00:00As school bells chime, forces of law and order and transport agencies opt for a zero accident
00:26back to school. Regular checks on vehicles and the respect of the highway code will be done with
00:32rigor. A two-year-old baby dies in Bafosam after being thrown into the toilet of an orphanage.
00:40The accused, a 10-year-old girl and resident of the same orphanage, is in custody.
00:49Plus, the under-20 lionesses of Cameroon make a good debut at the FIFA Women's World Cup
00:55with a spirited 2-2 draw against Mexico. A development of these stories and more in the
01:02next 30 minutes. Good evening, dear viewers. Glad to have you on the 7.30 news with me,
01:10Uncle Lady, Raihana Tosali.
01:22The transport sector across the country is vibrating to the rhythm of school resumption.
01:29Most inter-urban transport agencies are opting for a zero accident back to school strategy
01:35as they serve the huge passenger demands from departure points to arrival.
01:40Regular checks on vehicles, the use of security cameras within and out of buses
01:45to monitor drivers on the highway and the general respect of the highway code constitute key points
01:51which managers hinge on. Alphonse Abongwa'achu made a tour of some agencies in Yaoundé and
01:57reports on the strategies they are employing to limit highway accidents this period. His report.
02:06Summer holidays ebb out. It's time to say goodbye, school is calling.
02:13I school in Gaoundé, Rai. I'm returning to prepare for school.
02:19Once on the bus, passengers, whether young or old, must keep to the rules.
02:35It's also time for brisk business in the inter-urban transport sector.
02:40At this agency, officials say lives have no duplicate, so no gambling on the highways.
02:51Our maintenance team has reviewed our equipment. We have done sensitization with our teams of
02:56Gaoundé, Rai, Yaoundé and Douala. They have aligned their aspirations to those of government,
03:03that of an accident-free back to school.
03:07Our wish is to do a zero accident, zero incident operation this back to school period.
03:16The eyes of the cameras are also watching attentively. Drivers have become even more
03:21vigilant. Some of these companies say despite the increase in passenger turnout,
03:27their fleet can meet the high demand.
03:30We have enough buses that can carry our passengers, because for now,
03:34we really have a lot of passengers that are travelling, who are travelling.
03:38Given that the bulk of work lies in the hands of drivers known as masters of the road,
03:44their well-being is also paramount to their employers and passengers.
03:49Enough resting days, we make sure that they rest very well. And there are two of them per bus,
03:55so they have three days, three days driving. After three days, he passes the bus to his colleague.
04:02Forces of law and order are also stationed in major checkpoints along
04:06these national routes to play their own part of the game.
04:12And Gendarmerie commanders of the centre, south and east regions are poised to apply the law
04:18on the respect of the highway code with rigor and vigilance so as to ensure a safe back to school
04:24in the conclave with transporters trade unions,
04:27they brainstormed on measures for an accident-free back to school. Gilbert Ongene reports.
04:33Statistics from the National Gendarmerie indicate that the month of August recorded
04:39a low rate of road accidents in the south, centre and east regions compared to past months.
04:45Gendarmerie officers of the 1st Gendarmerie Region and representatives of transporters
04:51trade unions want to maintain this trend at this back to school period.
04:55We plead and we sensitize all our comrades to respect rules and regulations so that we avoid
05:05road accidents within the back to school period.
05:08Sensitization campaigns will be intensified by the trade unions
05:12and Gendarmerie officers to this effect.
05:15The instructions are to avoid overload, respect the driver's rest time and to be careful in the
05:26road so all derogation will result in rigorous application of the law.
05:35As pupils and students get set to begin school come September 9th,
05:39Gendarmerie officers of the 1st Gendarmerie Region are working hand in hand with members
05:45of transporters trade unions of the centre, south and east regions to ensure that
05:50roads are safe to transport people and their property.
05:56Cocoa farmers in rural communities in the south region are all smiles this back to school period.
06:02These parents of students and pupils are approaching September 9th, the day of reopening
06:07with great serenity thanks to the recent boom in the prices of cocoa.
06:12Our reporter Clarence Azay went to Azem, a locality straight at five kilometers from
06:17Ebola to meet Jean-Pierre Sala, a farmer. Here's his report.
06:23It is in his cocoa plantation that we meet Jean-Pierre Sala and his family working under
06:29the pleasant morning breeze. This man in his 50s masters age-old cocoa harvesting techniques
06:36with precision with the price of a kilogram of the cash crop now selling at 5,000 francs.
06:42It is with a broad smile and great enthusiasm that Pierre Sala expresses the readiness of his
06:48children for the start of the school year. My children can already start school. This
06:53is the second harvest now and I'm so happy that the price of cocoa has hit 5,000 francs.
07:00From his plantation we follow Jean-Pierre to the Bulova Government Technical High School.
07:05He has come to finalize the registration of his children. After a visit to the principal's office,
07:11Jean-Pierre comes out visibly reassured. I've enrolled two children in lycée classique and two
07:18in lycée technique. The improvement in the price of cocoa has lessened the financial burden of the
07:25back to school period for many in the south region. During this same period years back,
07:32cocoa farmers will be coming around seeking back to school loans but now we are crossing
07:37this stage with relative ease. The parents are calm because they have almost everything set
07:45for a successful start of the school year thanks to the boom in the cocoa market.
07:52Some youths in Bafousam have benefited from back to school kits which are expected to go a long way
07:59to assist their parents in back to school preparations. These beneficiaries gathered
08:04from three subdivisions of the MIFI are trainees of the two-month useful holiday activity,
08:10an initiative of Professor Pascal Nguye-Kante, Deputy Secretary General at the Prime Minister's
08:15office. Kinge Anjelapa has the details from CRTV West in Bafousam. Some 97 children, participants
08:24of the two-month useful holiday activity coming from the three subdivisions of the MIFI have
08:31received school bags, books, shoes and other school items to help their parents in back to
08:37school preparations. These items which will permit them to embrace the upcoming school year with more
08:44serenity is the initiative of Professor Pascal Nguye-Kante, Deputy Secretary General at the
08:51Prime Minister's office. The 2024 useful holiday workshop was an opportunity to instill entrepreneurial
08:59values in these young Cameroonians who benefited training in digital technology, food and nutrition,
09:06culture, arts and crafts. Representing the promoter, his spouse Mrs Estelle Nguye-Kante handed over
09:14end-of-course certificates to the participants. The occasion, which the organizers say aligns with
09:21government's program to promote professional development, took place at the MIFI Youth and
09:27Community Center and was attended by a host of traditional and administrative authorities.
09:34And Muslim dignitaries in the northwest region have frowned at the fact that Muslims are still
09:39lagging behind in education to boost the numbers this year. They have made a huge donation of
09:45didactic material to orphans and award the prizes of excellence to students who excelled in the 2024
09:52session. Details with Mabel Mkemdi. It is the aching situation of Muslims who continue to pay
09:59little attention to education that is motivating the non-governmental organization Somda to push
10:06for more children in the community to go to school. But the level of schooling is really low
10:12because at the start almost 90 to 95 percent of children will go to school but as they are
10:20progressing before they reach class six their number has dropped and before they reach ordinary
10:26that's from five and opposite the situation is really different. Muslim dignitaries and
10:32leaders including the commander of the fifth gendarmerie region, Brigadier General Husseini
10:37Djibo, have affirmed that it also necessitates a lot of sensitization and motivational talks
10:44to push the Muslim children who are still under the pressure of early marriages and exclusive
10:49cattle rearing. 100 of those identified orphaned and needy in the community by Somda are each
10:56receiving a complete school kit and cash to smoothly begin school this coming year. I am
11:01very happy to this gift that Somda gives to us. It will help me in my secondary school. Those who
11:08excelled in the 2024 GCE session have also been recognized. I'm very thankful to the Muslim
11:14community for what they are doing, encouraging us and next time I'm going to do more. The clarion call
11:20here is for every child especially the Muslims to not be left behind this 2024.
11:36On to this disturbing news now, a two-year-old child in the Jeleng three district in Bafusam
11:43has died after being thrown into the toilet of an orphanage. The act was committed by a
11:4910-year-old girl, a resident of the same orphanage they accused is presently in custody at the
11:55National Fire Brigade in Bafusam. Details with Kingi Angelapa from CRTV West in Bafusam.
12:02Footage from surveillance cameras revealed to investigators from the Jeleng Gendarmerie Fire
12:09Brigade that on the 9th of August the 29th 2024, while the other residents of the Divine Providence
12:17Orphanage were distracted, a 10-year-old girl of the same orphanage takes out a two-year-old
12:23child through the window, drags her and throws her into the toilet. Alerted, the National Fire
12:30Brigade unit arrived at the scene but only in time to take out the lifeless body of the victim.
12:37According to the authorities of this orphanage harboring 28 children, the little girl perpetrator
12:44of this act who came in three months earlier is herself a victim of trauma after being continuously
12:51raped by four men in the Menwa Division. The Divisional Office of Bafusam 2 was present at
12:57the scene to make inquiries about the situation. Meanwhile, the company commander of the 52nd Fire
13:04Brigade in Bafusam, Charles Atangana, says the accused is in custody at the Jeleng Gendarmerie
13:11Fire Brigade as ordered by the prosecutor while the victim's body has been returned to the orphanage.
13:21A terrible scene indeed. A special weekend page spotlights on female entrepreneurs who are
13:28excelling in the fields of technology, aesthetics and food and beverage, running their businesses as
13:34a source of livelihood. They equally contribute to the country's economic development by creating jobs.
13:40They revealed their secrets to success to our reporter Solange Awas. She is a boss lady, Marie
13:49Louise, owner of a beauty center, specializes in training aspiring beauticians and also produces
13:56skincare products for all skin types. Since 2004, she has made a duty to treat carbuncles
14:03using the required equipments. She equally runs a well-furnished restaurant with a cozy interior
14:09designed at Bangkolo neighborhood. I was trained by my uncle who was a hairdresser. Today I manage
14:17a beauty parlor and along the line I decided to open up a restaurant.
14:21Our next stop is at an entrepreneur who has ventured into hairdressing, a passion
14:28she has had since childhood. She has impacted her knowledge of breeding, twisting and much more to
14:33over 25 ladies here at BMRC. Olive exhibits professionalism, paying keen attention to detail.
14:40With this, she's able to provide for her family. Being a mother and working for somebody doesn't
14:47work together, so I felt like if I start doing something on my own. We later head to Ahala
14:55where the brain behind the Glaston Academy is situated. The CEO of the digital center offers
15:01training in IT, programming, designs flyers for companies and has trained over 30 computer
15:07geniuses. We are here to provide solutions to companies or enterprises in the way that we help
15:14them to build their visibility. These future female business icons are convinced providing
15:22such facilities can help boost the economic development of the country. And the government
15:30of Cameroon continues to call on its youthful population to grab the many economic outreach and
15:36technically backed programs in place to pave the way for financial freedom through entrepreneurship,
15:42especially for women and girls. The ministries of youth affairs and civic education,
15:46small and medium-sized enterprises and women's empowerment and the family do not only run
15:53specialized training institutions for professional integration but as well give out financial
15:58assistance. Larry Nane-Sepote tells us more. Cameroonian women are increasingly interested
16:07in entrepreneurship because just like the other gender, they benefit assistance from government
16:12and its partners to ensure they promote their businesses and initiatives. The ministry of small
16:18and medium-sized enterprises has created a handful of projects where these women are being trained on
16:23how to present their finished products, create an attractive brand for themselves and even get
16:29exposure on the market space national and internationally. The ministry of small and
16:36medium-sized enterprises has come up with a project known as She Trades Out Look Cameroon,
16:40an initiative put in place by the international trade center and since 2020 we have been taking
16:46actions. The main objective is to promote competitiveness among enterprises owned by
16:51women and ensure their presence in the international market. The just-ended international arts fair
16:58organized in Yaoundé by the ministry of small and medium-sized enterprises was equally one of those
17:04market space where female entrepreneurs had an opportunity to promote their businesses and see
17:10b2b deals. The ministry of youth affair and civic education equally ensures these women entrepreneurs
17:17are closely followed up and awarded government grants. Some are beneficiaries of the special
17:22youth trainer plan. Young girls are today encouraged to their entrepreneurship. We have
17:30several projects like the youth connect, youth trainer plan and even national youth observatory
17:36where youth are oriented on different opportunities. We ensure the girls are particularly taken care of.
17:43Women empowerment and the family remains one of the ministries that goes beyond just supporting
17:49female entrepreneurs but mold them by educating them on different income generating activities
17:55which eventually transform most of them into successful entrepreneurs. Many initiatives
18:01are being supported by government to help these female entrepreneurs like the ministry of small
18:05and medium-sized enterprise support and finance initiatives such as tech women factory developed
18:11by kai's tea association to connect women to digital technology as well as mobilizes women
18:17every international women's entrepreneurship day to build their capacities and promote their
18:23initiatives. A similar activity will be heard this year from november 21 to 23 2024.
18:32Employees of the Cameroon real estate corporation have been held for working tirelessly for the
18:38progress of the corporation. Lebanese social security minister Gregor Wona was speaking
18:43during an event to hand over lemon medals to some meritorious workers of the institution.
18:48Romeo Kenya was there and now reports.
18:53There are more than 100 personnel of the Cameroon real estate corporation seek to receive labor
18:58medals. Over the years they have invested time and energy to ensure the corporation's growth.
19:04Among the recipients are some retirees. The labor medals handed range from gold to bronze.
19:10Labor and social security minister Gregor Wona while chairing the occasion encouraged the workers
19:15to continue displaying values of assiduity.
19:19I am thanking top management for my gold medal.
19:22It is a sign of recognition of my several years of input in the corporation.
19:30The director general of sick dr amadou sadahuna hinted that necessary measures are taken yearly
19:36to better employees working conditions. Meanwhile there are plans of constructing
19:41over 8 000 low-cost houses in the country's 10 regions by 2035.
19:47SICK largely organized labor medal awards in 2016.
19:54Local communities in Mayo-Kenya division far north region have been schooled on the need to
19:59get their rightful benefits from those who utilize their natural resources. This is in the course of
20:06a workshop spearheaded by the ministry of environment nature protection and sustainable
20:11development within the framework of a project which supports the implementation
20:15of the Nagoya protocol for smallholders. Henry Tatoi can be reports.
20:22One kilogram of the back of the plant pronus africana that sells at 600 cff friends in Boya
20:29is being used by a company to produce a drug against cancer and is sold at close to 500 000
20:36cff friends for the same quantity. That was one of the examples given in this workshop to show
20:43how local communities are being exploited and exploitation that can be stopped. It is expected
20:50through this project to increase the awareness of local communities about the Nagoya protocol.
20:57We need to engage ourselves on a sustainable use of melanitis and acacia. If these two species
21:08comes to disappear we think that we'll have environmental problem. The poverty will be
21:15increasing. Participants say they can already see their lives changing because of the knowledge
21:21gathered. We used to transform and sell locally but we have learned to sign partnership from
21:29those who come to get our resources so we can benefit more. It was also agreed that a reinforcement
21:36of sensitization of local communities was vital so they can get tangible benefits from their resources.
21:44A charity gala to raise funds to enable vulnerable and underprivileged children
21:51resume school history has been organized in Douala. The initiative is that of Coeur d'Ira
21:57association headed by Irene Mingole from Douala journalism student on internship Lovett Chine reports.
22:08Every child in Cameroon deserves quality education which is the reason the association
22:12Coeur d'Ira raised some funds during the gala night to help orphan children have access to
22:17schooling. The symbolism of this event is that we are on the eve of the start of the school year and
22:25as destitute people we know that they have needs and then with the current situation which is a
22:32little difficult even for those who have parents so we decided to help these children to support
22:40them for the start of the school year. The funds raised will be distributed to three different
22:45orphanages across the city of Douala. The event which is in its 11th edition was organized this
22:51August as supposed to October because of the urgent need for education for the kids.
22:58Retired police commissioner of exceptional class Samuel Misomba has been posthumously raised
23:05to the dignity of commander of the order of merit. The medal was placed on his casket
23:11by the senior divisional officer for Mungo Yves Betrandana during a funeral ceremony
23:17in his native Banoa village. Details with Elvis Teke. Clergymen of the native baptist church
23:25prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late police commissioner of exceptional class
23:31Samuel Misomba, one of Cameroon's pioneer police commissioners. The religious service to celebrate
23:38the life of the Christian who passed away at age 91 was followed by a recognition of the state.
23:46On behalf of the head of state the senior divisional officer for Mungo Yves Betrandana
23:53posthumously raised Samuel Misomba to the dignity of commander of the national order of merit.
24:02The secretary general of the general delegation for national security Dominic Mbaya in his eulogy
24:11described the following statesman as one of the key figures in the modernization of Cameroon's
24:17police force. He was also a disciplined and loving husband. He was a lovely man, he was strict,
24:26he was loyal and he was humble. He used to laugh with him, he was really strict.
24:39My dad was a great man, he loves his job, he was always wake up at five o'clock
24:47and to prepare himself to go to work. Police commissioners who formed the cream of the core
24:53conveyed the casket of the late Samuel Misomba to his final resting place at the family tomb
25:00in his native Banao village where he will rest for eternity.
25:07A Cameroonian fashion collection honoring the memories of those who endured unimaginable
25:13hardships during the slave trade era will be showcased at the Grand 2024 New York Fashion
25:19Week on September 11, 2024. The seasoned fashion designer Kibonen Fee will unveil her latest
25:28collection Bimbia 2 at the Chelsea Factory United States. Journalism students on internship in a
25:34phone conversation with the designer captured how she's been preparing for the big day.
25:41Cameroonian fashion designer Kibonen Fee who first wowed the New York Fashion Week as a student in
25:472014 returns this September to showcase part two of her Bimbia collection. It's exactly 10 years
25:54and I'm doing New York Fashion Week now as a brand which needs to grow. We're very excited,
26:00the preparations have been very intense, we've been preparing for like the past three months now.
26:05Sharing the stage with fashion icons, her designs blend traditional Cameroonian elements with
26:10contemporary flair with every stitch telling rich African stories. Bimbia 2 is actually a
26:17recollection of before colonialism so pre-colonial Africa, who were we, what did we wear, how did we
26:24live our lives about and I just called it Bimbia because Bimbia for me is that part of no return
26:29in Cameroon and anything to do with slavery, slave trade before, slave trade for me I just
26:37refer back to Bimbia and also because Bimbia is a very unexploited place. Her creations have
26:43captivated global stars like Lupita Nyong'o and Gayle King. As she prepares for this milestone,
26:50Kibonen remains dedicated to elevating the Cameroonian fashion industry
26:54on the world stage because fashion is her passion.
26:58Our artist of the week is Ruben Binambico, a talented pianist, producer, composer
27:08and entrepreneur born into a family of music connoisseurs, inspired him to have his own
27:14music group, the KEM87. Emma Tauwe provided him for the 730 News.
27:19He is one of the best in his generation, passionate, skillful and creative are words that best describe one of Cameroon's pride, the pianist Ruben Binambico.
27:39Founder of the group KEM87 and with more than three decades of experience, his inspiration
27:46stems from great African and world-class musical legends like the late Manu Dibango.
27:52I discovered an album, Piano Solo Melody African. This album changed my approach
27:59from classic piano to African music through piano and I've been also inspired by Francis
28:04Bebe and Duke Ellington. A virtuoso whose diversity is a plus in his artwork.
28:17Ruben asserts digitalization is an asset for today's artist, adding that he has produced several artists.
28:34The exceptional pianist is proud of his contributions to Cameroon's unique musical
28:40touch and aims to continuously groom excellence in the industry. Promoting arts in general,
28:46not only music but also photography. Ruben Binamb insists that mastering one's art is an
28:54indispensable skill that leads to engraving a lasting footprint in the entertainment industry.
29:02In sports, Cameroon has marked their FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup debut with a spirited
29:132-2 draw against Mexico in their Group A opener in Colombia. Cameroon's Under-20
29:18lioness is now sit second in the group thanks to a praise from her striker
29:23and woman of the match Naomi Eto'o, head coach Hassan Bala and his girls Woodnecks meet host
29:29country Colombia for their day-two outing. Cyril Nwazeki has highlights of the Cameroon
29:35versus Mexico game.
29:40Naomi Eto'o, Naomi Eto'o again. Twice commentators shouted her name after her double which leveled
29:47scores in the tie against experienced team Mexico. She wins the woman of the match player
29:53after helping Cameroon impose a draw game in their first outing
29:57at the ongoing Under-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia. The first segment of the game
30:02had Colombia pressing and even going on to open scores in the third minute.
30:08Naomi Eto'o in the 23rd minute tried retaliating but met the woodwork.
30:18Team Mexico mounted pressure on the lionesses and got the second goal in the 40th minute.
30:25In the second half it was Cameroon's turn to shine. For a first experience girls of coach
30:31Hassan Bala began to roll and wonderfully reduced tally by a 52nd minute goal from Naomi Eto'o.
30:38Naomi Eto'o again after a beautifully taken free kick by Lamimana stretched and beautifully sent
30:56the Mexican keeper into her net for the lionesses second goal.
31:09The Under-20 lionesses therefore impose a 2-2 draw to Mexico and sit second in group A
31:18with one point. Their next game comes up on Wednesday September 4
31:23against host country Colombia as from 1 48 a.m.
31:28And it's a wrap for the 7.30 crew. Thank you so much for being with us and to have a wonderful night.
31:58you
