00:00Three big wigs have contested, Edo State residents have shown up, votes have been counted and

00:11a winner has finally been declared.

00:13Monde Okpebolu of the All Progressives Congress today, the 22nd of September, has been announced

00:19winner of the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial elections by the Independent National Electoral

00:26Commission, INEC, with a total of 291,667 votes.

00:32While the People's Democratic Party trailed behind with a total of 247,274 votes, the

00:39Labour Party came in third place with a total of 22,761 votes, bringing the long-anticipated

00:47day to an end.

00:48Although the events of the day were marked with cries of foul play and demonstrations

00:53from the agitated People's Democratic Party PDP protesters, the future of Edo State now

01:04lies in the hands of the newly elected government.

01:07Will this be a turning point in the course of Edo State, or will the people yet again

01:12cry out for a messiah?

01:14Only time will tell.
