00:00advantage for Eteba Gautier, our referee for our second fight of the night, Gary Copeland.
00:07Round one, you ready red? Round one, you ready blue? Let's fight.
00:12His fight clock is brought to you by Bud Light, official beer sponsor of the UFC,
00:17Nato in the blue trunks. I gotta say fair play to Nato, he is not intimidated at all.
00:24When you've got a specimen like Gautier standing there in front of you, I mean look at the build
00:29on him, the muscles, the speed, the knockout resume. Nato's at a much, he's at a massive size
00:36disadvantage, but it doesn't matter if you can take him down. Yeah, that was a quick entry.
00:41Yeah, really good, really good. Going for that single leg of Gautier now up against the fence,
00:48dropping to his knees. And this is the fight right here, can Gautier keep the fight on the feet?
00:54Nato looking to finish this, this single leg here, he's going to have to suck in the single
00:59or switch off to a double. He looks a little lost in terms of how he's defending this position right
01:05now. Now Manchester top team, as we mentioned, the likes of Lerone, Miracle Murphy undefeated.
01:12They know what they're doing down there. What he's got to do, Gautier right now is use that right arm,
01:18use it as a wizard, rotate his hips. It doesn't matter, he's on the feet.
01:25And this is where he wants it, an explosive strike ring kickboxer is Gautier.
01:31And Frank Mira, oh lands the knee as he stumps the takedown. Nato hopping back up.
01:39Frank Mira in the corner of Gautier.
01:42Frank Mira, Karl Prince.
01:50Just misses the knee. How is Knight, oh my goodness. That would have been Knight, Knight.
01:55Did that connect? It sounded like it somewhat connected. I thought he missed, a glancing blow.
02:02Regardless, that was half an inch from, goodness. Yeah, but this is where Nato wants it.
02:08This is perfect for him, out in the center of the octagon.
02:13And credit to him for being willing to just walk into the fire to be able to get these takedowns.
02:18Like you said earlier, Michael, he's not afraid. He's getting in there and getting amongst it like
02:22he has to, to get this fight down.
02:28Oh, it ended up being a little bit more shin contact with that knee than it was pure knee.
02:34Nato landed some elbows, working out a full guard here.
02:41So for Gautier, he's got to try and open the guard, get the feet on the hips, kick him off.
02:46He's going to push on the head and shrink towards the octagon whilst doing so, getting overhooked
02:50with one of the arms, post with the other hand. Just build the base, getting back to the feet.
02:57Last things he wants to do is have the clock burn away for the rest of the round.
03:02Letting Nato just control him and chip away.
03:13Now's the time, now's the time to open the guard and explode, initiate a scramble.
03:22Nato landed a couple of shots from the top position here.
03:25And it did look like early on in the fight, when Gautier was against the Fats, he was consistently
03:31looking to the corner for them to tell him what to do next. That's not for him, at 22 years old,
03:36a very young fighter. Yeah, very young, 22. Right now he's going to take that left arm and put it
03:43over the arm of Nato. He's making some pretty easy mistakes. He had an opportunity there to get his
03:51right leg underneath himself to be able to build back up, but sometimes it just feels safer when
03:56you have someone in full guarding. You're sort of controlling their posture and you feel like
04:00you're keeping yourself out of danger, but the reality is you're losing time, you're losing
04:04opportunity to score the knockout. And the reality is Nato is a very accomplished wrestler.
04:09So, you know, maybe somebody without quite as much downward pressure, he might be back to his feet
04:15right now. Yeah, he's making some technical mistakes, but at the end of the day, he's got
04:19some technical mistakes. But as you said, Dan, he's only 22 years old. The reality is, if he can
04:24get back to his feet or at the start of round two, Nato is going to be in a lot of danger because
04:32Gaultier is a lot of fun as well.
04:37But not right now. This is pretty bad. This is not where he wants the fight to be, obviously.
04:43It's not.
04:49The problem is he's just kind of a fish out of water right now. He doesn't really know what he's
04:55doing. Nato's trying to land those elbows, but I will say Gaultier has done a pretty good job of
05:02not letting him land a really solid elbow in this last minute or so.
05:08Clean break, guys. Clean break. First round in the books.
05:20Push away a bit more. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.
05:28Take your time on deep breathing. Breathe. Big, deep breath. Yeah. Keep your distance
05:32with your feet and your footwork, okay? Even if you're getting hurt, you don't need to rush.
05:39Yeah, let's get the blood out of him.
05:46Look, you've taken everything he can throw. You know the knees are coming, right?
05:50So you focus. Focus. Look for your quarter. Look for your right hand right down the pipe.
05:56He's going to come big with punches. You hands up and right down the pipe. You got it?
06:01Come on. Throw him out. Let's go.
06:02Saturday, October 5th from Salt Lake City, Utah. Alex Poetam,
06:11Padena Defense's UFC Light Heavyweight Crown against Knockout Artist Khalil Roundtree Jr.
06:16Plus Rocky Pennington battles Juliana Peña for the Bantamweight title. UFC 307 available
06:21for purchase right now on ESPN Plus. Round two now underway. Gaultier presumably trying
06:32to keep this on the feet. Lands a couple of shots on Nadeau here.
06:38A nice throw this time though. Stuffs that takedown attempt.
06:46That beautiful drive by Nadeau able to put Gaultier right where he wants him on the fence
06:51where he can look to get that double leg, get the hands underneath the butt and put Gaultier
06:55right back down on the mat. Yeah, just taking his ability to throw anything because the man
07:00is so powerful. You just want to control him, get him down on the ground. And on the feet,
07:08it does feel like at any moment, it could be Gaultier's time to get in sensational knockout.
07:14I think sometimes you fall in love with that idea and you're not thinking necessarily about
07:18the defense first, the footwork, you know, moving, he's sitting down on his punches.
07:23And so he's there for the takedown. Right now Gaultier's doing the right thing.
07:27The round could be a little deeper, but he's got an overhook and an underhook with the opposite arm.
07:31He's going to use that strength.
07:44Should he not try and get another, get that right? There it is. Sorry, I just had to take a second
07:50to sneeze. Don't worry. Big right hand. You see the power of Gaultier. But Naito just unfazed.
08:00Naito still there. Trying to land some hammer fists here. A huge shot by Gaultier,
08:06but you're right. Maybe a mistake to follow him down, but he sends to finish.
08:12And I'm not surprised he dropped him hard.
08:14Gaultier's got a posture up. He's dropped some bombs.
08:21Some of those short elbows. He rocked him. Oh, rocked him big.
08:28Fair play to Yura Naito because it looked like he might have been done.
08:35And the left eye of Naito is swelling really badly at this point.
08:39Well, familiar position here with the guard closed for Naito.
08:48If a Gaultier though, he's just got a posture up. He's got to get busy
08:52because he's not necessarily trying to hold him down. He's trying to finish it. And ideally,
08:57he wants to fight on the feet. He's trying to get those hammer fists to land, but
09:05Naito doing a nice job with the wrist control.
09:10No, not really, Dan. I hate to disagree with you. He's just not being active enough.
09:18You're saying Gaultier's not being active enough?
09:19Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong. He's winning the round. He's dropped him. He's
09:24on top. He is landing some shots, but he can't afford to posture up because when you posture
09:31up, the problem is that your opponent might stand. Well, he wants it on the feet anyway.
09:36So you don't lose anything. He loses nothing. All right. He might lose the position,
09:41but he's more dangerous on the feet anyway. And right now on the ground, you know,
09:45he can fall into a submission. He can get swept or whatever the case may be. He might fall into a
09:50guillotine. What he needs to do is take his hands, push on the chest, posture up high,
09:57and just drop bombs. Look at that left eye of Naito.
10:02We got to remember, too, that Gaultier hasn't spent a lot of time outside of the first round.
10:06And defending the grappling from Naito, that's a different drain on your gas tank unless you're
10:12used to it. And as a pure striker, that's going to be what gets you tired. There it is. This is
10:18what you're asking for. That's what I want to see. Let's go. That's it. He heard the coaching
10:25coach, took it to heart and finished the fight. That's how you do it. That's what I was talking
10:32about, though. He just has this crazy natural power. Look at him go crazy.
10:41Halfway across the world. How about that technology? Watch their native son,
10:47the silent assassin, get the finish here on Dana White's contender series. If he can learn how to
10:54really defend the take down, he's going to be dangerous because look at this.
10:57Boom! Right hand. You see the head almost come off. Naito stays on the feet. Not this time,
11:03though. Right hand there. Left hook gets through. Sits him down hard. I thought it was done. Follows
11:09up with a hammer fist, but eventually got the ground-and-pound stoppage here.
11:13Gary Copeland steps in. He'd seen enough and Naito had taken enough.
11:18How about that? I mean, it's no surprise that exactly what you said would finish the fight
11:24ended up finishing the fight. You told me I didn't know what I was talking about in the process,
11:28but that's fine. You were 100% correct. He was making it hard on himself because all he had
11:33to do was posture up. I wasn't being disrespectful. No, but you didn't know what you were talking
11:38about. You were 100% right. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. You're great, though. No, I'm kidding.
11:45I'm kidding. I'm kidding. You're great, though. No, I'm kidding. That was great,
11:47and it was amazing how as soon as he did that, the fight was over. Yeah, yeah. Listen,
11:52and Naito's not an easy man to beat, but I'm very, very excited. Ateba Gautier is a really,
11:58really talented prospect. Still got a little bit of work to do, but he could be something special.
12:05Let's send it to Justin Bernard to make it official.
12:07Oh, okay. Ladies and gentlemen, after four minutes into round number two, referee Gary
12:14Copeland calls a stop to the fight for the winner by TKO, Ateba Gautier.
12:22Yeah.
12:31Gautier improving to six and one on his career. You could see the
