Astronaut Nicole Stott says folks who are cynical over seeing a billionaire complete the first-ever civilian spacewalk need to cool their jets ... because it's actually to everyone's benefit.

00:00Well, I guess I'd like to say you're looking at somebody
00:02who's not extremely wealthy who has explored space.
00:06And so there are other pathways, too,
00:08like kind of the traditional one.
00:09But I would hope that if the cynics dug a little bit
00:14deeper, if they just didn't look superficially at this,
00:17they would understand how exciting this really is,
00:21how what NASA and the other government agencies
00:24have done to establish these public-private partnerships
00:28to help us build out these capabilities quicker
00:32and in a way that allows us to get off the Earth
00:36for the Earth in, I don't know, a more extensive way,
00:41letting the private industry take on the low-Earth orbit
00:44while NASA and the government agencies
00:47are building up our move back to the moon
00:50and on to Mars and asteroids and all those things
00:53that we should be exploring in our solar system.
00:55And guess what?
00:56Even with that Artemis program, companies like SpaceX
00:59and others are going to be involved with that
01:01because that partnership allows us to do so much more.
01:04So when Jared popped his head out of that Dragon capsule
01:08today, I don't know about you, but that was a goosebump
01:11moment.
01:12That was really and truly like thinking about the future
01:16in a very positive way.
