Scotsman football writer Alan Pattullo in Lisbon previewing Portugal v Scotland in the Nations League.
Transcript
00:00Hello, I'm Alan Botolo, a Scotsman football writer, coming at you from the back of a taxi
00:12in the streets of Lisbon on my way to a Scotland press conference, Estádio da Luz, or as it's
00:19officially known, Estádio Sport Lisboa Benfica.
00:25I am in the back of a taxi but I haven't yet inquired of my driver for some tactical enlightenment
00:37on the current Portugal team. I don't know if you remember the story from 1993, Scotland's
00:43last visit to the stadium, when Richard Gough claimed that Andy Roxburgh had based some
00:51of his tactical workings on a chat he'd had with a Lisbon taxi driver. It's a famous story
00:59in the annals of Scottish football. Anyway, I'm intrigued to hear what Steve Clarke has
01:08to say this evening, obviously a couple of nights after that heartbreaking, slightly
01:14traumatic night against Poland. It seems Scotland could do with some fortune I think
01:20after losing goals in the 10th minute of injury time and 7th minute of injury time in the
01:25last two outings. We'll see what Steve Clarke has to say about his team formation, he'll
01:34probably be wrestling with whether to switch back to a back 5 or stick with a back 4. Obviously
01:41a certain 39-year-old playing for the opponents will be featuring largely in his thinking
01:48regarding that. Obviously there's questions over individual players such as Grant Hanley,
01:54who obviously considered a penalty against Poland and will be wondering what kind of
02:01mental frame of mind he's in after that. But yeah, interesting 24 hours or so ahead.
02:11We're here in Portugal as Scotland look to get back to winning ways, haven't won a competitive
02:17match of course since this time last year against Cyprus. Keep checking Scotsman.com
02:24later tonight, I'll be putting a preview up ahead of the game and obviously we'll be filing
02:32reports from the press conference regarding what Steve Clarke has to say shortly after
02:37he's been in to meet with the reporters. I will speak to you later, probably from the stadium
02:45tomorrow night.
