be mayhem.'"
00:38After that interview, a man named Mo El-Masri issued an apology on her behalf, saying her
00:43comments on the vice president were based on misinformation.
00:46Janet's rep stepped in and told People mag that El-Masri is not Janet's manager, nor
00:51is he affiliated with her camp.
00:53The rep says Randy Jackson is Janet's manager.
00:56El-Masri spoke to Variety saying,
00:58"'I no longer work for her.
00:59I was fired by Janet and Randy after attempts to improve her image in front of public opinion
01:05and her fans.
01:06And this is something I do not deserve.'"
01:08But sources close to Janet's team told Variety El-Masri is not known to have been directly
01:13associated with the singer.
