00:00Where should we go to dinner tonight?
00:03It's the question we all struggle with just about every night,
00:06and for millions, Yelp has the answer.
00:09In fact, nearly 300 million reviews
00:12currently live on the popular app and website,
00:15and they extend well beyond restaurants.
00:18Joining me now to celebrate Yelp's 20th anniversary
00:21and reveal the top business of all time
00:23is Tara Lewis, trend expert at Yelp
00:26and vice president of community expansion.
00:28Good to have you here.
00:29Thank you for having me.
00:30I'm a big user of Yelp.
00:31You determine where I eat a lot of nights on this phone.
00:34That makes me happy to hear.
00:35But beyond food, where should people,
00:37where do people turn the most?
00:39Well, what's amazing, because Yelp is really just a,
00:42covers just about every category you can think of,
00:45whether it's home services, beauty businesses, retail, parks.
00:48That's what's so exciting about some of our lists
00:50that we're going to be talking about today.
00:52It covers such a great range and spectrum
00:54of what makes local cities so eclectic and special.
00:58And it's 287 million, to be specific, reviews on the website.
01:02I'm sure it's counting moment by moment.
01:05So over 287 million reviews.
01:07I wrote mine this morning.
01:09Okay, so again, I talk about restaurants a lot,
01:12but the most popular business was not a restaurant.
01:15In fact, there wasn't one in the top five, which surprises me.
01:18What was the highest, most popular restaurant, though, on your list?
01:21Yeah, so the most popular business listing on Yelp of all time
01:25that we are releasing on this list
01:26is actually right here in New York City,
01:28the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the MET.
01:30It's the largest museum in North America,
01:33the fourth largest museum in the world.
01:35There are over 3,500 reviews written about the museum on Yelp,
01:40over 22,000 photos added to it.
01:43So not only is it a destination for New Yorkers, but also worldwide.
01:47Is it also the most photographed business?
01:49It is not.
01:50It is not, and what is?
01:51Well, our second list that we're releasing
01:53is our most photographed businesses of all time on Yelp,
01:57and the number one is actually Disneyland.
02:00So it's not only the happiest place on Earth, as people might say,
02:04it's also the most photographed business listing on Yelp as well.
02:07I guess I'm not surprised by that.
02:09I have not been to the MET, and we are just miles away from it.
02:12I guess I should change that.
02:14I think this is the opportunity for that.
02:16Okay, so the MET is the most popular business ever on Yelp.
02:19What's number two on the list?
02:20Number two is Balboa Park in San Diego.
02:23It's gorgeous.
02:24It's got botanical gardens.
02:25It's great for family-friendly events.
02:27It's wonderful for photo ops.
02:29It's just very beautiful and scenic,
02:30and people travel from all over to see that as well.
02:32What I love about this list is I have not been there either.
02:35Okay, number three.
02:36Of most photographed businesses?
02:38Of most popular businesses.
02:40Number three, we're hopping around lists.
02:42So number three is the Getty Center in L.A.,
02:45also a museum, also a great place for special events that are taking place, weddings.
02:50It's pretty iconic in nature and sprawling.
02:52It's gorgeous.
02:53Okay, number four is not far from here at all,
02:56and I have been there, and I'm guessing everyone here at the Stock Exchange has been.
02:59The Central Park Conservancy, also a world-class park for people to enjoy.
03:05It's free to access, but also so many reviews have been written for that over the years as well.
03:10Okay, number five?
03:11Number five is the Huntington in California,
03:14also another beautiful, scenic garden museum, eclectic.
03:19As you can see on these most popular lists, we didn't even get to number seven,
03:23which is the first restaurant that we had on the list.
03:25That's why I can't believe that there wasn't a restaurant in the top five.
03:28What is number seven in the top restaurant?
03:30In terms of the top most popular businesses of all time on Yelp,
03:34number seven as a restaurant was Gangnam Asia Barbecue Dining in Vegas.
03:40I have not been there, so that's going to be a lot of people are going to be visiting that once they hear the top review.
03:47So what's the methodology?
03:48How do you determine this list?
03:49Well, in terms of our most popular listings, of course, we have a couple different factors that involve
03:55the volume of ratings, reviews, and photos contributed over time of all time on Yelp,
04:00and then for the most photographed, that has to do with the frequencies of distinct user contributions of photos for that listing.
04:06Okay, did any states stand out on the list?
04:09California really knows how to party, especially on Yelp.
04:14I think 21 of the 40 businesses featured on these two top 20 lists
04:17were in California.
04:18California dominating that list, really interesting.
04:22New York had a great showing as well.
04:23Did we come in close?
04:24I mean, I don't know the stats.
04:26I didn't have the scorecard on it, but top five was looking pretty good.
04:29Statue of Liberty, Central Park, The Met, we do have the number one most popular.
04:33The number one of all time.
04:34Yeah, so I think New York could feel pretty good about this.
04:36Always holding it down.
04:37Shistera Lewis, trend expert at Yelp and vice president of community expansion.
04:41Thanks for being here.
04:42Appreciate it.
04:43Thank you so much.
