00:00What was your thoughts of the real opening week of college football, which was this past weekend?
00:10Well, first of all, everything that I talked about in the column started to come true this past weekend with some terrific results.
00:19The USC victory was huge. Penn State going down to West Virginia was really impressive.
00:27LSU taking that loss, and then the Florida State taking that second loss. All these things add up to real significance now.
00:35Whereas before, you would just have erased somebody like a Florida State from the rest of this season that's over.
00:43They got nothing to play for but maybe making the Liberty Bowl or whatever.
00:47I mean, Florida State technically can still work their way back into it, and it's a huge mountain for them to climb
00:54because both of their losses were league losses, so it's going to be really hard for them to make it back.
01:00Or LSU. I mean, everybody's ready to write off Brian Kelly and the Tigers now because they lost that game.
01:06And it certainly hurts, and they got mad, and you saw Kelly pound the table and all that.
01:11But they can go into the SEC now, win the league, and make it to the playoff. It's still all out there for them.
01:17It doesn't have to be over because you stunk it up in one week. I think that's beautiful.
01:22The Florida State thing is fascinating on its own because of the fact that they're suing the ACC.
01:29Everybody in the league now dislikes them, if not more.
01:33I think they've become maybe the least popular college football team in America now.
01:39They're up there with Notre Dame. They're kind of fighting the Irish for that title.
01:44And the Irish, of course, they have basically a century of building toward this.
01:48Florida State got it done in six months. How about that?
01:52I mean, that's a real achievement, don't you think?
01:54Yeah, I mean to tell you. And I'll say one thing.
01:59I don't believe for one minute that you can lose two conference games to start your season when you're double-digit favorites
02:05and then have the schedule that they have left even in the ACC.
02:10There is no way in hell they're in that playoff. There is no way.
02:13Oh, it's not going to happen, but it's mathematically possible.
02:17No, it isn't. Not where I come from. I skipped that day of school.
02:21I am telling you, I'm from Mount Lebanon. That is not working. That math is not working for me.
