00:00Number 1 contributor of ocean plastic pollution in the world is the Philippines, based on a study.
00:16That's why a solar-powered sea vessel that automatically collects garbage in the flowing water is a big help in Manila Bay.
00:25Come on, let's change the game!
00:30Every year, around 6 million tons of garbage flows into rivers and coastlines around the world.
00:37From here, up to 1.7 million tons reach the sea.
00:43The effect is a big threat to marine life and climate change.
00:47Not to mention, people are literally eating small particles of plastic or microplastics.
00:56To help with the increasing plastic waste crisis, the Circular Explorer was born.
01:04All the way from Germany, the solar-powered sea vessel was brought to the country to collect garbage in Manila Bay.
01:15All aboard the Circular Explorer! It's 12 meters long and 8 meters wide.
01:21It's also a one-of-a-kind sea vessel that can collect more than 4 tons of garbage per day.
01:28Come on, let's check it out!
01:31The sea vessel is 100% solar-powered and all of its parts are recyclable.
01:38It is technologically advanced. The entire roof can turn 360 degrees.
01:45And the solar panels can tilt towards the sun.
01:49This conveyor belt is the main part of this whole operation.
01:53This is the heart of the Circular Explorer.
01:56So right now, we can see the garbage going to the V-ship.
02:01It gathers and goes to the conveyor belt.
02:03It goes up to the sorting table to separate the garbage.
02:08So everything which is man-made or touched by mankind will be sorted out.
02:13And everything which is organic goes back into the water.
02:16In a year of collecting garbage, 40,000 kilos of garbage is removed by the group from Manila Bay.
02:24But wait, there's more!
02:26Because the Circular Explorer is also a sea-silvering research vessel,
02:30it has advanced built-in sensors that collect water samples.
02:35Their partner research team, the UP Marine Science Institute, is studying this.
02:41With the help of data, an effective solution to plastic waste can be created.
02:47This is the short term. We can get it, we can understand what reaches the sea.
02:52But we also want to start the concept of Circular Economist
02:57where what you use is only what is right.
03:03A true game changer in solving the ocean waste crisis.
03:07I hope our conscious effort to do our part can be accompanied.
03:11For GMA Integrated News, I'm Martin Aviar.
03:14Changing the game!
