00:00Since the first time I turned on a computer and patiently waited for the modem to dial
00:28out, I have been hooked on technology. Now, the rise of social media, endless new tech
00:35and a blurring of our real and online selves has transformed how we interact. And as we
00:40spend less time with loved ones and more time staring at screens, it's the definition of
00:45intimacy that has become even more ambiguous. So with our appetite for technology showing
00:50no signs of slowing down, how is love and sex faring in today's digital age?
00:57I absolutely believe that machines will be able to evoke and create the same kinds of
01:03experiences that real human beings evoke and create in us. We may seek out digital devices
01:09that are designed perfectly and exactly to meet our every need without any interruption
01:14that might come from a real person. When you tell people that this kind of technology
01:17exists, the first thing they think is, oh wow, can we fuck with it?
01:21You can satisfy any kind of weird kink niche thing that turns you on in VR.
01:28We are inexorably tied to digital technology as part of our evolution now. People who can
01:32succeed and thrive and mate and date in that environment, they're going to be fine. And
01:37people who struggle to mate, date and connect because of the existence of that environment
01:42are going to struggle. This is the evolution of humanity.
01:52Los Angeles. As well as being the heart of Hollywood's entertainment glamour, it's home
02:00to the fastest growing tech community in the world. It's this mix of entertainment with
02:05tech that's put LA at the centre of a major renaissance in one of the world's most anticipated
02:10technologies, virtual reality. A technology which has shown the potential to overhaul
02:16how we interact both socially and intimately.
02:19I had a pretty busy practice, you know, with people with addictive sexual disorders until
02:24the internet came along. And the minute that you've got mail thing showed up, all of a
02:29sudden I had a line out the door and hundreds of clients coming in because it was readily
02:33apparent from the beginning that digital media was going to provide an access to content
02:38and an immediacy to content that hadn't existed before. And what that meant is that some people
02:44who have more emotional vulnerabilities might end up getting stuck in there. And I've been
02:48writing about it and treating that population ever since.
02:52It's a computer generated world where you see and move and feel. Will real life ever be the same?
03:01Since its gimmicky image of the 90s, virtual reality has experienced a comeback. Largely
03:06in response to the arrival of the most advanced VR headset the world has ever seen, Oculus Rift.
03:13The third event in only six months, VRLA is the world's leading virtual reality convention,
03:19where it felt like every tech obsessive in the States had gathered under one roof in
03:23one of Hollywood's biggest film studios.
03:26I'm at the third ever virtual reality convention in L.A. and it's kind of a big deal because
03:30it's the first one since Oculus Rift got bought by Facebook for $2 billion. This part of the
03:35world is where nerds are given all the power because they're actually rewarded for being
03:39amazing nerds with all this knowledge of technology and virtual reality.
03:43Welcome to VRLA 3. It's amazing to have you guys all be here. My name is Cosmo Scharf
03:48and I'm the founder of VRLA. We believe that VR is the medium of the future. Everyone in
03:53this room right now is unique in that we understand the tidal wave that is coming.
04:03That's a nice rug.
04:05For something that was still in development, Oculus Rift was pretty effective at creating
04:09the sensation that I really was falling to my death.
04:13I get like shaky leg syndrome. I feel like a goat walking up.
04:19Turns out VRLA wasn't just a sweaty tech dungeon full of gamer nerds playing with lightsabers.
04:24The VR community did have virtual fellatio fantasies.
04:28It's time to take VR seriously again, especially the pornography. I don't know about you, but
04:33I'm looking forward to a virtual BJ on the Millennium Falcon.
04:40There was all that VR stuff I remember back in the 90s, like virtual reality is coming.
04:45I was one of those people, I got really hyped. I got so excited about it. Like early high
04:48school I thought like, oh my god, it's going to happen. And then sadness. And then now
04:54all of a sudden out of nowhere we're blindsided by this.
04:58How is the porn world taking on virtual reality? Have you noticed a big boom or no?
05:02Different companies sort of approaching the motion capture facilities and people around
05:05town and they're making stuff and we heard, oh there was a shoot. Something's going on.
05:09Oh someone has a VR headset, you put it on and you're like, wait a second, I'm in a hot
05:12tub and there's three women. This is weird.
05:14I think what's particularly kind of bizarre and fascinating about VR porn is that it's
05:19pure fantasy.
05:21There's two arguments. There's an argument that people could get totally lost in the
05:26virtual world. They're having interactive sex with porn star. But then other people
05:31argue that it can be used to connect people, have amazing long distance relationships.
05:35Which side of the fence do you fall on?
05:38I bet both will be true. The good things you can make in VR, the bad things you can make
05:42in VR, you get still more choice than you had before. And so humanity advances. That's
05:48the theory at least.
05:50Oculus Rift's empire was moving at a relentless pace. Having rocked the tech world by announcing
05:54Facebook had bought them for $2 billion, Oculus then announced at Berlin's IFA conference
06:00that they'd teamed up with Samsung, unveiling plans for the first ever VR consumer device.
06:06Virtual reality was leaving the world of technology conventions and entering our homes.
06:12Virtual reality allows us to extend the way we look, we see and we can experience content.
06:18We can be there, wherever there is.
06:20The Rift will be as meaningful to the VR industry as the iPhone was to smartphones in 2007.
06:25Cosmo Schaaf, the 19-year-old genius behind the biggest virtual reality event in the States,
06:30was able to break down the importance of Oculus Rift in layman's terms.
06:36Facebook has something like 1.3 billion users. And that's pretty crazy, right? So they've
06:42connected 1.3 billion people on Earth, right, to each other. They know what they're doing
06:48on Earth, right, to each other. They know and understand that VR is the future of communication
06:54and computing in general. With virtual reality, you'll be able to go inside the Internet.
07:01The Internet will become a place. And Facebook understands that. They bought the future for $2 billion.
07:09We've been looking at adult entertainment and saying if you can create a virtual woman
07:14that can do whatever you want, what is the future of our love lives?
07:20I haven't personally tried any of them, but there are some VR porn videos or something.
07:26Lots of weird stuff. I think there's going to be a lot of really, really strange stuff.
07:32You can satisfy any kind of weird kink niche thing that turns you on in VR.
07:38I don't even want to give any examples.
07:40The inevitable future of VR, like, who knows, 20 years down the road, is the Matrix.
07:47I think that's where we're going. And you'll be able to swap in and out of real life and not real life.
07:57People who are needful or at certain life stages can get caught up in the virtual thinking that it's more real than it is.
08:03And that's because they want it to be. A healthy person is going to know what a healthy relationship is.
08:08A healthy person is going to know what good sexuality is, safe sexuality is.
08:12A healthy person is going to be able to define a casual sexual experience from something meaningful that they want to carry out.
08:18Whether they're doing it in an avatar form, in a second life world,
08:21or they're doing it in some kind of virtual experience or webcamming or whatever it is,
08:25they still realize that's not the same as holding, touching and being next to that person.
08:29And I think that until virtual reality becomes so immersive that we cannot tell the difference,
08:34which I'm not sure we'll see in my lifetime, people will still know the difference between fantasy and reality
08:39and they're going to long for the real thing.
08:45Between VR experiences that could engulf your senses and artificial intelligence that could mirror human emotion,
08:51the possibility for virtual intimacy hung in the balance.
08:55Totally immersive technology was imminent, but uncharted territory.
09:00Today, VR is still in its infancy.
09:03But as computers grow more powerful, the graphics more detailed and the sensations more human,
09:08virtual reality will force us to ask, what is real?
09:12It will be up to our children to find the answer.
09:19I'd learned about some of the hottest innovations in tech and the possibility of virtual blowjobs.
09:24But now I wanted to talk to the people who are working on making that reality come to life.
09:29Just a short drive away lived another multi-billion dollar industry
09:33that was notorious for pushing new technology in LA's San Fernando Valley, otherwise known as Porn Valley.
09:40I'm here in San Fernando Valley, aka Porn Valley, and it's where 80% of the adult industry is within five blocks.
09:47I'm on my way to speak to Sugar DVD.
09:50They're the kind of first company to be developing an app for Oculus Rift.
09:54The porno world's been going crazy over it.
09:56Sugar DVD has been furnishing the world with adult movies since 2002,
10:01earning them the affectionate nickname of the Netflix of porn.
10:05Early champions of Netflix-style streaming, Sugar DVD are now one of the very first porn companies
10:11to go public about their intentions for virtual reality.
10:15So I met up with two of their performers as they're being scanned
10:18to ask how adult entertainment was embracing new technologies.
10:22Have you scanned a lot of girls in bikinis before?
10:24Yeah.
10:25You have?
10:26Yeah.
10:27That's not bad.
10:28We've been working on VR, specifically with the Oculus, for about two years now,
10:33and we're hoping to have something come to market.
10:35We should have a beta in the next couple months, which we're really excited about.
10:38The next step is to make it more immersive and kind of put you in a place
10:42where you can actually interact with the environment and become a player in the environment.
10:46Not just, you know, putting on a headset and, you know, seeing the world around you,
10:51because even in that sense, you're just an observer.
10:54Our goal is to somehow allow you to interact with the environment
10:58and feel like it's not a virtual reality, but it's an actual reality.
11:04A lot of girls have their vaginas closed now.
11:07Or their butts or their mouths or whatever.
11:10I know that there's cam girls that have one.
11:13It's an interactive thing where they fuck themselves
11:17and they can feel what's happening on their fleshlight-type thing.
11:23They'll get a virtual blowjob with a toy, and then they'll be like,
11:28Now that I've showed you how to get your RealTouch device,
11:31let me show you what I use on my end.
11:34It's called the joystick.
11:36A couple of years ago, people were like, what the fuck are you doing?
11:38But is that just a more normal thing?
11:40Nowadays, everything is so virtual.
11:42More people are staying home and doing more things on the computer.
11:45We don't have a lot of people on the phone.
11:47We don't have a lot of people on the phone.
11:49We don't have a lot of people on the phone.
11:51We don't have a lot of people on the phone.
11:53We don't have a lot of people on the phone.
11:55We're doing more things on the computer.
11:57We're not really going out and socializing like we used to.
12:00So sex is now really a lot more on the computer, a lot more on the internet.
12:05I think people just want that customized experience.
12:08It's not like one shoe fits all.
12:10Everybody's different. Everybody has different fantasies.
12:13Are you worried about the advent of virtual reality,
12:16that you could be replaced by a DJ?
12:18No, virtual reality is never going to replace a real person.
12:21I don't think there'll be a substitute for actually having
12:24one of us perform in a movie.
12:26But who knows?
12:30Alex and Nina may not be phased by the idea of competing with virtual women.
12:34All fans find the literal experience of their favorite porn stars.
12:37But the technology was moving fast.
12:45No way.
12:46That's so weird.
12:48Would we one day have virtual cells floating around cyberspace
12:51that we had no control over?
12:53People could do whatever they wanted to.
12:59The LA tech world seemed to have a life of its own.
13:01But there was one adult performer who is becoming a pioneer in her own right
13:05by bypassing Porn Valley Studios
13:07and taking the influx of new technology into her own hands.
13:11I am Ella Darling, and this is pretty fucking cool, right?
13:17This is my first time ever doing Oculus Rift porn,
13:21and it makes me really horny.
13:25With just a couple of GoPro cameras,
13:27Ella Darling had been shooting her own 360 VR porn
13:31in the comfort of her home.
13:33I'm going to turn on both of the cameras.
13:35So since they're linked together,
13:37all we have to do is start recording the master,
13:40and that'll make the slave record as well.
13:43Sound sync.
13:45And then the masturbation commences.
13:49When you tell people that this kind of technology exists,
13:51the first thing they think is,
13:53oh, wow, can we fuck with it?
13:55How did you even get into VR, or what took your interest in it?
13:59So I met these kids on Reddit who are in Baltimore,
14:03and they wanted to shoot virtual reality porn.
14:06And I was like, hey, I do porn, let me help you out with that.
14:09So they flew me out to Baltimore.
14:11I didn't realize this until they picked me up at the train station,
14:13but they were both 20 years old.
14:15These two 20-year-old genius boys,
14:17like one of them's a physicist and one of them's a programmer.
14:20I don't know if you noticed, but it's kind of a nerdy room,
14:22which is why I'm dressed in kind of a nerdy outfit.
14:25So they flew me out to shoot a scene for them,
14:27and I shot, like, a masturbation scene in this kid's dorm room.
14:30It was totally weird science style.
14:32I figure if you're jerking off at the Oculus Rift,
14:35you're probably kind of nerdy too.
14:38How would you feel if someone fully scanned you
14:40and you could be interactive?
14:42They can essentially do whatever they want to you.
14:44It's probably the future, and that's OK with me.
14:49The narcissistic side of me is kind of like,
14:51I would fuck me in that situation.
14:53I want a fucking army. I want to be gangbanged by myself.
14:57You good?
14:58Yeah.
14:59Yeah, I'm just going to keep going until you make me.
15:02OK, what do you think about the argument that we're all fucked to hell
15:06and technology is driving us further apart
15:08and we're staring at our phones
15:09and people are going to get really weird about sex
15:11because they're just stuck in this virtual world?
15:13People have been saying this shit about new media and sex for years.
15:18There's always someone freaking the fuck out about new technology
15:21and how it's going to destroy society, it's going to ruin our children,
15:24it's going to make them be delinquents.
15:26I mean, just, we're fine.
15:28I have faith in humanity that they can watch porn in 3D
15:31and still be functional as a society.
15:37When I was growing up, my parents said that sex, drugs, and rock and roll
15:40was going to ruin my generation.
15:42And guess what drove women able to have sex before marriage
15:46and that rock and roll music we listened to
15:48and the drugs that we enjoyed?
15:50What drove all that was technology.
15:52People my age say, oh my God, look what those kids are doing.
15:55They're playing avatars online, they're having virtual sex,
15:58they're all into their devices and they're not really connecting
16:01and I just think that really doesn't make sense.
16:03I think that's a lot of ageist prejudice focused on young people.
16:09Porn was as tech savvy as ever
16:11and the industry was no longer the preserver of shady guys with ponytails.
16:15Nevertheless, it was now facing new kinds of censorship teething problems.
16:19One adult app for the Google Glass
16:21was banned within only 24 hours of its launch.
16:24Tits and Glass.
16:26You're the My Candy Girl, right?
16:28Yeah.
16:29What are those things on your face?
16:30Oh, this is Google Glass.
16:31You want to try them?
16:32Absolutely.
16:33Creators of the first Google Glass porn parody
16:36with celeb stars James Dean and Andy Sandemas,
16:39it gave a different POV to Google's wearable tech.
16:42Sure.
16:43Okay Glass, record a video.
16:46Okay, great.
16:47You're on.
16:49Double POV.
16:52Tell me more about Tits and Glass.
16:55What we want to do is people who are wearing the Glass
16:57can take erotic photos of each other or whatever they're doing
17:00and then they can send that image or video to another wearer of Glass.
17:03So I'm having sex and I can send it to you,
17:05you can watch it on your Glass itself too.
17:07The fun part of it is actually sitting there
17:09and watching the porn on the Glass itself.
17:11And you'd be surprised at how clear the resolution is.
17:16Can you see people using it seriously when they're having sex?
17:20Just being like, we're both going to wear Google Glass
17:22and we're both going to record each other.
17:24I can see people being totally curious about it and trying it.
17:27Yeah, for sure.
17:28I mean, we already, we in general already,
17:32people use cameras at home for sex videos.
17:34So yeah, I can totally see people using it.
17:36The funny thing is you have to be aware and be a performer almost
17:39because everything's shaking.
17:41If you want to do a close-up, you really have to do a close-up.
17:44So you really have to think about it a lot and that's a little bit weird.
17:48When we released the parody video last year,
17:51James Dean's fans, they love him so much.
17:54And we got so many requests from his fans
17:56of releasing a video of just her POV
17:59so that they can imagine themselves with James Dean.
18:01Because it gives you this totally immersive perspective.
18:07Do you want to wear my glass?
18:08Ooh, it's getting hot.
18:11Okay, is it okay, Glass? Is it just...
18:14Oh, oh no, I don't want to send it to anyone.
18:16No, no, no. No, go away, Glass.
18:19Okay, I'm just going to ignore it.
18:24Oh, the definition for cunt just popped up.
18:26Oh, wow. Okay, Glass.
18:28Google cunt.
18:30Oh, me too. Wow.
18:32I mean, technology's a tool.
18:34So you can abuse it or you can use it for good
18:36and for your life and for your relationship.
18:40We're a species in rapid evolution.
18:42And every day our evolution is more tied to technology.
18:45There's just no question about that.
18:47And it's interesting, when I'm away from my spouse for long periods of time,
18:51we used to call each other and that just never worked.
18:53But now we FaceTime and I see how connected we are,
18:58how alive that relationship feels
19:00just because we're looking at each other and talking.
19:03I can't imagine how much better that would be if we could have a virtual hug.
19:06So to say that this is all good or all bad or black or white,
19:10it's none of those things.
19:12If we created it, it's going to be an expression of who we are,
19:15both the good and the bad.
19:17It is a mirror of humanity.
19:19I've learned about virtual reality's resurgence
19:21in the home of the most far out of technologies.
19:24And I've learned, whether we liked it or not,
19:26that the porn world was using tech to overhaul the way we consume
19:30and distribute adult entertainment.
19:33But how could technology step up from porn's solo titillation
19:37to one-on-one intimacy?
19:39The answer to this was in the Netherlands.
19:48The Hague may be Europe's stronghold of criminal justice,
19:51but it's also home to innovations in teledildonics.
19:54Innovations which lived in a guy called Seth's front room,
19:57with the curtains drawn.
20:00Talk me through Friction.
20:02Friction is a software platform we're developing
20:06to enable people to connect physically over distance.
20:11It feels like the act of sex.
20:13I'm thrusting, you're penetrated.
20:15You're pushing back, I'm feeling the resistance.
20:17You're having an intimate experience.
20:23It's a very organic motion compared to a fuck machine, for example.
20:28Is this the kind of thing that would have been used
20:30for, like, shoot-'em-up games?
20:32Exactly. You can buy a handle that's in the shape of a pistol.
20:35Instead of a penis.
20:37Instead of a penis, yeah, which is fitting.
20:39The idea being that when you pull the trigger,
20:41instead of thrusting into a vagina,
20:43it simulates the recoil of the shot.
20:46When it's just kind of pumping against air,
20:49you can hear a clickety-clack.
20:51Oh, shit.
20:53But when you're actually interacting with people,
20:56there's no sound. There's no sound at all.
20:58Yeah.
21:00With the Oculus Rift, you can imagine interacting with avatars.
21:04Your mind's going to be tricked on some level
21:06that's going to be really novel and exciting.
21:08I can imagine a future where, especially in online dating,
21:12you would expect to fuck teleboldonically
21:15before you fuck in person.
21:17Yeah, so it'd just be rude not to.
21:19You'd be wasting your time, right?
21:21Because you want to see their style,
21:23you want to see if it's compatible,
21:25and I think a lot of people in online dating
21:27already have cybersex before they meet,
21:29and I think this is just an escalation of that.
21:33I was impressed at Seth's vision for futuristic dicks,
21:36but not convinced that the same technology
21:38developed for shoot-'em-up games
21:40could be applied to teledildonics.
21:43However, away from Seth's DIY project,
21:46there was another company named Kiru,
21:48based in Amsterdam's business district,
21:50who claimed they were connecting people over the internet
21:52more intimately than ever before.
21:55I'm here in Amsterdam, sex capital of Europe,
21:57and I'm about to meet Kiru,
21:59the guys behind this consumer teledildonic technology.
22:02And what sets them apart is they're not from a world
22:04of VR porn or gaming.
22:06They're strictly about digital sex,
22:08so fucking for long-distance relationships
22:10through your laptop with an electronic dildo.
22:12It's that kind of Dutch openness
22:14that's possibly going to help them
22:16change the world of digital sex forever.
22:19The curiosity drove us.
22:21Boundless.
22:23We connected.
22:27She initiated.
22:32Ah, the talks.
22:34The passion.
22:36The fun.
22:39The long talks.
22:41A lot of the people we've been talking to
22:43are from a kind of gaming background,
22:45but you are the first guys
22:47that are just totally transparent
22:49that this is improving people's sex lives,
22:51improving long-distance relationships.
22:53Is that what has set you apart?
22:55Yeah, I think so.
22:57We really wanted to solve a problem.
22:59We started from, how can we create
23:01the real feeling over the internet?
23:04And I think we really, really made something really nice,
23:07a really nice feeling.
23:09Of course, we tried it, so it's really nice.
23:11Is it apt that the technology like this
23:13is being pushed in Amsterdam?
23:15Because everyone else we've spoken to
23:17is still kind of awkward.
23:19You guys are just straight to the point.
23:21We said, let's just take it out of the porn
23:24and just see it as a toy, an adult toy.
23:27You can put it on the metal piece, you know?
23:30As a speaker or something.
23:32Yeah, as a speaker, you know, yeah.
23:34And how is it that you guys are so open
23:37and so transparent because...
23:39We're from Amsterdam.
23:41I think that's at the core of it.
23:43So is it something bad? No.
23:45A lot of toys are obviously for solo use,
23:48but then the interactive toys like V-Stroker, Fleshlight,
23:51that was geared towards men,
23:53but this is definitely for the relationship.
23:56Yeah, people are waiting for a toy like this.
23:59There is more distance in the world
24:01because of all the technology.
24:03I think that is where we are going.
24:05You want to see it working?
24:07Yes.
24:09Finger in. Two fingers.
24:11Yeah.
24:15That's so weird!
24:17That's crazy!
24:19Is it?
24:21That's so weird!
24:24Can I try the other end?
24:26So what do I do?
24:28Yeah.
24:32Okay. Oh, yeah.
24:34Oh, give it.
24:37Faster, faster.
24:39Now I feel very British.
24:43It's the first toy that's simulating
24:45real penetrative sex
24:47and not just squeezing,
24:49squeezing, vibrating.
24:51That's so true.
24:53You've gone far and beyond.
24:55That's so true, yeah.
24:57Okay. God, I feel I'm going red.
25:01I think the jury's out on what will happen
25:03when we truly have virtual sexuality,
25:05when we can really see, feel, hear,
25:07touch and smell that person
25:09from thousands of miles away
25:11because we just don't have that experience.
25:13I mean, imagine having explained
25:15Facebook to someone 20 years ago.
25:17No one really would have been able
25:19to quite grasp the enormity
25:21of what's happened.
25:23So it's really hard to say
25:25what will it mean when we have
25:27a virtual relationship,
25:29a virtual sexual experience
25:31that feels as real as the real thing.
25:33It's, I think, beyond our grasp at the moment.
25:35Even though I'd spent the afternoon
25:37with my hand deep in a robotic vagina,
25:39Kiri's vision for the future of sex
25:41felt polished and confident.
25:43So why was I so flustered?
25:45And was Kiri a concept
25:47the average person could embrace?
25:49The only way to find out
25:51was to tackle the awkwardness head on
25:53and put the concepts into practice.
26:01So I've been to LA and I've learnt
26:03about all things Oculus.
26:05I've been to Amsterdam and we've learnt
26:07from these very open Dutch guys
26:09about Teledildonics.
26:11But the two have never been paired before.
26:13So I've got some very willing guinea pigs
26:15to road test the pairing
26:17and see if it actually does work
26:19and if it is the future of our sex lives.
26:21Does it count as actual sex?
26:23Are we going to get to a point
26:25where this is normal?
26:27You're here today to road test the Kiri product.
26:29How are you feeling?
26:31I'm very optimistic about it.
26:33Do you think it's something you can get into if it's good?
26:35Hopefully. I want to.
26:37I want it to work.
26:39But I don't know, I guess we're just going to
26:41have to test it out.
26:43So do you think if a girlfriend suggested this to you
26:45would you be like,
26:47that's a bit weird, or would you be up for it?
26:49I'd definitely be up for it.
26:51Yeah, definitely.
26:53I'm very much a person that's grown up
26:55with iPhones, with apps
26:57that have allowed that ability.
26:59How do we know any different?
27:03I was sat in a pub on the park the other day
27:05and there was a hot guy about two metres away from me
27:07and he was on Tinder with his friends
27:09and rather than going over to him and saying
27:11something like, hi, you're on Tinder, so am I,
27:13I set my distance down to one kilometre
27:15and went through trying to find him.
27:17Wow, so you're totally tech savvy
27:19when it comes to love and sex.
27:21Yeah.
27:23The quest to find people to bang digitally wasn't easy
27:25but I managed to find two kinky strangers
27:27that were down to make love
27:29before they'd even met in real life,
27:31over Wi-Fi and in separate rooms.
27:33Hi. How's it going?
27:35Alright.
27:39This is really just rubbery.
27:41Yeah, yeah, that's working.
27:43It is?
27:45Wait, wait.
27:47Yeah.
27:51Fuck.
27:53So how do you want this to work?
27:55Lube up my dick.
27:59Right.
28:01Right.
28:03OK. Yep.
28:05Got it.
28:09This is so weird.
28:11This is going to be
28:13really, really weird.
28:15Like, does the oculus work?
28:17Because I'm just not going to be able to get it up.
28:19For even more stimulation
28:21and to save Oli having to eyeball a camera crew
28:23as he literally entered the future,
28:25we paired the Keir experience
28:27with an Oculus Rift headset.
28:29OK, well, I'm just going to start having a wank
28:31and then I'm just going to
28:33put it in the robot.
28:53So noisy.
28:59Fuck.
29:11Fuck, it's pretty good.
29:13Shit.
29:19It doesn't feel like
29:21sex and it doesn't feel like
29:23wanking either.
29:25It's just, it's like totally different.
29:27It's less effort than wanking.
29:31Is there a way to make this go faster?
29:35It's lagging.
29:37Wait.
29:39Oh, no.
29:43Wait, why has it stopped?
29:45Oh, no.
29:47Sorry.
29:49It's gone.
29:51It just says input HDMI.
29:53The technicalities of fucking
29:55future porn.
29:57Fuck.
30:01Shit.
30:03It's weird.
30:05It's halfway in between actually
30:07having sex with someone
30:09and just having a wank
30:11in this weird virtual
30:13space in between.
30:15It's really strange.
30:17Really strange.
30:19This product, would you consider
30:21it real sex?
30:23Does it count?
30:25No.
30:27How is that real sex?
30:29It's not even touching anything
30:31or entering anything.
30:33So say if you're in a long distance
30:35relationship but then you found out
30:37your partner had done this
30:39with another woman, would you be
30:41pissed?
30:43I would be pissed.
30:45Do I see myself
30:47falling in love with an online
30:49virtual girlfriend?
30:51No.
30:53No, I don't.
30:55We haven't even shaken hands yet.
30:57Sort of wanked you off.
31:01From virtual companions
31:03to truly cyber sex,
31:05it's clear every single facet
31:07of our love lives is on the cusp
31:09of going fully digital.
31:11It's just a question of when.
31:15Rather than judging
31:17any of this,
31:19I think the most important thing
31:21is to observe with curiosity.
31:23Wow, look how this is affecting
31:25those people. Look at what this is
31:27doing for those people.
31:29I understand the culture wants to look at new things
31:31and say, oh my god, what's that going to do?
31:33Because fear sells.
31:35But the reality is that we are creating far more good
31:37in our relationship with technology
31:39and in the relationships that are going on
31:41within technology than we were ever able
31:43to look for.
31:45I'm absolutely certain that there are people
31:47out there who are going to fall in love with
31:49the virtual people that we're going to create
31:51because some people
31:53really don't like and struggle
31:55with the otherness of other people.
31:57They just want an object
31:59who's going to respond to them in the ways
32:01that they need. And those people are going to
32:03gravitate toward a machine that can be
32:05dialed in to be exactly that
32:07mirror of what they want and need without
32:09them ever having to deal with the struggle
32:11of being in relationship with a real person
32:13who may not always have the mood you want
32:15or be in the place that you want.
32:17I'm sure that's going to happen.
32:19But is that what everyone's going to want?
32:21No effing way.
32:41I
32:43I
32:45I
32:47I
