00:00The fundamental light is something Allah empowered you and me with already.
00:04So somebody's saying,
00:05Well, Thad, I just don't have Iman, I don't know what to do.
00:08First thing you should do is stop lying to yourself.
00:11That's probably the first step.
00:13Because you have it, you just don't want to use it.
00:15There's something inside.
00:17It's already there.
00:18Allah wouldn't be asking you to double-click that file in your hard drive
00:22if the file didn't exist already.
00:24You understand?
00:25So He says,
00:26يَسْعَى النُّورُهُمْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْ
00:28This is a very powerful thing because people feel
00:31when it comes to spiritual growth
00:33that they're powerless.
00:34Some people just have it and I just don't got it.
00:37And that's a cop-out.
00:38That's something Allah is now removing from our wrongful thinking
00:43in terms of our faith.
00:45As-salamu alaykum.
00:46Before you begin this video,
00:47just quickly wanted to let you know that
00:49so much of the work on the Qur'an has been completed on Bayyinah TV.
00:52I want you to enjoy systematically studying the Qur'an
00:54from the beginning all the way to the end
00:56in brief and then in great detail.
00:58And to do that,
00:59I'd like for you to sign up on bayyinatv.com
01:01and once you appreciate what's going on in Bayyinah TV,
01:04I want you to become an ambassador for it
01:06and share that subscription with friends and family
01:08and give it as a gift also.
01:10I told you,
01:11الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
01:12You remember,
01:13الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا was an umbrella term
01:15that included three groups of people
01:17and the third group had an A and a B.
01:19Do you remember that?
01:20Right?
01:21So even people that are visibly believers,
01:23even if their faith has withered up or dried up on the inside,
01:26they're included in that too.
01:28But on Judgment Day,
01:30how you were labeled on the outside
01:32is actually irrelevant.
01:34On Judgment Day,
01:36how I saw you and you saw me
01:38no longer matters.
01:39I see you as a believer,
01:40you see me as a believer.
01:42All of those labels
01:44and all of that benefit of the doubt,
01:46all of that is gone.
01:47Because Judgment Day is not about how we see each other,
01:50Judgment Day is about how Allah sees us directly,
01:53without all the filters,
01:55without all the social filters and the protections.
01:58None of them are there.
01:59In fact, the hypocrites Allah describes,
02:01the fact that they consider themselves Muslim
02:03is like a shield.
02:04اتَّخَذُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً
02:06They took their faith, their oath,
02:08meaning their Islam,
02:09as a shield.
02:10In this life, it is a shield.
02:12But on Judgment Day,
02:13does anybody get to have a shield before Allah?
02:15No.
02:16تَرَكْتُمْ مَا خَوَّلْنَاكُمْ
02:17You've left behind all the wrappings you were covered in.
02:20You're unwrapped.
02:21You're completely vulnerable.
02:23And so now Allah doesn't use the phrase
02:26الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
02:28Those who believed.
02:29The verb form.
02:30He actually uses the nominal, the noun form.
02:33المؤمنين والمؤمنات
02:35Believing men and believing women.
02:37What's the difference between using the verbal form
02:40and the nominal form?
02:41I'll explain this in English to you guys.
02:43If I say,
02:44He teaches.
02:45He teaches.
02:46That's a verb or a noun?
02:48Teaches.
02:49That's a verb.
02:50But if I say,
02:51He's a teacher.
02:52Is that a verb or a noun?
02:54Now, that's a noun.
02:55Right?
02:56So, teaches is a verb.
02:57And teacher is a noun.
02:58Now, if I say,
02:59He teaches.
03:00That means,
03:01maybe he teaches on the weekends.
03:03Maybe he teaches sometimes.
03:05It's not a permanent thing.
03:07Maybe he teaches part-time.
03:08Maybe he teaches just in the summer.
03:10Right?
03:11The verb is temporary.
03:13A verb, an act, doesn't define you.
03:16Because it's limited in its scope.
03:19Either by the present, or by the future,
03:21or by the past, or by the circumstance.
03:24It's limited.
03:25But when you call somebody a teacher,
03:27then you've kind of described a part of their identity.
03:30Like, that's part of who they actually are.
03:33You know?
03:34Like, when you talk to somebody and you say,
03:36Who are you?
03:37They say,
03:38I'm so-and-so.
03:39I'm Zainab.
03:40I'm Ahmed.
03:41I'm Kareem.
03:42I'm so-and-so.
03:43What are you?
03:44And they say,
03:45I'm a gamer.
03:46Right?
03:47Or they say,
03:48I'm a TikToker.
03:49Or I'm a blogger.
03:50Basically meaning,
03:51I'm a useless human being
03:52that has no purpose in this universe.
03:54I'm a teacher.
03:55I'm something.
03:56I'm something.
03:57But that er,
03:58is part of their identity,
04:00is it not?
04:01When Allah describes believers,
04:03believers,
04:04not those who believed.
04:06That's the verb.
04:07Those who believed.
04:08That's the verb.
04:09But now the noun is being used.
04:11Believe, believer,
04:13male believers and female believers.
04:15That's the phrase that's being used.
04:17Believing men and believing women as a noun.
04:19You know what that means?
04:20These were the people
04:21that internalized that faith
04:23to the point that it became a part of their identity,
04:26coursed through their veins.
04:28They had it for real.
04:29It was solid within them.
04:31It was stable within them.
04:33Yes, faith goes up and down.
04:35And teachers have good days and bad days.
04:37Some days they're better teachers than other days.
04:38Isn't that what happens?
04:40But at the end of it all,
04:41they're still a teacher, aren't they?
04:43There are some people, yes,
04:44they'll have spiritual, you know,
04:46fluctuation in their faith.
04:48Maybe Fridays will be higher than Saturdays.
04:51Ramadan will be higher than post-Ramadan.
04:55That'll happen.
04:56But at the core of it,
04:58there's a minimum temperature heat that maintains.
05:03That faith is there.
05:04And that's what characterizes them as al-mu'mineen.
05:07It doesn't mean they have the same level of faith all the time,
05:09but it does mean they maintain at least a minimum spiritual energy within them.
05:14And that energy, that constancy that they develop,
05:17that minimal constancy that they develop,
05:19that is now how they are being described on Judgment Day.
05:23So what used to be inside has now come outside.
05:27It used to be batin.
05:28Iman used to be batin.
05:30But on Judgment Day,
05:31iman will become zahir.
05:34And in the beginning,
05:35in al-awwal,
05:36it used to be batin.
05:38And in al-akhir,
05:39it will become zahir.
05:40Why am I using these words?
05:41Because Allah said about Himself what?
05:43wal-awwalu wal-akhiru wal-zahiru wal-batinu
05:46Right?
05:47So now iman,
05:48that is hidden inside my chest,
05:49will become batin.
05:51It will become zahir.
05:52It will become apparent on Judgment Day.
05:54Then you'll notice here
05:56that Allah said al-mu'mineen wal-mu'minat.
06:00al-mu'mineen wal-mu'minat.
06:02Believing men and believing women.
06:04You should know something about the Arabic constructions.
06:07When you say believers,
06:09al-mu'mineen,
06:10the masculine plural form,
06:12jama' mudhakkar salim.
06:13When you use that form in Arabic,
06:15it includes men and women.
06:17It's actually inclusive of men and women.
06:20When you say al-mu'minat,
06:22it's exclusively women.
06:24So if I say,
06:25ya ayyuhal muslimoon,
06:27ya ayyuhal muslims,
06:29does that include men and women or no?
06:31Yes, but if I say,
06:32ya ayyuhal muslimat,
06:34then it only includes the women,
06:36so in plural form,
06:38generally speaking,
06:39the grammatical masculine in Arabic is inclusive,
06:44and the feminine is exclusive.
06:47The point I'm making is,
06:48if it's inclusive,
06:49and we just said al-mu'mineen,
06:52sorry,
06:53okay, if I said al-mu'mineen,
06:56that it would have included women already, wouldn't it?
06:59And why you have to go out of your way and mention what?
07:02al-mu'minat.
07:04We have to pay attention to that,
07:05because it was already included,
07:07so it's being mentioned kind of out of,
07:09Allah is going out of His way to mention it.
07:12Okay?
07:13al-mu'mineen wal-mu'minat.
07:14Ibn Ashur's theory on this is,
07:16in Madani Quran,
07:17Allah went out of His way to show the role of women
07:21and the status of women in many matters
07:24being equal to the status of men.
07:27And that's why Allah highlighted them,
07:29especially even though grammatically,
07:31there's no need to specially outline them.
07:35And Judgment Day,
07:36the light is coming,
07:37and you shouldn't think that the light is coming
07:39from believing men and not believing women,
07:42or women are just kind of secondly included.
07:45No, especially also believing women.
07:47In fact, it's as if the women are being given
07:50a special honor in this ayah.
07:52You will notice this as a continuous theme
07:54in these nine surahs,
07:56from Surah Al-Hadeed all the way to Surah Al-Tahrim.
08:00The subject of women will come up over and over again.
08:03In fact, women are a major subject in the Quran.
08:05In Quranic studies,
08:07women are a major theme.
08:09Recently, I read a book on women in the Quran.
08:13I'm not going to tell you the name of the book.
08:15It was horrible.
08:17It was so bad.
08:19It was so bad.
08:21Because somebody was like really woke,
08:24and they wanted to woke the Quran.
08:26And they put their brain to sleep to be woke.
08:30This is a horrendous piece of work.
08:32Horrendous.
08:34There's a new theme in gender wars,
08:38in media, in movies, and everywhere else.
08:40You'll notice that a lot of male actors
08:43in movies are now acting very feminine.
08:46And a lot of female actors are acting very masculine.
08:50That's kind of this new age kind of thing.
08:54You could be a five-year-old girl,
08:57and she beats up ten guys with swords.
08:59And then she goes,
09:01Yeah, girl power, that kind of thing.
09:03And the guy's like,
09:05I'm so nervous right now.
09:07I'm just really in my feelings at the moment.
09:09I'm triggered.
09:11And she says, come on, let's go.
09:13Not that I watch movies.
09:15But it is for Islamic reasons.
09:19Anyway, so.
09:21But the point regardless is
09:24that women have been highlighted very especially.
09:28And we should study the Qur'an
09:31not in reaction to what's happening in the world.
09:35So we shouldn't say,
09:37Okay, I'm going to look into the Qur'an
09:39and see how much of women's live
09:41or feminism or equal rights
09:43can I find in the Qur'an.
09:45Because you already came to the Qur'an with a bias.
09:47Or if you come from a very traditional patriarchal society
09:50where men have a very high role
09:52and they're basically treated like trash.
09:54Not even recycled.
09:56Then you want to reinforce that
09:58and you're going to come to the Qur'an
10:00to maintain your patriarchal view.
10:02That's also a bias.
10:04Right?
10:06And both of them are a disservice to the book of Allah.
10:08The word of Allah is supreme.
10:12And you might find that the word of Allah
10:14is more liberal than you would like it to be in some places.
10:17And you might find that the word of Allah
10:19is more conservative than you would like it to be
10:21in other places.
10:23And that's just how it's going to be.
10:25And you often see people
10:27being like, the moment they hear something
10:29culturally they're not used to,
10:31Oh, this is a new agenda in the Qur'an.
10:33These people are introducing a new agenda in the Qur'an.
10:35No, actually,
10:37you're not allowing the Qur'an to speak for itself.
10:39Or the sunnah to speak for itself.
10:41And in other places,
10:43we're pushing into the Qur'an something that's not there.
10:46Just to meet with our new standards of social justice.
10:49And we can't fall into that trap.
10:51Because our Rabb is Allah, not the culture.
10:53So,
10:54يَوْمَ تَرَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتَ
10:56is an important study.
10:58The role of believing men and believing women.
11:01As distinct from each other.
11:03So, Al-Ahzab is a really good place
11:05to study that in detail.
11:07Anyway, another observation
11:09is Allah says,
11:11يَسْعَى نُورُهُمْ
11:13Their light will be running forward.
11:15I'll come back to that.
11:17On what do they mean by the light coming forward?
11:20I will share my own thoughts with you first.
11:22On this.
11:23And then we'll read what the scholars have said about it.
11:26There are two lights being mentioned.
11:28There's a light from in front of you
11:30and there's light on your right hand.
11:32I would argue,
11:33the most compelling interpretation of this to me
11:35seems to be,
11:36Allah has already mentioned,
11:38believe and spend.
11:40Has He said believe and spend?
11:42And what is spent
11:45is what you legitimately earn.
11:47Right?
11:48If you stole and spent,
11:49it's not really Sadaqah.
11:51And when you earn legitimately,
11:54that is earning by your right hand.
11:56And the right hand is also
11:58a manifestation of good deeds.
12:00And the right hand is also
12:01a literary construct in Arabic
12:03for fulfilling your oaths.
12:04Like,
12:05قَدْ أَخَذَ مِثَاقَكُمْ
12:07Because when you take an oath,
12:08أَخَذَ الْيَمِينَ
12:09They took the oath with their right hand.
12:11Right?
12:12Nowadays we say we shook hands on it.
12:14It's not the left hand you shook,
12:15it's the right hand that you shook.
12:17Right?
12:18Oaths are also taken in court
12:19not with the left hand
12:20but with the right hand.
12:22And that's something in ancient cultures.
12:23It's in Arabian culture too.
12:25It's a part of the phenomenon.
12:27Allah also mentioned previously,
12:28وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًۭ
12:30Allah knows what you do.
12:32And Allah also said,
12:33Allah knows what's in the chest.
12:35So what I'm getting at is,
12:36Allah talked about faith and then actions.
12:39And then faith and then actions.
12:40And then faith and then actions.
12:41Multiple times.
12:42What's in the chest is faith.
12:44What you do is your actions.
12:46Believe is faith.
12:48Spend is an action.
12:50So faith and action.
12:51Faith and action.
12:52And Judgment Day comes
12:53and there's a light coming from in front of you.
12:55Meaning from your chest.
12:57Which must be the light of your what?
12:59Your faith.
13:00And there's a light coming from your right hand.
13:02Or right by your right side.
13:04Which must be the light of your what?
13:06Actions.
13:07Also, the deeds that you do,
13:09the good deeds that you do,
13:10are written into your book.
13:12Which on Judgment Day will be handed to you.
13:14If you did well,
13:15your book will be handed to you where?
13:17In your right hand.
13:19So the right hand has the book
13:21that has all the good deeds you did.
13:23And those good deeds
13:25turn into light on Judgment Day.
13:27Those good deeds are becoming light.
13:29The more good deeds you did,
13:31the more light's coming out of your right hand.
13:33And the more good deeds you did,
13:34it's probably because you had really strong faith.
13:36So the light in front of your chest
13:38is emanating even more.
13:39You understand?
13:40So both of those are corresponding to each other.
13:43The light of our faith,
13:44the light of iman,
13:46and the light of the right hand.
13:48And now go back to what Allah said in the previous passage,
13:50right in the center,
13:51in the heart of the section 2.
13:53He said,
13:59In this life,
14:00the purpose of revelation
14:01is to pull us out of darknesses into light.
14:04And we talked about darknesses and light last time.
14:06But now we add a new dimension to that.
14:08On Judgment Day will be darknesses.
14:10Darkness on top of darkness on Judgment Day.
14:13And then Allah,
14:14those who follow this revelation,
14:16Allah has given them the light.
14:18And the light is actually twofold.
14:20He's given us light on, you know,
14:23in front of us and to the right.
14:25And I'm kind of breaking the surprise,
14:27but towards the end of the surah,
14:29Allah will say,
14:30يُعْتِكُمْ كِفْلَيْنِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ
14:32وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ نُورًا
14:33He'll give you two portions of His mercy.
14:36Two portions.
14:37Two lights are being described here.
14:38Two lights.
14:39Isn't that beautiful?
14:40By the end of the surah,
14:41He'll tie it all up
14:42and He'll say,
14:43كِفْلَيْنِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ
14:44وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ نُورًا
14:45Anyway, so that's something about the light
14:47that before we read the scholars,
14:49is something that I want you to know
14:50from my perspective on this.
14:52Now,
14:55the idea of نورهم,
14:58Allah didn't say light will come out
15:00from in front of them.
15:02And they're right.
15:03He said their light.
15:05Their light.
15:06The difference between saying light
15:07and their light.
15:10That means the light belongs to who?
15:12It belongs to them.
15:14Now, let me ask you this.
15:15Do you understand this concept?
15:16This is a very powerful concept.
15:19If Allah tells me to spend,
15:21doesn't that mean Allah has given me
15:23the power to make money?
15:26Because if He told me to spend,
15:28I must be empowered enough
15:29to have money to begin with
15:31to be able to spend.
15:32If I never had anything to begin with,
15:33how can I spend?
15:34You understand?
15:35So who has the power to earn the money?
15:38Who's been enabled and empowered
15:40to actually have wealth?
15:42Or to have talent?
15:43We have been.
15:44We've been empowered, yes?
15:46When Allah says believe,
15:49He says spend.
15:51You can't spend unless you're empowered
15:52to have the money.
15:54If He says have faith,
15:56then that must mean
15:57you have all the potential,
16:00all the capability within you,
16:02everything needed to actually have what?
16:06Faith.
16:07Iman is not something
16:09that's just coming from the heavens
16:10and had nothing to do with you.
16:12Allah decided I don't have Iman,
16:14what can I do?
16:15Make dua, Allah put Iman in my heart.
16:17Hold on, buddy.
16:19Hold on, buddy.
16:21Yes, in fact,
16:22when He told you to have Iman,
16:24Allah wouldn't be telling you to have Iman
16:27if it's something He does.
16:30If it's just up to Him,
16:31then He could just say,
16:32okay, I put it on you,
16:33you have it now.
16:35But the fact that He told you to have Iman
16:37means you have the power to have faith.
16:40So the amount of light I have inside me
16:43and the amount of light I nourish in my chest
16:46is actually up to who?
16:48It's up to me.
16:50And what is proving that in this ayah?
16:53يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُمْ
16:56يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُمْ
16:57Their light is coming out.
16:59Light that belong to them.
17:01Allah reveals a light.
17:03Allah empowers your light.
17:05Allah increases your light.
17:07That's what He does.
17:09He enhances the light.
17:11He increases people in guidance, for example.
17:14You know,
17:16يَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعًا
17:18زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا
17:20نُورٌ عَلَى نُورٍ
17:21Those are enhancements of light.
17:23But the fundamental light
17:24is something Allah empowered you and me with already.
17:27So somebody saying,
17:28I just don't have iman.
17:29I don't know what to do.
17:31First thing you should do
17:32is stop lying to yourself.
17:34That's probably the first step.
17:36Because you have it,
17:37you just don't want to use it.
17:39There's something inside.
17:40It's already there.
17:42Allah wouldn't be asking you
17:43to double-click that file in your hard drive
17:45if the file didn't exist already.
17:47You understand?
17:48So He says,
17:49يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُمْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِهِمْ
17:51وَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْ
17:52This is a very powerful thing
17:53because people feel
17:54when it comes to spiritual growth
17:56that they're powerless.
17:57Some people just have it
17:58and I just don't got it.
18:00And that's a cop-out.
18:01That's something Allah is now
18:03removing from our wrongful thinking
18:06in terms of our faith.
18:08يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُمْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِهِمْ
18:09وَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْ
18:10And finally here,
18:11I've written a note.
18:12النور الحقيقي والمعنوي
18:15Which means on Judgment Day,
18:17actually the light will physically be,
18:19feel like a light.
18:20An actual light in the dark
18:22and you're walking towards Jannah
18:24because there's a light in front of you
18:26and the light isn't all the way.
18:30It's not like the whole highway is lit.
18:32Like imagine you have a flashlight
18:34or a torch, you know.
18:36And if you have it,
18:38you can only,
18:39the light only goes so far.
18:41Right?
18:42And depending on the strength of your light,
18:44some people can see 5 feet ahead,
18:46some people can see 500 feet ahead,
18:48some people can see a mile ahead
18:50depending on the strength of their light.
18:52Right?
18:53And if back in the day,
18:55people used to have a torch, right?
18:57They lit the fire and they have a torch.
18:59What's the danger of having a torch?
19:01Over time, what might happen?
19:03The fuel might, the oil might run out,
19:05the fire might go out,
19:07a breeze might come and take it away.
19:09If you have a flashlight today
19:10and you're walking in the woods,
19:11what's the danger?
19:13The battery could die.
19:15Right?
19:16So it's not like it's guaranteed
19:17that the light's gonna stay,
19:18it could flicker out.
19:20So in Surah Al-Tahrim,
19:21we're gonna find that
19:23this light that they're walking in,
19:25they're worried that it's not gonna be,
19:28it's not gonna last.
19:29So they ask Allah as they're walking,
19:32the believers ask Allah as they're walking,
19:34رَبَّنَا أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا
19:37Could you make our light complete for us?
19:40Because even though I had light,
19:42I had some faith,
19:43you had some faith,
19:44we had some good deeds,
19:46maybe the battery for our faith
19:48and our good deeds
19:49wasn't good enough
19:50to get us all the way to Jannah.
19:52I mean, it's good,
19:53but it's one mile good,
19:54it's half a mile good,
19:55but the walk is 10 miles,
19:56what are you gonna do?
19:58Yeah, Allah, could you extend
19:59the battery life on this?
20:01So there's,
20:02now what we're learning is
20:03judgment day salvation
20:04is about my efforts,
20:06my faith,
20:07my deeds,
20:08but in the end,
20:09that alone isn't enough.
20:11Who's going to complete the light?
20:13That's Allah.
20:15But you have to have light of your deeds
20:17and light of your faith
20:19to begin with
20:20for Allah to complete it.
20:22You have to have yours to begin with
20:24for it to be added to.
20:25You can't have nothing
20:26and say,
20:27Ya Allah, a little light please.
20:28I got nothing over here.
20:30No,
20:31Atbim lana noorana
20:32means the light's already there,
20:33Ya Allah, complete it for us.
20:34Right?
20:35So that's al-noor al-haqiqi.
20:36Al-noor al-ma'nawi means
20:38actually this light
20:41in this life,
20:43in this life,
20:45didn't look like physical light.
20:47It's not like when you turn
20:48the light off at home
20:49and you go to bed,
20:50your chest is like
20:51illuminating the room
20:52and your right hand
20:53is illuminating your room.
20:54You're like, so annoying,
20:55I can't sleep.
20:56Too much iman.
20:57Like, shh.
21:01It's a spiritual light right now.
21:04It's within you right now.
21:06Right?
21:07And where does that come from?
21:08These two things feed each other.
21:10The basic point,
21:11instead of getting super philosophical,
21:13these two things feed each other.
21:15My,
21:16what I feel about Allah
21:18and how my heart is attached to Allah
21:20depends on what I do.
21:23Prayer will help.
21:25Charity will help.
21:27Good company will help.
21:29Listening to a reminder will help.
21:31All of those things
21:32are me using my right hand.
21:34Fulfilling my promise will help.
21:36Doing the ethical thing will help.
21:38You know,
21:40the way I describe good deeds
21:43and spirituality
21:44is very similar to
21:45what Allah has done in nature
21:47with the body.
21:48The soul is similar to the body
21:50in some ways.
21:51The body is made up of multiple muscles.
21:53Yes?
21:54Your shoulders,
21:55your arms,
21:56your back,
21:57all through.
21:58You're made up of multiple muscles.
21:59The more you,
22:00when you exercise a muscle,
22:02it's sometimes,
22:04it has to be uncomfortable
22:05for you to be able to get stronger.
22:08If you're a runner
22:09and you run for the first time,
22:11you're going to be, you know,
22:12panting in 30 seconds.
22:15But the next day,
22:16you'll last 35 seconds.
22:17And the next day, 45 seconds.
22:19And the next day, 2 minutes.
22:21The more you run,
22:22the stronger you're getting.
22:23Is that true or no?
22:25But in order to get stronger,
22:27you have to hit the point of discomfort
22:29and break it.
22:30You have to reach
22:31your breaking point every time.
22:33And that's the only way
22:34your stamina is going to build,
22:35isn't it?
22:36And the more you're exercising it,
22:38the stronger you're getting all around.
22:41Now,
22:42imagine someone
22:43who lied down in a bed
22:44and decided not to get up for a year.
22:47They're just going to lie in bed
22:48for one year.
22:49Food will be brought to them.
22:51Clothes will be brought to them.
22:52I don't know what
22:53the bathroom situation is,
22:54but some kind of technology
22:55was developed for them.
22:56They are not getting out of bed.
22:58For example,
22:59sometimes there are people
23:00in a coma, aren't they?
23:01And they're in a coma
23:02for six months,
23:03eight months.
23:04What happens to them
23:05when the coma is over?
23:06Are they able to stand up?
23:08Because if you don't use it,
23:12you're going to lose it.
23:14You're going to lose it.
23:16The more you use it,
23:18the more you get
23:19an enhanced ability to use it.
23:21Your ability to use it
23:22gets better and better.
23:24And the less you use it,
23:25your ability goes lesser and lesser.
23:28Good deeds are a cycle.
23:30The more you do them,
23:31the stronger you get.
23:34Meaning the more you do them,
23:35the stronger your iman gets.
23:37The iman is your fuel.
23:39The stronger your iman gets,
23:40you're able to do more good deeds.
23:43And the more good deeds you do,
23:44that end up strengthening,
23:45you know, because cardio,
23:47you're using your legs,
23:48you're using your body,
23:49but it's actually strengthening
23:50your heart and your lung capacity.
23:53It's strengthening you
23:54from within somewhere else.
23:55It's not just strengthening your legs.
23:56And it's because you can retain
23:57more oxygen in your blood
23:59and you're oxygenating better,
24:01you can function better.
24:02Your battery life is increased.
24:04The same way good deeds
24:05are making you spiritually stronger.
24:08And then you're doing more of them
24:09and it's making you stronger.
24:11And this cycle,
24:12this is the virtuous cycle.
24:14This is the virtuous cycle.
24:16But what happens when someone
24:17is doing exercise,
24:19using the body analogy,
24:20they're doing good exercise,
24:21but they're eating junk food.
24:24What happens?
24:26Are they making progress still?
24:28Even if they are,
24:29they're not moving forward.
24:30They move a little forward,
24:31they move five steps back.
24:32Then they move a little forward,
24:33they move five steps back.
24:34Because you can't just do the good,
24:35you have to also remove the bad.
24:38So in order for me to develop
24:41this light on my right hand,
24:43I have to kind of lessen
24:45the activity of the left hand.
24:48Bad deeds.
24:50The people who will get their book
24:51handed to them in their left hand.
24:53That's the only way
24:54these lights are going to develop
24:56and nurture and further.
24:58And that's the formula
24:59Allah gave us in
25:00يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُمْ بَيْنَ أَيْذِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْ
