00:00Okay, you received my instructions in your dressing room?
00:03You received my instructions in your dressing room.
00:05You respect my instructions all the time.
00:07We respect my instructions all the time.
00:08Protect yourself all the time.
00:09We protect ourselves all the time.
00:10Touch love.
00:11Good luck, guys.
00:15As Avery Martin-Duvall turns his back on Jesus Denef,
00:19we'll take a look at them head-to-head here at the tail of the tape.
00:22You see nearly identical in terms of the measurables.
00:27Denef with a little bit of a height advantage here tonight,
00:30but round one underway.
00:33Corey, that's new.
00:34I can't say I've seen that before.
00:35I've seen guys look sideways.
00:36I've seen guys look at the floor, look at the ceiling,
00:39continue limbering up rather than stare somebody down.
00:42This is the first time I've seen a full look at the back of my head.
00:45You see a little more of an edge to the presentation of Avery Martin-Duvall.
00:50You see the dollar bills on his trunks, turning his back to his opponent.
00:54He's showing a little more of his personality here tonight
00:57as he lands a perfect check left hook right on the side of the face of Jesus Denef.
01:02Again, there's a new wrinkle every time we see Avery Martin-Duvall stylistically in the ring
01:08in terms of his ring personality, his identity as a fighter,
01:12but also in terms of the presentation.
01:15And again, that check hook was part of the reason why I thought this style matchup was so intriguing.
01:21Slick, sharp, really tactical counter puncher in Avery Martin-Duvall.
01:27And Denef just likes to come in the front door and start banging.
01:33Here's Martin Duvall, now nicknamed The Future.
01:36That's a nickname that he's borrowed from Stephen Butler,
01:40who was once known as The Future early in his career.
01:43And Martin Duvall said that growing up when he was an amateur,
01:46he looked at that and said, you know, one day they're going to call me The Future.
01:49And when Butler decided to change his nickname to Bang Bang,
01:52it left the door wide open so he could take it.
01:54This is also the thing about nicknames.
01:56You could say one day they are going to call me The Future,
01:58but you don't have to wait for they.
02:00You can just do it yourself, like Avery Martin-Duvall did.
02:03One day they are going to call me The Future because I'm going to call myself The Future.
02:08Right hand a moment ago there from Martin Duvall.
02:12With power in both hands, he is ambidextrous.
02:16You won't see him really switch all that often,
02:19but he certainly has power in that left hook,
02:21as well as the right hand that we saw moments ago.
02:23Ambidextrous and bilingual.
02:25He's from Hawkesbury, Ontario, a little town on the Ottawa River,
02:28about halfway between Ottawa and Montreal.
02:3189% of the population there, Corey, is Franco-Ontarian,
02:35which if you're from outside Canada,
02:37you think of people who speak French in Canada as all French-Canadians.
02:41But if you live here in Canada, you understand there are many different varieties
02:44of French-speaking Canadians, and Martin Duvall is one.
02:48Duvall now stabbing the body with a jab.
02:52Martin Duvall now training with Lance Lundy.
02:55Spent the early portions of his career under Jesse Ross Thompson.
03:00Only had positive things to say about his former fighter over the years.
03:05In particular, he used to say that Martin Duvall had a special vision in the ring,
03:11an ability to see shots coming.
03:14He's leaning into that with the way that he operates,
03:16kind of looking for that perfect opportunity for the check hook.
03:18Yes, and you see it often with the creative fast guys
03:22who like to lead with the left hook,
03:24lead with the straight right or overhand right rather than with the jab.
03:44Yeah, that's good, man.
03:45You want water?
03:48Yo, you are boxing that, but stop with the overs, okay?
03:51No overs, okay?
03:52Stab the body a little bit more.
03:53I need you to do a little bit more of this.
03:57Play with it up and down, okay?
04:01You're boxing very well.
04:02I need more to stab to the body.
04:04Straight to the top.
04:05You know what I'm saying?
04:14Relax, relax.
04:18You continue doing that.
04:21Up and down.
04:32It's round two underway.
04:33Corey, you heard Lance Lundy ask for more stab jabs to the body
04:38from Iggy Martin Duvall.
04:39And if you watched his last fight against Ezequiel Palavec
04:42here in Montreal from back in May,
04:45Martin Duvall made extensive use of that jab to the body,
04:48to the pit of the stomach and to the chest.
04:51Yeah, Lance Lundy wanting more jabs to the body
04:53and wanting for Martin Duvall to show a little bit more up and down movement,
04:59kind of give the Neff some different looks with his upper body.
05:02You saw him do that and open up an opportunity for an uppercut a moment ago.
05:07As understandably, the opening round scored for Martin Duvall
05:10by our colleague, Matt Kassebaum.
05:16It is a testament.
05:18Nice push in there from De Neff.
05:19Now, if De Neff has his way, more of this fight will look just like that.
05:23He'll walk straight in the front door, throwing big overhand rights
05:28and get on the inside and work until Martin Duvall has the time.
05:33There it is again, leaping in.
05:37Best moments of the fight here for Jesus De Neff.
05:41The biggest weekend in the careers of the Fighting De Neffs, obviously.
05:45Jesus here, fighting outside of Argentina for the first time,
05:49fighting on ESPN+.
05:50His brother Claudio, whom we referenced,
05:53he'll be taking on rising Russian star, Keratin Agrabah,
05:56this weekend in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
05:59A big weekend for the Fighting De Neffs.
06:02And De Neffs, too, are a huge deal.
06:04They're from a different hometown.
06:05They're from Canuelas.
06:06But Jesus De Neff has been to the newsroom at the local newspaper.
06:10They invited him down, did an interview with the sports editor,
06:13took a picture wearing some big boxing gloves at the sports editor's desk.
06:16And the other thing about Jesus De Neff is that he was nominated, Corey,
06:20for the FERPO award, which is an award that Argentine sports writers give
06:25to a boxer who stars in a lot of high-action bouts.
06:29For our fans who are old enough, and I hope many of you are old enough
06:32to remember Jim Lansley's monthly boxing show on HBO when he had the gaddy list.
06:38The FERPO award would be the Argentine version of the gaddy list.
06:41I thought you were going to say, for our viewers out there
06:43who watch Louis FERPO, I don't know if any of those exist.
06:47The Mad Bill of the Pampas?
06:49Yeah, right.
06:50I remember him from elementary school, Corey.
06:53Sometimes my joints feel old enough to have watched him fight live,
06:56but that's different.
06:57It's overhand right there from Martin Duvall.
07:00And that one backed De Neff off momentarily.
07:03A beautiful uppercut from Martin Duvall, starting to build momentum
07:06after De Neff started this round with plenty of success.
07:11Martin Duvall just stands in there, eats the right hand,
07:14but lands a better left hook.
07:16That crisp counter left hook.
07:19And again, Corey, here's where you see Martin Duvall
07:21leading with power punches that most people would have to set up
07:25with a jab and maybe throw third or fourth in a combination.
07:29But again, to your point, he sees the openings through these punches
07:32a split second before someone else might, and he lets them go.
07:35Let's go.
07:58That right there, that left hook straight right hand,
08:02that was De Neff's best sequence of the fight.
08:04If he has his way, there would be more sequences like that,
08:07where he just gets to come in the front door,
08:09throwing big punches and forcing Avery Martin Duvall to react to it.
08:13But here's Martin Duvall with a crisp counter left.
08:17Measures him with the left jab, throws a right and a left.
08:22Lens Lundy asking for more level changes from Avery Martin Duvall.
08:35Round three now underway.
08:40Here's Avery Martin Duvall and Jesus De Neff engaging.
08:44Pretty enjoyable fight here thus far,
08:46as De Neff fires over the top of the right hand.
08:49De Neff continuing to live up to the legacy of Louis Firpo,
08:52who, by the way, we should congratulate posthumously
08:55for getting inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this year.
08:58I believe his great niece accepted the award,
09:01so a big moment for the Firpo family.
09:04Congratulations. It's a big deal.
09:06You and I have been to that hall of fame.
09:08It's quite a place.
09:10If you're a real boxing fan, give yourself an excuse to go.
09:14Or just go with no excuse. Just go.
09:21That's basically the approach of Jesus De Neff in the ring.
09:24Just go. You don't need an excuse to try to get to the inside.
09:27He's trying to get there.
09:29Martin tries to beat him with left hooks and uppercuts.
09:31Good head movement there from De Neff to get out of the way.
09:40De Neff, when they interviewed him in his hometown paper
09:42and they asked him about his philosophy towards fighting,
09:45he says, I stand out because I go out there looking for fights.
09:48I don't hold anything back,
09:51which is what he's going to try to do here.
09:53But again, Martin Duvall,
09:55such a sharp counterpuncher and sharp with the leads
09:58to the point we've been making, Corey,
10:00because he sees these openings a little bit in advance,
10:04can blunt a lot of De Neff's offense.
10:08You can see that right hand come over the top from De Neff.
10:10Or that one.
10:11De Neff having some success with that shot.
10:15We're seeing now flashes of the fighter that De Neff tells you that he is.
10:20The really aggressive pressure that he's putting on De Neff.
10:23The really aggressive pressure fighter.
10:27He's been sort of measured the first couple rounds,
10:29but he is at his best when he's coming through.
10:34Nice uppercut from Martin Duvall.
10:37Comes behind it with a right hook.
10:39Excuse me, a left hook. There he looks for it once more.
10:44I mentioned that De Neff, in training with his brother,
10:47had a nice training camp, a high-level training camp.
10:50Someone who's going on the road in a world-caliber type of fight.
10:55Sometimes what matchmakers will prey upon
10:58is that opponents will come in and maybe have suboptimal preparation.
11:02That's not the case with Jesus De Neff here tonight.
11:04No, and if you go on Jesus De Neff's Instagram,
11:06what he will also tell you is that he's working with a nutritionist
11:10for the first time.
11:11So he feels better about how he's been able to train,
11:14how he's been able to prepare,
11:15how he's been able to fuel himself,
11:17and how all of these factors will come together.
11:20And boost his performance.
11:22Landed another right hand a moment ago.
11:25Certainly the most eye-catching shots of the round
11:28have been landed by Jesus De Neff.
11:33Nice step up for Avery Martin Duvall here tonight.
11:36And that might be a Jesus De Neff round, Corey.
11:40Avery Martin Duvall has lost only a handful of rounds
11:43since he had that draw in Mexico in 2020.
11:51Relax, relax, relax.
11:57Yeah, you're really rocking in with that right hand, okay?
11:59I need you to do the step back right hand, okay?
12:10Here's De Neff throwing a jab, just showing the jab,
12:13just to create the opening for the right hand.
12:15There he is again.
12:18This time Martin Duvall with the counter uppercut.
12:22But this was, of the rounds,
12:24this was, of the three previous rounds,
12:26the third was by far the most successful for De Neff.
12:29Really managed to catch Avery Martin Duvall's rhythm
12:34and land punches in spite of this speed disparity
12:37that's really glaring.
12:39And we'll see if he can continue on that,
12:41build on that this round.
12:43You saw the adjustment right there.
12:45Both of these right hands that De Neff offered
12:48in the early going of this round,
12:50both of them fell short.
12:51One of them was countered by a left hook of Martin Duvall.
12:58There's that quick jab.
13:01Martin Duvall, like a lot of fast fighters,
13:05doesn't always jab a lot,
13:07but when he decides he's going to jab,
13:09he makes it very effective.
13:12Even though he can lead with the left hook
13:14right there and can lead with the right hand.
13:18Martin Duvall just missing a left hook to the body there.
13:22Martin Duvall missed some time somewhat recently.
13:27He had a pinched nerve in his shoulder
13:30that he said caused just horrible pain in his neck and shoulders.
13:33And right now he's causing a lot of distress to Jesus De Neff.
13:37You see the blood covering the face of De Neff now
13:40as he's been busted open.
13:42And Martin Duvall starting to open up offensively.
13:45Look at that uppercut from Martin Duvall.
13:48That lean hand uppercut.
13:50And De Neff leaned into it.
13:52You saw his head snap back.
13:53You saw the sweat fly.
13:56De Neff is a really tough guy, but he's holding on here.
13:59He's initiating the clinches.
14:00You're seeing the smile on the face of Martin Duvall,
14:03that knowing look
14:06that perhaps he has broken his opponent here.
14:10He goes back downstairs to the body with a right hand.
14:14Lead uppercut again. Beautiful shot.
14:17The same punch, Corey.
14:22And again, his ability to find a lane and an angle for that punch
14:26is trouble.
14:27And it also, it's such a perfect punch to use
14:31against people who are doing what De Neff is trying to do,
14:34where you shell up, cover up,
14:35but there's a little bit of space in between the gloves.
14:37And Avery Montanduval is able to find it
14:39with the only punch that can really find that opening,
14:41which is the lead uppercut.
14:42Well, and going back to the advice that Martin Duvall's trainer,
14:45as he winds up with another uppercut,
14:47the advice that Lance Lundy gave him
14:49to have more up and down movement,
14:52it also puts you, as the offensive fighter,
14:55in a better position to throw that uppercut
14:57because your body has that momentum to throw it upward.
15:00To see it, to throw it.
15:01But to throw it, especially as the lead punch,
15:03you have to be really fast, which Avery Montanduval is.
15:07It's a loving right hand there from Martin Duvall.
15:14It's the blood.
15:15There he landed it again.
15:17Blood streaming down the face of Jesus De Neff.
15:24Really impressive bounce back round two from Montanduval
15:27because De Neff might have won round three
15:30and might have been looking to build on that here,
15:33and Montanduval just did not let him.
15:37♪
15:55See the De Neff corner working on that cut right now.
15:58Also worried about the nose.
16:00Also worried about the swelling underneath his left eye.
16:05A lot going on in the De Neff corner at the moment.
16:10And here you see the lead overhand right
16:13follows that up with a left hook.
16:16And the only thing De Neff can do there is hold to try to stop.
16:20That's the punch we've been talking about, Corey,
16:22that lead uppercut that Montanduval is able to see
16:27and line up and unload all in a split second.
16:32I was about to say, Corey,
16:34that the damage is starting to accrue on De Neff's face,
16:37but it hasn't really been accruing.
16:39It just sort of showed up all at once.
16:41Yeah, I think that three-punch combination
16:43that we honed in on there on the highlights,
16:45it might have produced all the damage.
16:47It might be what did it.
16:48And that right hand not helping matters for De Neff
16:51as Montanduval landing his power shots
16:54in the opening 12 seconds of the round.
16:59And now you're starting to see a different Jesus De Neff.
17:02He's much less aggressive.
17:04He's trying to pick his spots,
17:07which I can see why he's doing that,
17:09but in terms of winning the fight and making something happen,
17:11that's not the best way for him to do it.
17:14As you pointed out, though, Morgan,
17:16an important moment for Montanduval and his development
17:19to have had that round three,
17:21which I think most people would have felt he lost,
17:24and then come out with his most dominant round
17:26immediately thereafter.
17:27Yeah, well, right, Corey, because in any sport,
17:31we're talking about boxing,
17:32like the thing that sets the good people apart
17:34from the very good people,
17:35is his ability to make adjustments.
17:37And if Avery Montanduval had done the same thing
17:39in round four that he'd been doing in round three,
17:41he would have lost round four as well.
17:42So he made some mid-fight adjustments,
17:45which is what you want a really good fighter
17:47to be able to do.
17:51De Neff is trying to hit anything in the clinch there,
17:55but very little on those punches,
17:58even in the clinch.
17:59You get the sense that De Neff is starting
18:02to fade a little bit, but as I say that,
18:04he throws that right hand with everything he's got.
18:07What did he tell the press in Canuelas, Corey?
18:09He does not leave anything behind.
18:13And so he might be fading.
18:14That's not necessarily going to stop him
18:16from pressing forward.
18:19And again, he realizes he's a much better fighter
18:22moving forward than moving backwards or laterally.
18:25His problem is that moving forward is going to
18:28walk him into Avery Montanduval's offense,
18:31like that opposite hand check hook.
18:35Here's Montanduval switching southpaw
18:37for the first time tonight.
18:38The last time out against Ezequiel Palaversek,
18:42he did it a lot more often.
18:43He was more of a butt-cruncher.
18:46He did it a lot more often.
18:47He was more of a Bud Crawford, that fight.
18:50Here's our first time seeing him southpaw tonight.
18:53It's a beautiful counter left hand
18:55straight down the fight.
18:56Nice shot there from Duval.
18:57And you're right, it's not something he toys with a lot.
19:00I think the Palaversek fight was maybe
19:02a little bit of an outlier.
19:03We hadn't seen it at all to this point in the fight,
19:06but now back to the orthodox dance.
19:12Montanduval certainly having fun in there.
19:16Working his way through that third round.
19:18Eating a couple hard shots from Jesus Denef.
19:21Seemingly learned his lesson.
19:25Again with that lead uppercut.
19:28We enter the final ten seconds of round five.
19:31The pace slowing.
19:34The dominance continuing from Avery Montanduval.
19:47Ooh.
19:48Ooh.
19:49Ooh.
20:02That was fast.
20:03Avery repeats her code.
20:05Some wings you just can't wait to tailgate with.
20:08Excuse me.
20:09You left your head.
20:11We don't make cents.
20:12We make chicken.
20:13Grab that chicken from Popeye's.
20:17Picture this.
20:18It's Labor Day weekend.
20:20How are you spending it?
20:22Chores?
20:23Catching up on some Z's?
20:26Why not spend the holiday saving a lot
20:29by finally getting that piece you love
20:31at a price you'll love even more?
20:39Corey, you heard Lance Lundy in the corner saying
20:40we have three more rounds.
20:41Let it go.
20:42They sound like they're confident
20:45that Avery Montanto-Vall is in good enough shape
20:48to really let his offense go and still sustain it
20:52for the remainder of this eight-round fight.
20:53Particularly if they feel like they have a fading fighter.
20:57Fading in terms of endurance, but not
21:00in terms of his willingness to press the fight.
21:02But that's also what I was going to say.
21:04If he really lets his offense go,
21:05it might not go three more rounds.
21:07Push.
21:09Push, push, push.
21:10See the scorecards from Matt Cassavon.
21:12Just the one round to that round three,
21:14going to Jesus Denef.
21:15Otherwise, dominance from Martin Duvall.
21:20And if you're Jesus Denef, you have
21:21to find a way not to get hit with that lead uppercut.
21:24But if you're Jesus Denef, I don't
21:26know that you're tactician enough to make
21:28that adjustment mid-fight.
21:30You see great defensive fighters get tagged one time
21:32and then never get hit with that shot again.
21:34But Jesus Denef is not that fighter.
21:37Saw between rounds the very pronounced swelling
21:41in the nose of Jesus Denef.
21:42He actually had to take some time off in early 2023
21:46for septum surgery.
21:47Yes.
21:48And said he's been breathing much easier ever since.
21:51Up until tonight, probably.
21:52Because that nose might be broken again.
21:54Stop.
21:56Stop.
21:57Stop.
21:58Stop.
22:01Stop.
22:02Alluded to Martin Duvall's time away from the ring,
22:05in part because of that pinched nerve that was plaguing him.
22:08But he also lost a coach.
22:11He lost a relationship.
22:12A lot of things going on in his personal life.
22:15But he decided that he sort of hit a point where he decided,
22:19listen, I have to deal with all of these things at once
22:22if I want to become the fighter that I envisioned
22:24myself as becoming.
22:26Yeah, and you're seeing it in the ring.
22:28Again, now that he's back in the ring,
22:30a little bit more consistently, he's
22:32dealt with all these outside the ring issues.
22:34And each time we see him, he's adding something to his game.
22:39And this is a bit of a new look from Avery Martin Duvall
22:41that he's moving more.
22:42Even though this is a small ring, he's making it big.
22:45Which I'm sure is not something Jesus Denef expected.
22:51At the end of the six-foot ring, you
22:52expect to be able to fight in close quarters
22:54the whole time, no matter what the other guy's style is.
22:56And here's Avery Martin Duvall moving, dancing,
22:59making this ring big.
23:05Well, it is good to see, too, going back to the new look
23:08of Avery Martin Duvall and, again,
23:10whatever you think of his turning his back
23:11on his opponent in the pre-fight stare down.
23:15This is a fighter who's not that far away, Morgan,
23:17from an emotional low point in his life.
23:19Yes.
23:20And now finding himself with clearly a new, more confident
23:23identity.
23:24Yes.
23:24And this is what you're seeing in the way
23:26that he's fighting.
23:27And two, the turning his back on his opponent in the stare down
23:33is part of a show of confidence.
23:34It's sort of arrogance.
23:36If he was on the road, it would be a heel move.
23:38But again, it's all part of the presentation, the show,
23:43giving fans what they come to see.
23:45Here's Martin Duvall's southpaw stance,
24:06giving Coach Lentz-Lendy what Lentz-Lendy had asked for,
24:09is the step back left hand, in this case.
24:11A few rounds ago, he was asking for the step back right hand.
24:14Here he is with a quick counter, mid flurry.
24:18You can see the frustration on Jesus Danez's face,
24:21because he would like to be able to get a little bit
24:23more of Avery Martin Duvall.
24:45It's two to go in this 135-pound contest
24:49between Avery Martin Duvall and Jesus Danez.
24:54Still remains to be seen, Morgan,
24:56whether Martin Duvall will remain at 135
24:59or whether this is kind of an interim territory for him
25:03to hang out in before going back down to 130.
25:06Yeah, and if you're Avery Martin Duvall,
25:08when you are a boxer, a puncher,
25:13part of figuring out the fight you're going to be
25:16is figuring out which weight class your power
25:19translates to best.
25:20Like at the other end of the spectrum,
25:22we saw it with Claressa Shields last month
25:24against Vanessa La Paz Joanice, in the sense
25:27that Claressa Shields had much more power at heavyweight
25:29than she's ever had at middleweight,
25:31super middleweight, whatever.
25:33And Avery Martin Duvall has to figure out
25:35if the power he is showing at 130
25:37really translates to 135.
25:39And the other consideration, as always,
25:41is where does my speed translate best?
25:43Yes.
25:44It can be tempting to think,
25:46okay, I'm the smaller guy,
25:47I'm going to be faster than these bigger guys,
25:49but the power and your ability to absorb the shots
25:52also a consideration.
25:53Yes, there are a lot of moving parts.
25:59All kinds of variables to this equation
26:02that Martin Duvall is still figuring out.
26:05Martin Duvall getting emphatic instructions
26:07to double up on the jab, and he obeys immediately.
26:15And you hear, and you hear Danev's corner
26:19sort of belatedly urging him to move his head.
26:22They're shouting it to him in Spanish,
26:23but they're saying, you gotta move your head.
26:25This is a nice uppercut from Danev.
26:26He's still, he's not done, Corey.
26:29Uppercuts landing in concert there.
26:31Martin Duvall got there as well.
26:33Nice shot from Danev at the same time.
26:42You're seeing a more relaxed posture
26:45from Martin Duvall right now
26:47as he starts to operate out of the southpaw stance.
26:52You're also seeing a lot less power on each shot.
26:56And I don't know if that's a question of
27:00taking some steam off so he can go the distance,
27:02or if he's doing that by design,
27:06or if he's just figured out that
27:08maybe he won't knock the F out,
27:10so he's not trying so hard for the knockout.
27:12Right, or if that highlight reel knockout is going to come,
27:15it's not going to come because he's gritting his teeth
27:18and trying to force it.
27:25You hear fighters say that all the time, Corey.
27:26I'm not going for the knockout,
27:28but if the knockout comes, I'll take it.
27:30And the knockout's not going to come if I press for it.
27:34Closing moments here of round seven as Martin Duvall.
27:38It's another right hand go.
27:40Another one of those beautiful uppercuts
27:42from Martin Duvall right at the bell.
27:47And hey, there's a man who knows
27:48something about knocking people out.
27:51Artur Beterbiev, seated ringside here,
27:55taking in the action.
27:57Of course, we cannot wait
27:59for that fight against Dimitri Bivol.
28:01We've been waiting for it for years.
28:03They've been circling one another for years,
28:06and we've gotten that date circled on our calendars.
28:19Artur Beterbiev could also tell us, Corey,
28:21a little of what it's like to share the ring
28:24with Ezequiel Maverna,
28:26who is in our co-main event against Imam Hattaya.
28:29They fought in 2016 here in Montreal.
28:32Right, Hattaya and Maderna coming up a little bit later on.
28:36The NABF light heavyweight title on the line in that one.
28:41Effectively what that means is that the winner
28:44will get a boost in the WBC rankings.
28:49Round eight, the eighth and final round.
28:52It's beginning here between Avery Martin Duvall
28:56and Jesus Denef.
28:59Denef has absorbed a lot of punishment in this fight,
29:06but at no point, Morgan, has Denef really seemed
29:08like he was in too much trouble.
29:11There were a couple of scary moments where he thought,
29:13hey, maybe with a little bit more momentum,
29:15Martin Duvall is gonna break him down,
29:17but ultimately Denef has at the very least,
29:21you know, been able to pester Martin Duvall
29:23throughout this fight.
29:24There were a few times in that fourth round,
29:26that bounce back round for Martin Duvall
29:28that Denef seemed a little buzzed,
29:32but buzz and hurt are a little bit different.
29:35And again, credit to Denef because he has regrouped
29:39and he took some big shots in that fourth round,
29:41especially those lead uppercuts.
29:43He's able to, he's been able to get himself back together
29:45and continue to try to press Avery Martin Duvall.
29:51The right hand from Denef is sailing past the face
29:53of Martin Duvall.
29:55Plumbing shots from Martin Duvall in return.
30:02Nice left hook there from Martin Duvall.
30:04You can hear that one.
30:06Now Martin Duvall putting a little bit more sizzle
30:08on these shots.
30:13That left hook a few moments ago, Corey,
30:15might've been the best single shot of this bout,
30:18which is saying a lot because Avery Martin Duvall
30:20has landed quite a few.
30:24Whoop!
30:27And again, credit to Jesus Denef
30:28for standing up to that shot.
30:30Because how many times, Corey, have we seen
30:31like a lead hook uppercut thrown like that
30:34just drop somebody, even in high level boxing?
30:39Well, yeah, that and typically when you land
30:42that kind of look away left hook,
30:44the Danny Garcia shot.
30:46When that lands, usually something happens.
30:49Yes, and when you're able to land that,
30:52it's usually because you're so much faster
30:56than your opponent.
30:57Right, and you've wound up to such a degree
30:59that your gaze goes the other way.
31:01Usually that means you're gonna hurt someone.
31:04And Denef took it, and he's still coming forward.
31:10Counter left hand there from Martin Duvall
31:12as Denef just continues to plow forward
31:16and make Martin Duvall work.
31:23And he's got it.
31:25He's got it.
31:34Final 15 seconds of this contest.
31:36And Jesus Denef had never got the call
31:40to fight outside of Argentina.
31:42Prior to this fight, I suspect Morgan
31:45that he's gonna be getting some calls after this one.
31:48Listen, the FERPA award winner, you better believe,
31:52is here to play for the Ferpa.
31:55And an impressive performance from the 22-year-old
31:59from here in Montreal, Quebec, Avery Martin Duvall.
32:06Starting to put these impressive performances together.
32:11He's passed the injury woes back in the ring
32:13with more regularity.
32:15And that's the thing, Corey, is that he had
32:17that long, long layoff.
32:18I think it was 11 months.
32:19and the key for him, like it is for a lot of people,
32:21is just to be back in it consistently.
32:24Build the rhythm and give yourself a chance
32:27to build on the things you just worked on,
32:29which is the tough thing to do
32:30when you're not in the ring consistently.
32:34Just reading body language,
32:35he and Martin Duvall talking to his promoter,
32:37Camila Estefan, I saw him kind of gesture to his left hand.
32:40Yes.
32:41I don't know if that means that
32:42he perhaps hurt his left hand.
32:44That might also explain why he sort of took his foot
32:46off the gas in those middle rounds.
32:50You see them talking about it right now,
32:52and he's still gesturing to that left hand.
32:54So we will find out.
33:07Flurry there from Martin Duvall,
33:09finishing with the jab.
33:09There's your look away left hook, Corey,
33:11right underneath the jaw.
33:13That punch right there usually puts people
33:15on their backside.
33:16I don't know how Jesus Dundef is still standing.
33:19That punch right there is a showstopper.
33:23And if Martin Duvall was fighting
33:25with an injured left hand,
33:26credit to him for throwing it with that velocity
33:30in the eighth and final round.
33:44Plenty of Martin Duvall fans here in the
33:48back section of the casino.
33:53Another sold out crowd here at the Montreal Casino.
34:04And it looks like we're ready to make this one official.
34:06Let's send it down to the center of the ring.
34:13Ladies and gentlemen, after eight high impact rounds,
34:16we go to the judges' scorecards for the decision.
34:33Ladies and gentlemen, Judge Blouin has it 79-73,
34:37Judge de Carufel has it 80-72,
34:40and Judge Eno has it 80-71.
34:43All for the winner by unanimous decision,
34:46Avery Martin Duvall!
34:54Duvall picks up the victory.
34:56You heard the scorecards.
34:57One judge did indeed find the one round
35:00to give to Jesus Dundef.
35:02So all in all, you know, you do like to see,
35:05even in these one-sided fights, Morgan,
35:07you do like to see them still scored as if they weren't,
35:11you know, scored appropriately.
35:12And giving one round to Dundef was appropriate.
35:14Yeah, and this is not quite a competitive one-sided fight,
35:18but it was a one-sided fight
35:19that still had some competition.
35:21And if you are Avery Martin Duvall,
35:23if you are Lance Lundy, if you're Camila Estefan,
35:26this fight gave you everything you wanted.
35:29Like, Avery Martin Duvall was never in danger of losing,
35:33but he had to work to get what he had.
35:35He didn't have a pushover in front of him.
35:38He did not have a pure tomato can in front of him.
35:40He had to take some punches.
35:41He had to figure out the angles.
