00:00The PlayStation 5 Pro finally got an official announcement, so why are people not stoked
00:06about it whatsoever?
00:08In a nine-minute presentation on the PlayStation YouTube channel, PS5 architect Mark Cerny
00:12revealed that the new system will feature a better graphics card, advanced ray-tracing
00:17capabilities, and new AI upscaling tech called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, which
00:23makes players' current games look even prettier.
00:26With the new hardware and software upgrades, Sony says the PS5 Pro can run games at Fidelity
00:31Mode quality while maintaining 60 frames per second.
00:35"...we want to give players the graphics that the game creators aspire to, at the high frame
00:39rates that players typically prefer."
00:42That on its own is a pretty nifty prospect, but it might not be the major console selling
00:46point that Sony needs it to be.
00:49Fans don't seem to be overjoyed by this bit of news, especially because it's currently
00:53priced at a whopping $700, not including the stand or the external disk drive.
00:59Judging by the way fans are reacting online, there may not be a ton of people rushing out
01:03to the store when the PS5 Pro comes out on November 7th, 2024.
01:08Some have argued that the tech demo only seems to show an incremental difference between
01:12the PS5 and the PS5 Pro, as opposed to the larger jump from the PS4 to the PS4 Pro.
01:18Others are even comparing the new console to new phone models, and that's not a great
01:22metaphor for Sony.
01:23As one ex-user put it,
01:25"...PS Pro is giving iPhone yearly upgrade where it's not a dramatic difference from
01:29the old product."
01:30To be fair, the changes introduced by the PS5 Pro might be more exciting to fans if
01:35the price of the console wasn't so high.
01:38As some fans have pointed out, that used to be equal to a month's rent.
01:41$700 is pretty steep, and physical game collectors are also put off by the prospect of having
01:47to drop even more money for an external disk drive to play games they already own.
01:52Plus, you have to remember that getting a stand for the console is another extra cost.
01:56On top of these factors, gamers outside of the United States are also noticing that Sony's
02:01done something a little strange with the price of the PS5 Pro across the world.
02:06One ex-user wrote,
02:07"...Why is the PS5 Pro $700 but €800?
02:12That is not how exchange rates work."
02:14And what about new games?
02:15We all knew that Sony's presentation was focused on something technical, but PlayStation fans
02:20were still quietly hoping that the company would slip in a new game announcement.
02:23The fact that it came without one has everyone saying the exact same thing.
02:28"...Disappointed!"
02:31In the aftermath of the announcement, fans are loudly calling out the problems with the
02:35PS5's catalog, which still pales in comparison to that of the PS4 when it was a few years
02:40into its tenure.
02:41When you factor in paying for online play and access to the PlayStation back catalog,
02:46the numbers on the PS5 Pro really start adding up.
02:49The biggest selling point for a console are the exclusives, and currently there are fewer
02:54than two dozen of them on the PS5.
02:56And that's if you include remasters.
02:58In fact, the PS5 roster just got a little smaller because Sony canceled Concord after
03:03it bombed on release.
03:04Other exclusives like Helldivers 2 are bleeding players, and even though something like Astro's
03:09Playroom has gotten fans excited, it's not enough to encourage players to spend nearly
03:14a grand on a new system.
03:16Maybe the PS5 Pro will take off down the line, but right now, the lackluster game library
03:21is going to hold the console back.
