00:00Students intending to study at Australian universities have been advised to avoid submitting
00:07applications at the 11th hour, following Australia's move to limit foreign student intake.
00:14Education consultant James Kahn said Malaysians should plan ahead when it comes to applying
00:19to study in Australian universities, to boost their chances of securing a spot if the ruling
00:25is enforced.
00:27However, he said the Australian government proposal would have minimal impact on Malaysians
00:33as the number of Malaysians studying in Australia has been relatively stable.
00:39Australia's Education Minister Jason Clare said last month that the Australian government
00:44intends to limit the intake of new international students to 270,000 next year.
00:51The limit comes as record levels of migration to Australia has contributed to a spike in
00:57home rental prices.
00:59Another consultant, Teddy Lau, said the proposed cap would require students to submit their
01:03university applications without delay for their applications to be considered in time.
01:10He said those who delay may need to defer their studies or consider applying to less
01:15popular universities.
