00:34I read a touching article the other day, Rachel,
00:36about an elderly gentleman called Neville Croucher.
00:39He had been a World War II fighter pilot.
00:42He had spent incredibly, actually, 800 hours in the cockpit of his Hurricane.
00:48And 800 hours flying combat in the Second World War in a fighter
00:52was quite something, actually. Not many people made that.
00:55But it had always been his dream to fly a Spitfire.
00:59And, of course, the two great Battle of Britain aircraft in the RAF
01:03were the Hurricane and the Spitfire.
01:05But he always wanted to fly a Spitfire.
01:07At the age of 91, not so very long ago, he happened to be down in Kent
01:11at the Headcorn Airdrome watching Spitfires fly, looking out longingly,
01:16and then somebody came and tapped him on the shoulder and said,
01:19if we've got a surprise for you, we're taking you up.
01:21So, at the age of 91, he flew in a Spitfire and did the loop-the-loop.
01:25Isn't that a wonderful, wonderful story?
01:27So, good on you, Neville.
01:29And it reminded me, actually, because Catherine's beloved father
01:34was a Spitfire pilot in the war.
01:36And when he passed away a few years ago, we thought,
01:38what should we do to mark this?
01:40So we hired a Spitfire to fly over the house and do the victory rolls.
01:46Wonderful. Not a dry eye in the house. It was fantastic.

26:44spare a thought for probably the most famous elephant in the world, jumbo.
26:48And a lot of us know that story.
26:50The word jumbo goes all the way back to Mumbo Jumbo.
26:54And the original Mumbo Jumbo was an African...
26:57It was a masked figure, really, that took part in religious ceremonies
27:01amongst the Mandingo people, and they were in Western Africa.
27:06And over time, it became...
27:08It began to mean a language that was based on superstition,
27:11and hence it was sort of slightly unintelligible,
27:13which is why we talk about Mumbo Jumbo today.
27:15But the first jumbo was a dull-witted, slightly foolish person.
27:19And, of course, it sort of became incredibly famous
27:22and burst onto the scene with the African elephant jumbo,
27:25who was born in the 1860s.
27:27He was four metres tall.
27:29People absolutely flocked to see him.
27:31And with an eye for a good deal and also spectacle,
27:35circus owner P.T. Barnum bought Jumbo
27:38for the equivalent of a quarter of a million dollars,
27:40shipped him to the US,
27:42and basically toured him all across America and beyond.
27:45But very sadly, while being displayed in Canada,
27:48Jumbo was killed. He was hit by a train.
27:51But still, Barnum had an eye for the money,
27:54and he saw a chance to earn even more
27:56by offering people a chance to see a dead elephant.
27:58So he stuffed Jumbo's huge hide, awful, and put him on display,
28:02which, of course, further spread the elephant's fame.
28:04And it secured Jumbo, as a word in our language,
28:07as you would expect, for something large of its kind.
28:10And, of course, it was then made very popular by Dumbo,
28:13the poor Disney elephant.
28:15But Jumbo goes all the way back, originally,
28:17to mumbo jumbo and superstition.
28:19Now, when I eat a jumbo sausage, I'm going to put it in my mouth,
28:22and it's going to taste of dead elephant.
