Ukraine’s school and a shelter in a metro station

Children in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv celebrated the start of the new school year underground – in improvised classrooms created in metro stations as shelter from Russian missiles.

Kharkiv's schools have been teaching online throughout the conflict as Russian missiles can reach the city in under a minute - not enough time to get from a classroom to a shelter.

Three more underground schools are being built, accommodating over 2,000 children.
