00:01There's never been a show that depicted the real, authentic North Shore.
00:05Showing what real world lifeguards actually do.
00:07Go, go, go!
00:08We are telling the story of the ocean safety people in Hawaii.
00:13Which needs to be told.
00:14You guys got this?
00:17To film a show like this, we have the set, but a lot of the time we're on the beach or in the water.
00:21Safety is very important, so all of our cast members had to go through the lifeguard certification process.
00:26We spend the first two and a half weeks doing ocean training together.
00:30Currents are strong today.
00:31Working with the top lifeguards in the world.
00:34Learning the things that are necessary to make us look like authentic lifeguards on the show.
00:38We have, like, the best teachers.
00:41We're the Legion Watermen.
00:43Everybody invented jet ski lifesaving.
00:46We're throwing in people that have never really touched these type of environments.
00:49Exposing them to this new world.
00:52That's what a lifeguard is. That's where we find our happy keys.
00:55I've been around water my whole life.
00:57And I had a pretty harsh awakening.
00:59What's happening?
01:01We did a lot of surfing.
01:03Running in with the board, diving into the water.
01:05How we operate jet skis and ATVs.
01:08I love that stuff when you're on the ski and you've got to flip the ski around.
01:15Showing us how to respect the ocean.
01:17How to let the ocean tell us what is about to happen.
01:20It's as realistic as it's going to get.
01:22I was with an actual EMT just to learn what EMTs do.
01:26They really want an authentic character to be portrayed here on the show.
01:30And if they're working hard, they're asking a lot of good questions.
01:33And we're here just to support them.
01:36Anytime you kind of go through something new or something different or a little bit challenging,
01:40I feel like it kind of creates a brotherhood or a bond.
01:43We needed to come together.
01:44Everybody always will start the day or end the day in a circle.
01:48Talk about the thing that we love the most, what we learned, what we want to work on.
01:51Learning each other's strengths, learning each other's weaknesses, laughing with each other.
01:55That has been very emotional for me. It's brought me to tears a few times.
01:59And it just felt really special and personal.
02:01You pretty much essentially are grabbing a bunch of strangers together to create something beautiful.
02:05And we share a lot of special memories.
02:07Whether they were difficult, whether they were fun,
02:09it really made an easier time to get along with each other.
02:12It was a really good experience for us to be in this together
02:15and learn about what it is to be a lifeguard and how hard it can really be.
02:21Always fall back into your training.
02:23You're going to be a great guide.
