00:00We have everything we need to survive the night on our backs. We're starting
00:04our journey down in the valley making our way through the raw land of British
00:08Columbia in search of a glacier to camp on. Our first animal, feces, beer scat, and
00:17into grizzly territory we go. My bag is probably about 35 to 40 pounds if I had
00:26to guess. How much do you think yours is? Probably less than yours. Really? Yeah. I don't have camera gear. I don't have dog food and dog water.
00:37Yeah. Some heavy bushwhacking. It's not too bad.
00:48This is definitely not a highly trafficked trail.
00:56No tomato. I think that might be the glacier we're going to. It's so far.
01:27That is so nice and cool. Such a nice break from the heat.
01:37I'm very happy they put the bridges in. It's always a risk. If the bridges aren't here, that would be a hard river to cross.
01:43Right now this is our flattest part of the hike. It was a little bit of an
01:48incline getting started and now we flattened out. I'm gonna walk through the
01:52valley to get to the base of that mountain. It's gonna be a very challenging part.
01:58It really is just the weight of the backpack that makes it so challenging.
02:22Slow and steady wins the race.
02:32That bag really topples me over.
02:42The bag just makes everything so much wobblier if I balance. I probably didn't pack the bag evenly.
02:51All my food's on one side, so I'm tippy. Thanks for whoever built those stairs.
02:59Okay, up we go.
03:07We're coming, we're coming.
03:10We were worried about not being able to get Kiro because we saw in the trail reports there was a rope section.
03:19But he's doing this way better than we are.
03:26After bushwhacking for about three hours, we finally broke the tree line and saw one of the most beautiful valleys.
03:35We thought this lake was our final destination, but soon learned we had to climb this ridge.
03:42But it's okay, we can do it.
03:44Our first look at the lake. This is the lower lake, and our objective is to get up there somewhere.
03:51It's beautiful.
03:58I'm dying, so Parker has something to tell you.
04:02So, we're hiking up to the glacier up there, and we're on this weird ridge.
04:08It falls down on both sides of us.
04:11So it looks like back in the day, when this glacier was coming down the valley, it just pushed all of this material off to this side.
04:20And then you can see on the opposite side, it did the same thing. There's a clear cut where the glacier was running down.
04:30Pretty freaking cool.
04:33We couldn't find Kiro for a second.
04:38There's Kiro.
04:40It's a hot day, but he's being such a good sport.
04:44He's staying ahead of us the whole way. Guy just needs a water break.
05:04Our first water refill.
05:07Filtering some glacier cold water.
05:10It's going to be good.
05:13Somebody's holding some jerky in their hand.
05:21It's so cold.
05:24It's so cold.
05:27It's so cold.
05:30It's so cold.
05:33We found our spot. I'm so excited.
05:37So, we're setting up camp and dropping all of our stuff and just taking daypacks up and around the last portion to get to the glacier.
06:02Oh, good boy.
06:11We're taking a really quick break and I'd like to thank today's sponsor, Toraz.
06:17They are the originator of the O-Ring phone case.
06:21Having a protective phone case is essential out here and also just on your day-to-day life.
06:27It, of course, needs to be able to protect your phone when you drop it or get it dirty.
06:31Where this phone is unique is the O-Ring stand.
06:35You can turn it 360 and you don't have to worry about one of those pop sockets where it's not flush.
06:42It's completely flush with the phone, so it makes it super sleek.
06:45You can get just the stand and attach it with a really strong sticker that is the perfect shape.
06:52It's super sleek and it has a very strong magnet.
06:55You can set your phone up in different positions for filming or watching content.
07:00I download Netflix before coming out here and always have something just in case I can't fall asleep at night.
07:05It has a 300-fold test, so it can hold the weight of your phone and you don't have to worry about the hinge giving out.
07:12Another thing I picked up from them besides the phone case and the O-Stand is the charger.
07:17It looks so sleek on my desk and I love that I can see if notifications come up.
07:22I don't have to worry about fiddling with the cords. It's just a really nice, sleek design.
07:27You can also charge your AirPods if you have those.
07:30I don't have an Apple Watch, but it does have an attachment, so you can charge all three things on the one stand.
07:35If you're interested, I've linked everything below. It really helps Kira and I to use that specific link.
07:39Thank you again, Toraz, for sponsoring today's video.
07:43There's us down there.
07:45We came from all the way around there. Not a bad place to be.
07:55We've been staring at this rock wall for a couple hours now. It's time to go over.
08:26Okay, we made it to the top. Oh my gosh, look at this glacier.
08:31As beautiful as it is to find yourself in wild places like this, I always leave with a renewed sense of perspective.
08:38Standing beside these towering mountains, it's impossible not to feel how small we truly are.
08:44We were here in mid-July, just two weeks before a forest fire swept through this trail, forever altering the landscape.
08:52There were four women on the glacier when the fire started in this direction.
08:56There's no cell reception out here, but thankfully, they were able to connect to the SOS feature on their phone and send their coordinates to search and rescue.
09:04They stayed in the same location until a helicopter could land and immediately evacuated them.
09:10Investing in a reliable satellite device before exploring remote areas may just be the difference between life and death out here.
09:22There you go, buddy.
09:52There you go, buddy.
10:22Good job.
10:52There's one more.
11:12There's one more.
11:15I might as well just walk through it.
11:23And we're headed back to our tent. It's finally in shade.
11:28Watching Kiro navigate the rocks is so impressive.
11:33Just on the side of a cliff right now.
11:44I just had a good...
11:47I just had a good...
11:50I just had a good...
11:53I just had a good...
11:56I just had a good...
11:59I just had a good three to four hour nap.
12:02I just had a good three to four hour nap.
12:05Let's say three.
12:07And now it's time for bed.
12:09And I'm not eating dinner today. I'm just so tired.
12:12Kiro is zonked and he refuses to go at the foot of the tent.
12:16He has to be between us.
12:19Good morning.
12:22Last night was not too bad of a sleep.
12:25It was probably only about five degrees-ish.
12:30So I didn't have to bring my winter sleeping bag.
12:33And we slept pretty cozy in here.
12:35I like this time of year where I don't have to bring a jacket or an extra blanket for Kiro.
12:40Because that means less weight for me to carry.
12:42But we're packing up now.
12:44Gonna have some coffee and hike the four to five hours out of here.
12:50Put on my backpack for the first time.
12:52And realized the chipmunks got my backpack strap.
12:55It's hanging on by a thread.
12:58I can't tighten it or loosen it.
13:00So I'm gonna have to order a replacement strap.
13:03But now I know for next time to keep my pack inside the tent.
13:08Little rascals.
13:10That could have been bad.
13:11We would have had to jimmy something out of some extra string that we had.
13:18We tried to take a bit of a shortcut.
13:20And now we're way off trail.
13:22And are bushwhacking through some really thick brush.
13:28Sometimes the shortcut is not shorter.
13:31Just because it takes so much energy to push through these trees.
13:38And it's especially hard with a big pack that's getting caught on everything.
13:46We gotta go through there.
13:51It's really hard.
13:56We finished our bushwhacking. We're back on the trail.
13:59Back to the water sources. We're happy.
14:01E5, full plumb.
14:06Shira's trying to figure out how to get around.
14:09See if he can figure it out.
14:11We got across fine the first time.
14:21This might be the most beautiful view I've ever seen.
14:25We did it!
14:29Okay, I'm clocking out. I need to go get a cheeseburger and a blizzard.
14:35See you guys in the next one. Bye!
