  • last week
First Filipina Ford Supermodel and first-ever Preview cover girl Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez was honored Friday night, September 6, 2024, at the Manila Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom during the annual Preview Ball.

Tweetie, who did a crossover from modeling to acting in 1990, is rarely seen in public gatherings. In 1996, she bid goodbye to her role as Faye Kabisote in "Okay Ka, Fairy Ko" and chose to focus more on starting a family.

Now at 57 years old, the former model-actress is an entrepreneur leading her eponymous company TDLG, with its line of jewelry, accessories, bags, and swimwear.

She and husband Jose Ramon "Mon" Gonzalez have been married for 29 years and were blessed with four kids: Sabina (27), Lorenzo (26), Nicolas (24), and Alfonso (19).

On being honored by Preview with the brand's 2024 Style Icon Award, Tweetie said, "I'm so flattered. First of all, I was shocked, I never knew I would receive such recognition at this stage in my life. Very grateful, very flattered like I said.

"I'm happy to be still part of fashion, very much so, especially with Preview whose birth I witnessed," continued Tweetie who was Preview Magazine's cover girl on its maiden issue back in 1995. (Rommel Llanes)

00:00Hi Bapsters, welcome to Preview Ball 2024. I'm Rachel and tonight we're here with the stunning Miss Sweetie DeLeon.
00:10Hi, hi, hi. Thank you for having me.
00:13I'm so overwhelmed to see you in person because we don't see you a lot in the entertainment position.
00:20Yeah, it seems like a lifetime ago for me.
00:23Before I proceed with my questions, can you describe your look for tonight?
00:28My look, well first of all, this is by Ivar Aceron, a good friend of mine.
00:35And he made a dress for me according to how he sees me as a person, knowing me well.
00:43And this is exactly how I envisioned it and we were aligned in our ideas.
00:49Just clean, comfortable, easy, not complicated at all.
00:56And then how would you describe your usual go-to fashion style?
01:01That's it, I just mentioned it. I put a premium on comfort.
01:06I'd like to have the freedom to move and not to have to worry about it.
01:14I don't want to be a slave of fashion.
01:17I want it to be complementary to who I am as a mother, as a previous model, as a mom.
01:26This is the kind of fashion and aesthetic that works well for me.
01:33I think this would be announced later tonight.
01:37We're not posting this anyway ahead of time.
01:40But I would like to congratulate you for the award that you would be receiving for tonight.
01:45For being a style icon.
01:47I'm so flattered. First of all, I was shocked.
01:52I never knew I would receive such recognition at this stage in my life.
01:59Very grateful, very flattered like I said.
02:03I'm happy to be still part of fashion.
02:14Very much so, especially with Preview.
02:17Whose birth I've witnessed.
02:21You've mentioned earlier that it was ages ago when you've been active in show business.
02:31Do you miss anything from your acting days?
02:36I miss my friends from the industry.
02:39They were so much fun.
02:41I was supposed to try it out for two months but I ended up staying for six years.
02:47So that's how much I enjoyed it.
02:51Everyone I worked with, knowing that I am not a true-blooded actress.
03:00Because I was already working as a full-time model.
03:04I got a lot of support and because of that they became family.
03:08They were friends.
03:09They were there to support me.
03:12Making the atmosphere, the environment a very fun, easy, very comfortable space for me.
03:23Where I thrived.
03:25So I got to enjoy that.
03:27I miss their company.
03:29And now, what are your passion projects?
03:32I have my line.
03:34It's been around for almost 25 years I think.
03:39It started out as a different brand.
03:42It had a different name.
03:44Somewhere along the way I changed it and it's now TDLG.
03:49It's an eponymous brand.
03:52I design and manufacture jewelry, bags.
03:57I have swimsuits and home.
04:01What is the secret that even at any season of your life, you still live your life to the full?
04:09Like you explore a lot of things and you're so good at it.
04:12And being a mother at the same time, my gosh.
04:14Yes, I think I'm very grateful that I still have that passion and the energy to pursue different things.
04:24And to learn and to master it if I could.
04:28If not, at least I've tried it.
04:33It's what keeps me going.
04:35It's what gives me reason to wake up.
04:37Aside from my kids, of course, and my husband.
04:41It gets me excited to try new things.
04:44To learn new skills.
04:46And to be able to express myself creatively in different ways.
04:51Whether it's fashion, or my jewelry, or artworks, or even just gardening.
04:58Thank you so much, Ms. Tweedy.
05:00I'm super starstruck.
05:02Enjoy the night, Ms. Tweedy.
05:04Thank you so much.
05:05Congratulations.
