00:00The authorities closed a battery warehouse in Barangay Manresa, Quezon City.
00:06Almost P94 million pesos were deposited here,
00:09the battery's value is not even a dime.
00:13This is what Clayzel Pardilla reported.
00:15In the second floor of this warehouse in Barangay Manresa, Quezon City,
00:21the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Bureau of Investigation
00:26have deposited the batteries of these vehicles.
00:29There are more than 21,000 pieces of batteries
00:32that are worth almost P64 million pesos.
00:35The operation was suspended after the authorities received a complaint
00:40about the sale or the price drop, but the batteries are not legitimate.
00:45Surveillance, our NBINCR agents investigated
00:50and we had a test buy
00:53in their office in Binondo
00:57and here in their warehouse, this is what we saw.
01:01The unregistered batteries that came here and were sold to the public
01:09were stolen from our people.
01:11According to DTI, thousands of batteries
01:15that were impacted in this warehouse are dangerous
01:17because it does not have an import commodity clearance
01:20and product safety mark.
01:22This is proven to be against the quality and safety standards of the agency.
01:28Uncertified and presumably unsafe,
01:31it is not safe to use this type of battery.
01:35It really poses danger.
01:37It is very dangerous, dangerous to safety, to life,
01:41and even to property.
01:44Not only the motorist, his passenger,
01:46but everyone who uses our land.
01:49Two people were arrested in the warehouse.
01:52The owner of the warehouse is now being charged
01:54with violating the Product Standards and Consumer Act
01:57that includes prison and fine.
01:58The warehouse was initiated by the closure order
02:00of the Quezon City Local Government.
02:02Meanwhile, the products will be tested
02:06and if the substandard is proven,
02:08it will be dispatched by DTI.
02:10The agency urged the public
02:13not to be fooled by the unbelievable price drop
02:17and to check carefully what they are buying.
