00:00The health department is concerned over the rise in dengue cases amid the rainy season.
00:05As of September 6, the Philippines records almost 209,000 dengue cases.
00:09This is 68 percent higher than the documented cases in the same period in 2023.
00:14Health Secretary Ted Herbosa says Central Luzon, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas saw a 40 percent increase in dengue cases.
00:21Some of the local government units in these regions declared a state of calamity as hospitals get swamped with dengue patients.
00:27Except for areas in the three regions that declared a state of calamity, Herbosa says hospitals are not yet overwhelmed with dengue cases.
00:34People can get dengue through infected mosquitoes.
00:37The DOH is calling on the public to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and ensure surroundings are clean.
