00:00These are unidentified flying objects.
00:31Are they proof that we are being visited by civilizations from other stars?
00:44Or just what are they?
01:00This is a story of a young man who discovered the universe with his own eyes.

04:30I hope you can help me a great deal, Sergeant. I'm Captain Ryan.
04:34How do you do, sir? This is Libby Verden.
04:37Miss Verden?
04:38I'm happy to know you, sir, and my name is Libby.
04:41I know it is. Miss Verden?
04:49Is that my office?
04:50Yes, sir.
04:54Will you bring in file 12008? And Miss Verden, I'd like a cup of coffee, please.
04:58A small cube of sugar, one ounce of milk. Always.
05:04Is 12008 the file of...
05:06The female pile at Colorado Springs.
05:15Thank you, Sergeant. Any opinion on this?
05:18I certainly think it's worth an investigation, sir.
05:21Why?
05:22Seems to me Miss Galloway is a fairly qualified observer. Several hundred hours in the air.
05:26Captain Moran's also a qualified observer. Several thousand in the air. He didn't see a thing.
05:30I believe those circumstances were explained, sir.
05:39Miss Verden, you brewed this coffee about 0900 hours?
05:42Almost exactly then, yes, sir.
05:44After two hours, the oils in coffee begin to congeal.
05:48It's not the bitter taste as much as it's bad for the duodenum.
05:51From now on, make as much as necessary, but make it more often.
05:54Yes, sir.
05:57So you accept Miss Galloway's explanation of why she was the only witness?
06:00Seems reasonable. Visibility from the back seat is so poor.
06:03Did you read her personnel file from Pikes Peak College?
06:06Yes, sir. I studied it very carefully.
06:08So Kay Galloway's statement is impressive enough for you to recommend that we spend the taxpayer's monies investigating her story?
06:14Especially when the security risks are considered.
06:16It'd be in a restricted flight over a military operating area.
06:21No red, an aerospace defense command right there.
06:24I do too, sergeant.
06:26It's difficult to see from the back seat of a T-34. I've been there a few times.
06:29And that girl's statement sounds honest.
06:32In that case, sir, I did put a hold on two seats on a MAX C-141 to Denver.
06:36Departure time not definite.
06:38I checked with base office. We can take off as soon as you're ready.
06:41Take me about 20 minutes, sir, to throw some things in the B-4 bag.
06:44I'm quartered here at the base, sir.
06:46You don't keep a bag here packed and ready?
06:48No, sir. I will from now on, sir.
06:52Meet you at base ops in 45 minutes.
06:54I can make it 30 minutes total, sir.
06:56When will you get a haircut?
06:58Yes, sir.
07:02On the way, Liv. See you sometime.
07:04Hey, Harry.
07:05I'm in a hurry.
07:08It has been a tradition at Pikes Peak College since its founding
07:11that the students maintain their own disciplinary boards,
07:14a tradition maintained through many social changes,
07:17including the admission of women.
07:19The cornerstone of a student's code of honor is his honesty and integrity.
07:23Telling the truth about an act is as important as the act itself.
07:27This hearing is formally open.
07:29For the record, the Pikes Peak College Honor Board
07:31has been convened to consider the case of Miss Kaye Galloway,
07:34member of the senior class,
07:36accused of making a false report in regard to a federal statute,
07:40namely, violating restricted airspace
07:42over certain U.S. government installations
07:44in and around Colorado Springs, Colorado.
07:47Miss Galloway, would you care to make a statement?
07:49Yes.
07:51I would like to make a statement.
07:53Miss Galloway, you have the right to remain silent.
07:56Miss Galloway, would you care to make a statement?
07:58Yes. Of course I would.
08:01Last Thursday, April 4th,
08:04the second day of spring break,
08:06as a member of the College Aviation Society,
08:09I was scheduled for a Czech flight in the T-34
08:12by an FAA-certified Czech pilot,
08:15Captain Frederick Moran, from Colby Air Base.
08:18Miss Galloway, I believe I'm the only member of this board
08:22who is not a member of the Aviation Society.
08:25I'd just like to ask what experience you've had in the air.
08:29I have more than 300 hours.
08:32The courses I've taken here for credit
08:34include navigation and meteorology.
08:38You transferred here as a junior, didn't you?
08:40Yes, Mr. Higbee.
08:42My junior year.
08:44From?
08:46The Air Force Academy.
08:48Just why did you leave, Miss Galloway?
08:50I resigned.
08:53The details of your resignation may become germane,
08:56and if we decide they are, we'll get into them.
08:58Please go on.
09:01I met Captain Moran at the flight line.
09:06Morning, Galloway.
09:07Morning, sir.
09:09You all set?
09:10I think so, sir.
09:13You happen to check the weather?
09:15Certainly, Captain.
09:16Pressure's 30.04, dropping, high scattered,
09:19visibility 40 miles.
09:21What's known as a nice day to go up into the wild blue yonder.
09:25Let's do it.
09:37Galloway, how'd you manage to build up so many hours?
09:40You have more than anybody in college, haven't you?
09:43Well, my father was a pilot.
09:45Oh, really?
09:46What did he fly?
09:48P-51, in olden days.
09:50He taught me to solo in a Stearman.
09:53Where is he now?
09:55He was doing some bush pilot work up in Alaska.
09:58Crashed flying medicine into a little town during a snowstorm.
10:02I'm sorry.
10:04You interested in making flying a career?
10:06Not interested.
10:08Determined.
10:10Someday I'm going to be a commercial pilot.
10:12Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking,
10:15not your stewardess.
10:18Good luck, Galloway.
10:20Fight the battle.
10:21I will, sir.
10:32November 3-11 Hotel,
10:34you're cleared to the outer ramp from present position
10:36to runway 3-5-35.
10:38Cleared to taxi.
10:40Hold clear of the active. Over.
10:42Roger, Colby. N-3-11-H out of the chocks.
10:48Okay, Galloway, after gear retraction,
10:50we milk the flaps only after climb speed
10:52and aircraft altitude are established.
10:55Climb power set.
10:57We keep the aircraft trimmed constantly
10:59for as nearly a hands-off flight as possible.
11:02You keep track of your instruments,
11:04and I'll keep track of you.
11:06Roger, sir.
11:08All right, Galloway.
11:10All right, Galloway.
11:12All right, Galloway.
11:15You keep track of your instruments
11:17and what's going on outside the aircraft.
11:19A mid-air collision can just ruin your whole day.
11:22Yes, sir.
11:31November 3-11 Hotel, cleared to take off.
11:35Okay, you take her, Galloway.
11:37You're heading up to 280 and start climbing
11:39at 800 feet a minute.
11:41Level out at 11,000.
11:43Yes, sir.
11:51All right, Galloway, I'll take her.
11:53Give me an idea of what you can do.
11:55I'm going into a split S.
11:57I'm going into a split A.
11:59I'm going into a split B.
12:01I'm going into a split C.
12:03I'm going into a split F.
12:05When we pull out, we'll feel about 2 1⁄2 Gs.
12:08Yes, sir.
12:22You keep your head on a swivel, Galloway.
12:25You can see 99% better than I can straight ahead.
12:28I know that, sir.
12:30You take her, Galloway.
12:34You know all the restricted flight areas
12:36over NORAD and Aerospace Defense Command installations?
12:39Certainly do, sir.
12:43Wow, what is that?
12:45What's what? Where?
12:47Straight ahead.
12:49It looks like a flying saucer.
12:55Galloway, I don't see a thing.
12:57Are you sure you're all right?
12:59Captain, I see it.
13:01I see it.
13:21Galloway, I don't see anything.
13:23Captain, 12 o'clock, a little high.
13:28Where is it? Where is it?
13:30I don't know.
14:01All right, let go. Let me have the controls.
14:03No!
14:31Hey, you trying to kill us?
14:33Give me those controls.
14:42Where is it?
15:01Okay, now where is it?
15:17You saw a UFO, and you buzzed restricted areas
15:20because you were chasing a UFO.
15:22Yes, sir, I did.
15:24Although Captain Moran never saw it
15:26after searching the area with you,
15:28and no one on the ground did.
15:30I would hope, sir, that there were other witnesses.
15:33Well, nobody's aware of any,
15:35and wouldn't your instructor be the logical witness
15:38to corroborate your story?
15:40There is no visibility straight ahead
15:42from that instructor's seat.
15:44Miss Galloway, we've heard in great detail
15:46about this UFO.
15:48Would you like to add anything to your version?
15:52No.
15:54Then I'd like to have you comment on a statement that you made.
15:57Pardon me, that you were alleged to have made
15:59at last month's meeting of the Aviation Society.
16:01What statement was that?
16:03That you were sick and tired
16:05of the problems women were having getting into the society,
16:08and that you could fly the pants off any man here,
16:11and that pretty soon you're going to prove it.
16:13Hmm?
16:28You see, I'm active in the Air National Guard.
16:31On my days off, I, uh, instruct a bunch of students
16:34who go to Pikes Peak College,
16:36fly through their Aviation Society program.
16:38It's a darn good one.
16:40Men and women?
16:42Yeah, about, uh, 20 total.
16:44Only two girls.
16:46As of now, just one too many.
16:48Then you don't believe her story?
16:50No way, Captain.
16:53She must have been a capable boy.
16:55She must have been a capable pilot, sir.
16:58You wouldn't have let her take over the controls.
17:00You're absolutely right, Sergeant.
17:02Potentially, she was a fine pilot.
17:04Technically, she was excellent.
17:06Of course, I wouldn't turn over the controls
17:08of a plane that I'm responsible for to a dodo.
17:11And what do you think she saw?
17:14Not a reflection, not a balloon,
17:17nothing meteorological, no hallucination.
17:20In short, she didn't see a thing.
17:23Then why?
17:25Well, look, she's going to a very tough college.
17:28And she's working her behind off, I can tell you that.
17:31She's on a scholarship, a hardship case.
17:33Her father's not living.
17:35Captain Moran, report to the flight line, please.
17:38I hear you.
17:41So there she was.
17:43Spring vacation.
17:45Perfect day for flying.
17:47When she got back into the cockpit of that plane,
17:49she was like a little kid with a new toy, right?
17:52So instead of rapture of the deep,
17:54it was rapture of the sky.
17:56That's exactly right, Sergeant.
17:58All of a sudden, she just wanted to let it all hang out.
18:02That's me.
18:04She just made up that UFO to justify it.
18:23That could be good timing.
18:25We could get most of our interviews in
18:27before the people get back from vacation.
18:29Yes, sir.
18:31Mighty pretty campus, isn't it, sir?
18:33Like Hunter J.C.?
18:35How'd you know I went to Hunter J.C., sir?
18:37Make it a point to find out something.
18:39I'm not going to tell you.
18:41I'm not going to tell you.
18:43I'm not going to tell you.
18:45I'm not going to tell you.
18:47I'm not going to tell you.
18:49I'm going to tell you.
18:51Make it a point to find out something
18:53about the people I'm working with, Sarge.
18:58Miss Galloway?
19:00Captain Ryan?
19:02How do you do? This is Sergeant Fitz.
19:04How are you, ma'am?
19:06Hello.
19:08Thanks for seeing us on such short notice,
19:10but we have to drive over to Colorado Springs
19:12and touch base with NORAD,
19:14and they said 1,500 hours sharp.
19:16You mean NORAD's radar picked up the UFO?
19:18No.
19:20It's not because of any consequence
19:22in this particular region.
19:24It's simply a question of violation
19:26of their restricted airspace.
19:28But, uh, you wouldn't be coming here so quickly,
19:30both of you.
19:32I mean, you wouldn't be talking with me
19:34if you didn't believe me, would you?
19:38We believe that a relatively qualified observer
19:40like you probably saw something.
19:42We're trying to determine what.
19:44And if it wasn't what you thought you saw,
19:46to try to figure out what it really was.
19:48I saw a flying saucer
19:50for maybe
19:52almost three minutes.
19:54Mind if we use the tape recorder, ma'am?
19:56No.
19:58Of course not.
20:02How close did you get to it?
20:04The original report just said that you pursued it
20:06and that you tried to bank the plane
20:08so that Captain Moran could see it, too.
20:10Uh...
20:12maybe 200 yards.
20:14It, uh...
20:16It dropped down over that ridge
20:18and along that valley.
20:20Maybe I got within
20:22100 yards.
20:24Captain, we were
20:26hitting 150 knots,
20:28and I was kind of excited.
20:30So I'm not
20:32really positive about everything.
20:34That close, Miss Galloway?
20:36What kind of turbulence did you get from the UFO?
20:38Did you get into its vortex?
20:40No turbulence.
20:42I remember thinking
20:44the air should get rough any minute,
20:46but it never did.
20:48How do you think the UFO was powered?
20:50Not by anything I've ever seen.
20:52We don't have engines or aircraft
20:54that can do anything like it did.
20:56It seemed to almost tease us.
21:14What do you think it was doing?
21:16Captain, I've tried to answer that
21:18ever since it happened.
21:20Observing us,
21:22taking pictures of the only plane in the area,
21:24coming close enough
21:26to get scientific readings.
21:28You say there was no turbulence in the air
21:30when it made that pass along the deck.
21:32Did you notice any effect
21:34on the vegetation?
21:36I didn't notice any wake or anything like that.
21:38Uh, I don't know.
21:40I don't know.
21:42Nothing like that.
21:44I was keeping my eyes on it, after all.
21:46The T-34 wasn't affected
21:48in any time?
21:50The instrument's all normal?
21:52She flew like a dream.
21:56Have you always been
21:58interested in UFOs, Miss Galloway?
22:00Well, until this, I wasn't any more
22:02or any less interested than the next person.
22:06Well, thank you very much for your time.
22:08May we talk to you again?
22:10Anytime, Captain.
22:12I'll call you right after I see General Whitacombe.
22:14Could you do something for us if you have the time?
22:16I'll try. I've got lots of time now.
22:18Just a make-up class.
22:20Could you draw us some pictures?
22:22Diagrams. Very simple, of what the craft looked like.
22:24I did.
22:26That afternoon.
22:28Well, after all the flap after we landed,
22:30when I went back to my room,
22:32I thought, while everything was still fresh
22:34in my mind, I ought to.
22:36I sketched about half a dozen.
22:38They're in the dorm now.
22:40We'll pick them up when we talk to you later.
22:42Fine. Captain Ryan,
22:44are you going to make your findings
22:46available to the review board,
22:48whatever they turn out to be?
22:50No. These go back to Wright-Patterson
22:52Foreign Technology Division for evaluation.
22:54Oh, good. I thought maybe...
22:56I think you ought to know, Miss Galloway,
22:58that we will be talking to several of your peers,
23:00and I'm sure that one or two of them will be on the board.
23:02Your class honor representative, um...
23:04Roland Higby, isn't it, ma'am?
23:06I don't understand
23:08why you have to do that.
23:10People who've known you, who can make a judgment about you.
23:12Oh.
23:14Higby can make a judgment, all right.
23:16Listen, Captain Ryan,
23:18I washed out at the academy,
23:20and, uh, that was a judgment call.
23:22In my opinion, could have gone either way.
23:24I've been in hot water
23:26a couple of times here at the college,
23:28and I'm not the most intelligent
23:30in my class,
23:32and I admit I'd rather fly than eat.
23:34But I did see
23:36that UFO.
23:38Right along there.
23:44Thank you again, Miss Galloway.
23:52Mr. Higby.
23:54Yes, sir.
23:56Captain, uh, Ryan.
23:58Sergeant Fitzeneyer with Blue Book.
24:00I think the dean's office informed you we'd like to talk to you.
24:02Yes, sir. Is it convenient now?
24:04If it is for you.
24:06Excuse us, gentlemen.
24:14After all, Captain, a record speaks for itself, doesn't it?
24:16Well, what we'd like from you
24:18is your personal evaluation.
24:20Off the record?
24:22I'm sorry, Mr. Higby.
24:24This will be for background, if you request.
24:26It doesn't matter, Captain.
24:28I'm sure you know she had to leave the Air Force Academy.
24:30I know her background very thoroughly, Mr. Higby.
24:32But this interview is for your own
24:34personal opinion of her.
24:36Well, I just wanted to point out her,
24:38let's say, off-center personality.
24:40Being good enough to be appointed
24:42to the Academy is off-center?
24:44Top ten percent of the nation?
24:46To get to specifics,
24:48do you think Miss Galloway
24:50has been lying about this experience?
24:52Yes, I do.
24:54Even though your own board of inquiry
24:56has not heard all the evidence in the case.
24:58In my personal opinion, and I'm giving it,
25:00yes, she's lying. In my personal opinion.
25:02And if the board brings in that verdict,
25:04she'll have to leave school?
25:06Of course.
25:08Thank you very much for talking to us, Mr. Higby.
25:10Glad to, Captain.
25:12As long as this is for background.
25:14May I tell you something?
25:16You have proved the whole thing's a hoax?
25:18No.
25:20We can't evaluate until all the evidence is in.
25:22I just wanted to say
25:24that I think some of your prejudices are showing.
25:26In my personal opinion.
25:40Kay!
25:42Hi.
25:44How are you?
25:46I heard about your hassle.
25:48Then you know.
25:50When will you hear?
25:52A few days, they said.
25:54Everything's gonna be okay.
25:56I have a good feeling.
25:58All I can say, the vibes aren't too good.
26:00But I'm certainly going to fight
26:02to stay in here.
26:04Now.
26:06Great timing, huh?
26:08My day for flight check and a UFO has to show up.
26:10Hey, I believe you.
26:12Thanks.
26:14What'd you do during vacation?
26:16Did you get that backpacking in?
26:18Oh, yes. All alone.
26:20Weather was great.
26:22I'm taking this summer.
26:26Hey, listen, Kay.
26:28Everything's gonna be all right.
26:30Higby may think he runs his student body,
26:32but he can't win them all.
26:34That's just part of it, Doug.
26:36Even if I beat this one,
26:38it's on my flying record.
26:40I mean, people think
26:42that anyone who's seen a UFO
26:44is automatically a wacko.
26:46I really want to get my commercial license,
26:48but if I hallucinate it in the air,
26:50boy, I've got psychological problems.
26:54I'm late for lab.
26:56Kay.
26:58Hang in there, huh?
27:00Yeah.
27:02I'll hang in there.
27:04Bye-bye.
27:16Final radar reports are all negative, Colonel.
27:18There's no confirmation by any aircraft in the area.
27:20Very improbable.
27:22It could be a weather or research balloon
27:24or meteorological phenomena.
27:26No, sir.
27:28Well, she drew five.
27:30Very detailed. I put them on the transmitter.
27:32The only unusual feature
27:34is some kind of bulge or bump on the perimeter.
27:36Fine, sir. I'll call you tomorrow.
27:38Goodbye.
27:42Final batch of the aerial photos, Sergeant.
27:44Thanks a lot.
27:48Anything?
27:50Besides the shots of the three humanoids
27:52looking outside of the cave?
27:54Three? Shoot.
28:00Going to set up a ground search, Captain?
28:02Think there's any reason to?
28:04Not from anything I've spotted yet.
28:06Sergeant.
28:08This bulge,
28:10whatever it is she drew on this thing,
28:12ring any bells?
28:14I don't recall anything just yet.
28:16I don't recall anything just like that
28:18in any of the cases I've been on, sir.
28:20Or read about.
28:22Me either. When do we see her tomorrow?
28:24After her last class. 1530 hours, sir.
28:26That's good coffee.
28:28Thanks, Sergeant.
28:30It's all in the recipe, sir.
28:32Freshly brewed, one small sugar.
28:34One ounce of milk always.
28:36Butter for the duodenum.
28:42Captain Ryan, yes?
28:46No, obviously this isn't something
28:48to talk about on the telephone.
28:50Um, where can I meet you?
28:58Captain Ryan?
29:00Hi, I'm Doug Detweiler.
29:02How are you, Doug?
29:04I'm glad you could come.
29:06Glad to. It sounded important.
29:10Boy, these thunderstorms really come up
29:12out of nowhere, don't they?
29:14Had to fly around a few in my time up here.
29:20Captain Ryan, this is going to sound
29:22awfully far out, I guess.
29:24And I don't know
29:26what you guys can make of all the information,
29:28but, uh...
29:30Doug, why don't you just start
29:32from the beginning?
29:34I should have said something
29:36when I got back from vacation.
29:38But the first thing I heard was everyone saying
29:40that she'd be asked to leave school,
29:42that she had a hallucination.
29:44So I waited.
29:46Then I realized the longer I waited,
29:48the worse it would look, as if I was coming forward
29:50just to lie for her, especially since we're friends.
29:54Actually, we're good friends.
29:56Kay is really the first
29:58serious girl that, uh...
30:02Doug, what are you trying to say?
30:06Vacation.
30:08I didn't go home this year.
30:10I didn't get a chance to go backpacking for a long time.

33:40I really don't know how long I was there.
33:42Five minutes, fifteen.
33:44But I do know it was there, Captain.
33:46Even if I didn't get any pictures.
33:48I realize all you've got is my word.
33:53So you're worried if you tell the board all this,
33:55that you'll be in the same jeopardy she's in.
33:57Lack of psychological fitness.
33:59I know I will.
34:00And that's okay, I'll take my chances.
34:02The worst part of it is, when I do come forward,
34:04the guys on the board will just assume that I'm lying for her.
34:08Where does that leave us?
34:10I mean, where does that leave Kay?
34:12I can't say. I know where it leaves me.
34:14Where's that?
34:16With a lot of investigating to do.
34:31Some rain we had last night,
34:33but it sure didn't do much damage up here.
34:42Well, it looks like we got a washout.
34:44Well, it looks like we got a washout.
34:46This is the end of the line.
34:48Interesting drawings you made for us.
34:52Oh, are they like hers?
34:54Oh, did she tell you she made some?
34:57No, I just figured if you asked me, you'd ask her.
35:00Are they like hers?
35:02Not exactly.
35:10How long have you known Miss Galloway?
35:12Oh, we went to high school together.
35:14And then she got admitted to the academy
35:17and washed out after three years.
35:20She came back here as a junior
35:22and we sort of picked up where we left off.
35:24Only a little more friendly.
35:26How did she describe the UFO to you?
35:28She never did, really.
35:30You must have talked to her about the sighting.
35:32No, not really.
35:34By the time I got back from vacation,
35:36she was up to here with the whole thing
35:38and she just didn't want to talk about it.
35:40I felt kind of funny, too, with the whole situation.
35:43The reprimand by the board.
35:45She'd really been put through a wringer.
35:47And if she's found unfit for further pilot training,
35:50I don't know, she's got her heart set
35:52on going into commercial aviation as a woman pilot.
35:55When does the board bring in its decision, do you know?
35:58Now that I've asked to testify,
36:00it's going to stretch things out.
36:02I don't know.
36:04Well, let's go.
36:06It's about half a mile up the canyon.
36:08Sorry it's so primitive.
36:10Mr. Detweiler, I don't know why it is,
36:12but I've never been lucky enough
36:14to investigate a UFO
36:16that landed on a penthouse terrace.
36:30Like I said about those penthouse landings,
36:32they all seem to want to land in this kind of country.
36:38
36:48
36:58I just developed me a whole new respect
37:01for those Canadian log rolls.
37:03
37:14Here, Sergeant, let me give you a hat.
37:16Thank you, sir.
37:18Thank you very much indeed.
37:20I needed that.
37:26Captain, I have no idea what material it was made out of,
37:29how heavy the metal was,
37:31if it was light or even if it was metal.
37:33Any ordinary aircraft that size
37:35would have to weigh tons, I guess.
37:37An electrometer can give us a pretty good idea
37:39of how firm the ground's been compressed.
37:41Well, I set up camp by a little pond,
37:43and when I was filling up my canteen...
37:53Right there.
37:55It landed right there.
37:57Looks like last night's rain flooded the area.
38:00Look, my towel's still in the tree.
38:06You believe me, don't you?
38:10Mr. Deadweiler, nobody can prove you didn't see something.
38:16But I don't know any way now to prove that you did.
38:19
38:35Why did you wait so long to come forward, Mr. Deadweiler?
38:39I made a mistake.
38:41Her sighting was the main topic of conversation
38:43the minute I got in,
38:45and the rumor was strong that she would be asked to leave college.
38:48So you've had plenty of time
38:50to learn what her description of the UFO was.
38:52Is that how you can describe
38:54what you allegedly saw the same way?
38:56I didn't allegedly see anything.
38:58I saw the UFO which I described
39:00up by Terrial Creek.
39:04Any further questions, gentlemen?
39:12Now?
39:18
39:34This honor board does not have the power
39:36to compel a student to resign.
39:38However, we are sending a unanimous recommendation
39:40to the dean of students that both of you
39:42be asked to withdraw from Pikes Peak College.
39:45I want to know exactly what rights I have to appeal.
39:48Both of you will be informed
39:50of all of your legal rights and options
39:52in the several types of separation from this institution.
39:58This honor board is now adjourned.
40:04
40:15Captain, I'm the first to admit
40:17that UFOs isn't my field of study,
40:19but I see significant differences
40:21in their two sets of drawings.
40:23Well, there are differences, sir,
40:25but we don't think they're significant.
40:27It's the similarities that we found to be remarkable.
40:30And, sir, that probe, that appendage,
40:32is not in most of the classic UFO sightings.
40:35Don't they both describe its color quite differently?
40:38Perceptions. Sir, she saw it air-to-air.
40:41Detweiler saw it in the air.
40:43We saw it air-to-air. Detweiler saw it ground-to-air.
40:46We've learned to be very suspicious
40:48when different witnesses do agree
40:50on small details as if it's rehearsed.
40:54I feel very ambivalent about the whole case.
40:57I'm very grateful for you letting me see
40:59everything that you found,
41:01but there's one point in her story
41:03I just can't buy, Captain.
41:05Kay Galloway says that she saw the UFO
41:07right over this area,
41:09a whole military communications complex,
41:11and not one person on the ground saw it.
41:13You told me yourself, sir,
41:15that you went to the window when you heard the buzzing.
41:18And I didn't see the UFO either.
41:20What were you looking at?
41:22I wondered what dumbbell was flying so low.
41:24I wanted to identify the plane.
41:29I see what you mean, Captain.
41:31See, I think it's natural for anybody
41:33to look up at the sound of the plane,
41:35and as you say, sir, try to get that plane's I.D.
41:38Strictly off the record,
41:41what do you think really happened?
41:45Sir, on the record right now,
41:47but subject to change.
41:49Both of these sightings are considered
41:51to be unknowns.
42:08Miss Galloway, Mr. Detweiler,
42:10I don't want to drag this proceeding out
42:12any further than it's already gone.
42:14I know you've both lived with it
42:16for three long weeks.
42:18I also realize that most students
42:20naturally assume that if you're brought up in charges,
42:23you're guilty until proven innocent.
42:25I've always tried to give anyone
42:27the benefit of reasonable doubt.
42:29Therefore...
42:31I would like to ask you
42:33if you would be so kind
42:35Therefore...
42:37I do not accept the recommendation
42:39of the Honor Board.
42:41You are both to remain in good standing,
42:43your scholarship grants in force,
42:45and all charges dismissed.
42:49Thank you, sir.
42:51Thank you very much, sir.
42:54With one consideration.
42:57What's that, sir?
42:59When you have a little time,
43:01I'd like you both to tell me personally
43:04what it was like.
43:20Kay, Doug, we just stopped by to say so long.
43:22We're back to right pat tomorrow.
43:24Oh, we can never thank you enough, Captain Ryan.
43:27Sergeant Fitz.
43:29You know, if it weren't for you two,
43:31nobody would have thought
43:33Oh, we never said there was.
43:35All I know is that Sergeant Fitz and I
43:37are gonna consider it, or them,
43:39an unknown.
43:40Well, thank you sincerely,
43:42whatever it is officially.
43:44Bye now. Take care.
43:46How about a walk around the block?
43:48Talk me into it.
43:58How can anybody who hasn't seen one understand?
44:01I may not have gotten any pictures,
44:03but there were plenty of pictures being taken.
44:06By whom?
44:08By them.
45:01
45:31You never mentioned that.
45:33I did tell Captain Ryan.
45:35Nobody else asked.
45:37Kay, I thought,
45:39why not leave well enough alone?
45:42
46:01Welcome back, Captain Ryan.
46:03It's good to be back, Miss Verden.
46:05Everything under control?
46:07Lots of paperwork, sir.
46:09I've tried to collate it on your desk.
46:12How you doing, Harry?
46:14Another day in the Air Force,
46:16another 2,000 miles.
46:22Fresh, sir.
46:24Nice blouse.
46:26Sergeant Fitz.
46:28Sergeant Fitz.
46:32Yes, sir?
46:34Some of this requires our immediate attention.
46:36Fine, sir.
46:38Starting with this.
46:41Promotion came through.
46:43Congratulations, Tech Sergeant.
46:45Why, sir. Thank you, sir.
46:47You earned it, Sergeant. Remember that.
46:49Indeed I will.
46:51How's the coffee, sir?
46:53I know Libby's really trying.
46:55Right on the button.
46:57How do you know so much about coffee?
46:59I'm a close friend of Juan Valdez.
47:01Juan Valdez.
47:03He's that fellow on the TV commercials
47:05that grows coffee down in South America
47:07and picks the beans and...
47:09Yes, Harry, I know.
47:11Sure you do.
47:13Tell Matt he's got a real sense of humor.
47:15And he's changed.
47:17Like I said, a regular pussycat, Libby.
47:19A pussycat.
47:21Morning.
47:23Morning, Captain.
47:25You sound like Captain Kangaroo.
47:30Aren't you about due for a haircut?
47:37Meow.
47:55Meow.
