00:00The rising number of teenage fathers in the country is a disturbing trend.
00:04The situation highlights the urgent need for open discussions and effective support measures
00:10to help these young people overcome their challenges.
00:13This and more in tonight's National News Roundup by Floyd Brenz.
00:20The Department of Transportation or DOTR is promoting green and sustainable energy transport
00:26solutions to combat climate change and support the shift to renewable energy.
00:32Key initiatives include the Public Transport Modernization Program or PTMP, the Active
00:37Transport Program and partnerships with local government units for low-carbon urban transport.
00:45The DOTR is also advancing electric trains, sustainable aviation fuel, hybrid ferries
00:51and solar panels for airport terminals.
00:54The Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act aims to increase EV use and reduce fuel
00:59dependency.
01:00The DOTR is exploring incentives for transport cooperatives to adopt EVs working towards
01:06a greener public transport system.
01:10The number of teenage fathers in the Philippines is rising alarmingly with over 5,000 males
01:15aged 10 to 17 in 2018 and more than 8,000 in 2019.
01:21According to Mylene Marisol Quiray, Acting Division Chief at the Commission on Population,
01:26Quiray attributed this increase to young males' exposure to pornography through social media
01:32and a lack of open discussions about sex with parents.
01:36This trend is concerning as young men are expected to support their families economically.
01:41The pending Adolescence Pregnancy Bill in the Senate aims to address these issues.
01:47So, our tip to the Commission, it really should start as early as we can and as simple as
01:56we can.
01:57This is what I always mention in our interviews about this topic, just teaching them about
02:03good touch, bad touch.
02:05It's a sexuality education because at least our youth will not be abused.
02:11They know that if there is a touch that is not right, we need to teach them to protect
02:17themselves, protective behavior for them.
02:20Floyd Brens from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
