00:00Building Numbers In this module, you will learn to build numbers
00:11up to 10,000.
00:14This is an abacus.
00:16It has four spikes.
00:18Here, the rightmost spike represents the 1's place.
00:24The second spike from the right represents the 10's place.
00:29The third spike from the right represents the 100's place.
00:34And the leftmost spike represents the 1,000's place.
00:39Let's see what Sid is doing with abacus.
00:43He is playing with an abacus.
00:46He puts some beads on each spike of the abacus.
00:50He uses four different colors of beads for four different spikes.
00:57His mother Rhea comes to him and asks him which number he has made.
01:03She asks him to make the number he represented on the abacus using cards.
01:11Let's see which number he has represented on the abacus.
01:15There are three yellow beads in the 1 spike, five green beads in the 10's spike, eight
01:23blue beads in the 100's spike, and one red bead in the 1,000's spike.
01:30Do you know which number is formed here?
01:34One red bead in the 1,000's spike represents 1,000, eight beads in the 100's spike represent
01:43800, five beads in the 10's spike represent 50, and three beads in 1's spike represent
01:543.
01:56So we can say the number represented by Sid on the abacus is 1,000 plus 800 plus 50 plus
02:063 is equal to 1,853.
02:13He added one bead to the 100's spike, one bead to the 10's spike, and five beads to
02:21the 1's spike.
02:32Do you know now what number he has built?
02:37The abacus has eight beads in 1's spike, six beads in the 10's spike, nine beads in the
02:46100's spike, and one bead in the 1,000's spike.
02:51So we can say that the number represented by Sid on the abacus is 1,000 plus 900 plus
03:0060 plus 8 which is equal to 1,968.
03:07In 1,968, 8 is at the 1's place, 6 is at the 10's place, 9 is at the 100's place, and 1
03:20is at the 1,000's place.
03:23In the similar way, we can build many four-digit numbers on an abacus.
03:32Let's recap.
03:34Many four-digit numbers can be built using an abacus.
03:39The rightmost spike represents the 1's place, the second spike from the right represents
03:46the 10's place, the third spike from the right represents the 100's place, and the
03:53leftmost spike represents the 1,000's place.
