00:00we're pushing for at least $17 an hour, and that if we're going to get legislation passed that has
00:06a minimum wage, that legislation actually includes continuous increases so that we don't have to come
00:11back to this fight again in five years when cost of living has gone up, which is really important.
00:17And so what officials can do is they can act, right? There's a lot of power that we have by
00:24being brave, if you're an elected official, and organizing the folks even at the federal level,
00:30but also states also enact minimum wages at the state level, so state assemblies and state
00:35legislatures, to get a minimum wage passed. And it's also important that if you're a legislator
00:42or elected official that you're also engaging corporations and holding them accountable for fair
00:48wages, because it's not just about the jobs that the government can have control over,
00:52it's also about all of these corporations that are making billions on the backs of Black people
00:59and not paying us what we're worth.
