00:00There was a big cohort of steers through the ring at the Royal Adelaide Show, vying for a share in more than
00:05$35,000 of prize money as part of the show's steer competition.
00:09The more than 250 steers went under the watchful eye of Judge Shad Paley.
00:15I looked for big stocks in the cattle.
00:17Obviously, the cattle need to be big, they need to be shy of the early maturing type,
00:21is my type of animal as well, but just big, shy, big, you know, cattle at the show, plenty of potential for the yield.
00:29That's what our process is chasing, but they need to be distributed as well, but overall, you know, that muscle attribution
00:35and, you know, eye muscle area, fat distribution, fat coverage is a big thing to look for.
00:45I think it's, a lot of it's just, I've been lucky to learn from a lot of good people, but also it's
00:52dedication. If you're the first to the barn in the morning and the last to leave at night, and you're preparing your cattle for a long period,
00:59you know, you give yourself every best chance, so if you select your cattle right, you put the work in,
01:06you know, it's a reasonable measure for success, and I think that goes for anything that anyone does.
