00:00Over a thousand years ago the Vikings set out in search of new land and what
00:07they would find was a harsh living island full of ice, fire, mystery and
00:13really expensive everything. That island is Iceland. Just about every traveler has
00:20this mystical place on their bucket list and it was finally time for me to check
00:24it off mine. So with the help of local guides reading countless blogs I had
00:30everything I needed to discover the essence of this island. But there was one
00:35last thing I needed and that was a crew of adventurous souls. These are the
00:40people just crazy enough to give up their sleep for the next two weeks as we
00:45expedition alien-like terrains. Take it from me if you can afford it this is
00:50your next trip. Let me show you how to travel Iceland.
01:10I'm gonna show you the most unbelievable seven to ten day itinerary across
01:15Iceland as we go from the southwestern city of Reykjavik all the way to the
01:20northeast and I'll even show you how you can take a ferry to the next country
01:24from here. Day one adventure begins. Our trip starts where yours will too. The
01:31Reykjavik Airport just one hour south from the capital of Reykjavik. Gosh it smells like
01:36sulfur everywhere including my shower. That is Christian but with a K and from
01:43Norway and also joining us my sister Bridget. A trip to Iceland starts the
01:50very moment you walk out from the airport. The earth is cracked and looks
01:54extraterrestrial. 30 minutes from the airport you're deep in the action.
02:03We're just at the start of this trip and it's just like I'm driving on a different
02:07planet. I have not seen landscapes like this. It's a combination of Mordor meets
02:12Rainbow Road. We're trying to get to our first stop 15 minutes out of Reykjavik
02:17and we're already taking like an hour because we're just so mesmerized and
02:21fascinated with all the surroundings.
02:34There is so much life inside this island. I mean it's literally forcing its way
02:39out of the earth. This video will be the best guide you can find on Iceland but
02:43there's one thing I cannot promise and that is pronouncing things right.
02:48Ruby where are we?
02:50Gullver I think.
02:52A little later that evening.
02:58Alright guess what we're doing.
03:00We are here at a spa.
03:04But not just any spa. This is a man-made hot bath but with heat that comes from
03:09under the earth. The geothermal activity in Iceland is through the roof and the
03:13heat was way too good on this particularly windy day. But we signed up
03:17for a seven step ritual. Step one was being here and warm. Step two was leaving
03:22that warmth. All good things must come to an end.
03:26Where are you going?
03:28Where are you going?
03:30I'm coming with you.
03:32I hate cold plunges.
03:34Step three was this stunning oceanfront sauna
03:36followed by the rest of the steps which were basically cold mist shower, body
03:40scrub, steam room and back out you go to catch an epic sunset and end your day
03:45with...
03:47Alright before we leave Reykjavik there's one last thing we had to come try.
03:56Remember earlier when I said that the best way to end the day was an amazing sunset?
04:00I lied.
04:02The best way to end your day is with Icelandic ice cream.
04:06I just got the bill.
04:08Ten dollars each.
04:10That night we slept in Reykjavik.
04:12Or at least we tried.
04:14Sleeping right next to the drunk rabbit on a Friday was a bold move.
04:17But the morning was a fresh start and we took a day to really get to know Reykjavik.
04:22Day two. Exploring Reykjavik.
04:24Now Iceland is known for a lot of things but it's not known for its architecture.
04:29But one exception might just be this building here.
04:33This is one of the crown jewels of Reykjavik.
04:36Welcome to Hallgrímskirkja.
04:39And this right here is a church and it's actually inspired by the nature of Iceland.
04:44Kind of looks like an upside down icicle but it actually looks a lot more like somewhere
04:50that we're going to be taking you very soon.
04:52I'll show you when we take off on the road trip.
04:54Once upon a time this capital city was a small fishing village.
04:57And today, well, it's kind of still a small fishing village.
05:01But let me just say there's some super cool restaurants and some surprisingly amazing food.
05:06But I gotta give you a massive price warning.
05:09It's almost impossible to eat for under 30 US dollars a person.
05:12We have some specials today.
05:14What I see on the menu is puffin and whale and horse and now I'm sad.
05:19I love puffins.
05:21This burger at a pub was awesome.
05:23But I think it was literally 30 bucks.
05:25Seemed kind of cheap compared to the lamb which was 60 US dollars.
05:29Right next door we tried the famous hot dog that everyone on TikTok's been raving about.
05:33And let me just say, don't trust a TikToker.
05:35Literally teenage me playing Xbox made better hot dogs.
05:38Good night Reykjavik. We'll catch you in the morning.
05:41Day 3. Swimming in between tectonic plates.
05:48The road trip begins.
05:55Good morning everybody.
05:57We're starting off this morning with some really crazy activity.
06:01Like you'll never guess. I didn't even know this was a thing.
06:04I'm so excited to be doing it but also not so excited at the same time.
06:09You'll see why.
06:13Here's your undersuit.
06:14Where are we going?
06:15Please put it on.
06:16What are we doing?
06:17You're going to change right now first of all.
06:19Just keep one base layer under this.
06:21Okay.
06:22And then I'll give you the dry suit after.
06:24So don't pee in this?
06:25Neither.
06:26Okay.
06:27Don't pee in either of the suits.
06:28Not recommended.
06:29If you want to buy it then you can pee in it.
06:30Okay.
06:35This is going to be crazy.
06:42I can't believe this.
06:43My lips are already blue.
06:46Wrong hole.
06:49We've all been there before.
06:50Just take it.
06:51Look up.
06:52Look at the sky.
06:54She's born again.
06:56Just avoid any awkward eye contact while I choke you.
07:02You look like a discount superhero.
07:05Ready?
07:06The safe word is Eyjafjallajökull.
07:09What is Eyjafjallajökull?
07:12Eyjafjallajökull.
07:14Reykjavik needs me.
07:24We're about to go snorkel between two tectonic plates in glacier water that is 3 degrees.
07:31So apparently what's going on between these two rocks has been causing natural disasters
07:37and more recently caused 4,000 people to evacuate their homes here in Iceland.
07:42Today we're going to go find out what's going on inside there.
08:00This is Silfra and it's been measured as some of the clearest water on the planet.
08:05But most of all it's an up close and personal way to understand why Iceland is one of the
08:09most beautiful and chaotic places on the planet.
08:13The sliding, colliding and dividing of these plates makes these beautiful alien-like landscapes.
08:18But it's also why the entire island is kind of a danger zone.
08:22Just the other day the pressure and energy stored in these plates allowed magma to fire out
08:26putting an entire neighborhood into mayday.
08:29Everybody fleed their homes and one home sadly got engulfed by the magma.
08:34Volcanoes destroy but they also create and they have created some of the most beautiful scenes here in Iceland.
08:39This thing hasn't missed a beat through all the elements and through all the adventures.
08:43The Insta360 X4 is the latest in 360 technology and this thing is a powerhouse.
08:50I've been shooting 8K 30 frames per second getting this beautiful 360 image
08:56which means I can hit the record button and in the edit decide which way I want the camera shot to face.
09:02Which means I can be way more in the moment, less involved in framing.
09:06And the mobile app is so easy to use so you can do all the editing using your phone.
09:10But most of all it allows me to get so many creative angles and compositions
09:14which complement my usual footage in such a fun way.
09:17The camera body is waterproof, it's just as rugged as these Icelandic landscapes
09:22so it can keep up with you wherever you go.
09:24And I've really enjoyed shooting in the 5.7K at 60 frames per second
09:28which allows me to get that half speed slow motion to really bring you into the moment.
09:33Definitely get yourself an Insta360 X4.
09:35It's going to take your trip and your shots to the next level and it's just linked down below.
09:52I know we're just at the start of Iceland but you're going to have to mark that one on your bucket list.
09:56That was awesome.
09:57Chris it may have been cold out there but our friendship kept me warm the whole way through.
10:01Oh my god, I'm so glad.
10:03You gotta ask for Chris.
10:04So Iceland can be guided, it can be unguided and our goal is to do something in between
10:09where we're basically driving ourselves around but also pairing up with the right tour operators to get the best.
10:14And today Arctic Adventures has shown us one of the most outstanding and funny and awesome experiences I've had in a long time.
10:22But back on the road we get.
10:28So we joined a cult.
10:29No we didn't.
10:30The cult of rye.
10:32We're going to go make bread.
10:33Correction, we're on our way to make some geothermal bread which means it's made the Viking way.
10:38Step one, dig.
10:41Step two.
10:43Step three, take credit for someone else's work.
10:48Step four, bury your bread.
10:51So after 24 hours underground you get some of the best smelling bread you've ever smelled.
10:56It's called rye bread and it's actually from the Danes.
10:59Danes occupied Iceland.
11:01To this day it's still a sore spot apparently.
11:03But they did bring one great thing to Iceland.
11:05It's this beautiful formula of bread with brown sugar and cream and a lot of butter.
11:11And now the best part, let's go eat it.
11:14Step six, eat the food.
11:17I love it.
11:18It is so perfectly soft and moist.
11:20The bread is like dessert bread.
11:22It's so good.
11:23I think it was fun.
11:24It was fun.
11:25Every trip to Iceland is going to have a visit to the Golden Circle.
11:29This is the central road inside the island that brings you to a few very crazy spots.
11:35The four most popular things to see here are Thingvellir National Park, where we swam in the morning,
11:41You don't want to stand too close.
11:46Or do.
11:47He just got soaked by the geyser.
11:49Was that hot water?
11:50No, it was cold.
11:51But I'm going to smell like salt.
11:53From there you got the powerful Gullfoss Waterfall.
11:56It's said a rich Viking had buried much of their treasure under the falls.
12:00So if you're looking for a place to spend the night,
12:02this is the perfect place to do it.
12:05And on your way back, you got Karid Crater.
12:08It's a pretty big hole.
12:09And during this part of our trip, we have stayed here,
12:12at this place called Greenhouse Hotel.
12:14And it's a really nice boutique hotel with breakfast included.
12:18There's a bunch of food options right next door.
12:20And it gets you right in the heart of all the action around here.
12:22Definitely would recommend checking this place out.
12:25Day four.
12:27We're in Karid Crater.
12:29And it gets you right in the heart of all the action around here.
12:31Definitely would recommend checking this place out.
12:34Day four.
12:36The Blue Lagoon.
12:38Today is a fun adventure.
12:40We are on our way to the very famous Blue Lagoon.
12:44But we just stopped on the side of the road again
12:47because we are seeing fresh new hardened lava rocks.
12:53We were just driving and you can just see
12:55where the lava stopped and burnt everything.
12:58You can actually see the way this whole island has been made
13:00over thousands and thousands of years.
13:02Basically the formation of the newest parts of Iceland
13:05happened right here, just in March, two months ago.
13:09How cold is it right now?
13:11It's insane.
13:12And this is summer.
13:13But we chose the right day to warm up.
13:15Alright.
13:16It is time to unload yet again.
13:19We've just checked into our hotel, the Silica Hotel.
13:22What was it that you had to inform me about?
13:24We are located in the seismic activity area.
13:28We are expecting volcanic eruption at any moment.
13:31It could happen somewhere in the area.
13:33In case if it's going to happen, we need to evacuate.
13:36There's going to be an alarm.
13:38Meteor point is going to be right here.
13:40That's so cool.
13:41Erection.
13:42Erection.
13:43Erection.
13:44Yes.
13:45No.
13:46Eruption.
13:47Eruption.
13:53So we just asked how much a taxi would be
13:55to send Christian and Ruby's sister back to a different hotel.
13:59Turns out, because it's a holiday,
14:01today in Iceland it would be 400 US dollars
14:04for a one-hour taxi ride.
14:06You've got to be so careful when you're traveling Iceland
14:09to have your things set up correctly.
14:11Otherwise, you will find yourself having
14:13one of the most expensive trips you could ever imagine.
14:15Wow.
14:16This is pretty cool.
14:17The room, very simple, but also cozy.
14:20But the appeal, it's what you're facing.
14:24These rooms are literally built into the old volcanic land.
14:28It's so crazy getting to be by volcanic lava rocks with moss
14:34and having all this smoke and this moodiness.
14:37Such a cool experience.
14:38Now the Blue Lagoon is maybe one of the world's
14:41most coveted Instagram spots.
14:43I mean, it's literal goals.
14:45On most days.
14:46But today was not that day.
14:48We got this.
14:49We're not going to make it.
14:56Oh my God, please tell me it's hot in there.
14:58Yeah.
15:06We got hit with a literal windstorm the day we arrived.
15:10But the water was still warm and we had fun.
15:13So I probably spent a few hours researching,
15:16reading blogs and getting all the pins,
15:18putting them together in my map.
15:20And I don't want you to have to do that
15:22when I can just share it with you.
15:23Hope it helps.
15:24Take a look at the link down below.
15:25It's all yours.
15:26My gift.
15:27Enjoy it.
15:28After a very beautiful and crazy experience out there.
15:31Welcome to Lava Restaurant.
15:33Lava is basically, it's like having a restaurant
15:36inside of a volcano.
15:38Food arrived in front of the most iconic view.
15:42Yum, yum and yum.
15:46On our way out from Lava,
15:47we took a look at The Retreat,
15:49which is a five-star hotel just connected next door.
15:52Pretty stunning stuff.
15:53But I heard it's around 1800 a night.
15:56Oh, Iceland, you ain't cheap.
15:58If you're coming to Iceland,
15:59you're probably going to be stuck choosing
16:00between Sky and Blue Lagoon.
16:02Personally, I think I enjoyed Sky a little bit more.
16:05The changing area is much nicer
16:07and was a lot cleaner when we went.
16:08But if you want to wake up to your own private lagoon,
16:11then let me show you what Silica had for us.
16:14Day five.
16:16The sunshine after the storm.
16:19Yesterday didn't exactly get the day we were looking for,
16:22but every day is a new day.
16:25And opening the door up onto the lagoon,
16:28not only because of the weather,
16:29but also because this area here is exclusive for Silica.
16:34It is a very intimate experience.
16:36And I know it comes at a cost, $700 a night,
16:39but an amazing place.
16:41So you might be thinking to yourself,
16:42Christian, I've never seen this water out in the wild.
16:44What the heck's going on here?
16:45There's a power plant right over there.
16:47Iceland's one of the most green countries
16:49in terms of their electricity production
16:51because they get so much of it from geothermal activity.
16:54And because it comes from that hot, hot underground,
16:57you're left with this insane experience.
17:00It's been a nice little stop here on the moon,
17:02but I got something else to show you.
17:05So this morning, we're doing something pretty crazy.
17:09And we might be just doing it a few minutes too early
17:12because today there has been 19 earthquakes
17:16in the last four hours, very small ones.
17:18We haven't felt them, but they're going on.
17:20Tons of seismic activity,
17:22and there has never been more pressure buildup
17:24recorded apparently in one of the current areas
17:27which we're about to fly over top of.
17:29We might, fingers crossed,
17:31We might, fingers crossed,
17:33literally have a volcanic eruption mid-flight.
17:36One just came through.
17:37No, I'm serious. There's black smoke coming up.
17:39Guys, there's an eruption happening right now.
17:41Black smoke. This was all clear a second ago.
17:44That wasn't black a second ago.
17:45This wasn't black.
17:47Are you kidding me?
17:49As I was saying.
17:50Let's get the chopper ready.
18:02From the moment we took off,
18:04there was so much to see.
18:06From dried up lava stone
18:08to this tiny little island with a red house on it.
18:11Which, by the way, that's the president's house.
18:13As we made our way further south,
18:15we passed by the Blue Hole.
18:17This is the city of Grendevik,
18:19and it's the latest casualty
18:21in the Icelandic volcanic eruptions.
18:23Cracks forming in the roads,
18:25a home that was engulfed in magma.
18:27Literally only one went up in flames.
18:29That's kind of bad luck.
18:31But this is Iceland,
18:33and we flew over these incredible craters.
18:35This extremely beautiful one
18:37was actually the center of action in 2021
18:40when there was a super active volcano eruption here.
18:43This landscape is one of a kind,
18:45and as we made our way back,
18:47we were greeted by a circular rainbow.
18:49I didn't know this existed.
18:51So what happened to the volcanic eruption
18:53I saw on the live camera?
18:55Well, it turns out,
18:57clouds passing over a 360p live stream
18:59look a lot like a volcanic eruption.
19:01That was a false alarm.
19:03But just five days later,
19:05the latest eruption did indeed go off.
19:07The regularity of eruptions
19:09that's currently going on in Iceland
19:11hasn't been seen in over 100 years.
19:13So hopefully when you visit,
19:15you get to see it for yourself.
19:17That was awesome!
19:19One of Iceland's wonders.
19:21You gotta fly with Gunnar.
19:23With Atlandsflug.
19:25At $500 a person,
19:27it ain't cheap, but what an experience.
19:31It was finally time to make our way east.
19:33So we got driving
19:35and got to this truly insane place
19:37right at nightfall.
19:39Screaming
19:53Let me show you
19:55where we slept last night.
19:57Love me, love me
19:59say that you love me
20:01This is one of the coolest places I've ever slept.
20:03So this dome is basically surrounded
20:05by all these pine trees
20:07and you can actually see the way they dance in the wind.
20:09I can hear the sound of birds.
20:11You're waking up to this beautiful
20:13mountain line.
20:15Not gonna lie, I've slept in some cool places
20:17that were not actually the best sleep.
20:19Last night was an awesome sleep.
20:21No, seriously. It was cozy
20:23and warm and the beds were so comfy.
20:25And in the winter,
20:27you are getting potentially a shot
20:29at seeing the northern lights.
20:31Can you imagine looking up from your bed
20:33and
20:35I think I need to come back here in the winter.
20:37You're gonna hear me saying this a lot on this trip
20:39but you're not gonna believe where we're going next.
20:41There's no sleepers on this itinerary.
20:45One and a half hours later, we drove
20:47to the very south of Iceland.
20:49A place famous for black sand beaches
20:51including this one that has a downed airplane.
20:53Hiking here takes about
20:55an hour and a half each way.
20:57But just a short drive away is the famous
20:59Rennisfjara. For any Icelandic
21:01people watching, I hope you're having
21:03a good laugh. Now, do you see
21:05any similarities?
21:07So this is Iceland for you. You're driving
21:09and you see something
21:11that is like a 10 out of 10.
21:13And I'm not just talking about her.
21:15You might come here with a set itinerary
21:17but the truth is, some places
21:19are better off left with a little
21:21bit of flexibility to go explore
21:23to see what comes your way
21:25because there's so much.
21:27You'll be driving on a stretch of road
21:29and there'll be a waterfall, a valley, a mountain,
21:31a volcanic geyser. This island
21:33is pure beauty everywhere you look.
21:35But one of those spots that you'll
21:37definitely want to check out is right here.
21:39Music
21:41Music
21:43Music
21:45Music
21:47Music
21:49Music
21:51Music
21:53Music
21:55Music
21:57Music
21:59Music
22:01I love this thing.
22:03Nice pole. Yes!
22:05The best!
22:07You gotta admire a man when he's got
22:09a nice pole.
22:11Hang on.
22:13We were soaring.
22:15I mean, this trip had us feeling like
22:17kids again. But little did we know
22:19that the highlight of today was just
22:21around the corner and it wasn't a waterfall
22:23or a view. It was
22:25a very mysterious man.
22:27Wow. This destination is not
22:29a place but a person?
22:31Day six.
22:33The fantastic Mr. Iceland.
22:35This is Mr. Iceland.
22:37Yes, I am. How does one get the
22:39title Mr. Iceland?
22:41You have to work for it. Yeah, I don't think they just hand that out.
22:43It's one thing to
22:45be alive and it's another to be
22:47living. And after swapping stories
22:49with Hordor, it was very clear
22:51he had lived a hundred lives
22:53and his past life was a banker.
22:55In fact, he built a bank.
22:57But after closing that chapter and
22:59selling the business, he moved back to
23:01his motherland of Iceland to
23:03raise horses on his own farm.
23:05My lamb.
23:07Potatoes from across the river here.
23:09Oh, wow.
23:11So this is the old house.
23:13This is where you guys are going to be staying.
23:15Oh, wow. This is so cozy.
23:17This is dreamy.
23:19So this is the old house converted into
23:21this really beautiful boutique hotel.
23:23You can feel the stories
23:25that have been lived in here.
23:27This is the oldest concrete house in
23:29So this was built in 1917.
23:31Wow.
23:33That's very old.
23:35I'm just confused. Where is the horse sleeping?
23:37So then you have
23:39your bed here and the horses
23:41come visit.
23:43And what do they come visit for?
23:45Food? Attention? Love?
23:47Yeah, exactly. Love and attention.
23:49Like we all need.
23:51Alright, we're checked in
23:53and now we're meeting
23:55some of the locals.
23:57What's your name?
24:00Over the years, Mr. Iceland
24:02has become a masterful trainer of horses.
24:04A horse whisperer of sort.
24:06And when you get the opportunity to learn
24:08from a master, you take it.
24:10The Icelandic horse is considered to be one of the two
24:12oldest horse breeds in the world.
24:14You have the Mongolian horse being one of them
24:16and then you have the Icelandic horse being the other.
24:18The roughness of the Icelandic elements
24:20the wind, the rain, the storms,
24:22the highlands, the lava, what have you
24:24creates this very sort of
24:26level-headed horse.
24:28He told us that if we showed enough confidence
24:30and skill, he would take us on a
24:32serious adventure to a remote
24:34region of Iceland that few have ever
24:36been to. Ruby and I became his
24:38apprentices in that very moment.
24:40Alright, we just went through level one
24:42training. We have learned through
24:44Mr. Iceland that
24:46these beautiful horses
24:48despite being physically dominant over
24:50any human, they're actually looking for a leader.
24:52So that is our mission today
24:54is to give the instruction
24:56the confidence and the calm to
24:58these horses so that they take us where we want to go.
25:00You guys have matching hair.
25:02Hey, Orfeir!
25:04So Ruby got the gentle sensitive one
25:06I'm getting the wild stallion.
25:08So we didn't know this when we got here
25:10but something very special is
25:12happening today. Twice a year
25:14these horses will go from one farm to the
25:16other. From the winter farm
25:18to in this case moving over to the brand
25:20new pastures, the summer farm.
25:22And with that, it's a very
25:24exciting time. It's going to be a fun one today.
25:26We've sat on horses, but we've never
25:28truly ridden a horse until today.
25:30Mr. Iceland taught us how using
25:32our body and energy, we can
25:34communicate with the horses so that
25:36the use of the reins becomes secondary.
25:38Constant focus on you.
25:40I love learning. And that one
25:42hour inside the stable with Mr.
25:44Iceland was truly
25:46a top tier moment in my life.
25:48Then we're going to have the traditional
25:50traditional
25:52This is the graduation
25:54ceremony. We've passed with flying colors
25:56and now things got real.
25:58Now we're getting our capes.
26:00He said you're going to need summer school.
26:02So then sometimes
26:04you need some
26:06encouragement. You need some bravery.
26:08Skål! Skål!
26:10That's nice.
26:12You don't have to throw them back.
26:14Oh, we're not that classy.
26:16We're American, I'm sorry.
26:18We're North Americans.
26:20Long live the Jedi.
26:22Horses are wild spirits.
26:24To control them,
26:26they need to sense your leadership.
26:28It was time to see if our training
26:30had truly prepared us for this
26:32challenge ahead.
26:34Riding with Mr. Iceland
26:36will forever be one of the most
26:38exhilarating moments of my life.
26:40It was like the feeling I first had
26:42when I was a young boy taking my
26:44training wheels off my bike.
26:46I can now truly say,
26:48I can ride a horse.
26:50But the greatest challenge was
26:52just ahead. We walked for over
26:54an hour. We walked for over
26:56an hour. We walked for over
26:58an hour. We walked for over
27:00an hour. We walked for over
27:02an hour. We walked for over
27:04an hour. We walked for over
27:06an hour. We walked for over
27:08an hour. We walked for over
27:10an hour. We walked for over
27:12an hour. We walked for over
27:14an hour. We walked for over
27:16an hour. We walked for over
27:18an hour. We walked for over
27:20an hour. We walked for over
27:22an hour. We walked for over
27:24an hour. We walked for over
27:26an hour. We walked for over
27:28an hour. We walked for over
27:30My horse dropped like the ground had been taken from underneath him.
27:35It happened so fast.
27:37But I quickly jumped off, grabbed the reins, and carefully walked him back to sturdy ground.
27:44It was at that moment that I felt I hadn't just removed the training wheels,
27:48but I was truly one with this four-legged creature.
27:50This land is harsh and unforgiving.
27:53But to so many, this adventurous terrain is home.
28:01This experience is second to none.
28:04We just parked the horses. Is that the right term? Parked?
28:08And inside of here, Mr. Iceland, what's on the menu tonight?
28:13On the menu we have a leg of lamb from my farm, obviously.
28:18We have some potatoes from Iceland's biggest potato farm across the river here.
28:22And then we have some salad, cucumbers, and tomato,
28:25rounded up with Icelandic mushroom gravy.
28:29You booking your tickets to Iceland?
28:31This is Delta. This is my new best friend.
28:33She follows the horses everywhere they go,
28:36and it's incredible because I think that she's going to get stepped on, but she's not.
28:41She just weaves in between the horses.
28:43She has been stepped on, so it doesn't happen again.
28:45Okay, so never mind.
28:47So this entire meal comes from within a 15-mile radius.
28:50Mr. Iceland was just saying to us that he actually was the one that brought these lambs from the pasture
28:56so kindly to our place.
29:00That evening, Mr. Iceland shared with us countless tales of great Vikings.
29:04I couldn't help but think they must have been his distant relatives.
29:15In the morning, we were exhausted,
29:17but it was all made easier by being woken up by this four-legged friend.
29:21We packed our bags, said our goodbyes,
29:24and Mr. Iceland even gave us a little gift to remember this experience by,
29:28this stunning traditional Icelandic wool sweater.
29:31I mean, come on. What an experience.
29:34On our way out, we passed by the almighty Skógafoss waterfall,
29:38just off the side of the highway.
29:40This island has so much to offer,
29:42and I can't wait to show you the biggest travel hack and discovery of this entire video
29:47once we make it to the very end of this road trip.
29:50But not without making our 18th stop of the day.
29:53We just pulled over on the side of the road because we saw the most magnificent scene of all time.
29:58These beautiful, beautiful Icelandic horses just laying flat on the ground.
30:03One of the things Mr. Iceland told us was that it's actually very unusual to see horses doing that,
30:08fully laying like they're dead.
30:10It's actually because they have no predators here and feel so safe and so calm.
30:16Wow.
30:18Now that's a ride.
30:20Back on the road with Arctic Adventures.
30:22I had to feed my Neopet, so I quickly got out my computer before we lost internet.
30:26So there's four-wheel drive, and then there's moon terrestrial drive,
30:30and this is a different kind of road.
30:33You would not get up here without this souped-up vehicle.
30:36We're right now deep into a glacier, swaying side to side, splashing through massive puddles.
30:42I mean, it's crazy.
30:48We're getting suited up, but like serious suited up right now.
30:53As you can see, I look like one of those traffic cones.
30:56You won't be missing me in the snow, that's for sure.
30:59Not even the biggest avalanche could hide you.
31:01All right, we're ready, and I've got my Insta360 X4.
31:11Let's get up there.
31:18Yeah!
31:22This glacier is so vast and so wide, you forget you're even on a glacier.
31:27And to have a snowmobile to explore it was just incredible.
31:31This is what freedom looks like.
31:33This camera right here is the perfect adventure camera.
31:37This camera gives you the ability to get shots of yourself without a tacky selfie stick in shot.
31:43We're not in 2016 anymore.
31:45Hey, what happened?
31:46I thought this part of the trip was pretty cool, but it added a lot of distance to the overall itinerary.
31:51I'd only add this one if you're really excited about the idea of snowmobiling.
31:55Day 8, almighty Katla.
32:02So right now we're going all-terrain mode, and we are on our way to Europe's largest and most active volcano, known as Katla.
32:12Katla is right in front of us there, and she is 100 times bigger than the volcano that erupted in 2010,
32:19and it stopped all air travel in Europe for two weeks.
32:22Katla is 100 times bigger than that volcano.
32:26Why are we going there?
32:28I can't go any faster.
32:30In the UK, they drive on the left side of the road.
32:33In Iceland, we drive on what's left of the road.
32:37In 1971, they decided to move the highway closer to the ocean.
32:42People were a little afraid to drive this close to Katla.
32:45Now I do it twice a day with very optimistic people.
32:52We have a sand hill there.
32:56This is so cool.
32:57So, we've got our helmets on, our trekking boots, and an awesome guide.
33:04He's so funny. He's got jokes and quips for every single thing that we've seen and done.
33:11It is such a crazy feeling.
33:13I just love how laid-back everyone here in Iceland is about the natural disasters and the possibility.
33:19I mean, like, what are you going to do, right?
33:21Just embrace it, go outside, and enjoy the nature while you can.
33:24So you might have thought the glaciers would be this beautiful blue, and that's coming,
33:30and that's coming, but what you're looking at is a volcanic glacier.
33:35All of this black stone around us, a lot of it at least,
33:39is actually sand that's built up on top of these massive mounds of ice.
33:45Wow.
33:47The crater.
34:00This is a destination that is on the must-list.
34:04You've just got to add it. This is so stunning.
34:07And if you have one of these, you get a totally different perspective.
34:11Absolutely amazed.
34:13I thought the tour was over. It's just getting started.
34:16Wow. Look at this.
34:18What our heroes have witnessed next goes beyond imagination.
34:30And we have made it in a glacier cave that is 900 years old.
34:36This is so cool. Just touching it is insane.
34:50Thank you so much for sacrificing yourself.
34:55A real man is a man that can ask a man for a favor.
34:59Okay. You good?
35:00Yeah.
35:01How about two?
35:02Gracias, amigo.
35:03All right.
35:04And then we'll just turn around.
35:08I feel the Viking strength.
35:10Right? You're pretty light.
35:12This is where I throw you in.
35:13Yeah, we're built different in Canada.
35:15Honestly, I've got to give props to these guys.
35:18They have been phenomenal.
35:20All the tours we've done in Iceland have been so good.
35:22I'll have the contacts down in the description if you want to get in touch.
35:30All right.
35:31The popular spot to go for food is right here.
35:35And couldn't come at a better time.
35:37I'm starving.
35:40So this right here is the famous pizzeria in town.
35:44And it's known for the black sand pizza.
35:48A pizza so delicious it inspired the surrounding sands of Iceland.
35:52If you're okay with spending $120 for four people to have pizza,
35:56you're going to love it.
35:59I love onions on pizzas.
36:01It's so good.
36:02Vik is definitely a center point of the action in Iceland.
36:05And so we found ourselves doing another night
36:07right next to the famous Seljalandafoss waterfall.
36:10Well, guys, it has been a day.
36:13This is our cute little humble boat for the night.
36:16And right behind it, I don't know if you guys can see,
36:18there is the most beautiful waterfall.
36:21Like, I feel like I'm in a fairy tale.
36:24An amazing end to the day.
36:26I'm going to go get some sleep
36:27because tomorrow we've got some fun stuff planned.
36:34If there's one discovery I'd like to lay claim to in this video,
36:37it is the end of this itinerary, but also this place.
36:41This is Faxi Bakery, and it's just 30 minutes outside of Vik.
36:45This dreamy coffee shop has fresh baked goods, impeccable vibes.
36:49Well, it's not going to be a bargain, but 120 bucks later,
36:52the four of us were stoked with a coffee, a sandwich, and a cinnamon bun.
36:55Back on the road we go.
37:02Quick little stop here that we had to make on the way.
37:05Let me show you why.
37:12A quick goodbye to Yoda Cave and back on the road
37:15because we had an hour and a half drive ahead of us.
37:21All right, guys, we're doing something really fun today.
37:24We're going on top of another glacier,
37:26but this time it's going to be a little bit more adventurous
37:29because we're going to need a pickaxe.
37:31We're going to Europe's largest glacier called...
37:35What is it called?
37:36Skaftafjell?
37:38Skaftafjell.
37:40How do you say it?
37:41Skaftafjell.
37:42Wow, nowhere near.
37:51Fun fact for anyone who watched Game of Thrones,
37:53this is where the wall scenes were filmed, and you can see why.
37:56They also filmed scenes from Star Wars here and also in Katla.
38:00Being in Iceland feels like being in a sci-fi movie.
38:13If this isn't the most Icelandic experience ever.
38:16We just pulled over at the restaurant we're eating at,
38:19and an unnamed beautiful waterfall is just right behind it.
38:24But after some glacier climbing, you got to eat some good food,
38:27and we heard this place was a must.
38:29Let's check it out.
38:33This is such an interesting concept.
38:34Downstairs, you get a little cocktail, a drink, and you wait for your dinner,
38:38and this is modeled off of basically everyone's grandma and grandpa.
38:43You got the old pieces.
38:45Apparently, Iceland is huge for their rhubarb.
38:48And so this is a rhubarb spritz.
38:51I got a rhubarb mule.
38:54I wish all mules were made with rhubarb.
38:57That's so good.
38:58This is fine dining in a small little cute town.
39:01We got lamb, we got some delicious steak tonight.
39:05There's an explosion of flavor in my mouth.
39:08Let's see if we can end it with a perfect meal score.
39:12Mmm.
39:14This is literally one of the best services I've ever had.
39:17If people want to find you, what town do they come to?
39:21Kirkuvaya cluster.
39:22Hippur?
39:23Kirkuvaya cluster.
39:28Kirkuvaya cluster.
39:30Just put that in your GPS maps.
39:32You'll find us.
39:35Right now, we're here, and we need to go all the way here.
39:39This is the greatest distance yet, so we're going to need to push hard.
39:42But I think you'll see why the distance is worth it.
39:45Cheer up, Ruby.
39:46Starting with this incredible mossy landscape.
39:49It's said there's over 600 species of mosses in Iceland.
39:53This place is so full of landscapes I've just never seen in my life.
39:57And I've seen a lot of different places.
39:59Iceland continues to blow me away.
40:05Our next stop on the east side is this magnificent canyon.
40:09Millions of years of water flow and some world-altering flash floods
40:13have carved this canyon into one of the most dramatic of landscapes.
40:16While I'm not going to dare try pronouncing it, I will say,
40:19you've got to see this place.
40:21If that isn't one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen,
40:25then I don't know what is.
40:27Seriously, the last 30 minutes driving in here, it's just mind-boggling.
40:32This has to be one of my top five landscapes.
40:34You've got a nice 15, 20-minute walk.
40:36You can go explore around it.
40:38There's these viewpoints.
40:40It's not that busy. It's amazing.
40:48Good morning!
40:52All aboard Jackie, the amphibious boat car.
40:56Yaki.
40:57Yaki, my apologies.
40:59I'm so excited!
41:00This is one of the main things I wanted to do coming to Iceland,
41:04and we're finally doing it, and I'm so ready!
41:07Here we go!
41:09Wow!
41:11And just like that, Yaki has taken us to the water.
41:27It is so peaceful out here for now.
41:30Right now we are sitting next to the giants,
41:33and you see an iceberg.
41:35But what you don't see is 90% of it,
41:38which actually goes beneath the water.
41:40Right now we're here in the hotter times of the year.
41:43It's now May, and there's a lot of action going on.
41:46Just this morning we passed by an electric blue iceberg.
41:50The reason it's that color is because it just cracked this morning.
41:54She was telling us that at any moment,
41:56icebergs can come splitting apart, sounding like thunder.
42:00They could come shooting up from the water.
42:04We're saving the glacier!
42:11Global warming stopped.
42:13Our job here is done.
42:23We got it! We got the crack.
42:26A little handful of snow just fell off.
42:29I'm feeling exhilarated.
42:31Let me show you where we're headed.
42:33Now one of Iceland's most famous spots is right at the mouth of this river,
42:36and it's called Diamond Beach.
42:38The broken apart icebergs drift here,
42:40covering the beach with fragmented ice.
42:43It was cool, but we had a lot of distance to get north,
42:46and I'm about to show you our biggest Iceland travel discovery.
42:49The roads around Iceland are very developed,
42:51but it was clear we were leaving the most inhabited areas
42:54and heading to the more remote sides as we hit these rough dirt roads.
42:58A few hours later, we had arrived in Studlagill Canyon.
43:02We might be nearing the end of this itinerary,
43:04but we got some unfinished business to do with Iceland.
43:07No wetsuit, no drysuit this time.
43:09There's one last place we had to see.
43:12Well, it was a cool idea.
43:14We have no way to get down from here,
43:16so you'll just have to think of me as a courageous man
43:19that was ready to swim and no longer needs to.
43:21I have an excuse.
43:23This stop is not for the faint of heart,
43:25but it's a beautiful place.
43:27What makes it so unique is the curvature of these stones.
43:30I think it was cool, and there were some epic spots surrounding it
43:33that we just didn't have time for,
43:35but if we stayed any longer, we would have missed our boat.
43:38Yes, you heard that right. We've got a boat to catch.
43:41So this itinerary is like nothing I've seen on YouTube.
43:44This is where all my research I hope pays off for you guys.
43:48Our final stop is here to get some food
43:50before we get on a boat to bring you to another country.
43:53We ordered some fresh, fresh fish and chips,
43:56and Brintish invited me to bring this pin
44:01and to place where I live.
44:03So I'm going to go ahead.
44:05I might be the first one.
44:07There.
44:11Here is the food here.
44:12Oh, thank you.
44:13There you go.
44:15Thank you for coming. Have a great day.
44:16I'll get your pin.
44:18See you later.
44:19See you later.
44:20Yeah.
44:22We got the lamb.
44:24Look at this.
44:25Oh my gosh, it looks so good.
44:27It's amazing. Thank you.
44:29You're welcome.
44:30All right, this is the main city in the northeast,
44:33and here you've got a few options.
44:35The first is you drive all the way back to Reykjavik
44:37in about a seven and a half hour drive
44:39by going around the other side of Iceland.
44:41By the way, if you add an extra couple hours,
44:43Husavik in the north is where they have
44:45some of the best whale watching in Iceland.
44:47Option two, park your car at the Egilstaur airport
44:51and fly back.
44:52Option three, well, that's the one we chose.
44:55And man, did we cut it tight.
44:57There ain't no Ubers out here.
44:59So we dropped the car at the airport.
45:02I'm not going to try to say any more names,
45:03in Icelandic at least.
45:05I underestimated how small the town was.
45:07There were two taxi men that had put their business cards
45:10to a cork board with pins.
45:12Luckily when talking to a few strangers in the airport,
45:15one of them offered to drive us,
45:16and here we are racing to catch the ferry.
45:20We are going to be going to the Faroe Islands
45:23on an overnight boat.
45:25We need to be down there in four minutes
45:28to board our boat.
45:30Where this trip ends, another begins.
45:32And if you want to take this trip on for yourself,
45:34you're definitely going to want my map pins.
45:36So check the link down below.
45:38And one more step, we begin the transition.
45:43Goodbye Iceland.
45:45One of the most beautiful places I've ever been to.
45:47We started in Reykjavik and we're making our way out
45:49through a totally different exit,
45:51and I think this is such a fresh take
45:54on how to travel Iceland,
45:55and I hope it helps you have the best trip ever,
45:57because truly this was one of mine,
45:59and I see myself coming back here again very soon.
46:02If you like this video, I do this all the time,
46:04and as you can see, we got another video right ahead
46:07bringing you to the Faroes.
46:08So it's either going to be linked down below, somewhere,
46:11but let's get lost again in the next one.
46:13Hey, has anyone seen my puffer?
46:15My asthma is getting, it's acting up a little bit.
46:18I'm okay.
