00:07The dilemmas of journalism.
00:09In the world of journalism, quality and depth are undoubtedly the pillars that have sustained our profession and mission throughout the years.
00:16This was essentially the core message I conveyed recently to a group of aspiring university journalists,
00:22helping them envision the future that awaits them.
00:25I told them that today, more than ever, these values are essential,
00:29especially in an environment where digital platforms and social media dominate the dissemination of information.
00:36However, I also made it clear that it's important to understand that these platforms, despite their immediacy and reach,
00:43do not always guarantee the truthfulness and depth of content.
00:47The speed at which news spreads in the digital realm often comes with a dangerous neglect of fact-checking,
00:54opening the door to the dreaded fake news.
00:57This is where print media and journalists who prioritize quality over quantity play a crucial role.
01:03The depth and detailed analysis, elements more feasible in print journalism,
01:07allow readers not just to receive the news but to understand it in its full context.
01:12Now we face a challenge.
01:14How do we combine the skills offered by digital tools with the need to maintain quality and depth in our work?
01:20The answer is not to reject technology but to learn to use it as a complement, not as an end in itself.
01:26So what should we do?
01:28Do not sacrifice quality for speed.
01:31It's true that immediacy is a demand of modern journalism,
01:34but it should never come at the expense of the truthfulness and depth of the content.
01:39Before publishing, verify the information, cross-referencing sources to ensure that what we offer is appropriately contextualized.
01:47Use digital tools wisely.
