00:00This is my first time ever taking something out like this.
00:03This is cool.
00:04It made it more enjoyable.
00:06I've never seen anything like this.
00:13So we're here at South by Southwest with Mod Bikes today.
00:16I'm with Dor, he's going to be taking us through the shop.
00:18Let's start with a quick tour.
00:20We just moved in early this year.
00:22We built this place from scratch.
00:24It was only like four walls.
00:25Right here we have our garage.
00:28So this is where we build the bikes.
00:30We do the maintenance before everything gets shipped.
00:32It goes through inspection here.
00:35We have these cool lifts.
00:38This is our warehouse.
00:39We store all the inventory here.
00:41And everything is being shipped in and out from here.
00:44This is a custom setup for the ride today.
00:48Now as cool as that is, I'm not just here to take the tour.
00:51Today I'm checking out the refresh of their EZ eBike with the updated Sidecar 3.
00:55This is actually our new EZ 3 model that has a lot of cool upgrades.
01:00First of all, we have this color display.
01:02It has a USB socket here at the bottom.
01:04These modes were custom configured to provide a specific performance for a specific use.
01:11Fit mode, which I'm the most proud of, will allow you to work out with your regular bike.
01:16And make it feel like you're riding a regular bike.
01:19We have cargo mode.
01:20So if you're with the sidecar or if you're with heavy cargo, you'll accelerate fast.
01:25And after that, it's going to preserve energy.
01:27How much do you trust me?
01:28I trust you a lot.
01:29I think you got this.
01:31Link, I think I have found you a new vehicle, buddy.
01:35Coming in hot.
01:39And in turbo, effortless.
01:41Effortless.
01:42By getting this bike and sidecar combo, you can easily take your pets, kids,
01:46or in my case, friends, along with you on your rides and adventures.
01:50The new model, so this is the EZ, has a 48 volt, 15 amp battery.
01:55It's also compatible with our new dual battery setup.
01:59So you have this special mounting point here at the bottom.
02:03You can attach a second 15 amp battery.
02:07And have a dual battery setup of 30 amps, which is crazy.
02:11You can do up to 50 miles on a single battery.
02:14So with two, it's almost up to 100 miles, which is pretty cool.
02:18We have a 750 watt rear hub motor.
02:21These are our motors.
02:23And what's cool about them is that the gears has like metal plates on both sides.
02:28So it's not just the nylon in the middle, but there's also the metal plates on the sides,
02:32which makes it a lot more reliable.
02:35And it can take a lot more without getting the gears break,
02:38which sometimes happens with some of the motors.
02:40Dual suspension.
02:41So both on the rear seat post, you have a suspension seat post with a very nice and comfortable seat.
02:47In the front, we have like a 100 millimeter suspension in the front,
02:51which is very nice and comfortable.
02:54Together with kind of like the adjustable stem and the pedal position,
02:58this bike is very, very comfortable.
03:00Now accessories, obviously, that's our like favorite thing.
03:03This is our Snap-on Rack.
03:05And our Snap-on Rack is a patented design that we created.
03:10And it's compatible with our Snap-on plate.
03:13And that means that you can just take any accessory in the Snap-on family and snap it on.
03:18Obviously, at $4,190, the Mod EZ with its Sidecar 3 isn't cheap.
03:24But undeniably, this is a head-turning e-bike with a really cool retro styling
03:28that can easily switch from a standalone bike to a sidecar hauling beast within just a few clicks.
03:33Oh, I got the crash helmet.
03:35Nice.
03:40So if you've been wanting to bring along your pet or your buddy with you on your bike rides
03:44and you want a bike that makes it feel easy and fun,
03:47then the Mod EZ with its Sidecar 3 might be worth checking out,
03:51assuming you have the cash for it.
03:53Now turning did require a little bit more effort on my part.
03:57But altogether, the EZ bike with its extra cargo felt extremely easy and intuitive to ride.
04:02In fact, it's like riding a bike with training wheels.
04:05You don't even have to worry about balancing anymore.
04:07This is my first time ever taking something out like this.
04:10I've done e-bikes, but nothing with the sidecar.
04:13It was effortless, really.
04:15I thought the stability would be weird.
04:17Because I've done cargo bikes before, and that kind of changes the whole balance of everything.
04:22It almost feels like I have to work harder.
04:25With this, no.
04:26Honestly, it made it more enjoyable.
04:28And then once we put it in turbo mode,
04:30the resistance at the start, once I got it going, it's super easy.
04:35Yeah, this is cool.
04:36Thanks for letting me check it out.
04:37I'm excited to give this a more in-depth test ride in the future,
04:40and maybe even try bringing along with me my two cats throughout New York City.
04:44But in the meantime, you can follow us everywhere at Tom's Guide for more awesome tech,
04:48and you can follow me to see all the other cool things I'm reviewing and testing out.
04:51Until the next one, I'll catch you later.
