00:00Did you know that Birmingham is one of the UK's most polluted cities?
00:03The national dioxide levels will be five times higher than the World Health Organization limits, exceeding London.
00:09And over 24,000 children in Birmingham have asthma.
00:12We spoke with Olivia from Asthma Plus Lung UK at a local playground about the urgent need for cleaner air for Birmingham's children.
00:19We know that exposure to air pollution can stunt the growth of their lungs.
00:23Their lungs are still developing until they're 18, so any contact with pollution is going to have a long-lasting impact on their lungs.
00:31It's the children who already have lung conditions but we're growing increasingly more concerned for children that may develop lung conditions as a result of this exposure.
00:40Parents at the playground also voiced their concerns about the impact of air pollution on their children.
00:45Air pollution, it's everywhere, isn't it? It's something that you're not going to stop.
00:50But the effects it has on the youngsters with their asthma and the breathing difficulties and everything that comes along with that, it's sad. It's a sad time.
