“Why do you outsource legal services yet the factories have fully-fledged advocates of the high court paid monthly? The money the outsourced lawyers ask for is unfathomable.” DP Rigathi Gachagua said. https://shorturl.at/95rMd

00:00I would like somebody to explain to me and indeed to government why when KTDA has a legal
00:08department with lawyers who are registered advocates of the High Court of Kenya, why
00:13do you outsource legal services from law firms that are so exorbitant, yet we have a fully
00:22fledged legal department with lawyers paid monthly and they are admitted as advocates
00:34of the High Court.
00:35They can go to court and argue cases on behalf of KTDA.
00:39But we leave the advocates there, they are paid monthly, and when we have a case, we
00:47go and find lawyers to come out and they pay a lot of money, that money people, men, they
00:52cut off.
00:53Let's say you are a lawyer or not, let's say you are not, this must stop, we can't
01:06accept it.
01:07And let me say also, I have heard a few directors saying that KTDA is an independent company,
01:14the government doesn't interfere, but you serve 800,000 farmers, those 800,000 farmers
01:23are Kenyans and they have money, they have money, they are somebody, we are the government.
01:33It cannot be, when we negotiated these cases, out of court separately, the kind of money
01:43the lawyers are asking for is astronomical, I mean it's unbelievable, yet we have a full
01:59fledged legal department.
02:03So we either scrap that department, then we outsource lawyers, because now all of them
02:15are admitted advocates of the High Court, KTDA subsidiaries, I also have a news of wastage,
02:24investment in loss making businesses without returns to the farmers, KTDA is a waste of money.
02:30Now this waste of money, who taught you to build houses and pay taxes?
02:39We don't have a job to pay taxes.
02:44We'll be having a meeting with the new minister and the board, so that all loss making subsidiaries
02:50are shut down, because that loss is absorbed by who?
02:57By the farmer, not by the directors.
