00:00Assalamualaikum, today our topic of discussion is Facilitated Diffusion.
00:07In the previous lecture, we have studied about Simple Diffusion.
00:12Diffusion means to move molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration.
00:19So, there is a process of diffusion in our body.
00:24The outer covering of the cell is called cell membrane.
00:29It acts as a semi-permeable membrane.
00:33Some molecules enter the cell and some do not.
00:38Through this semi-permeable membrane,
00:43some molecules enter the substance cell and some come out of the cell.
00:50So, the small molecules like oxygen, carbon dioxide, water etc.
00:58easily enter the cell through the semi-permeable membrane and come out of the cell.
01:06While some large molecules do not easily pass through the semi-permeable membrane.
01:15For example, sugar, iron, glucose etc.
01:22These large molecules do not easily pass through the semi-permeable membrane.
01:30So, how do these molecules enter the cell?
01:37They enter the cell through facilitated diffusion.
01:43Facilitated diffusion means to move molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration through protein channels.
01:55So, there are protein channels in the cell membrane through which large molecules enter the cell and come out of the cell.
02:07This is called facilitated diffusion.
02:11Facilitated diffusion is also a type of passive transport because it does not use energy.
