00:00Allah Huwa Allah Huwa Allah Huwa Allah
00:09Alhamdulillah, I'm sure you have achieved a lot.
00:16I see a lot of growth in the school as well, it seems,
00:19because obviously the numbers are much greater
00:22and we thank Allah for this.
00:24I want to ask a few questions to you, my beloved children.
00:28Something extremely important and that is,
00:30if you have a video game and you have a game of football out there,
00:38which one do you prefer?
00:44Okay, okay, let me tell you what I prefer.
00:49Okay, okay, all right, that's fine.
00:54I would prefer a football game out there
00:58because I am actually mixing with real people,
01:02someone I can talk to, I can interact and so on.
01:05So for me, it's much better to play a game where I mix with people.
01:09I'm not a fan of football, but I would prefer it to a video game.
01:13Although the video games seem to be much more interesting,
01:16but I'm going to be on a phone
01:18and if something happens, I can't do anything.
01:21But if I mix with a person,
01:23I can at least have an interaction with another human being
01:27and there is ajr and there is a reward in that.
01:29Did you hear what I said?
01:31So if I play with a friend of mine as a little child,
01:34it's better for me as a Muslim to be playing with another person
01:39and to be giving them light in their life
01:42than for me to just sit closed on a little phone
01:44and keep on tapping the screen.
01:47We tap the screen, isn't it?
01:49Nowadays you get these car games
01:52where you can drive whatever vehicle you want
01:54and when you win the race, you can get another vehicle.
01:57You can open the lock. Am I right?
01:59You can open the lock. I don't think it's Lightning McQueen.
02:02It's something much faster than Lightning McQueen.
02:06And at the same time,
02:08when that happens, you become a person
02:10who doesn't like to talk to others.
02:12You don't like to mix and interact.
02:14So what would happen?
02:15When someone is talking,
02:16your mind would be somewhere else in totality.
02:18You wouldn't even be listening.
02:20And this is something dangerous.
02:22It's not good.
02:22You know, when your parents tell you,
02:24if your name is Muhammad,
02:25Muhammad, come here.
02:26And you haven't heard a thing, nothing.
02:28You didn't hear a thing.
02:30And the minute they say there's chocolates here,
02:32suddenly you heard everything
02:33and you were there for the chocolates.
02:34MashaAllah.
02:35You were there for the chocolates.
02:37Allahu Akbar.
02:38You know, in Qatar,
02:39I prefer not to eat chocolates.
02:41Guess why?
02:41Can anyone guess why?
02:43Yes.
02:46Yes, in the blue there.
02:47MashaAllah.
02:48Yes, with the glasses, Habibi.
02:55No, my reason is a little bit different,
02:57not the calories and so on.
02:58It's because it melts in the weather.
03:00It just melts.
03:01The other time I brought chocolates
03:02when I came here,
03:03even this time,
03:04I brought quite a few chocolates with me
03:06and they all melted
03:07and they're all like, you know,
03:10soft chocolates that you don't even enjoy.
03:12By the time you open them,
03:13your hand is eating more than your mouth.
03:15May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala forgive us.
03:18So, the truth is,
03:20here in this beautiful country,
03:22it's important also for us to mix with one another,
03:25to talk to people.
03:26And when you talk to someone,
03:28you see, when I'm with a phone
03:30and when I'm with my video games,
03:32I'm using the word phone,
03:33but whether it's an iPod
03:34or whatever else it is that you use,
03:36a little computer game,
03:39what do they call them?
03:40Playstations and so on.
03:42All that is,
03:43if I were with it or on it,
03:46I wouldn't really be fighting.
03:47You know, I wouldn't be fighting with someone.
03:50But when I'm playing a game with people,
03:53guess what happens?
03:54Sometimes you end up fighting.
03:56Am I right?
03:57Sometimes you disagree
03:59and sometimes a person scores a goal
04:01and you want to tell them they were offside
04:03and they say, we were not offside
04:04and then it causes a quarrel.
04:06That is so good.
04:07Do you know why?
04:09The quarrel is not good,
04:10but the fact that you are now going to solve the problem
04:13is what is really, really good.
04:14It's healthy for your mind.
04:16It's healthy for you.
04:17As you're growing up,
04:19if I had a difference with someone,
04:22if I disagreed with someone,
04:24I'm trying to word it as easily as possible
04:26for you to understand.
04:27If I didn't like something you did
04:29and I speak to you and you speak to me
04:31and then we talk to each other
04:33and we sorted the matter out,
04:35that is preparing you to become a good adult
04:38who can solve problems
04:39and who can actually interact with someone
04:41and who understands.
04:42But if I did not mix with you,
04:44I never had a problem with you
04:45because I never mixed with people.
04:47The day I need to mix with people,
04:48I will not know how to mix with them.
04:51I won't know how to talk to them.
04:52Today when someone comes in,
04:54we say As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.
04:56Do you say As-salamu alaykum to your game,
04:58to your video game?
05:01You know, I don't want the children to think
05:03that if I say As-salamu alaykum to my game
05:05that I might win the game.
05:07No, you won't.
05:08It doesn't.
05:08But this,
05:10the reason I say this is
05:11interaction is very important.
05:13It's becoming less.
05:14You know, mums and dads also need this advice
05:17that it's more important to interact.
05:19Subhanallah.
05:20It's more important to interact with human beings
05:23and to leave aside these things sometimes.
05:25Yes, there is good use of it.
05:27I know my children growing up,
05:28mashaAllah,
05:29and more and more of their work
05:31is on the iPad.
05:33Am I right?
05:34A lot of the work,
05:35the teacher will tell you to hand in something
05:36and drop box it.
05:37And the teacher will tell you to do this
05:39and to get to research on the computer and so on.
05:42When we were young,
05:43I don't even know,
05:44we did not even have access to computers in my time.
05:47You know, I'm a dinosaur.
05:48So, at the same time,
05:51when you have work, you do it.
05:52You are allowed to play games.
05:54Nobody's saying no.
05:54But you need to limit it, the time.
05:57If I tell you play for 10 minutes,
05:58is that too little or is it right?
06:00Or is it too much?
06:0310 minutes.
06:03You wanna play for 10 minutes?
06:06Allahu Akbar.
06:0710 minutes is really good.
06:08It's a lot of time.
06:09Okay, I got a new rule.
06:11You know what's the rule?
06:12However long you take for salah,
06:14that's how long you're gonna be allowed to play games.
06:16Wow.
06:17So, how long is your salah going to be?
06:19MashaAllah.
06:21One hour salah.
06:22Okay, that solves another problem.
06:23MashaAllah.
06:25Okay, alhamdulillah.
06:26Okay, let's listen to this.
06:28Okay, let's listen to this.
06:29MashaAllah.
06:30Let's listen to this.
06:31Alhamdulillah.
06:32Okay, we can make another offer.
06:34However long you take for salah,
06:36we will offer you double the time for your game.
06:39Wow, I think that's a good rule.
06:40It's a rule in my house.
06:41Subhanallah, it's nice.
06:44And if you get up for fajr,
06:45you're allowed three times.
06:46Three times the amount of time it took.
06:48Three times.
06:49Okay, so inshaAllah,
06:51bottom line is we will work hard and we will...
06:53You are allowed to enjoy.
06:56But you must learn to interact and to mix.
06:58When I speak to young children,
07:00I don't like to give them a lecture.
07:02Stand up and say,
07:03Oh, you need to do this and you need to...
07:05Talk to them.
07:06Let them answer you.
07:07Let them, you know, liven up the discussion
07:09because it's the interaction that means
07:11more than anything else.
07:12For me, if I were to talk to you,
07:14it's a nice thing, isn't it?
07:15Would you like?
07:16What's your name?
07:17What's your name?
07:19Yes, yes, don't worry.
07:19It's you with the red shirt
07:21and the glasses looking at me right here.
07:23What's your name, Habibi?
07:25I'm sorry?
07:27Khafi.
07:28Wow, mashaAllah.
07:30MashaAllah.
07:31That's a nice name.
07:32I haven't heard it before.
07:33Alhamdulillah, it's unique.
07:34Just as well I asked you
07:35because I learned a new name.
07:37One day, inshaAllah, someone asks me,
07:38you know, can you help us with names?
07:39I'm going to give your name.
07:40Is it okay?
07:42You know, when kids are born,
07:43sometimes the parents come and say,
07:45can you please help us with a few names?
07:47Normally, I like to say,
07:48you must choose your own names
07:49because my taste might not be
07:51the right taste for you.
07:53But I can suggest them a few names.
07:55Can I give them your name
07:56and tell them you can keep
07:57your baby's name this name?
07:58Is it okay?
08:00It's okay.
08:00Wow, it's not okay?
08:02It's okay.
08:03Okay, alhamdulillah.
08:03No, no, no, don't worry.
08:05Don't worry.
08:05It's not going to hurt you
08:06if they keep your name.
08:07My name is Ismail.
08:08So basically, a lot of people have my name,
08:10but I have somebody else's name.
08:12So it's still the same, you know.
08:14When I say somebody else,
08:14I mean it's come down a good person,
08:16a Nabi of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
08:18or a good person
08:19and other people keep the same name.
08:21Alhamdulillah.
08:21So do you want me to carry on talking
08:24or is it okay?
08:25My time is up,
08:25but I don't know about you.
08:27Can I keep on talking?
08:29What do you want me to say?
08:30What should I talk about?
08:33You don't know what I should talk about.
08:34Okay.
08:35Yes, what should I talk about?
08:37Islam.
08:38Wow, did you hear what he said?
08:40Talk about Islam.
08:42How many of us here are good Muslims?
08:45Put up your hand.
08:48Okay, put your hand down.
08:49So can I ask you a question?
08:51Can I ask you a question?
08:52What is a good Muslim?
08:56But you just said you're a good Muslim.
08:58What is a good Muslim?
09:02What is a good Muslim?
09:06Sorry, stand up.
09:07I want to hear you.
09:17Okay, very good.
09:18Now, let me help you.
09:19Okay, a good Muslim is one
09:21who listens to what Allah has to say
09:23subhanahu wa ta'ala.
09:24A good Muslim is one,
09:25he said one who prays.
09:27That's correct.
09:28So we all said we're good Muslims, right?
09:30Do we really pray on time?
09:32Come on, come on.
09:33Okay, inshallah we will.
09:34We will, okay.
09:35A good Muslim is one who prays,
09:37one who does not lie,
09:38one who does not steal,
09:39one who does not cheat,
09:40one who does not disobey parents,
09:42one who listens in the classroom,
09:44one who's not unruly,
09:45one who tries to be a very good person.
09:47And guess what?
09:48One who likes to mix with other Muslimin.
09:51That's a good Muslim.
09:52One who likes to mix with other Muslimin.
09:54You know why?
09:55Because if you are a good Muslim,
09:57you will come to the masjid for salah.
09:59And it's necessary for you to come to the masjid.
10:02And that's only made necessary
10:04because it's important to mix with other Muslims.
10:07If it was not important to mix with other Muslims,
10:09salah al-jama'ah,
10:11the jama'ah we make in the masjid
10:12would not be important at all.
10:14It would not even be given any importance.
10:16But because it's so important to mix
10:19and to interact and to help,
10:21that is the reason why
10:23salah al-jama'ah is extremely, extremely important.
10:27Now let me tell you,
10:28you know what?
10:28When there are poor people
10:29and people who don't have what you have,
10:32then to help them is something good.
10:34So sometimes you find a poor person
10:36and you give him one riyal.
10:37Is it something good or bad?
10:40It's very good.
10:41So how would you know
10:42that someone is in need
10:44if you did not mix with people?
10:46You wouldn't know.
10:47So this is why we need to mix
10:49and we need to make sure
10:50that when we say,
10:51I'm a good Muslim,
10:52you need to understand
10:53what is a good Muslim.
10:55So inshallah,
10:56the next time I come
10:58and I will ask a question inshallah,
11:00by the will of Allah.
11:00If Allah gives me the life,
11:01you know, to be here again,
11:03you will be a little bit older,
11:04a little bit older inshallah.
11:06So I will ask you a question
11:09about what a good Muslim is
11:10and you can give me the whole detail
11:12that I've given you
11:13and even more inshallah.
11:13You will read about it.
11:15You will ask your teachers.
11:16Everything you learn about in this madrasah
11:18is being a good Muslim
11:20and being a really good Muslim,
11:21improving and helping yourself
11:23and helping others.
11:25So I want to ask you one last question.
11:29I want to ask you one last question
11:32and that is,
11:34how many of you know the meaning
11:37of Surat Al-Fatiha?
11:42MashaAllah.
11:43Okay.
11:44Now the reason I'm asking you,
11:45you can put your hands down.
11:46MashaAllah, MashaAllah, MashaAllah.
11:48The reason I'm asking you,
11:49the next time I come,
11:50I want to see more hands up inshallah.
11:53You do? You do?
11:56Inshallah, next time it will be fully.
11:58Isn't it? Okay.
12:00The reason I'm asking you,
12:01I asked you how many of you know
12:03the meaning of Surat Al-Fatiha
12:04and quite a few of you put up your hand.
12:06Next time we want to see more hands
12:08and I'm going to ask you about
12:10the other short surahs as well.
12:12And then I will ask one person to come up
12:14and to say it out inshallah.
12:17Who is ready to do that now?
12:18Surat Al-Fatiha, the meaning of it,
12:20who can stand up,
12:21come here to the front,
12:22stand next to me
12:23and read the meaning of Surat Al-Fatiha in English?
12:26Say the English of it.
12:27Who can do that for me?
12:29Okay, the guys are shy, isn't it?
12:31Are you shy?
12:32You can?
12:33Surat Al-Fatiha, the meaning of it?
12:35Come.
12:37The whole of Surat Al-Fatiha.
12:38Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
12:40Stand here.
12:57Ameen, mashaAllah.
13:02And in English?
13:04Next time, okay, inshallah.
13:07No, that was a good attempt.
13:09I'm so impressed because
13:10at least he came up,
13:11alhamdulillah, and he tried.
13:12Maybe he didn't understand exactly what we asked,
13:15but alhamdulillah,
13:16next time we'll know the English as well.
13:18The reason I say this,
13:19wallahi, in order to know
13:21whether you're a good Muslim or not,
13:22you need to know what Allah said.
13:23I said moments ago,
13:24a good Muslim is one who listens to the command of Allah.
13:27The command of Allah is in the Quran.
13:28It starts off with Surat Al-Fatiha.
13:30So I want to encourage you to learn the meaning,
13:33inshallah.
13:33Next time I come,
13:34we're going to know the meaning of Surat Al-Fatiha.
13:36Am I right?
13:37Next time we come,
13:38we're going to know the meanings of even a few more surahs.
13:41So I will leave that, inshallah,
13:42for the next time,
13:43inshallah, we're going to see development and growth
13:45by the will of Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
13:47What would you like to say?
13:51Inshallah, what we're going to do next time,
13:53we're going to ask you to read
13:55the meaning of another surah,
13:56one of the short surahs, inshallah.
13:57You can choose which surah it is,
13:59by the will of Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
14:01So my children, my time is up.
14:04I have another commitment and I need to go, inshallah.
14:07I hope and I pray that the few moments I spent with you,
14:10I enjoyed them.
14:10I always enjoy speaking to children
14:12because I interact with them
14:14and it's something that helps me a lot.
14:17So I hope and pray that the next time I come here,
14:19we're going to have, inshallah,
14:21a little bit more by the will of Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
14:23Jazakumullah khair.
14:24Yes, brother.
14:32What's your name?
14:34You are?
14:34I am Yafiq.
14:36MashaAllah. TabarakAllah.
14:39You can sit down now.
14:43Okay. Alhamdulillah.
14:45MashaAllah. Well done, well done.
14:46Jazakumullah khair.
14:48Just a minute.
14:49I want to spend one minute,
14:51just one minute giving a point of encouragement,
14:53inshallah, to the volunteering teachers
14:56and the teachers who are here.
14:58I also teach similarly and I volunteer.
15:01So it's on an on-and-off basis.
15:03It's not on a full-time basis at the moment.
15:06I said something the last time if I'm not mistaken,
15:08but maybe I might repeat it to share it with the rest.
15:12You know, something always comes to my mind
15:16when I think of teaching and teaching Islamic studies.
15:20Something very powerful comes to my mind.
15:23You know, a lot of us are volunteers.
15:24We volunteer, we want to teach.
15:28After the Battle of Badr,
15:32there were captives,
15:35those who were taken captive by the Muslims.
15:38And one of the means of them achieving their freedom,
15:43and you know the kuffar, for them,
15:48this worldly life is a paradise.
15:50They do as they please. It's a Jannah.
15:52So they were told, look, you are captive,
15:55and if you would like to achieve your freedom,
15:59which is more or less your paradise,
16:02you need to teach ten of our children
16:05or our people how to read and write.
16:07I'm sure you've come across this.
16:09So ten learn how to read and write,
16:12and then you can go.
16:14That's what they were taught.
16:15That's what they were told.
16:16And some of them did it and some of them actually went.
16:18They were freed after that.
16:20So the point I want to raise is very powerful,
16:23and that is these people were teaching,
16:26these were non-Muslims teaching something
16:30that was not Islamic studies.
16:32It was how to read and write to Muslim, ten of them,
16:36just ten, and then you can walk free.
16:38You can have your paradise.
16:40So don't you think that with us,
16:43we are teaching Islamic studies,
16:45and we are going to teach inshallah more than ten people.
16:49Don't you think that Allah will grant us our paradise
16:52by His mercy as a result?
16:54And because of that,
16:56and I firmly believe that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
16:58knows what's happening.
16:59It's not easy to teach children.
17:01It's becoming more and more difficult.
17:03You take a look at, for example,
17:04you know, the unruliness as time passes,
17:07as advanced as we are becoming,
17:09even the adults are unruly today.
17:11I was sitting and watching the House of Commons in the UK
17:13at one stage,
17:14and I saw big MPs and the way they operate
17:17and laugh and joke and clap hands,
17:19and you won't believe this is actually a parliament.
17:21Allahu Akbar.
17:22May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala grant us an understanding.
17:25Obviously, it's their way of doing things,
17:27and I'm not saying it's right or wrong,
17:28but it's surprising to us
17:31to see something that we wouldn't ever imagine
17:33and believe was, you know,
17:35the conduct of people who are supposed to be legislators.
17:38So getting back to my point,
17:40and that is, subhanAllah,
17:42if a person teaches the deen,
17:45they will achieve so much,
17:46by the will of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
17:48maybe that will be their entry into paradise.
17:51If those people were granted their own paradise
17:53because of 10 people with us,
17:55inshallah, it will continue and continue.
17:57And this is why the hadith even speaks about
17:59how the continuation known as sadaqa jariya,
18:02you know, that charity which is continuing,
18:04is connected to ilmun naafi,
18:07you know, a person who's left behind knowledge,
18:09yuntafa'u bih,
18:11that knowledge which is going to be,
18:12which is beneficial and others have benefited from,
18:15inshallah, they will be able to achieve a full reward of that
18:18and of all those who have benefited thereafter.
18:22Someone who taught me will get a reward
18:24for the person I taught, you see,
18:26because they taught me.
18:27So inshallah, have hope inshallah and keep it up.
18:31And there will be obstacles in your path.
18:34Don't run away because of obstacles,
18:36because that's a challenge.
18:37If we were taught to run away
18:38because of obstacles in our path,
18:40none of us would be on the path,
18:42because everyone's had obstacles.
18:43And Allah says,
18:44وَلَا نَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ
18:45We're indeed going to test you.
18:48May Allah make it easy for us all.
18:50And may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless you all.
18:52Jazakumullah khair.
18:53Wassalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
