00:00:00It's really solid. Your thesis is really strong, but the description in the last paragraph needs to be a little more detailed.
00:00:08Okay? See you tomorrow. Oh, thank you. Bye.
00:00:18I thought I recognized you.
00:00:20Can I help you with something?
00:00:22You're Hope Wilson, right?
00:00:24That's me.
00:00:25I'm Nate. Nate Albertson. We were in calculus together. Right in this very school, as a matter of fact.
00:00:32Oh, yeah, Nate. I do recognize you. Actually, you look exactly the same.
00:00:39Well, if you don't count a few minor wrinkles.
00:00:42Come in. So, what brings you to my classroom? Looking to brush up on your Shakespeare?
00:00:48I don't know. My son's starting school here tomorrow. I'm signing him up and I saw you from the doorway.
00:00:54Tomorrow? So close to Christmas.
00:00:56Yeah, we just came over from Arbor City. I'm the new city manager, so they wanted me to get started right away with the Jingle Bell Jubilee coming up.
00:01:03Well, nice to meet you, Mr. City Manager.
00:01:07Nice to meet you, too. Again.
00:01:13So, that's the big tour. I think you're really going to like it here.
00:01:17Yeah, seems like a great school. I love all the Christmas decorations.
00:01:20Me, too.
00:01:21Yeah, I love it here. Waiting to come back every Sunday?
00:01:23I think I hear my dad.
00:01:25Let's go check it out.
00:01:28You moved away senior year, right?
00:01:30Yeah, my dad got transferred and that was it.
00:01:33I remember. You were like a mystery man here one minute, gone the next.
00:01:37But I never forgot this place.
00:01:39You mean this room?
00:01:40Yeah, I keep feeling like maybe my English class was in here.
00:01:44Oh, maybe. I remember Mrs. Fitzsimmons was in here at one point.
00:01:49Yeah.
00:01:50Mr. Albertson, I see you've already met Ms. Wilson.
00:01:53Sort of. We actually know each other. We went to school here together.
00:01:57Oh, wow. Small world. And now Ms. Wilson will be Brandon's homeroom teacher.
00:02:02Oh, hi.
00:02:03Really? That's great.
00:02:05We should get you back home so I can get to work.
00:02:09Huh, a re-giftmas.
00:02:13Yeah, it's just a little thing I do.
00:02:16It's not little.
00:02:18Oh, is this cedar? I love that smell.
00:02:22Yeah, it's my grandmother Helen's. She was a teacher, too.
00:02:25She started it, right?
00:02:27Started what? I'm confused.
00:02:30Well, when I was a little girl, my grandmother used to say that Christmas had become too much about shopping.
00:02:37About getting things.
00:02:39When most of us had been given so much already and had so many things we just didn't use.
00:02:44She just, she thought there should be more gratitude involved.
00:02:48I like that.
00:02:51Yeah, well, it wasn't just talk.
00:02:54There was a needy family in her neighborhood and she was worried what they would have for Christmas.
00:03:01So, she started putting things in this cedar chest.
00:03:06Things that she owned and loved but didn't use for whatever reason.
00:03:11And then at Christmastime, she surprised the family with all of these presents.
00:03:17They were so touched that she decided to do it for a needy family every year.
00:03:22All year long, my grandma would put things in this chest.
00:03:26And eventually, other family members started re-gifting and contributing and she was able to help a bunch of families every Christmas.
00:03:36A re-giftmas.
00:03:39Exactly.
00:03:52This is not helpful.
00:03:55Hey dad, do you know where the box with my books is?
00:03:58I thought maybe I should donate some to re-giftmas.
00:04:02Dad.
00:04:03Huh?
00:04:04My books?
00:04:05Oh no, I don't know buddy, but they've got to be somewhere over there.
00:04:11What are you doing?
00:04:13I am going through the old jubilee plans on the city's database.
00:04:17Where?
00:04:19I also found the menu for the chamber of commerce's spring get-together.
00:04:24Fruit cup appetizer.
00:04:26Wow, that's healthy.
00:04:29Yeah, just not very helpful.
00:04:35This looks so good.
00:04:37Just wait until you try it.
00:04:40Mmm.
00:04:41Right?
00:04:42Dark hot chocolate, greatest thing about winter.
00:04:45Besides Christmas, of course.
00:04:46Obviously.
00:04:48Oh, so what should we go see?
00:04:51Oh, how about Christmas at the drive-in? It just came out, I heard it's really good.
00:04:56Got it.
00:04:57It's playing at nine.
00:04:58Great.
00:05:00But first, there's something I want to talk to you about.
00:05:04What's that?
00:05:05How well do you know Nate?
00:05:07Nate?
00:05:08Nate Albertson?
00:05:10The new dad who came into your class after school.
00:05:13Oh right, that Nate. A little bit. We had some classes together.
00:05:17Oh.
00:05:18Why?
00:05:20Well, I heard that he's a widower, and it's been a few months already since Adam and I broke up, and Nate is really, really handsome.
00:05:30And?
00:05:33Well, I wanted to first see if, I mean, you're not interested in him or anything?
00:05:38No, of course not.
00:05:40It's just, I know you. And if you want something, and you think someone else wants the same thing, you always just let them have it.
00:05:48You never go after what you want.
00:05:50I am not interested in Nate. I promise.
00:05:53But I take it you are?
00:05:57Maybe.
00:06:00Are you sure?
00:06:02Yes, I'm sure. I'm so sure that if I see him again, I'll try to set you two up.
00:06:08How are you going to do that? You said the two of you hardly know each other.
00:06:12I know, but he just got here, so he probably doesn't know a lot of people.
00:06:19Wait, do you remember my friend Andy?
00:06:21The hockey player?
00:06:22Yeah, that's the one.
00:06:23Oh yeah, you guys went out a few times, right?
00:06:25Yeah, so we're still friends, and he called me and wanted to know if I wanted to go pick out a Christmas tree with him.
00:06:31He says I have some sort of expert eye.
00:06:34Anyway, we're going Wednesday night.
00:06:36What if you came with, and then maybe I can invite Nate to come along too?
00:06:41It'll be fun and Christmassy, and who knows, maybe there'll be some sparks between you two.
00:06:46Are you sure you feel okay about doing this for me?
00:06:49Of course.
00:06:51You're the best.
00:07:04Hey.
00:07:05Hey.
00:07:06Coming to second period?
00:07:07I wish Brandon forgot his gym stuff.
00:07:09Oh, and you get a break from the office.
00:07:11Yeah, except I don't really have time for one until December 26th.
00:07:14It's the season.
00:07:16Here, I can bring it for you and make sure that he gets it.
00:07:19Oh, thanks, that would be great.
00:07:22Nate, the vice principal, my friend Allison, we're going to help my friend Andy pick out a Christmas tree tomorrow.
00:07:30You should come with us. It'll be fun. We can all do dinner first.
00:07:34Thanks for the offer, but I'm building this annual Jingle Bell Jubilee brick by brick, so I will be burning the midnight oil.
00:07:41Well, don't burn yourself out. It's almost Christmas.
00:07:43Thanks. I'll do my best.
00:07:46But seriously, it might be nice for you to get out and start reconnecting with people here, right?
00:07:52After all, you are a public servant. Kind of got to meet the public.
00:07:58Okay, okay. Yeah, I could use a break. Brain overload.
00:08:03How about, here's my number and you just text me the deets?
00:08:16Okay, so the Christmas Cherry Drive is over there. That's that area, right near the entrance.
00:08:31And then instead of having a Santa booth, I put Santa in the middle of it all.
00:08:35They're just mocking it up to give us a feel for it.
00:08:38Well, it's a new arrangement, but you know what? I think it might work better than what we had before.
00:08:44Great. I've been reconnecting with the vendors and they're going to tell me what's what. Help me piece the rest together.
00:08:49Excellent. Then I'll be...
00:08:51Oh, oh, about the Christmas Charity Drive. The donated gifts, where are they being stored? I haven't been able to find...
00:08:59Uh, well, um...
00:09:03Okay, please don't tell me that there's no donations.
00:09:06No, there are some.
00:09:09From what I've heard, a lot of people depend on the drive to have a good Christmas.
00:09:13Well, of course, there are some, just not nearly enough. Again, nobody's really had the time to publicize this.
00:09:20Okay.
00:09:21But you know what? You're a capable and a creative individual. We just need to jumpstart the donations and you're just the man to do it.
00:09:28But how am I possibly going to get that many donations in time?
00:09:31Well, there's a will, there's a way. Hope springs eternal.
00:09:34Ah, Hope.
00:09:43Hope?
00:09:48Oh, hey, you're here early.
00:10:01Thank goodness you are too.
00:10:03Oh, what's going on? Is everything okay?
00:10:05I need to talk to you about something. It's really, really important.
00:10:08What?
00:10:16So, if the whole school loves your annual re-giftmas tradition, then why not the whole city? I mean, that could be the spark that the Christmas Gift Drive needs.
00:10:25Wow, Nate, uh, I'm speechless.
00:10:30So you like the idea?
00:10:31I love the idea.
00:10:33Okay, then, we gotta go fast. Um, can you make it to city hall tomorrow? We can pitch it to the mayor.
00:10:39Me?
00:10:40And me. What do you say?
00:10:43Uh, I say I'll come on my lunch hour.
00:10:47Okay, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
00:10:51Hey, Allison, Andy.
00:10:54Hey, hey.
00:10:55Hey.
00:10:57Yeah, I spotted him in the parking lot on the way in.
00:11:00No, I watch a lot of the games.
00:11:02Oh, the games.
00:11:04Uh, yeah, this is my friend Andy. He's a semi-pro hockey player.
00:11:07Oh.
00:11:08He's really good.
00:11:10Andy, this is Nate.
00:11:12Good to meet you, Nate.
00:11:13Likewise.
00:11:14Hi, Nate.
00:11:15Hi, Allison. Good to see you again.
00:11:21So, hockey, huh? That can get a little rough.
00:11:24Well, I haven't lost a tooth yet.
00:11:27Oh, well, that's good for you and your dentist.
00:11:31Nate just had the greatest idea.
00:11:33Well, I hope it is.
00:11:35We are going to try to do regiftness for the Jingle Bell Jubilee Christmas Charity Drive.
00:11:39Wow.
00:11:40Wow, that'd be awesome. That's the thing with your grandmother's cedar chest, right?
00:11:44Yeah, yeah.
00:11:45Nice.
00:11:46Where did this come from?
00:11:47Well, it's kind of a Hail Mary.
00:11:49Sorry to pivot sports there, Andy.
00:11:51I'll allow it.
00:11:53But the thing is, I've been so focused on the nuts and bolts of getting the Jubilee going
00:11:57that I didn't even realize the gift drive was in trouble.
00:12:00Basically, we have next to nothing in terms of donations.
00:12:03Oh, no.
00:12:04Yeah, so I've got to find a way to generate all the donations in the next couple of weeks
00:12:08or else there's going to be a lot of families missing out on Christmas this year.
00:12:11So, maybe regiftness is the answer.
00:12:14I hope so.
00:12:15I feel your pain.
00:12:17It's really hard to pull off these big events and people have no idea how much work goes into it.
00:12:23But in the end, it's really fun being able to put all the pieces together, isn't it?
00:12:27You know what? It is.
00:12:29Hey, I like her.
00:12:31What's not to like?
00:12:41Yeah, I've been coming to this tree lot for years now.
00:12:45This is really fun.
00:12:46It is.
00:12:47I don't normally get a tree until a little later.
00:12:50But, I don't know, maybe I should get one tonight, too.
00:12:53I mean, what's the point in wasting time coming back here, right?
00:12:57Hey, efficiency.
00:12:58That's another point in your favor.
00:13:03Looks like your setup's working out.
00:13:06It's not a setup.
00:13:08It's not even a date, really.
00:13:10Come on, Hope.
00:13:11It's totally a date now.
00:13:12And first dates are usually disasters.
00:13:15Remember ours?
00:13:16You didn't even know what the biscuit was?
00:13:18Yeah.
00:13:20Come on.
00:13:21Hope, you don't remember?
00:13:23That's what we call the puck.
00:13:25Right.
00:13:26The puck.
00:13:27To be fair, it's been a while, Andy.
00:13:29Okay.
00:13:30Let's put that expert eye of yours to work.
00:13:33You overestimate my gifts.
00:13:35Not at all.
00:13:36You are a tree whisperer.
00:13:38All right.
00:13:39All right.
00:13:48All right.
00:13:50Not too tall.
00:13:52Not too small.
00:13:54Good branch distribution.
00:13:58And not dried out.
00:14:00This is the one.
00:14:03Awesome.
00:14:06And I left my wallet in the truck.
00:14:08As you always do.
00:14:09Well, everybody's got a spiel.
00:14:11I'm reliable.
00:14:15So, I've decided I'm going to get my treat tonight.
00:14:19Oh, great.
00:14:20And I have decided that I'm going to get some cookies for me and Brandon to split.
00:14:25But I was wondering, Hope, can I talk to you about something?
00:14:28I have an idea about pitching re-giftmas to the mayor.
00:14:32Sure.
00:14:33Okay.
00:14:39Okay.
00:14:45I think if you explain it the same way you did to me, he'll jump right on it.
00:14:50I don't know.
00:14:51The mayor.
00:14:52Yeah, but at this point, he'll jump on anything.
00:14:55Oh, it's not just anything.
00:14:58I know.
00:14:59No, it's an incredible idea.
00:15:01And that's why I want to convince him to let me run with it.
00:15:05So, um, are you having fun tonight?
00:15:11Yeah, actually, I am.
00:15:13Yeah, you were right.
00:15:16It's nice to get out and not think about work for a few hours.
00:15:21And, um, what do you think of Allison?
00:15:28Allison?
00:15:29Yeah.
00:15:30This, this isn't, uh, come on.
00:15:36I'm sorry.
00:15:37I, I should have asked.
00:15:39Are you dating anyone in Arbor City?
00:15:42Oh, no, no, it's nothing to do with that.
00:15:44Oh.
00:15:45Well, are you open to dating anyone?
00:15:52Honestly, um, I don't know.
00:15:56This is none of my business.
00:15:58Uh, no, it's, it's fine.
00:16:00It's, uh, even Brandon tells me the same thing that I need to get out more.
00:16:05And I know he's right.
00:16:08It's been three years since my wife Shelly passed.
00:16:12And I just haven't seen anyone at all.
00:16:18I can't believe I'm telling you this.
00:16:20Oh, it's okay, Nate.
00:16:22Oh, it's okay, Nate.
00:16:23Um, when you're ready already, you'll know.
00:16:34You know, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.
00:16:39It doesn't have to be serious.
00:16:44Hey, Nate.
00:16:46Would you come look at this tree?
00:16:48I could use a second opinion.
00:16:51Yeah, yeah, of course.
00:16:53I don't have the expert eye of hope, but sure.
00:17:02So, I kind of had my eye on this one.
00:17:04Yeah?
00:17:05What do you think?
00:17:07All right.
00:17:08Oh.
00:17:09Ready to pick.
00:17:10Quick.
00:17:11Now, you're sure this tree you picked me out is the one?
00:17:14Are you questioning the tree, Whisperer?
00:17:17Of course not.
00:17:18I would never.
00:17:21I miss you.
00:17:23We should do something after this.
00:17:25Oh, um.
00:17:26Well, I'm kind of tired, Andy.
00:17:29I have more grading to do.
00:17:30I should probably just get home.
00:17:32No problem.
00:17:38They, uh, make a pretty good couple.
00:17:41Right.
00:17:42That's why I asked you to come.
00:17:44Well, thank you.
00:17:45Yeah.
00:17:46Uh, yeah.
00:17:47Yeah, they do.
00:17:51Okay.
00:17:59Okay, but that's around double what you traded us last time.
00:18:02Yes, I know.
00:18:03Sad to see still-grown trees.
00:18:05Not even Christmas trees.
00:18:08Uh.
00:18:09You know what?
00:18:10There's a great place in Arbor City that can send me one for a much lower price, so.
00:18:15Okay.
00:18:16Yeah, that works much better.
00:18:18Let's consider it a done deal, and thank you for serving our city.
00:18:23Wow.
00:18:24I'm happy I at least have the line budget for last year's Jubilee.
00:18:27Some of these vendors are getting pretty tricky.
00:18:29It's such a busy time of year.
00:18:31I can imagine.
00:18:33Have a seat.
00:18:34I've got so much work to do, they gave me the conference room.
00:18:36Actually, my lunch hour is really only 45 minutes, so I only have about 10 minutes to do this with you.
00:18:42Okay.
00:18:43Well, let's go see the mayor now, then.
00:18:48I assure you the Jingle Bell Jubilee will take place as it has every year.
00:18:54We've got Nate Albertson, our new city manager, working hard on it.
00:18:59And he's just here for a meeting, so I have to go.
00:19:03Bye-bye.
00:19:05We may have a problem.
00:19:07What's that?
00:19:08That was a reporter from the L'Archemont Gazette.
00:19:11She's been hearing rumors that the Jingle Bell Jubilee isn't going to happen.
00:19:15Well, we will just have to prove her wrong, sir.
00:19:17That's just what I like to hear.
00:19:20I'm sorry, who are you?
00:19:22Hope. Hope Wilson. I teach at the high school.
00:19:26It's a pleasure to meet you. The children are our future, you know.
00:19:29That's what I've heard.
00:19:30We are here on some urgent business, sir.
00:19:33Talk to me.
00:19:34Sir, seriously, you don't have to worry about the Jubilee. Everything's under control, except one thing.
00:19:40What's that?
00:19:41What's that?
00:19:42The Christmas charity gift drive.
00:19:44But Hope here has an amazing idea that I believe will turn things around.
00:19:48Okay, let's hear it.
00:19:50Well, it all started with my grandmother's cedar chest.
00:19:53She found that Christmas had become too much about shopping, and thought that we all lost the real meaning of it.
00:20:00That's what people love about re-giftmas.
00:20:02It's the idea of gratitude.
00:20:04That because they've been given so much, they're able to pay it forward to people who really need it.
00:20:10It's just such a huge win-win.
00:20:13And to think it all started with your grandmother's cedar chest.
00:20:19It is an amazing idea.
00:20:21And people won't have to spend all that time shopping.
00:20:24With our time frame, that's a huge advantage.
00:20:28That's what I was thinking, sir.
00:20:30Re-giftmas it is. Run with it.
00:20:32Okay.
00:20:33We'll have to promote this with everything we have.
00:20:36I have to say, you've impressed me, Hope.
00:20:39You have a wonderful heart.
00:20:41Indeed she does, sir.
00:20:43Well, you're lucky to have her.
00:20:46Oh, no, we're not.
00:20:50Just keep me apprised of your progress, Nate.
00:20:54Hope it was nice to meet you.
00:20:56Thank you, sir.
00:20:57And let's get you back to the school.
00:21:00Re-giftmas.
00:21:03Well, I finally got all the vendors lined up for the jubilee, which is a minor miracle.
00:21:07So everything seems to be coming together.
00:21:09Well, thanks for letting Re-giftmas be a part of it.
00:21:11Oh, thank you for introducing it to me in the first place.
00:21:14You were really great, Meg.
00:21:16I was?
00:21:17Yeah.
00:21:18You didn't only explain it to the mayor, you made him feel what it's all about.
00:21:22And not everyone can do that.
00:21:24Well, I'm glad I did.
00:21:25You didn't only explain it to the mayor, you made him feel what it's all about.
00:21:28And not everyone can do that.
00:21:29It's just because I know what Re-giftmas is.
00:21:31Well, I think there's more to it than that.
00:21:35So, how are we going to get the message out about Re-giftmas?
00:21:38I mean, we have to communicate a whole new idea to people and we have, like, no time.
00:21:43Well, that's mission one this afternoon.
00:21:45Awareness campaign.
00:21:46Awareness campaign?
00:21:48Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:21:49Double up the signage around town, double up social media, talk to the community leaders.
00:21:53Sounds like a lot of work.
00:21:55I wish I could stay and help, but Fifth Period's calling.
00:21:59Well, if you're around tonight, maybe I could come by and we could talk about the campaign.
00:22:03Your input would be valuable.
00:22:05Uh, sure.
00:22:07Oh, Alison will be there.
00:22:09She's coming over to help me finish decorating my Christmas tree.
00:22:11But she's really good at community relations stuff.
00:22:14Great. It'll be nice to see her again.
00:22:24Okay, so here's my slogan for Re-giftmas.
00:22:27Give again and enjoy Christmas again.
00:22:33Oh, wow, you even made charts.
00:22:35Uh, what does this all mean?
00:22:38Well, this shows where we're placing the signs and the ads and the number of people we could potentially reach.
00:22:43This, with our internet ads, we will be able to reach a lot of people.
00:22:47You certainly know your stuff.
00:22:49But is it going to reach people?
00:22:50Oh, absolutely.
00:22:52I used to build campaigns just like this one when I worked in Arbor City and they were very effective.
00:22:59What's wrong?
00:23:01When I said reach people, I meant is it going to touch them so they feel motivated to give.
00:23:08Re-giftmas is kind of a new concept. I just don't think a simple ad is going to do the trick.
00:23:13But, hey, you know what you're doing and I don't, so...
00:23:17Just tell me what you're thinking because if I'm missing something, I want to know.
00:23:22Okay, well, take our high school, for instance.
00:23:25People really connected with the Re-giftmas idea and ran with it.
00:23:29But that's because they understood what it meant to the families that it helped and how that felt.
00:23:35If that makes any sense.
00:23:37Nate, the thing that gets people excited about Re-giftmas is the way Hope explains it.
00:23:42Oh, it doesn't have to be me.
00:23:43It doesn't have to be me.
00:23:45Just someone to put some heart into it.
00:23:49But that is you.
00:23:52The way you talk about it, it's like... I don't know.
00:23:56You're just so full of love like something's lighting you up from within.
00:24:00Okay, it's a little much.
00:24:02No, I'm serious.
00:24:04When you lead with your heart, it's really powerful.
00:24:07You move people.
00:24:09Okay, okay, I get it.
00:24:10Okay, I get it.
00:24:12But it's not like we can ask Hope to go door to door and just tell people about her grandma's cedar chest, right?
00:24:17Obviously not.
00:24:19But we still need to get them to feel what this is all about.
00:24:23Why it's so in the spirit of Christmas.
00:24:26She makes a good point, Nate.
00:24:28Not that you don't.
00:24:30If we deliver the right message, people will get it.
00:24:34The most important thing is just getting the message out to as many people as possible.
00:24:38Of course. You're the professional, so...
00:24:41Very professional.
00:24:44Well, it's getting pretty late.
00:24:47Yeah.
00:24:49I've got more work to do and I've got to make sure Brandon gets his homework done.
00:24:52Oh, I wouldn't worry about him. He's a really good kid.
00:24:54He said that you were a really great teacher, too.
00:24:56That's really kind of him.
00:24:58But yeah, we should wrap this up because I have more grading to do and...
00:25:04Yes.
00:25:05Christmas break is only a couple days away.
00:25:07Right.
00:25:09Hey, do you want to go see the ice sculptures in the park?
00:25:12They do them every year and they're gorgeous.
00:25:15Sure, if it can be pretty quick.
00:25:17Sure. Wonderful.
00:25:19Have fun, you two.
00:25:21Thanks, Miss Wilson.
00:25:26So you at least have like 20 minutes, right?
00:25:29Well, that depends if there's a chocolate monster.
00:25:32There definitely will be.
00:25:34Yeah.
00:25:52Very impressed, Nate. You have done a lot quickly and well.
00:25:57Sir?
00:25:59I've seen online ads all over the place.
00:26:00Oh, and the wife and I went out last night.
00:26:03Guess what?
00:26:05Lo and behold, in the restaurant window was a re-giftmas sign.
00:26:08I bet those donations are just pouring in.
00:26:11Well, it always takes a little while to get these things going.
00:26:16So they're not pouring in?
00:26:18Oh, it's still very early.
00:26:21According to the calendar, there are only 10 days left.
00:26:24No worries. I got it covered.
00:26:27Good.
00:26:28Count on you, Nate.
00:26:41Thanks for helping me with those donation boxes.
00:26:44Yeah, no sweat. Happy to help.
00:26:46So is my dad in here?
00:26:48Oh, well, remember, he moved away after junior year.
00:26:51Your book pictures are mostly from senior year.
00:26:55No.
00:26:56No?
00:26:58No, there he is.
00:27:00Let me see.
00:27:03Oh, yeah, that is him.
00:27:05That's probably from homecoming the year before.
00:27:09There's me, right behind him.
00:27:12Oh, weird haircut.
00:27:14Him or me?
00:27:16Definitely him.
00:27:26Hey.
00:27:28Whoa, is that one of our old yearbooks?
00:27:31Yeah. Dad, out of all the weird haircuts in here, I'm gonna say you're the clear champion.
00:27:36Oh, wait, I'm actually in there?
00:27:38I call it more of a cameo.
00:27:40Oh, wow. Nice.
00:27:45So you kidnapped my son?
00:27:47He volunteered to help me bring some boxes of re-gifts home for wrapping.
00:27:50And then he found our yearbook on my shelf.
00:27:53Oh, and here we are.
00:27:55You could have called.
00:27:57I would have brought him home, I know how busy you are.
00:27:59Oh, no, I needed the break.
00:28:01I've been sampling food for the Jubilee.
00:28:03Too much funnel cake.
00:28:05No such thing as too much funnel cake.
00:28:07See, before today, I would have agreed.
00:28:09Um, actually, there's something else I wanted to talk to you about.
00:28:12Yeah, what is it?
00:28:14Well, we've been running our re-giftmas ads for the last two days.
00:28:17Posted up all the extra signs around town.
00:28:19And?
00:28:21But hardly anything's coming in.
00:28:22No.
00:28:24Well, Deb, that doesn't sound good.
00:28:26Well, maybe we just need to leave them up for a couple more days.
00:28:30Unfortunately, I don't have another couple days, though.
00:28:33We're running out of time.
00:28:36I think you and Allison are right.
00:28:38Right about what?
00:28:40I need you.
00:28:43I need you to tell people your story.
00:28:46It's true.
00:28:48I've seen you talk about it a couple times at school, and you know exactly what to say.
00:28:53But I thought we all agreed that there's no practical way to do that.
00:28:57Actually, there is.
00:28:59What are you doing tomorrow?
00:29:22I'm sorry.
00:29:53I can't believe we're going to be on the news.
00:29:56This way, you'll be able to explain re-giftmas in your own way.
00:29:59Well, it sure beats having to go door to door.
00:30:01I think you'd lose your voice by the time you finish the first block.
00:30:04I think this is going to work.
00:30:06Allison is right.
00:30:08You're the secret.
00:30:09The secret?
00:30:10The secret to re-giftmas.
00:30:12If people hear you explain what it's all about, that will motivate them to donate.
00:30:16Well, I believe you.
00:30:17If people hear you explain what it's all about, that will motivate them to donate.
00:30:21Well, I will give it my all.
00:30:23Trust me.
00:30:24You always do.
00:30:26I think this is going to turn things around.
00:30:29Oh, and I wrote a bit of a script.
00:30:31I know it's last minute, but...
00:30:33He's just miking it.
00:30:35Sorry, I've never done anything like this before.
00:30:37Oh, wow, this is a lot to memorize.
00:30:40Oh, I know.
00:30:41Sorry, I wrote it last minute.
00:30:43But it doesn't need to be word for word.
00:30:44But it doesn't need to be word for word.
00:30:46Re-giftmas is just like Christmas.
00:30:49Only with re-gifting.
00:30:52Yeah, um...
00:30:54I don't know.
00:30:55Again, this isn't the kind of language I would use to explain it.
00:30:59I know, but this is going on TV, so it's got to be polished and professional.
00:31:03Of course.
00:31:04And I so appreciate your doing this.
00:31:05It just doesn't sound like me.
00:31:07Maybe I...
00:31:08It's a clear and direct message.
00:31:11Trust me.
00:31:12Trust me.
00:31:13I've done it before.
00:31:14You'll be great.
00:31:17Well, hello, everybody.
00:31:19Oh, uh, sir, I didn't know you were coming.
00:31:21I couldn't help myself.
00:31:23I'm so excited about this idea, I thought I'd come watch.
00:31:27Oh, is that a script?
00:31:29May I?
00:31:34Mm-hmm.
00:31:35Uh-huh.
00:31:38Uh-huh.
00:31:40Is everything all right?
00:31:43Uh, it reads like a commercial.
00:31:48Well, it is in a sense, so that's a good thing, right?
00:31:52Nate, you're a great communicator, but this is a different kind of marketing.
00:31:58You need to explain it like you explained it to me.
00:32:01It doesn't matter if the wording isn't perfect.
00:32:04It's better if it's, uh...
00:32:07What's the word?
00:32:09Unprofessional.
00:32:10Unprofessional.
00:32:12Exactly.
00:32:15Are you ready?
00:32:17Definitely.
00:32:18I've been telling the story a lot.
00:32:19I just need to stay focused.
00:32:22That's why I thought a script might be good.
00:32:23But maybe we could rehearse?
00:32:25No, no, no, let's just do it.
00:32:26The less time I have to think about it, the better.
00:32:28Okay.
00:32:29Let's get rolling, everyone.
00:32:32Just smile at the camera.
00:32:33And here we go.
00:32:37Hello, everyone in Larchmont Falls.
00:32:39We've got some exciting news about this year's Jingle Bell Jubilee.
00:32:42I'm Nate Albertson, the new city manager.
00:32:44And over here is Hope Wilson, an English teacher over at Larchmont High.
00:32:48Hello.
00:32:49And don't worry, I won't be grading anyone today.
00:32:52We would like to tell you all about re-giftmas.
00:32:56It has a very special meaning to me, and I'd like to tell you all why.
00:33:01My grandmother found that Christmas had become too much about shopping.
00:33:05And worried that we had all lost the real meaning of Christmas.
00:33:08So she decided to do something about it.
00:33:10She led by example.
00:33:11Then all her neighbors joined in.
00:33:13And when my grandmother brought over the presents on Christmas Eve,
00:33:15the families were so grateful.
00:33:17They couldn't believe that someone cared enough to make sure that they had a real Merry Christmas.
00:33:22I just, I love the tradition so much that I started doing it in my own classroom.
00:33:27With my grandmother's very own cedar chest.
00:33:30My students bring their presents a month before Christmas,
00:33:33and then we donate them all to the Jingle Bell Jubilee charity drive.
00:33:37So we're asking you to do the same thing.
00:33:40And I want to be honest, we desperately need donations this year, otherwise...
00:33:44So I have faith that there won't be an otherwise.
00:33:48Yeah, I have faith that everyone watching right now has that special present
00:33:52just waiting to be re-gifted to the right person.
00:33:55This is an opportunity to show our gratitude for everything that we've been given,
00:34:00and pay it forward to people who really need it.
00:34:03So please open your hearts and donate.
00:34:06Please bring your re-gifts down to City Hall, where we already have a special kiosk set up for re-giftmas.
00:34:11And by participating, you'll show these families that they are loved.
00:34:15Because after all, isn't that what Christmas is all about?
00:34:18Just spreading the love from one heart to another,
00:34:21and letting the love in from a higher place.
00:34:24A love that warms and lights up the world.
00:34:28Merry Christmas, everyone.
00:34:30And please remember to bring your donations down to the re-gift kiosk
00:34:33inside the City Hall Ballroom by December 20th.
00:34:36And please give.
00:34:50Hey, thanks everyone.
00:34:52Many thanks to you and to Hope.
00:34:54You knocked it out of the park.
00:34:56And you spoke from the heart, which makes all the difference.
00:34:59Thank you, sir. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to do this.
00:35:02Oh, I'm glad you did it.
00:35:04See you back at the office, Nate.
00:35:06And great job, as always.
00:35:08Thank you, sir.
00:35:09Bye-bye.
00:35:12You know what? I think we make a pretty good team.
00:35:15We do.
00:35:21I'm going to go help with the pack-out.
00:35:26Merry Christmas, everyone.
00:35:57Hey.
00:35:58Hey.
00:35:59I guess a few people saw us on the news.
00:36:01I just came down to see if anyone would show up, but...
00:36:04I can't believe this. How is this even possible?
00:36:07Well, because we didn't use my script.
00:36:10Oh, no, Nate. Don't do that.
00:36:12There was nothing wrong with your script.
00:36:14Yeah, I disagree. You were right.
00:36:17And there was one big thing wrong with it.
00:36:20I didn't have a heart.
00:36:22And that's just something I couldn't get on paper.
00:36:25You have it in there.
00:36:27I know you do.
00:36:29Well, speaking of having a heart...
00:36:32Do you think you can apologize to Allison for me?
00:36:35What for?
00:36:37Well, I feel like I didn't really connect with her,
00:36:39and I don't want her to think that I was avoiding her or something.
00:36:42I just didn't have the time.
00:36:44Well, you've been a little busy.
00:36:47Oh, yeah, with the Jingle Bell Jubilee less than a week away,
00:36:50and then doing all this, you can tell that my hands are full.
00:36:54Is that what I think it is?
00:37:00The Mr. and Mrs. Santa photo board!
00:37:03Yeah, I found it in storage.
00:37:06Honestly, I don't know why I never stopped using it.
00:37:09My family used to love that when I was a kid.
00:37:11We have all these photos lined up of us poking our heads through.
00:37:15Yeah, so do we.
00:37:17Except my dad always managed to have his eyes closed in, like, every photo.
00:37:20Oh, yeah.
00:37:22So, well, should we do it?
00:37:25Oh, well, there's no one to work it.
00:37:28Oh, we don't need that. We updated the tech,
00:37:30so now people can take the photos themselves.
00:37:33Yes, please.
00:37:36I'm assuming you know how it works.
00:37:39Uh, well, I'm not sure if I remember...
00:37:44Okay, I'm ready for my close-up.
00:37:46Hurry up, this offer doesn't last long.
00:37:52Okay, how does my hair look?
00:37:54Don't look at me, look at the camera.
00:38:07What was that?
00:38:08That means your photo's ready.
00:38:17Oh, wow, like father, like daughter, the eyes closed.
00:38:21It's a good look.
00:38:23You know, you really managed to bring back the spirit of the Jubilee.
00:38:28Oh, well, thank you.
00:38:30It's honestly been really nice to rebuild it, make it special,
00:38:33the same way it was for me when I was a kid,
00:38:35and now for everyone in town.
00:38:38And you.
00:38:41Oh, there you are.
00:38:43Nate.
00:38:44Hope, you two really did it.
00:38:46Our re-giftmas chest runneth over.
00:38:50That's the Mr. and Mrs. Claus photo board.
00:38:52That was my favorite.
00:38:54Ours too.
00:38:57Whoa, you two need a retake.
00:39:00We'll get right on that, sir.
00:39:12This is great.
00:39:14Yeah, well, I'm glad we did a retake.
00:39:17Yeah, this is cool.
00:39:19But I'm sorry, no matter how well we fit these roles,
00:39:22I am not moving to the North Pole with you.
00:39:24Hey, I'm just impressed I got you out of the office for lunch.
00:39:28Oh, yeah, I have definitely been living off of energy bars lately,
00:39:31so not the healthiest diet, but this is on me.
00:39:34My way of saying thanks again for everything.
00:39:39Hey, how's Brandon doing?
00:39:41Is he enjoying Christmas break?
00:39:43Oh, yeah, he's made a bunch of new friends already he's hanging out with.
00:39:47I'm surprised at how well he's adjusted.
00:39:50It's tough switching towns during high school, you know?
00:39:53Yeah, well, he's a great kid,
00:39:56which means that you must be a great dad.
00:39:59Oh, I do what I can.
00:40:01It's a lot easier now that he's older.
00:40:03I'm not hanging on for dear life.
00:40:05Yeah.
00:40:07Oh.
00:40:10Oh, this is my assistant.
00:40:12Can I take this?
00:40:15Oh, no.
00:40:18I don't know why I didn't think about that.
00:40:22You know what? Yeah.
00:40:24Okay, let me figure that out.
00:40:26Okay, thanks.
00:40:28Is everything okay?
00:40:31Yes, but the plan was to wrap the donations after we inspected them,
00:40:37make them look like gifts.
00:40:39Of course, it's Christmas.
00:40:42Yeah, but we never imagined we would receive so many donations so quickly,
00:40:46so now my staff can't possibly wrap them all in time.
00:40:51Yeah, I don't know why I didn't think that through.
00:40:54Well, how could you possibly have known?
00:40:56Besides, this is a good problem to have.
00:40:59Yeah, that's true.
00:41:01What about a wrap party?
00:41:05A wrap party?
00:41:06Yeah, a gift wrap party.
00:41:08My mom used to hold one for all the parents in the neighborhood,
00:41:11and they would all come over and wrap their presents at this big, long table that we'd set up,
00:41:16and there would be eggnog and then Christmas carols,
00:41:20and when I was old enough, I got to help, and it was a lot of fun.
00:41:27That could definitely work.
00:41:30How about this weekend?
00:41:31We would just have to get started ASAP, especially since donations keep coming in.
00:41:35Yeah, Saturday night, I'll host.
00:41:39I can even invite Allison.
00:41:42Oh, and Andy, that guy's got a ton of energy.
00:41:45We could put it to use.
00:41:46Yeah, yeah, good idea.
00:41:50And now we sprinkle.
00:41:55I am going to eat way too many of these.
00:41:58It's a plan.
00:41:59There's a lot more Christmas eating to come.
00:42:03Hey, thanks for coming early to help.
00:42:05Thank you for getting me together with Nate again.
00:42:07I didn't think I'd see him until after the new year.
00:42:11So you really like him.
00:42:13Yeah, actually, I haven't spent enough time with him, to be honest.
00:42:20I mean, he's certainly everything I want, at least on paper.
00:42:24He ticks all the boxes, as they say.
00:42:28Okay.
00:42:31In about 20 minutes, we'll have more Christmas deliciousness.
00:42:36And now onto the eggnog.
00:42:41I will say, though, Nate seems like a bit of a tough nut to crack.
00:42:46He's a little distant.
00:42:48Yeah, well, don't give up on him.
00:42:50He told me that he hasn't dated anyone since his wife passed away.
00:42:55He just isn't sure if he's ready to be serious about someone yet.
00:42:58I didn't know it was like that.
00:43:00Well, it doesn't have to be a bad thing.
00:43:02Just look at it like he's taking baby steps.
00:43:06But he'll get there.
00:43:08That's good advice.
00:43:10Thanks, Hope.
00:43:13Oh, I guess the eggnog left early.
00:43:20Come in, it's open.
00:43:23Okay, gift wrap, scotch tape, ribbons, extra scissors, we've got it covered.
00:43:29Yeah, we bought out the store yesterday.
00:43:31And this is just the first round of donations, so.
00:43:33Well, good for you, my overgrown elves.
00:43:37Hey, Andy.
00:43:38Hi, Nate.
00:43:39It's good to see you again.
00:43:41You too.
00:43:43So, why don't you guys get started, and eggnog and cookies in just a few minutes.
00:43:47Cookies.
00:43:48Great, I'm starving.
00:43:50Okay, where should we get set up?
00:43:53Oh, cute.
00:43:56Thank you so much.
00:43:59Gift Wrapping Central will be right over there.
00:44:02I'm going to grab the rest of the donations out of the cars.
00:44:05Nate and I had to caravan.
00:44:06Okay.
00:44:07Thanks, Andy.
00:44:09Wow, you really do have it covered.
00:44:11Oh, yeah, we've got a lot of stuff.
00:44:13Ribbons, tape.
00:44:15This is so cute.
00:44:16This is going to be great.
00:44:17Oh, there's paper.
00:44:23Come on, Andy.
00:44:24If there's one snowman left, it's your favorite.
00:44:26Coming.
00:44:31Yeah, I'm having some trouble with this one.
00:44:34Oh, Andy.
00:44:36Yeah, I'm not really a crafts person.
00:44:39Yeah, maybe I should just redo this one.
00:44:42Yeah, thanks.
00:44:44I'm a better skater than I am rapper, I promise.
00:44:47Hey, don't sweat it.
00:44:48We're getting a lot done.
00:44:50There is no way we could have done this all at the office.
00:44:53Thank you so much for all your help.
00:44:55Yeah, it's been really amazing seeing Regiftmas come to life for the whole city.
00:45:00My hands are tired.
00:45:02But I'm glad we were in plan tonight so I could help out.
00:45:05Well, we are so close to done.
00:45:08Why don't I start clearing some of this stuff out of the way?
00:45:11Oh, let me help you.
00:45:12I'll grab some paper towel.
00:45:14Do you need some help?
00:45:15Oh, it's okay.
00:45:16I got this.
00:45:21You still watching our games?
00:45:22Oh, I wouldn't miss them.
00:45:24You guys are on a real winning streak.
00:45:25Yeah, we've been lucky.
00:45:28I gotta tell you, I don't meet a lot of women who watch hockey.
00:45:33Neither do I.
00:45:35But honestly, I would go to every single game in person if I could afford it.
00:45:39You know, you don't have to worry about that.
00:45:42What do you mean?
00:45:43I could leave a pass for you at the box office.
00:45:45We get free tickets to every game.
00:45:47You know, why should they go to waste?
00:45:48You would do that for me?
00:45:49That's honestly not that big of a deal.
00:45:51I would love that.
00:45:53Thanks, Andy.
00:45:54Yeah, cool.
00:45:57Okay, we are going to make this place pop.
00:46:00Oh, I will get some more paper towel.
00:46:06It's okay.
00:46:15Uh, Nate knocked over some nog.
00:46:18Oh.
00:46:19No, I got it. You're in the middle of all that.
00:46:27What?
00:46:29It's just, um, you're really nice.
00:46:33And so, um, understanding about everything.
00:46:39I just wanted you to know that I really appreciate you.
00:46:43Oh, um, thanks, Andy.
00:46:47I appreciate you too.
00:46:51Why, um, don't I help you with that mess?
00:47:00What's going on with you?
00:47:02Sorry.
00:47:03I'm just, uh, lost in my own head.
00:47:07You know how it is.
00:47:08Yeah, sure I do.
00:47:10Yeah, sure I do.
00:47:13Um, uh, let's go, uh, mop up that nog.
00:47:17Why don't we?
00:47:18Yes.
00:47:19Okay.
00:47:26Sorry, my bad.
00:47:28Nate, it's Christmas.
00:47:30All is forgiven.
00:47:32Hey, Andy's going to be playing in a special Christmas tournament.
00:47:37He can get us free passes.
00:47:38Would you want to go?
00:47:39You'll be done with the Jingle Ball Jubilee by then.
00:47:42Oh, sure.
00:47:44I can probably get a ticket for Brandon too, if he was interested.
00:47:47He'd probably love that.
00:47:49I'll, uh, let him know.
00:47:51Hope?
00:47:52Oh, it's very sweet of you, Andy, but hockey's not really my thing.
00:47:56I know. I remember.
00:47:58Here, I'll finish this off.
00:48:00Oh, oh.
00:48:01Oh, nice.
00:48:02That'll do it.
00:48:03That's about it.
00:48:04We just have to load the presents into the vehicles.
00:48:06Yeah, we got a lot done tonight.
00:48:08We sure did.
00:48:09We are a lean, mean gift wrapping machine.
00:48:12I'll go throw these out for you.
00:48:14Sorry.
00:48:15No, I'll help.
00:48:20Thanks again for hosting this.
00:48:22My staff is dreading trying to put all this together on their own.
00:48:25You're going to make me look like a hero at work.
00:48:27Well, I feel like you already do.
00:48:29Everything you did with the Jubilee and the gifts, Nate, it really means a lot to me.
00:48:34It means a lot to me too.
00:48:38You really saved the charity drive.
00:48:56I should go help with the gifts.
00:49:00Okay.
00:49:08Knock, knock.
00:49:10Oh, hey, Andy. Come on in.
00:49:12I unloaded the presents where you told me to, so you're good to go, bro.
00:49:16Good to go. Thank you.
00:49:23Is everything else okay?
00:49:25Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:26You know, just Christmas.
00:49:28It's right around the corner.
00:49:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:32Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:34Just Christmas. It's right around the corner.
00:49:37Yeah, right around the corner.
00:49:43So Hope's really awesome.
00:49:45Love having her around.
00:49:47Yeah, yeah.
00:49:48It's great getting to catch up with her again after all these years.
00:49:52I bet.
00:49:53Yeah.
00:49:54How are you and Allison getting along?
00:49:58Oh, we're good.
00:50:00I mean, we're just getting to know each other.
00:50:04So, like, no big deal?
00:50:07Oh, yeah. Yeah, I guess.
00:50:11Okay.
00:50:16Hey, Andy, is something else on your mind?
00:50:21I need to talk to Hope about something important,
00:50:26and I don't know how to do it, and I don't know what she's going to say.
00:50:31Okay, about what?
00:50:35I don't want to say.
00:50:37Is that cool? I just need to talk to Hope first.
00:50:41Yeah, yeah.
00:50:47Yeah, okay, well, gotta get to practice.
00:50:52Well, if you do want to talk about whatever, you...
00:50:56Yeah, I know where to come. City Hall.
00:50:59Yeah.
00:51:01Well, thanks again for bringing the gifts, not to mention all the wrapping you've done.
00:51:05It's been a big help.
00:51:07No problem. Have a good day, boss.
00:51:09Yeah, you too.
00:51:24I thought some hot tea might be nice.
00:51:26You thought right. Thank you, sir.
00:51:29Oh, that is the least I could do after you helped fix the great gift-wrapping catastrophe.
00:51:35Oh, Andy tried his best.
00:51:37Yes, but his unique approach to gift-wrapping didn't go over too well with my staff,
00:51:41which is why I asked you quietly to come over and fix his more challenging attempts.
00:51:47I didn't want to hurt his feelings.
00:51:49Could have asked Allison.
00:51:51No one wraps like you do, and I didn't want to take any chances.
00:51:54Well, you're right. All our re-gifts need to look beautiful for everyone who's getting them.
00:51:58And basically never let Andy near a roll of gift-wrapping again.
00:52:01Oh, don't be so hard on him. Maybe it was meant to be.
00:52:07With great re-gifting comes great re-wrapping.
00:52:11You might be on to something.
00:52:21So what's the deal with you two?
00:52:23With who, dude?
00:52:24Well, you and Andy.
00:52:25Me and Andy? Uh, nothing. We're just friends.
00:52:30Oh, so you two never dated?
00:52:33Oh, yeah, well, we went out a couple of times, but it never went anywhere.
00:52:39You know, he's a hockey player, always on the road, and...
00:52:45What?
00:52:47Nothing. It's just we had a very strange conversation earlier.
00:52:51First he asked me how things were going with me and Allison.
00:52:54Oh?
00:52:56In which I said things were going fine.
00:53:00Yeah, but she does really like you, and you guys seem to have a lot of fun together.
00:53:07Honestly, it's just fun getting to go out with adults again after being a single dad for so long.
00:53:13Yeah, I bet. I know this is new territory for you, so good for you for taking it on.
00:53:22So, um, what was the other thing?
00:53:26Uh, what other thing?
00:53:28What else did Andy say?
00:53:30Uh, nothing. He just started talking about how great you are.
00:53:34Oh. Okay, that's odd.
00:53:37In what way?
00:53:38Oh, when we were in the kitchen yesterday, he told me he appreciated me, and then he kind of just stared at me for a few seconds.
00:53:45Really?
00:53:46Yeah, I feel like he was trying to get at something.
00:53:49I shouldn't have said anything.
00:53:52Never mind.
00:53:54Never mind what?
00:53:56I shouldn't.
00:53:57Shouldn't what?
00:53:58He said he wanted to ask you something. Something, and I quote, important.
00:54:04Well, did he say anything else?
00:54:06No, he just seemed serious.
00:54:09No. No, Andy is never that serious.
00:54:13I know, but he was definitely serious.
00:54:15I mean, he's been spending a lot of time with you, helping out Marie Giffmans.
00:54:19Maybe he realized something.
00:54:23Could you possibly be a little bit more vague?
00:54:27Maybe Mr. Hockey Star wants another shot.
00:54:32With you.
00:54:45Well, maybe. We can also have another wrapping party.
00:54:49Beyond my wildest dreams.
00:54:51Yeah. How are you guys doing? Doing good? Having fun?
00:54:55Yes. Yeah. We're good.
00:55:00Nate, you did an amazing job.
00:55:07Hey, uh, we'll pop back by in a little bit.
00:55:10Come with me. I want to buy you a Santa cupcake at the hot chocolate kiosk.
00:55:13His hat. All ice.
00:55:16Oh, okay. Well, that's a sugar high waiting to happen.
00:55:21Bye.
00:55:23Bye.
00:55:33Andy, uh, is something going on?
00:55:37Did Nate tell you?
00:55:39Tell me what?
00:55:40That I wanted to ask you something. He was looking at us like something was going on.
00:55:45He did tell me that you had something important to ask me.
00:55:49I wish he hadn't.
00:55:51I know. I'm sorry, but look, I'm good to just let the whole thing go.
00:55:56But there is something that I want to ask you.
00:55:59Okay. Just ask it.
00:56:02I'm just hoping that you're going to be okay with what I'm about to say.
00:56:05Andy, just ask it.
00:56:11This is really hard.
00:56:14Why?
00:56:16Well, you and I went out a couple of times, and I don't know how you feel about me.
00:56:21I feel that you are a really great friend.
00:56:29Yes, exactly. And it's good to keep it that way.
00:56:33Uh, yeah?
00:56:35Okay, this is maybe going to be easier than I thought.
00:56:39I wanted to ask you about Allison.
00:56:43Allison?
00:56:45I kind of have a crush on her.
00:56:48You do? I've been wondering for a little while.
00:56:52I think that she might have a crush on you, too.
00:56:55She does?
00:56:57Well, what about Nate?
00:56:59I mean, I would ask her myself, but if they're getting along, then I don't want to interfere.
00:57:04I'm not really sure.
00:57:06Could you find out?
00:57:08Andy, it's kind of a big ask, but Allison and I do tell each other everything,
00:57:13and she's supposed to drop by here soon, so I can't make any promises.
00:57:17Thank you. Thank you, Hope.
00:57:19Easy, big guy.
00:57:27I wish my house was this delicious.
00:57:30Yeah, but then it would slowly disappear, piece by piece.
00:57:34Slowly, and then I'd just bake another one.
00:57:37You know, Nate insisted on bringing this booth back, too.
00:57:41He remembered it from when we were kids.
00:57:44Well, he is one smart cookie.
00:57:47He sure is.
00:57:51I just wish that, uh...
00:57:56What? I thought you two had a lot in common.
00:58:00No, we do, but...
00:58:02I just think that's the problem.
00:58:05The other night when we were out for hot chocolate...
00:58:08Yeah?
00:58:10We ended up talking about management theories for an hour.
00:58:13Not very romantic.
00:58:15Yeah.
00:58:17And to be honest, it didn't really feel like we had much else to talk about.
00:58:20Our get-togethers are starting to feel more like staff meetings.
00:58:24Ouch.
00:58:26So we talked it out, and we decided...
00:58:29No more dates.
00:58:31Oh.
00:58:33Yeah.
00:58:35I'm sorry. I thought you two would really hit it off.
00:58:39Oh, it's okay. You tried.
00:58:41I tried, and even Nate tried.
00:58:43So, no harm, no foul.
00:58:47But then, I guess I should tell you, um...
00:58:51Well, I found out what Andy wanted to ask me about.
00:58:55Okay.
00:58:57Turns out the person he wanted to ask about was...
00:59:00You.
00:59:02He likes you.
00:59:04Like a lot.
00:59:06Really?
00:59:08Really.
00:59:10Oh, this is the best Christmas present a girl could ever ask for.
00:59:13Huh?
00:59:15Hey.
00:59:17Oh, hi.
00:59:19Hey.
00:59:21Who's watching the weekend hospice?
00:59:23Oh, Brandon and some of his buddies.
00:59:25But listen, the mayor is making a speech soon, and he wants us to stand on stage with him.
00:59:29Us? Like me and you?
00:59:32Yeah, like me and you.
00:59:34Oh, okay.
00:59:36Oh.
00:59:38Hey, um, can you two give us a minute?
00:59:41Uh, yeah, sure, yeah. We'll catch up with you guys later.
00:59:48Don't they make such a great couple?
00:59:51Wait, what?
00:59:53I thought Andy was going to ask you out again.
00:59:56Uh, no. Turns out Andy just wanted to know if it was okay if he could ask Allison out.
01:00:02That's a twist.
01:00:05So, you and Nate, that's more of a friendship thing?
01:00:10Yeah.
01:00:12So, would it be okay if we went out sometime?
01:00:17Like you and me?
01:00:19Andy, I would love that.
01:00:21Me too.
01:00:23Great.
01:00:25Hey, do you want to go get some hot chocolate?
01:00:28I would love that.
01:00:30Plus, I heard they have those, uh, Santa cupcakes?
01:00:33Even better.
01:00:44What are we, celebrities now?
01:00:46Yeah.
01:00:51What's the news report?
01:00:53You wouldn't believe how many people came up to me in the booth and thought we were, like, uh...
01:00:57Like, uh, what?
01:00:59A couple or something.
01:01:01Well, hey, maybe we should hold hands once in a while.
01:01:05Give the people what they want.
01:01:16I think my experience with Allison has taught me something.
01:01:19And that is...
01:01:21I'm definitely not ready.
01:01:25Uh, how do you know that?
01:01:29Oh, well...
01:01:31While Allison and I were hanging out...
01:01:34I just kept avoiding anything that would make it more of a real relationship.
01:01:40And I think that is a...
01:01:41Anything that would make it more of a real relationship.
01:01:44And I think that is a...
01:01:46A red flag.
01:01:49Maybe I'll never be ready.
01:01:51It doesn't happen to us, and that's just...
01:01:54How it's supposed to be.
01:01:57But...
01:01:59It's your life, Nate.
01:02:01It can be whatever you want it to be.
01:02:05I know, I just...
01:02:09But it has been...
01:02:11A nice...
01:02:13Spending time with you.
01:02:17You make it sound like we'll never see each other again.
01:02:21Oh, oh, no, like...
01:02:23It's just...
01:02:26Re-giftmas, Christmas, the whole Jingle Bell Jubilee...
01:02:31You know...
01:02:33It'll all be done.
01:02:35And soon the Christmas will all be gone.
01:02:37And we just gotta get back to reality.
01:02:42I...
01:02:43Yeah, yeah, we will.
01:02:45Yeah.
01:02:47You ready to take the stage?
01:02:50Yes, sir.
01:02:52You know, maybe it should just be Nate, because...
01:02:55I wasn't that involved.
01:02:57Hope, your re-giftmas idea has made this a Christmas to remember...
01:03:02For a lot of needy families.
01:03:04I'm not getting up on that stage without you.
01:03:08Come on.
01:03:18And I hope you all enjoyed this year's Jingle Bell Jubilee.
01:03:23Personally, I think it may be the best we've ever had.
01:03:30Now, on that note, I'd like to introduce you to two people...
01:03:34That you may already be acquainted with.
01:03:37Our new city manager, Nate Albertson...
01:03:40And one brilliant school teacher, Hope Wilson.
01:03:49What you all may not know...
01:03:52Is just a little while ago, our annual Christmas charity drive...
01:03:56Was in deep, deep trouble.
01:03:58Then these two young people found a way to turn it around...
01:04:02By introducing all of us to the concept of re-giftmas.
01:04:07Result? A record number of donations this year...
01:04:11Far surpassing past efforts.
01:04:18Which is why Nate and Hope...
01:04:22Will each be receiving special recognition medals...
01:04:25From the city of Larchmont Falls...
01:04:28To honor everything they've accomplished for our town.
01:04:32Take a bow, you two!
01:04:38One more thing, don't forget...
01:04:41About our annual Christmas Eve Jingle Bell Dance...
01:04:44Tonight at 7, right here in City Hall.
01:04:47And I want to wish each and every one of you...
01:04:50A Merry Christmas.
01:05:04Thanks again, you guys.
01:05:06Thanks again, you two.
01:05:08I'll see that you get those medals as soon as possible.
01:05:11Nate, who looks after the medals?
01:05:13I do, sir.
01:05:15Well, we're in good hands.
01:05:17Now I expect to see both of you back here...
01:05:20At the Jingle Bell Dance tonight.
01:05:22Oh, I don't know...
01:05:24Oh, no, no, no, no.
01:05:26This is one of the high points of the Jubilee...
01:05:28And I will not take no for an answer.
01:05:30You two represent the best the city has to offer...
01:05:33Ergo, you will both be there.
01:05:36I'll see you later.
01:05:42Well, he is the boss.
01:05:44Or my boss, at least.
01:05:48Are you gonna come?
01:05:51Uh...
01:05:53No, no, I don't think so.
01:05:56Pretty wiped out.
01:05:58Yeah, I gotta...
01:06:01It still might be nice to...
01:06:06I don't know...
01:06:11Yeah, you should...
01:06:13You should go home and rest.
01:06:15You did your part.
01:06:18Are you sure?
01:06:20Because...
01:06:22I could...
01:06:24I could come.
01:06:26Uh...
01:06:27No.
01:06:29Uh...
01:06:31No.
01:06:33No, that's okay.
01:06:35You have done more than enough.
01:06:41Well, if that's how you look at it...
01:06:48Have a good Christmas, Hope.
01:06:50Yeah, you too.
01:06:57Bye.
01:07:15See you guys tomorrow.
01:07:17Hey, aren't you coming to the dance?
01:07:19Yeah, cause...
01:07:21Guess what?
01:07:23What?
01:07:25We're going together.
01:07:27That's so great, you guys.
01:07:29But no, I'm gonna sit this one out.
01:07:33But you guys have fun, okay?
01:07:37What?
01:07:39I don't know, we just thought since the two of us are going together...
01:07:42Yeah, you and Nate would come with and...
01:07:45I don't think so, Andy.
01:07:47It's not what he wants.
01:07:49You don't know that.
01:07:51No, I do.
01:07:53Yeah, he told me that after everything that happened with you,
01:07:54it just kind of proved to him that he's not ready.
01:07:58Okay, but...
01:08:00And this is just a theory.
01:08:02What if the reason Nate didn't want to be with me
01:08:05is because he actually wants to be with you, but he just can't see it?
01:08:10Maybe, but...
01:08:12No, I...
01:08:14Hope, when we're out on the ice and things are getting hairy,
01:08:17sometimes we need to push one of the guys to do the thing that he needs to do.
01:08:20Maybe that's what Nate needs.
01:08:22A little push.
01:08:24You could use one, too.
01:08:26I really appreciate the advice, you guys, but...
01:08:29I need to respect Nate's wishes.
01:08:32Forgiveness is behind us now, and...
01:08:34It was amazing, and I am so lucky.
01:08:37But I just... I need to move on with my life.
01:08:42But you guys have fun, okay?
01:08:44Really.
01:08:46Hope.
01:08:54Okay.
01:09:24I love you.
01:09:26I love you, too.
01:09:54Oh, look at you two.
01:09:56Yeah, well, it kind of worked out, I guess.
01:09:58Thanks to you and Hope.
01:10:00Great party, by the way.
01:10:02Well, you'll have to give the credit to the Chamber of Commerce.
01:10:05They handle the Jingle Bell Dance,
01:10:07which was good for me because I had enough on my plate.
01:10:10So Hope didn't show?
01:10:12No, no.
01:10:14Yeah, I don't know.
01:10:16I don't know.
01:10:18I don't know.
01:10:20I don't know.
01:10:22I don't know.
01:10:24She said she wasn't going to, but...
01:10:26We were kind of hoping that maybe...
01:10:29Yeah, yeah, I sort of was, too, but...
01:10:32I can't plan on it.
01:10:34Well, you look like his dance partner.
01:10:37Oh, no, no, that's okay.
01:10:39You two go ahead.
01:10:41After all, you just got together.
01:10:43Oh, come on, it's just one dance, Nate.
01:10:45Do you mind?
01:10:47No, he's gonna be better at not stepping on your toes anyways.
01:10:49I'm gonna go get some fun.
01:10:51Come on.
01:10:53Come on.
01:11:02I wanted to tell you, Allison,
01:11:04I'm sorry you and I, like,
01:11:06I just don't think I was ready.
01:11:09Nate,
01:11:11did you ever think that maybe you weren't ready
01:11:13because I'm not the right person for you?
01:11:15And maybe if you were with the right person...
01:11:18You're not talking about a specific person, are you?
01:11:20Well, I'm talking hypothetically.
01:11:23Hypothetically?
01:11:25Okay, not hypothetically.
01:11:27I'm talking about hope.
01:11:30Yeah, I mean, I just...
01:11:33I think I pushed her away one too many times,
01:11:35and now I can't stop thinking about her.
01:11:37What do you mean?
01:11:39I mean, the giftless is over.
01:11:42This whole time, I was able to be with hope
01:11:44without admitting to myself how much it meant to me.
01:11:47And, uh,
01:11:48I could just tell myself I was doing my job.
01:11:51Nate, everybody knew you weren't just doing your job.
01:11:57Yeah, except that one person I mattered the most.
01:12:19Sorry, Allison.
01:12:21I think I need to cut in.
01:12:23Yeah, you do.
01:12:49You showed up.
01:12:51Yeah, I did.
01:12:54What changed your mind?
01:12:57Well, I went home,
01:12:59and I saw my grandmother's cedar chest
01:13:01right back in my living room.
01:13:03I just thought about how she was so unselfish.
01:13:05She always cared so much about other people,
01:13:08not about herself,
01:13:10and I always tried to be like that.
01:13:12But what makes me happy is making other people happy.
01:13:15I swear, you'll forgive me so much.
01:13:16I know.
01:13:18But I realized that
01:13:21I was making myself pretend
01:13:23that I didn't have feelings for you.
01:13:25First, because Allison wanted to date you,
01:13:27and then because you told me you weren't ready,
01:13:29and I wanted to respect that.
01:13:31But then,
01:13:33I couldn't help but think about how sad you would be
01:13:36when I left the ceremony,
01:13:38and I just started to wonder,
01:13:41what if what I want
01:13:43is really what you want?
01:13:47What if those two things,
01:13:49they just, they line up?
01:13:52I started thinking a lot
01:13:54after you left.
01:13:57And
01:13:59I think, yes, we'll see.
01:14:02You might be onto something.
01:14:04Really?
01:14:06Really.
01:14:27I guess it's not just what we want.
01:14:30It's what they want.
01:14:33So you know what they say,
01:14:35let's give the people what they want.
