The smallest things can have the biggest impact: biochar has the power to transform the economy. At Novocarbo we re-use the existing to create something new. We process biogenic residues into biochar, thereby capturing carbon and generating climate-neutral heat. We take CO2 from the atmosphere and put it where it is needed – by utilizing its carbon to decarbonize the industry and shape a sustainable future for all of us. Let’s harness the power of biochar together!

00:00The smallest things often make the biggest difference.
00:04Each handful of biochar contains a promise of healthy ecosystems,
00:07fossil-reduced products, regenerative heat and less CO2 in the atmosphere.
00:12At Novocarbo, we believe this natural wonder has the power
00:16to transform the economy and shape a sustainable future.
00:20The mission of Novocarbo is to decarbonize the industry,
00:24to be a partner to the economy, to be a partner to different
00:28hard-to-abate industries, to help them to reach their climate goals.
00:32In everything we do, our primary goal is to transform the economy
00:36to a more sustainable one.
00:38We take CO2 from the atmosphere and put it where it is needed,
00:41by utilizing its carbon.
00:43The funny thing about CO2 is that it's actually not a problem
00:46although we treat it that way.
00:48Carbon is a building block of nature.
00:50Carbon is in 90% of all chemical compounds that we can find.
00:54So we do want that carbon for our daily life and in our daily products.
00:59At Novocarbo, we reuse the existing to create something new.
01:03We process biogenic residues into biochar, thereby capturing carbon
01:07and generating climate-neutral surplus heat.
01:09This is called biochar carbon removal.
01:12The process we use is a smart combination of nature and technology.
01:16So in nature, plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere
01:20and then at the end of their life, they release it back into the atmosphere.
01:25It's a short-term and very fluid carbon cycle.
01:28What we do then with our technology is that we break that cycle.
01:33We build our carbon removal parks worldwide, decentralized,
01:36and always state-of-the-art.
01:38Our upcoming CDR parks can remove about 6,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere,
01:42produce 3,300 tons of biochar,
01:45and generate 15,000 megawatt hours of climate-neutral heat annually.
01:49From Germany to Europe and the world.
01:52Scaling is essential.
01:53If we want to decarbonize the industry and help the economy
01:57to reach the net zero goals, we have to scale.
01:59We believe the only economy that can bring us resilient prosperity
02:03is one that acts within the planetary boundaries.
02:06Our regenerative surplus energy paves the way to net zero.
02:10We provide climate-neutral heat as hot water, warm water,
02:13or process steam for production at high temperatures.
02:17The smallest products can have the biggest impact.
02:20Biochar enhances ecosystems by storing nutrients in water
02:23thanks to its porous structure.
02:25As such, it can be used as a soil conditioner in agriculture,
02:28sponge city concepts, or sustainable landscaping.
02:31In the construction industry, biochar can replace fossil resources
02:35and improve product properties, for example in concrete or in asphalt.
02:38The carbon bound for good is traded as a carbon removal credit,
02:42certified by international registries and third-party verification.
02:46Carbon is the foundation of life on Earth.
02:49Used wisely, it's not a threat,
02:51but a chance for the world to reach its climate targets.
02:54We are at the forefront of a lot of the research applications for biochar
02:59and really enjoy working with universities closely
03:02to just enhance where we can use biochar in the future.
03:05Let's rethink the existing and harness the power of biochar together.
