00:00On a winter day, a man was standing in the middle of someone's front yard.
00:06The person stayed there for several weeks without moving,
00:09and the owner of the yard didn't mind.
00:12Eventually, the man left.
00:14Who was the man?
00:25It was a snowman, of course!
00:27He left a couple of weeks later when the temperature went up.
00:34Over winter break, five best friends each did different activities in different cities.
00:39Can you find out each friend's full name, what they did, and where they went?
00:44Their first names are Julie, Megan, David, Fred, and Sam.
00:49Their last names are Wallace, Thompson, Mallard, Shields, and Drake.
00:54Their preferred activities are a ski trip,
00:57moving to another place,
00:59a cruise,
01:01cooking classes,
01:02and visiting relatives.
01:04The places where they went are Houston, Paris,
01:07Cleveland,
01:09Vancouver,
01:10and Miami.
01:12And now, there's a bit more info you might need.
01:151. Julie and Miss Wallace were sad that David wasn't coming back.
01:192. Neither Sam nor Julie had ever left the U.S. before this winter break.
01:243. All the first names that have two syllables belong with the last names that have two syllables.
01:30Nobody's last name starts with the same letter as their first name.
01:344. Miss Mallard is excited to learn about French cuisine.
01:385. Mr. Thompson doesn't want to move.
01:416. The friends, in no particular order, are as follows.
01:45The girl who is going on a ski trip, Mr. Shields,
01:48Megan, the boy headed to Houston,
01:50and Julie.
01:527. Cruises can only be taken in warm coastal cities.
01:56Ski trips can only be taken in cold, mountainous places.
01:59Remember that this winter.
02:018. The cruise ship Fred is traveling on does not dock in Houston.
02:06Also, keep in mind that Sam can be a boy's or girl's name.
02:10In this case, it's short for Samantha.
02:159. Julie Mallard takes cooking classes and she went to Paris.
02:2610. Megan Wallace moved to Cleveland.
02:2811. David Thompson visited his relatives in Houston.
02:3112. Fred Shields went on a cruise in Miami.
02:3413. Sam Drake took a ski trip in Vancouver.
02:38It's 1962 and you're traveling to Innsbruck, Austria to see the Winter Olympics.
02:46When you arrive at the stadium, nobody is there.
02:49You ask a passerby,
02:51Why isn't anyone here for the Winter Olympics?
02:54The man answers your question.
02:56You both laugh at your silly mistake and you go back home.
02:59What did the passerby tell you?
03:08He told you that the Winter Olympics wouldn't start until 1964.
03:18There are a few airplanes on the island.
03:20The tank of each airplane contains just enough fuel to fly halfway around the world.
03:25Any amount of fuel can be transferred from one plane to another while in the air.
03:30The only source of fuel is on the island.
03:33It's assumed that all the planes burn fuel at the same rate and fly at the same speed.
03:38What is the smallest number of airplanes needed to ensure that one plane flies all the way around the world?
03:45All the planes should return safely to the island.
03:58Only three planes are needed.
03:59Planes A, B and C leave the island together.
04:03After flying one-eighth of the distance,
04:05plane C transfers one-fourth of the contents of its tank to plane A and one-fourth to plane B.
04:12This leaves C with one-fourth of its fuel, which is just enough to get back to the island.
04:18Planes A and B continue for another one-eighth of the way.
04:23Plane B then transfers one-fourth of the contents of its tank to plane A.
04:28Plane B now has half a tank of fuel left, which is enough to go back to the island.
04:34Plane A now has a full tank and continues to fly until it runs out of fuel,
04:39which occurs when it's one-fourth of the way to the island.
04:42It is met by plane C, which has already been refueled.
04:46Plane C transfers one-fourth of its tank to plane A, and they both head home.
04:51Planes A and C run out of fuel when one-eighth of the way to the island is left.
04:56Luckily, they're met by plane B, which has been refueled too.
05:00Plane B transfers one-fourth of its tank to each of the two planes,
05:04and the three aircraft now have enough fuel to get home.
05:10Two 50-foot ropes are suspended from a 40-foot ceiling 20 feet apart.
05:15You have only a knife. How much of the rope can you steal?
05:27Almost all of it. First, tie the ropes together at the ends.
05:31Then, climb one of the ropes. Make a loop as close to the ceiling as possible.
05:35While hanging from the loop, cut the rope just below it.
05:39But don't drop it, otherwise you'll be stuck up there.
05:42Run the rope through the loop and tie it to your waist.
05:45Swing over to the other rope and pull the rope that's going through the loop tight.
05:50Cut the other rope as close to the ceiling as possible, holding tight to the end of it.
05:55Once the rope is loose, you will swing down below the loop.
05:59Let yourself down to the ground by letting the rope out.
06:02At the bottom, untie yourself and pull the rope completely through the loop.
06:07At this point, you'll have all the rope except what was used to tie the loop.
06:16You find yourself trapped in a medieval castle far away from civilization.
06:21It's freezing outside. You can't jump out the window because it's too high above the ground.
06:27And even snowdrifts won't make the jump softer.
06:30The only tree growing near the window doesn't look sturdy enough for you to climb down.
06:36However, there are three doors, one of which can lead you to freedom.
06:42But behind the first door, there's a fierce fire.
06:45The second door holds back hundreds of venomous snakes.
06:49And behind the third door, there's a pitch-dark maze, and you can only imagine what surprises are waiting for you there.
06:56Which door should you choose?
07:07The third one. You'll just need to break off a tree branch, turn it into a torch by lighting it in the first room,
07:13and go through the maze, which wouldn't be dark anymore.
07:20When Mary came to work after a winter break, she realized that the office had been robbed.
07:26The night guard said he had been patrolling the building when he'd heard suspicious noises.
07:31When he got there, he saw that the office door was wide open, and so was the safe.
07:37The man also added that he had looked out of the window and noticed someone get in a car.
07:42But the sun blinded him, and he didn't manage to see who it was.
07:46Mary instantly called the police. Why?
07:59There's no sun at night, so it couldn't have blinded the night guard.
08:02He must have invented the whole story to help the criminals.
08:06Or is he the thief himself?
08:09Tina and Timothy loved adventures.
08:12Once, they decided to check out an ancient castle in Greenland that was said to belong to a witch.
08:18That witch used snow to perform her magic, and could turn into any object and copy anyone's appearance.
08:25In the castle, they used torches to light their way.
08:28All of a sudden, their torches went out.
08:31Tina got terribly scared, but then, the witch appeared.
08:35Tina got terribly scared, but then, the torches lit again, and she saw two husbands of hers in front of her.
08:42Can you tell who is her real husband?
08:54It's the man on the right. He has five fingers, like a regular human.
08:58The man on the left has four fingers, so it must be the witch.
09:06An anonymous person called the police and told them that a notorious criminal had come back to the town.
09:12The next day, they called the police once again to report the screams they had heard.
09:17They had been coming from an abandoned house.
09:20The police rushed there. They broke in and saw three tied up men.
09:25They figured out that one of them must have been the criminal.
09:28One of the officers said that he knew exactly who the criminal was.
09:33Can you spot them?
09:44Look at the man on the left. Can you see a phone in his pocket?
09:48A true criminal would never let their victim use a phone.
09:51Take him, officer!
