00:00At the beginning of the movie, we see a little girl named Jenny playing with her toys in
00:05the attic of her house.
00:06Just then, a bird lands on the skylight, and Jenny tells her toys that the bird is trying
00:11to give them a message.
00:13She picks up her doll Scarlett, climbs over some boxes, and heads toward the bird.
00:17We then see Jeff Vaughn, an illustrator, and Jenny's dad showing his work to Samantha,
00:23Jenny's babysitter.
00:25Jenny notices the bird has gone missing, and suddenly, Scarlett falls from her hand.
00:30Just then, Jeff's wife Maggie returns home, and at that moment, the bird hits the glass,
00:35causing Jenny to startle and fall.
00:37Jeff rushes to Jenny but finds Maggie already by her side, noticing Jenny's forehead is
00:42bleeding.
00:43Maggie blames Samantha, saying she pays her to take care of Jenny.
00:47Then, she criticizes Jeff for not working and not showing any work.
00:52They begin to argue, and when Maggie tells Jeff that he is unemployable, he falls silent.
00:57Maggie begins to take Jenny to the hospital, but tells Jeff he can't come with them, and
01:02when he asks what she means, she simply says goodbye before leaving.
01:06A few days later, Maggie files for divorce and seeks full custody of Jenny, citing Jeff's
01:12alleged inability to act responsibly.
01:15Jeff tries to explain it was an accident, but the legal officer informs him that Maggie
01:19claims he hasn't held a steady job for three years.
01:23Paul adds that Jeff can't even manage his own mortgage, let alone provide a stable home
01:28for Jenny.
01:29Jeff asks Maggie why she's trying to destroy his life, to which Maggie acknowledges his
01:34love for Jenny, but insists he can't afford to care for her as she can.
01:39They offer him a check to start anew, but Jeff refuses, saying it's not what he wants.
01:44Later, Jeff suggests to Maggie that they should return to their house and resolve the custody
01:49issue together, however, she reminds him that it's her house he's currently living in.
01:54The next day, while Jeff is with Jenny, he is approached by Connor, an old college friend.
02:00Connor informs Jeff that he started his own comic book company last year, which was recently
02:05acquired by Stun Gun.
02:06Jeff confides that his wife left him last week, and they're meeting to discuss custody
02:11of their daughter.
02:12Connor suggests Jeff visit his offices, as they're expanding and could offer him opportunities.
02:18He offers to introduce Jeff to potential connections.
02:21As they talk, Jeff receives a call from Maggie, who informs him she has been granted sole
02:26custody and her father wants her to oversee a job in Seattle.
02:30Shocked and upset, Jeff protests that it's unfair, to which Maggie coldly states that
02:35she's trying to get away from him.
02:37Jeff hints at reconsidering and seeing her in court, but Maggie warns him that any challenge
02:42will result in him losing Jenny forever.
02:45Suddenly, Maggie is struck and killed in a hit and run accident.
02:50At Maggie's funeral, while Paul talks to Jeff, Jeff notices Jenny painting the wall
02:55with ketchup.
02:56When he approaches her, she remarks, baby is painting like daddy.
03:00He asks her to stop talking like that, but she defiantly declares she hates him and wants
03:05mommy back before walking away.
03:07Jeff tries to calm everyone by thanking them for coming, but during his speech, a candle
03:12falls, igniting the painting.
03:14Distracted, Jeff watches in horror as his face in the painting seems to melt, but Samantha
03:20quickly puts out the fire.
03:22After the funeral, Paul informs Jeff that the police have no leads on finding the car
03:27or the driver that hit Maggie.
03:29Jeff expresses frustration but acknowledges they must let the police handle it.
03:33Paul then asks about Jeff's plans for Jenny, and Jeff insists he intends to take care of
03:38her.
03:39Jeff suggests they consider what's best for Jenny and proposes Jeff think about her
03:43spending time with him.
03:45Later, Jeff hears Jenny talking in her room, but upon entering, he finds her asleep with
03:50a video playing on her tablet.
03:52Later that night, Jeff is startled awake by strange noises and investigates, only to encounter
03:57a demonic puppet emerging from behind a door and moving toward him.
04:02Terrified, Jeff stumbles backward and falls.
04:05As the entity approaches, he panics, and then suddenly wakes up from the nightmare.
04:10However, Jeff is unsettled when he hears a noise and sees a demonic figure standing in
04:16the corner of his room, and as it turns its head towards him, Jeff wakes up again.
04:22The next morning, Paul visits Jeff and hands him a petition for custody, stating that they
04:27will let the family court decide the matter once again.
04:30He explains that Maggie wanted to take Jenny away from Jeff before she died, so he is determined
04:36to fulfill her wish.
04:37Later, Jeff visits Connor's office and prepares to take an inking job, as he urgently needs
04:43employment.
04:44That evening, Jeff tells Samantha that he got a small job that he can do from home,
04:49which allows him to be with Jenny, which he thinks is great.
04:52Samantha asks if he has ever considered that maybe Paul was right, and Jenny should stay
04:57with him for a while so Jeff can focus on work, to which Jeff firmly responds that it
05:02will never happen.
05:04Later, while Jeff is working, his hands suddenly start moving on their own, and when he regains
05:09control, he sees that he has sketched a dark entity.
05:13Suddenly, Jenny interrupts him, saying she heard something in her room.
05:17Jeff goes to check but finds nothing, and assures her that everything is okay.
05:22He then tells her about his new job, and Jenny asks if that means daddy is giving baby away
05:27to grandpa.
05:28Jeff reassures her that he will never give her away, and then asks why she's been talking
05:33strangely, to which Jenny admits she's sad and didn't mean what she said before.
05:38The next day, Jeff shows his work to Connor, accidentally leaving the dark sketch in his
05:44file.
05:45However, Connor and his partner Alan are impressed by all the sketches, and Alan decides to promote
05:50him as a comic book artist.
05:52Jeff meets with Alan to show him more sketches, which Alan really likes, and he tells Jeff
05:57that he needs more of this kind of work.
05:59That evening, while Jeff is busy with his work, Jenny is seen sketching dark figures
06:04as well.
06:05Later that night, Jenny wakes up to knocking sounds, and is horrified to see a demonic
06:10figure approaching her.
06:11She screams in terror, begging Jeff not to let it get her.
06:15Jeff rushes to her and takes her away with him.
06:18While they are sleeping in Jeff's room, the demonic figure approaches them again, and
06:22they both suddenly wake up, startled by the shared experience.
06:26The next day, Jeff sets up a camera in Jenny's room, and asks her why she thinks there is
06:31a monster in there and why it's scary.
06:34Jenny responds that monsters are scary.
06:36Jeff points to the grizzly kin and says they are pretty scary, but they don't scare her.
06:41Jenny explains that they are her friends.
06:44Jeff then tells her to try to make the monster her friend, and reassures her that it's her
06:48room, so if she wants the monster to leave, she just needs to tell it to scram.
06:54Later, Jeff asks Jenny to take a bath, but she responds that mommy told her she doesn't
06:59have to take baths in the mornings anymore.
07:02Shocked, Jeff takes her drawing book and finds the dark figure sketched in it.
07:06He asks her where she saw this, and she replies that she saw it in her room.
07:11Later, while at the office, Jeff searches for information about imaginary friends on
07:15the internet, and finds numerous articles on the topic.
07:19Just then, Alan interrupts him.
07:21Jeff asks Alan if he really believes in all the ghost stuff.
07:25Alan confirms that he does, and shares a personal story.
07:29He explains that a few years ago, he spent a month in the woods.
07:33He would have tea with his granny in the morning, and then it was just him and the wolves.
07:37Confused, Jeff asks what this has to do with ghosts, to which Alan reveals that his granny
07:43died when he was 6 years old.
07:45Jeff asks, so that's kind of like their story, to which Alan agrees, describing it as an
07:51angry soul trapped in this world, unable to move on.
07:55Jeff asks what the entity wants, to which Alan explains that it's about the intense
07:59frustration of being trapped between worlds.
08:02Jeff further questions if the entity only wants to cause harm, or if it could also have
08:08positive intentions.
08:10Alan replies that there's no definitive rulebook for spirits, but if a spirit remains trapped
08:14for long enough, it can become dangerous.
08:17Alan tells Jeff that he has seen more than just his granny in the woods, and asks if
08:22Jeff has experienced anything similar.
08:24Just then, Corey interrupts and informs Jeff that an older, wealthy-looking man came by,
08:30asking various questions about him.
08:32Jeff goes outside and confronts Paul, firmly telling him not to come to his workplace.
08:37Paul responds by belittling Jeff's job as a coloring bookmaker, and suggests that Jenny
08:42would be better off in Westchester, where there are lovely schools.
08:46He asserts that he is taking his granddaughter.
08:49Jeff tells him he can't have her, to which Paul responds that there were no signs the
08:54car that hit Maggie slowed down, suggesting her death was not an accident.
08:58He declares that he is investigating the matter, and will find out who killed her.
09:03Later, Samantha suddenly kisses Jeff, but he pulls away, saying he thinks she got the
09:09wrong idea.
09:10Embarrassed, Samantha apologizes, and just then, Jenny interrupts, saying it's story
09:15time.
09:16That night, while Jeff is working, he notices Jenny talking to a dark figure, who suddenly
09:21looks at him.
09:22Alarmed, Jeff rushes to her room, but finds that Jenny is not there.
09:26As he searches for her, a puppet behind him begins to move.
09:30Jeff looks out the window and sees a figure rising.
09:33He notices its reflection in the window glass, and turns to look, finding the figure still
09:38there.
09:39However, when he removes the blanket, he discovers Jenny hidden underneath it.
09:43He tells Jenny that Samantha said she was in the attic today, and asks how she got there
09:48when it was locked.
09:49Jenny replies that her new friend let her in.
09:51Jeff inquires about the friend's name, but Jenny changes the subject, asking where he
09:56thinks mommy is now.
09:57He reassures her that mommy is in heaven.
10:00Jenny then asks if mommy is up there, and also here with them.
10:04To which Jeff explains that mommy is way up there, but also watching over her here.
10:09After their conversation, Jeff leaves, and the puppets can be seen watching him as he
10:14goes.
10:15The next day, on his way to the office, the lights in the metro suddenly go off and everyone
10:19except Jeff disappears.
10:21He then sees a demonic figure standing there and begins moving towards it in a trance state.
10:27He approaches the figure and takes off its mask, causing it to attack him, and this jolts
10:32Jeff out of his hallucination.
10:34Later, Alan looks at Jeff's work and tells him it reminds him of a tale he once heard
10:39around a campfire about aboriginal spirits that hang around.
10:43These spirits inhabit a doll or a house and refuse to leave.
10:47Meanwhile, Samantha finds a puppet in Jeff's studio in his house.
10:51She brings it to Jenny's room and keeps it there, and finds the door of the attic open.
10:56She tells Jenny that she is not supposed to be up there, but gets shocked to hear Jenny
11:00telling someone that she will come back so they have to be ready.
11:04As she moves forward, the door shuts on its own, which scares her, but she asks Jenny
11:09to open the door.
11:10The door then opens on its own, and Jenny tells her to come up and play.
11:14Samantha says she doesn't like it up there and asks her to come down, and as Jenny descends
11:19the stairs, Samantha sees the entity standing on the stairs, but when she looks again, it
11:25has disappeared.
11:26Later, when Jeff returns home, Samantha tells him that she felt something strange up in
11:31the attic with Jenny.
11:32She tries to dismiss it, saying it was probably nothing, but her unease is evident.
11:37Jeff locks the attic door and goes to his studio, only to find all his work destroyed.
11:44Shocked and thinking Jenny did it, he goes to her room and confronts her, asking why
11:48she did it, but Jenny insists she didn't.
11:52Jeff tells her that he could lose his job over this, which would mean losing her, to
11:56which Jenny says he doesn't want her anyway, and asks why he signed her over to mommy.
12:02Confused, Jeff asks who told her that, and Jenny replies that mommy did.
12:07The next day, Jeff visits the office and shows Alan his destroyed work, still believing Jenny
12:12did it.
12:13He then shows Alan Jenny's drawing book, explaining that strange things have been happening
12:18at home.
12:19He mentions that he doesn't show Jenny his work, and she claims to have seen something
12:23in her room.
12:24Alan says he and his ex-wife fought a lot when she was alive, and their little girl
12:28was caught between them.
12:30He suggests that this isn't just part of a coping mechanism, but that Jeff's ex-wife
12:35is still around for a reason.
12:37Alan explains that she is in their heads, trying to drive a wedge between them, and
12:41is dangerous because she wants her child.
12:44Jeff argues that she is still a mother, but Alan insists she is a restless soul, twisted
12:50by how she died, and she won't stop.
12:53Alan suggests that he needs to speak to his ex-wife before something very bad happens,
12:58and gives him a Javaska, but warns him to be mindful and do it in a safe space.
13:04When Jeff returns home with Samantha and Jenny, Samantha serves food to Jenny, and Jeff tells
13:09Samantha that he is planning to move upstate and guesses they won't need her as much
13:14anymore.
13:15Samantha responds that she has a life outside of this job, so she'll be fine.
13:19Jeff then asks if she remembers when she said she saw something in the attic and confesses
13:24that he felt it too.
13:25He admits that he doesn't know what's going on, but he feels there's something strange
13:29about the house.
13:31Just then, Jenny begins to choke.
13:33Jeff rushes to help her, realizing she's having an allergic reaction.
13:37He asks Samantha to call 911, and rushes to get an EpiPen from his bag.
13:42He administers the shot, stabilizing Jenny, but suddenly, a chandelier comes loose and
13:48hits Samantha on the head, causing her to fall unconscious.
13:52Later, when the police arrive, an officer tells Jeff that there is suspicion of abuse
13:57in the house.
13:58The officer explains that they saw some marks on Jenny, so his partner is going to ask her
14:03a few questions.
14:04Jeff explains that she was choking, so he gave her the Heimlich maneuver, to which the
14:09officer says if that's the case, then there's nothing to worry about.
14:13Meanwhile, Jenny is seen talking to the entity, recounting what just happened.
14:18Jenny mistakes the entity for her mother, who embraces her and attempts to push her
14:22down.
14:23However, Jenny manages to avoid falling and pleads with her not to do anything harmful.
14:29Later that night, when Samantha wakes up, she is terrified to see the entity sitting
14:33in her room, and before she can call Jeff, the entity covers her mouth with a blanket.
14:39It then comes right on top of her, but eventually releases her.
14:43Meanwhile, Jeff tells Paul that he wants him to take Jenny for the night, believing it
14:47would be good for her to get out of the house.
14:49Just then, Samantha rushes downstairs and tells Jeff they need to leave immediately.
14:54She takes him aside and tells him that she believes Maggie is still here and causing
14:59everything.
15:00Samantha reveals that moments ago, in his bedroom, Maggie was there and attempted to
15:04harm her.
15:05Jeff asks her to calm down, suggesting that she go home and get some sleep.
15:10He then goes to Jenny and tells her that she will stay with Grandpa tonight, because he
15:14needs to sort things out here.
15:16He asks Jenny if her mom is really in this house, to which she replies yes.
15:21That night, he decides to summon Maggie and communicate with her using ayahuasca.
15:26After a while, he encounters the entity and thinking of it as Maggie, implores her to
15:32release Jenny and as the entity disappears, Jeff wakes up and realizes it is morning now.
15:38Later, Jeff tells Paul that he knows he wants the best for Jenny as well, which is why they
15:42are moving upstate to be closer to her grandfather.
15:45He has already made all the arrangements with the school but needs Paul's blessing to sell
15:50the brownstone.
15:51Paul and Jeff reach a compromise and Paul informs him that they have found the car that
15:55hit Maggie and are now searching for the driver.
15:59Later, Paul brings Jenny back to her house, where Samantha also comes with them, because
16:03she has to return the keys.
16:05Meanwhile, Jeff goes to his office and tells Connor that they are moving upstate, but that
16:10he still wants to work for him, but from home.
16:13Only then Alan comes there and he reveals the comics to them, which they all like very much.
16:19On the other hand, Paul received the photo of the driver, which he is shocked to see,
16:24he calls Jeff, but he disconnects the call, prompting Paul to leave him a voicemail to
16:28check his email.
16:30Connor says he believes they need to change the ending, because an evil spirit like this
16:34isn't simply going to disappear because you ask nicely.
16:39It might pretend to leave, but only until it finds another opportunity to pursue its
16:43desires.
16:44Meanwhile, Paul goes upstairs looking for Jenny and receives a call from Jeff, who urgently
16:49asks him to get Jenny out of the house.
16:52However, someone pushes Paul down the stairs.
16:55In Jenny's room, Samantha encounters the entity and gets terrified seeing it.
17:00Jeff arrives home and finds Paul on the stairs, who gestures for him to check his phone.
17:05Jeff is shocked to see a photo of the woman who hit Maggie with her car, revealing it
17:10to be Samantha.
17:11Samantha tells Jeff she did him a favor, saying that Maggie was going to take everything from
17:16him.
17:17Jeff accuses her of trying to poison Jenny, to which Samantha admits she thought Jenny
17:21should be with her mother, but now realizes she was wrong and they could be a better family
17:26together.
17:27As they talk, the entity appears behind Samantha.
17:30Jeff bids farewell to Samantha, and then, the entity grabs her and fatally stabs her
17:35with a piece of glass.
17:37The entity then starts moving toward Jeff, but Jenny commands it to stop, causing the
17:42entity to disappear.
17:44Jeff rushes to the attic and finds Jenny climbing out of the window.
17:47He pleads with her to come down and tells Maggie that Jenny was their child, but she's
17:52his child now.
17:53Maggie moves towards Jeff angrily, but he insists that she cannot take Jenny away.
17:58Jenny interrupts, asking them to stop fighting.
18:01She expresses her desire for both her mommy and daddy, feeling they don't know how to
18:05take care of her.
18:06Jeff approaches Jenny, and as he reaches out, she falls.
18:10Without hesitation, Jeff jumps after her and wraps his arms around her, and the scene fades
18:16out.
18:17When Jeff wakes up, he finds Jenny standing beside him, both of them unharmed.
18:22She asks if mommy is gone now, to which he softly replies yes.
18:27Next, we see Jenny sleeping in her room, when an entity silently enters her room and crawls
18:33towards her, and the movie ends with this ominous scene.
