00:00Hi, I'm Kamala Harris and this is the Wired Autocomplete Interview.
00:05What do you want me to do with each one?
00:10Just drop them on the floor.
00:11Yeah.
00:12It's not going to be in the camera shot?
00:13No, it's off camera.
00:14Because I don't believe in littering.
00:15No, I know we're going to figure it out.
00:16Okay.
00:17How to pronounce Kamala Harris?
00:25Kamala Harris.
00:27My baby nieces, you can go on YouTube and they did a really great tutorial on how to
00:33pronounce my name.
00:34So look it up.
00:36What did Kamala Harris's mother tell her?
00:39She told us that we should never let anyone tell us who we are.
00:44You tell them who you are.
00:45She said to me many times, Kamala, you may be the first to do many things.
00:48Make sure you're not the last.
00:50Since I was two years old, my mother told me to look out for my little sister.
00:54These are all instructions that she gave me that I have carried throughout my life.
00:58What does Kamala Harris stand for?
01:01I am a daughter of parents who are active in the civil rights movement.
01:05They actually took me when I was in a stroller to civil rights marches where they were fighting
01:11for freedom, for justice, for equality.
01:14I believe, for example, right now that one of the biggest things that we must fight for
01:18is the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have her government
01:23tell her what to do.
01:24An important moment that I had was back in 2004 when I was one of the first elected people
01:31in the country to perform same-sex marriages because I believe very strongly that the law
01:37should not treat people differently when it comes to being able to love who they love
01:42and the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride.
01:45Does Kamala Harris have kids?
01:47Yes.
01:48I have two.
01:49Cole and Ella became my cherished children.
01:52Doug, my husband, I was very clear with him that when we started dating I wanted to see
01:58how this thing was going to go before I would meet Cole and Ella.
02:03You know, I'm a kid of divorced parents.
02:05It was important to make sure that when I developed a relationship with the kids that
02:10it would be lasting.
02:12I love those kids to pieces.
02:14They are my children and I'm very proud of them.
02:18How was Kamala Harris's life as a child?
02:21I had the blessing of having a great childhood.
02:23I grew up in a neighborhood full of families, adults who were everything from construction
02:27workers to teachers, people who were proud of their lawn.
02:31As kids we used to ride bikes in the neighborhood.
02:33I'll never forget and will always love my banana seat on my bike.
02:40And I grew up, you know, in a family of people who, you know, some were family by blood and
02:48some were family by love.
02:49A real incredible childhood.
02:52And I want the same for every child in America.
02:56Where is Kamala Harris from?
03:00Oakland, California.
03:01The home of the Golden State Warriors, who are one of my favorite teams and have always
03:07on the court shown incredible excellence, as has their coach.
03:11Where did Kamala Harris go to college?
03:14Howard University, which we refer to as the Mecca.
03:17I actually ran for my first office there.
03:20Freshman class representative of the Liberal Arts Student Council.
03:23It was a very tough race against a girl from Jersey.
03:27She was tough and smart.
03:29Kamala Harris laughing.
03:31I love to laugh.
03:32It's really important to be able to laugh at yourself, laugh with folks, and there are
03:38obviously moments that require serious thought and serious approaches, but I hope that everybody
03:46has a moment to laugh from time to time.
03:50Kamala Harris presidential campaign.
03:53So I am running for President of the United States.
03:56I am the Vice President of the United States, and I intend to win as President of the United
04:00States, and I intend to be a president for all Americans.
04:06As a prosecutor, when I would talk with a victim of crime or a witness, I never ask
04:12them, are you a Democrat or a Republican?
04:14The first thing I'd always ask them is, are you okay?
04:17And that's the kind of president I intend to be.
04:19It's about you and how you're doing, and again, tapping into your dreams and your aspirations
04:25for yourself and the people in your life.
04:29Can Kamala Harris beat Trump?
04:32Yes, absolutely.
04:33I think what's really important is to know what you stand for, and then you know what
04:38to fight for.
04:39You know, I come from a middle class background.
04:41My mother worked hard, she saved up, and only when I was a teenager she was able to
04:45buy our first home.
04:46And that's why I'm focused in particular on middle class families and doing what I can
04:50to uplift working people.
04:52My opponent, Donald Trump on the other hand, you know, he gives tax breaks to billionaires
04:56and big corporations.
04:58I stand for our military.
05:00I believe we have to honor their service, their sacrifice, the service and sacrifice
05:04of their families.
05:06My opponent has called military heroes, suckers and losers.
05:11Not to mention that I think most Americans want to have a leader who believes that their
05:15strength is not in beating people down, but in lifting people up.
05:18And that's why I'm going to beat Trump.
05:20Kamala Harris, Attorney General of California, two terms.
05:25As Attorney General, I was the top law enforcement officer of the biggest state in the country.
05:29I took on the big banks for predatory lending practices against homeowners, so many who
05:35faced foreclosure and I took them on and actually won $20 billion.
05:39Kamala Harris policies.
05:41One of my policies is to make sure that first time home buyers will get $25,000 in down
05:47payment assistance.
05:48So you can just get your foot in the door and be able to live that dream and obviously
05:52work hard and own a home and that's part of building wealth.
05:56The tax deduction right now for startups is only $5,000 and no one can start a new small
06:02business with $5,000.
06:03Let's expand that and give people a $50,000 tax deduction to start up a small business.
06:10Our small businesses are the backbone of America's economy, including giving a tax break to middle
06:16class families, including young parents of $6,000.
06:20So you can just have the support you need to buy a crib, to buy a car seat, to buy baby
06:25clothes knowing that's such a fundamental stage of your child's life, the first year
06:29of life, and we want to do what we can to support your natural desire to parent.
06:34Kamala Harris, Tim Walz.
06:35So Tim Walz is my running mate.
06:37I call him, as do many, Coach Walz.
06:40He's an incredible person.
06:41He was a high school teacher, high school football coach.
06:46He has served our country in uniform and he is currently a governor of a state under his
06:54leadership that has been designated sixth most friendly to businesses.
06:59He reminds me of people I grew up with.
07:01Different part of the country, folks who seemingly have nothing in common and have everything
07:05in common.
07:06Hardworking people who love their community, who care and work hard and contribute.
07:13Get to know Tim Walz.
07:14He's really a great guy.
07:16Kamala Harris Sorority.
07:18The name of my sorority is Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and it is the oldest
07:22black sorority in America and has a history of producing incredible women who have gone
07:30on to great roles of leadership.
07:33Kamala Harris Gun Ownership.
07:36I and Tim Walz are both gun owners.
07:39We will not take anybody's guns away.
07:41We also need to have reasonable gun safety laws.
07:46I believe that we need an assault weapons ban.
07:48We need universal background checks.
07:51We need red flag laws.
07:53We can support the second amendment as I do and also agree that we need some reasonable
07:59laws.
08:00I mean if you talk to a lot of people in our country who have sadly from kindergarten through
08:06twelfth grade have to go through active shooter drills and worry about whether when they're
08:11sitting in class and should be learning and taking advantage of the wonders of the world
08:16and some part of their mind is worried about somebody busting through the door of the classroom
08:20with a gun.
08:21I think we should agree.
08:22We don't want our kids.
08:24We don't want anyone to live with that kind of fear and there are things we can do about
08:28it.
08:29Kamala Harris Taylor Swift.
08:32I am very proud to have the support of Taylor Swift.
08:36She's an incredible artist.
08:38I really respect the courage that she has had in her career to stand up for what she
08:43believes is right.
08:45But we were on different sides of the Super Bowl last year.
08:48I am a 49ers fan but who's mad at anyone for being loyal to their team, right?
08:54So there you go.
08:55Kamala Harris debate.
08:58That was quite enjoyable.
09:00I enjoyed the debate.
09:01I think it's very important for us to in our democracy create an opportunity for civil
09:10debate and disagreement about ideas and about policies.
09:15I think the debate showed that we have two very different visions for our country.
09:21I stand for and have a vision that is about the future of our country and I offer I think
09:26a new generation of leadership.
09:28My opponent, Donald Trump, I think his vision for our country is very grounded in the past
09:34and frankly an attempt to take us backward.
09:37You know, taking away the freedom to make decisions about your own body regardless of
09:41your gender, saying that the government has a right to tell you what to do with your body,
09:46I think that's kind of backward.
09:48I think the government shouldn't be making those decisions for people.
09:51Kamala Harris, joy.
09:54I call myself a joyful warrior.
09:56I think it is important to find joy in each other, in the strength that we each have to
10:03lift each other up, to build community, to build coalition.
10:08There you go.
10:09Let's all share some joy.
10:11Okay, that was it.
10:12We're done.
10:13Okay, let's do it another way.
10:17I really enjoyed talking with everybody.
10:19That's it.
10:20No more boards.
10:21Thank you for your interest and just stay active and please vote.
