The National Emergency Services Museum has long celebrated the work of those on the front line, but it is now expanding on this mission even further with a collection of historical stories and personal accounts in their Inspire 999 digital project.

00:00Since the pandemic we've changed how we do absolutely everything here at the museum.
00:08We've got the really cool big red trucks and things but it's the person's story that sort
00:13of stitches it all together. So the Inspire project is about telling that person's story
00:17rather than the vehicles and the equipment that we use and how they use them and how
00:22they're inspiring to either the next generation of our emerging services or anyone that's already
00:26in the service. The project's goal literally is to try and gather the emerging services story
00:37whether it be Fire, Police, Ambulance, Coast Guard or the services that work with them so
00:41like the RNLI, the Air Ambulance. Sort of the goal is to get quite a nice wide variety of people as
00:48well but sort of document their story for all future generations and the museum's exhibitions
00:54is this cool stories that we might not either want to tell now but we'll tell in another 10
00:58years time and we need them stories now sort of preserved ready for that. Same with the people
01:04that would have served vehicles like these at the side of us. If you don't serve it straight
01:07out of service then it wouldn't be here today.
01:19When we launched the project we launched at nine o'clock this morning so the ninth hour of the
01:22ninth day of the ninth month that makes the national 999 day and just giving that sort of
01:27opportunity at least once a year to just say thank you to all the emerging services for everything
01:31that they do because again you'll see them either flying past you on blue lights and sirens or
01:36from an ambulance point of view they will literally see you at birth and death so
01:39it's quite nice to sort of say thank you back to them and again remembering their stories.
