Tantangan Investasi Membangun Ekosistem Baterai Kendaraan Listrik

00:15Hello viewers, how are you today?
00:17Live from the AIDA External Studio in Jakarta
00:19I, Prasetya Wiwo, am back in Market Review
00:22A program that covers Indonesian economic movements
00:25You can watch our live streaming at aidaexternal.com
00:29Without further ado, let's start the Market Review
00:41The government has been trying to build an electric vehicle ecosystem
00:45From upstream to downstream
00:46And one of them is the battery
00:48Meanwhile, PT Industry Battery Indonesia or Indonesia Battery Corporation, IBC
00:53Announced that the need for investment to build an electric vehicle battery ecosystem in the country
00:59Is estimated to reach US$6 billion
01:06President Joko Widodo last July
01:09Has inaugurated a battery and electric vehicle ecosystem in South Korea
01:12In Indonesia in Karawang, West Java
01:15Which is called the first and largest battery cell factory in Southeast Asia
01:21This step is a proof of the government's commitment
01:23In building an electric vehicle battery ecosystem in the water
01:28Nevertheless, to build an electric vehicle battery ecosystem in Indonesia
01:32It requires a considerable amount of funds and investment
01:35PT Industry Battery Indonesia or Indonesia Battery Corporation, IBC
01:39Announced that at least a budget of up to US$6 billion is needed
01:44The amount of capital investment needed to produce an electric vehicle battery
01:49Which covers infrastructure from upstream to downstream
01:53Indonesia is also cooperating in the energy sector
01:55Especially in the field of critical minerals with African countries
01:59To support the development of an electric vehicle battery ecosystem
02:02Because to produce an electric vehicle battery
02:05Indonesia needs a lot of critical minerals that are not limited to nickel
02:10In addition to nickel, electric vehicle batteries are also made up of
02:13Lithium, cobalt, manganese, aluminum, tin, etc.
02:19And based on the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia
02:22African countries will play the most important role in the global electric vehicle industry
02:26Because it has a critical mineral wealth such as
02:29World's cobalt reserves of 55%
02:3148% manganese
02:3322% graphite, etc.
02:37Jakarta covered by IDX Channel
02:41Yes, Mr. Bayu Sangteng discusses our interesting topic today
02:45The challenge of investment in building an electric vehicle battery ecosystem
02:48We are with Mr. Lizum
02:50Together with Mr. Bayu Dihermawan
02:52He is Vivi, Commercial and Marketing from PT Industri Batere Indonesia
02:57Good morning, Mr. Bayu
02:58Hello, good morning, Mr. Pras
03:00Yes, greetings, sir
03:02Yes, Alhamdulillah, how are you, Mr. Pras?
03:04Good, good news too
03:05Thank you for taking the time
03:07We will update first
03:10What is the latest news from the development effort
03:13Then the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia, Mr. Bayu
03:18Okay, thank you, Mr. Pras
03:19Indeed, if we look at it, the current trend is quite positive
03:24We can see from the market side first
03:28We see until the first semester of 2024
03:31Electric vehicle sales in Indonesia
03:34For electric motorcycles, it reached 39,000 units
03:38This is compared to last year
03:40The first semester for electric motorcycles was only 11,000
03:43While this year it reached 39,000
03:46That's the first
03:48Then the second is from the electric vehicle sector of the four wheels
03:51Sales in the first semester have reached 17,000 units
03:55Compared to last year, the first semester was only 6,000 units
03:59This is also in line with the provision of power supply infrastructure
04:04SPKLU in Indonesia has reached 1,300
04:07Then for SPBKLU itself, it is more than 1,000 units in Indonesia
04:13If we look at it, it is also in line with the industry
04:17From the manufacture of electric vehicles in Indonesia
04:20Where several OEMs have localized their manufacturing facilities in Indonesia
04:26So we can see from the indications
04:29That the growth is very positive in Indonesia
04:33Related to the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia
04:37Where we can see the connection between the movements by the government
04:43Through incentives, socialization, and so on
04:46Then also the awareness of the public related to the use of electric vehicles
04:52So, is the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem
04:56Whether motor or car, it is already in line with the ecosystem
05:00From the battery of the electric vehicle itself, Mr. Bayu?
05:04Okay, Mr. Pras
05:05So if we go back to the beginning
05:09This is in addition to the industry of the manufacture of electric vehicles
05:12Which has begun to develop in Indonesia
05:15The battery industry has also begun to develop in Indonesia
05:18Here we see there are several factories
05:21Related to battery pack manufacturing facilities in Indonesia
05:25It has begun to grow
05:27And also several OEMs like the one we mentioned earlier
05:31It has been supplying domestic supply chains
05:36From the battery pack manufacturing in Indonesia
05:40But on the other hand
05:44Currently, there are two types of batteries in Indonesia
05:49Which are commonly used in electric vehicles
05:51That is lithium ferrophosphate and another one is nickel-based battery
05:56Or we usually call it NFC
05:58And if we inline it further to the north
06:03Of course Indonesia has a very strong value proposition in nickel-based batteries
06:08Maybe like that, Mr. Pras
06:10Okay, interesting
06:11If there are already two types of batteries, LVF and NFC in Indonesia
06:15Then if we talk about the road map for the development of the battery ecosystem
06:19Is there any restriction control already or not?
06:22If there is, then how?
06:25Update or how is it going?
06:27Okay, thank you, Mr. Pras
06:29Indeed, IBC as an investment holding that moves in New Energy Materials
06:34Especially related to the battery ecosystem of electric vehicles
06:38Where we implement integrated project
06:41From upstream to downstream, even to recycling
06:45Like that
06:46Of course, in implementing it, we have a roadmap
06:51Which we pour into the company's RGPP
06:54Where in 2030, our production capacity will reach 45 gigawatts
07:00Of course it's ramping up, starting from 10 gigawatts
07:03Going up to 15 gigawatts, then ramping up
07:06Like that
07:07And indeed, our target in the near future
07:12That's around 2026-2027
07:15That's when our factory will start to be established
07:18Regarding other value chains
07:21Okay, there are 45 gigawatt targets like that
07:24But how do you see it?
07:25With the readiness from upstream to downstream
07:27The readiness to support the target
07:31Okay, this is quite interesting, Mr. Pras
07:33Because what we develop is utilization
07:37So integrated from upstream to downstream
07:39Of course, one value chain and the other will always be related
07:43Okay
07:44And that's what we are committed to
07:46The development of integration from upstream and downstream
07:48Because most of the battery components are available in Indonesia
07:53So this is an Indonesian steel
07:55There are indeed some steel components that are not available in Indonesia
07:59Like lithium or cobalt sulfate
08:01But gradually, we are sure
08:03Issues related to remaining supply chains that are not available in Indonesia
08:07We can provide through long-term supply
08:09Then on-shoring technology and so on
08:13Okay, well, ABC mentioned that the need for investment funds
08:16To develop the ecosystem itself is quite large
08:19Around 6 billion US dollars
08:21Can you explain further?
08:22But hold on to Mr. Bayu's answer
08:24We'll leave it for a while
08:25And Mr. Pras, make sure you're still with us
08:31Thank you
08:44Thank you for still joining us in the market review
08:47Next, we will present data related to the types of electric vehicle batteries
08:52Used by the people around the world
08:55First, there is a nickel metal hydride battery
08:58Then there is a lead acid battery
09:01Then there is a solid-state battery
09:03Then there is a nickel-cadmium battery
09:05There is also an ultra-capacitor battery
09:08And there is also a lithium-ion battery
09:10This is used quite a lot in Indonesia
09:14And let's see
09:15There are 10 electric cars sold in July 2024
09:19This is data from Gaikindo
09:20There is BYD sale
09:22Up to 1,290 units have been sold
09:26Then there is Wuling Cloud EV
09:28There is a series of Omoda E5
09:30Then there is BYD
09:32MG, Hyundai Kona
09:34Then some of them are still dominated by BYD and Wuling
09:40For the sale of electric cars in July 2024
09:44Next, we see the commitment from Indonesia Battery Corporation ABC
09:48The EV battery industry from Hulu to Hilir
09:51We see the mechanism
09:53First, there is nickel
09:55Then there is lead acid
09:57Then there is battery and component cell
10:00Then there is battery cell
10:02Then there is battery module
10:03Then there is pack
10:04Then there is XEV
10:06This is the type of vehicle used
10:08Then there is ISS
10:09This is also one of the storage media for electricity and infrastructure
10:15And finally, there is a recycling
10:17Which has been done by ABC
10:20We will continue
10:21to discuss with Mr. Bayu Yudi Hermawan
10:24Mr. Bayu, we will continue
10:26From some data that has been reported
10:28Indeed, in Indonesia, LFC and MFC are used for electric vehicles
10:33But you see how
10:35With the current condition
10:37The cost is 6 billion US dollars
10:42It's really that big
10:43And is this enough for the Hulu to Hilir process?
10:49Thank you, Mr. Pras
10:50Indeed, the investment value is fantastic
10:54But we need to dig deeper
10:58So there are several factors that direct the total investment value
11:03As Mr. Pras said earlier
11:06In the infographic
11:09That what is developed by ABC is not only the battery cell factory
11:15But there are also several integrated industries
11:19Developed by ABC
11:21So actually the total investment is
11:25To implement several industries
11:28Hulu to Hilir in an integrated way
11:30That's the first
11:31Then the second is related to the battery capacity
11:35The production capacity
11:39What we are developing at the moment
11:42The capacity is quite large
11:45Even the potential to reach 45 gigawatts
11:49In the future, it is indeed stagic
11:51Starting from 10, 15, then ramping up
11:54Then also from the smelter industry
11:58Up to 300,000 tons per year
12:01And so on
12:03That's the second factor
12:04Then the third factor is technology
12:08As we know
12:10The battery industry uses specific technology
12:15From Hilir to Nisrim, even Hulu
12:19For the management industry, as stated in the infographic
12:23There is indeed a different type of technology
12:27Depending on the type of nickel ore
12:30Some use HVAL, some use RKF, and so on
12:34Then the last one is related to the full cycle
12:39That what we are developing also includes
12:42Recycling the facility of the battery
12:45So to make this industry integrated
12:48Of course we can't ignore the last step
12:52Which is related to recycling
12:54So that the output of the recycling
12:57Will be used again to our mainstream industry
13:00For the management of the break-personnel method
13:03So that the project is really integrated
13:07Maybe those are some of the justifications
13:09Related to the total investment cost
13:12Yes, so the total cost is gradually used
13:16From Hulu to Hilir, including the process
13:18From the raw material to the battery product
13:22Electric vehicles, right, Mr. Bayu?
13:24That's right, it's integrated
13:26So it's not just one specific industry
13:28But a truly integrated industry
13:30Okay, this is interesting
13:31Next, what about the raw material needs?
13:34You mentioned that most of it can be obtained in Indonesia
13:38So how?
13:39Do we have to get it from abroad?
13:42Do we have to import it, or what?
13:44Okay, as we know together
13:46Indonesia has a different proposition
13:49It is absolutely in the nickel
13:52Where we are the number one player in nickel global supply
13:57At least in terms of reserves and capacities
14:00Then in addition to nickel
14:03Indonesia also has several other resources
14:06Which can actually be further hilirized in the future
14:10Such as cobalt, bauxite, manganese, aluminum, etc.
14:15Indeed, if we look at the battery component
14:19The remaining is usually only lithium
14:23Only lithium
14:25Lithium, if we look deeper, is actually in the cobalt sulfate
14:31Several mitigations that we do
14:33Of course, related to long-term uptake
14:36Related to lithium
14:38Then cooperation related to alternative technology
14:41Later in the future
14:44Then of course we also encourage the on-shoring of other manufacturing industries
14:50Other industry related to materials other than nickel
14:54Yes, so ABC has done pioneering
14:57Related to downstreaming from nickel to battery
15:00This also has the potential in the future
15:02For us to do downstreaming of other steel materials in Indonesia
15:06Okay, so ABC is not alone
15:09Cooperate with mining companies
15:11Related to the need for steel materials for electric vehicle batteries
15:15Okay, of course in developing this integrated industry
15:20We are in partnership
15:24And not only from the hoodoo sector
15:26But in terms of the midstream, downstream sector
15:29EV ecosystem, even recycling
15:32Cooperate in its development
15:36So there are indeed several justifications
15:39Why this partnership is needed
15:42The first is related to technology
15:45Then the second is related to the investment itself
15:48Then the third is related to the global market penetration itself
15:53This is what I mean
15:55Okay, so how with the adoption of technology management
15:58Making electric battery
16:00This is what will impact later
16:02With a fairly sensitive price for the community
16:05We will discuss later in the next segment, Mr. Bayu
16:07We will be back in a moment
16:09We will be right back after the next conversation
16:19Indonesia Battery Corporation
16:27We will continue this interesting discussion
16:30With Mr. Bayu Yudi Hermawan
16:32He is the VP of Commercial and Marketing at IBC
16:35Interesting, if we look at the adoption of technology management
16:39Making electric vehicle batteries by IBC itself
16:43Indonesia Battery Corporation
16:45As far as I remember, this is related later
16:48We know that this price is very sensitive in Indonesia
16:52Especially for electric vehicles, Mr. Bayu
16:55Please
16:56Okay, Mr. Pras
16:58So if we look again from the previous discussion
17:02That Indonesia has a very good value proposition
17:06In the development of battery integration
17:08From raw materials, from Indonesia's economic capabilities
17:12Then from the market itself
17:14What is the remaining?
17:15As Mr. Pras said earlier
17:17There is indeed a technology gap
17:19Related to technology management in Indonesia
17:23Or Indonesia itself
17:26At the moment, we are trying to mitigate those things
17:29Through strategic coordination
17:32Related to the needs of the technology
17:35Because the technology is quite specific
17:37In each of its chains
17:39So we don't just talk about technology
17:43From the battery cell itself
17:45But also technology related to nickel processing
17:48Processing of battery active materials
17:51Precursor method
17:53Until technology related to its recycling facilities
17:56So in this early phase
17:59In order to accelerate the hybridization in Indonesia
18:02We are doing strategic coordination
18:05Then in the future, of course, we will also be involved
18:08Related to technology
18:11As well as technology development in the country
18:13So we do it in a staging way
18:15Maybe like that
18:17So it means collaborating with multinational companies
18:20In building Indonesia's battery control ecosystem
18:23But more on which part?
18:25The technology, then indeed to the distribution and production
18:30Or how? If we look at the cooperation
18:32So the cooperation was in three points
18:38As we said
18:40The first is related to technology adoption
18:43From processing facilities
18:46Then from the end product
18:49Because the end product must be accepted by the global market
18:53Then the second cooperation is related to investment
18:58As we know, this is quite fantastic
19:01So the value of the investment
19:03Of course we need partnership related to the investment
19:06Then the third is related to the global market penetration
19:10So indeed the global partners of this battery control
19:13They also have a captive market globally
19:16So that the products that will be produced later
19:20From the hybridization of Indonesian steel
19:23Can do penetration in the global market
19:28Okay, so Indonesia is not just a market
19:32But can also be a production base
19:34For electric vehicle batteries
19:36Which are then exported and used by electric vehicles
19:39From multinational companies abroad
19:42That's right, Mr. Pras
19:44Okay, so what are the challenges facing IBC
19:48In building the electric vehicle battery ecosystem?
19:52Okay, this is very interesting, Mr. Pras
19:55So because it's related to the integrated industry
19:58The typical industry is also different
20:01So if we look at the upstream to midstream industry
20:04This may be more closely related to the manufacturing industry
20:07What is the name of the material?
20:09Manufacturing, manufacturing of active materials, etc.
20:14Meanwhile, for downstreaming in the battery industry
20:17It is more closely related to the manufacturing industry
20:20So each of the key players has their own challenges
20:24Then in general, what we do now
20:28In addition to being related to several code streams that we mentioned earlier
20:32Related to technology, investment capabilities
20:35Then access to global market penetration
20:38Maybe the other thing we need to say here
20:40Is related to the workforce
20:42Or what is it called?
20:44Human resources capability
20:47Because indeed this battery is an adoption of technology
20:51Which is quite new in Indonesia
20:54So experts in the field of battery
20:59Then active material
21:01This is very needed right now
21:04In the development of the integrated industry in Indonesia
21:07Then the other challenge is related to disruption of alternative technology
21:13Currently there are several types of batteries
21:17Which indeed from the supply chain side
21:20Currently not available or not enough in Indonesia
21:26With the challenges faced by IBC
21:29To build an electric vehicle battery ecosystem in Indonesia
21:32How does the government support
21:34In the form of legislation, policies, incentives, etc.
21:38To build the ecosystem
21:40Right now we feel that we are heading in the right direction
21:46Where if we look from the consumer side
21:51There are already several incentives or support from the government
21:54So that the community can adopt electric vehicles more efficiently
21:59That's also from the power supply side
22:02Infrastructure, friends from PLM
22:06Then from the private sector have also started to move
22:09For the provision of power supply facilities
22:12That's from the consumer side
22:14Then from the industry players
22:18Currently there are several supports from the government
22:22Related to incentives, etc.
22:27So that the business players, the manufacturing industry
22:31Have already started to build their factories in Indonesia
22:34That's related to tax exemption
22:37Then there is also the release of some import taxes, etc.
22:42So we feel that we are heading in the right direction
22:48So the support is okay
22:50We just have to wait for the infrastructure
22:53So what benefits can be achieved in Indonesia
22:57If the electric vehicle battery ecosystem is well-organized?
23:04Well, this is the ultimate goal of our investment
23:11In the development of the electric vehicle battery industry
23:14Of course, the main investment is related to reducing emissions
23:19Because the future goals are net zero emissions
23:24In order to reach gold in Indonesia in 2045
23:28Until 2060 later with the target net zero emissions
23:32Of course, the reduction of IBC's CO2
23:36At the end of 2030
23:38We estimate it to reach 9 million tons per annum
23:42The reduction of CO2 emissions
23:44That's the first
23:46The second is related to the GDP impact potential
23:50For the Indonesian government
23:52For the Indonesian nation
23:53Where we see the potential to reach 3 billion
23:58If the integrated industry, including the ecosystem
24:02Grows in Indonesia
24:04There is a multiplier effect
24:06Compared to just exporting the raw materials
24:11If we do downstream more
24:13This multiplier effect is up to 9 times
24:17Then the last one is related to the absorption of labor
24:21Here we estimate for the labor
24:25Like the need for engineering, high-level workforce, etc.
24:29It reaches 2,000 workers
24:32Not including native workers on the field
24:35Then the industries and so on
24:38Finally, this also helps the Indonesian government
24:42To reduce dependence on imported fuel
24:46Where the potential is up to 29 million barrels per year
24:54So the benefits can be realized
24:56It's really amazing
24:57From the revenue side
24:59The potential of the 3 billion barrels is wide open
25:01For the GDP impact
25:04Then the creation of job opportunities
25:06It can be above 2,000
25:07If it was just the skilled workers
25:09Not only that
25:10Our BBM dependence is still quite high
25:13And hopefully it can be realized well
25:16We will wait for the results from IBC
25:18Mr. Bayu, thank you very much
25:20Thank you for your time, sharing, and information
25:22That has been conveyed to the audience today
25:24Congratulations on continuing your activities again
25:26Good health, Mr. Bayu, thank you
25:28Thank you
25:30All right, audience, don't leave your seat
25:33Because in a moment we will be back
25:35Of course with information and other interesting themes
25:37Effectiveness, door opening, import, 7 commodities
