Students from Wolverhampton College lay a Time Capsule in the grounds of the new City Learning Quarter in the centre of the city.
The capsule contains prospectuses, photographs, newsletters, article and other memorabilia showcasing the college's long history as a further education provider in the city.
It also contains a message from the college to whoever finds it in the future, as well as a letter from Councillor Chris Burden, Wolverhampton Council cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills

00:00That's it, you've got it, like that, that's it, okay, and then you can turn it off, that's
00:28it, and then you can start filling it in whenever you want.
00:32Can I have a bit of flat, please?
00:34Yeah, a good horizontal, that's fine.
00:36That's it, that's perfect.
00:42Ooh, you've got lots of fill.
00:44You've got to be hearing that one, mate.
00:52Fabulous.
01:01I'm here with Chris Ferdin, he is the member of cabinet for, remind me again Chris, what
01:07you do?
01:08City Development, Jobs and Skills.
01:10And you're here today to obviously see the time capsule go into the ground, the official
01:15start for it.
01:16Tell me a bit about being here today, what it means for you and the council to be here.
01:20Yeah, I mean this is an amazing thing to be at because we're genuinely seeing the fabric
01:24of our city transformed, this is the whole city, not just the college, it's adult learning,
01:28it's the library as well, the library being renewed, a whole new college being built,
01:32and there's going to be thousands more people in the city centre every day once it opens.
01:35And as well as that, there's also the significant exposure of the historical document being
01:39brought here.
01:40Exactly, it's part of where we are in the city at the moment, so there's a letter from
01:43me and they're talking about actually where we are, where we want to get to in the next
01:4650, 100 years, let's see if we've got to those places.
01:48No spoilers, obviously.
01:51We want jobs and skills for the future, we want kids from here to go into high-level
01:55learning, high-level jobs, and track those jobs to the city as well.
01:59I'm here with Louise Thorpe, she's the Principal Achievement Executive of Wolverhampton College,
02:03standing inside the new surroundings, how are you?
02:06That's fabulous, really excited, we can see what's going to be coming in the near future,
02:11September 25 for our new students.
02:14And obviously you've put the new additions in today.
02:16Tell me a bit about the capsule, tell me about the idea behind it.
02:19It's just to really create memories about Paddock Road, it's been in the community
02:23for a long time, a lot of staff have been there a long time, a lot of students have
02:27come and gone, so we've captured college life, so perspectives are in there, staff
02:32pictures, newspaper articles, ID badges, so hopefully it will give people a feel of what
02:38college life was when it was opened.
02:40And obviously that's the past, and we're obviously celebrating the past, but we're
02:44inside the future, how excited are you about this new building?
02:47Absolutely thrilled, our other campus, ATAC, is now being opened, that's Phase 1, the
02:52City Learning Quarter, this is Phase 2, can't wait for it to open.
02:57We can now see it, students will start coming on tours here so they can see it through their
03:02open days, and we're just thrilled it's happening.
03:05And as Chris said, it's all about obviously the students, the college, but also about
03:08the reputation of the city as well, isn't it?
03:11Absolutely, being in the city centre can really serve lots more residents, lots more students,
03:16and actually staff can come into the city and get involved in other facilities around here.
