A performance of the "Toshima jinku" from the suite "Tairyō utaikomi", an Miyagi min'yō, with lyrics. 宮城県民謡の「大漁唄い込み」の中の「遠島甚句」の演奏と歌詞、簡単な説明です。
--
Meaning of the lyrics:
The Kuroshio Current offshore flows as fast as an arrow.
It serves as a test of skill for the precious boatmen.
Let them catch fish in a fixed net and dress them up in great fishing celebratory costumes.
I would like to see the expressions on the faces of the senushi and taibō [these are the positions of those responsible for managing the fixed nets.]
Three white-sailed boats can be seen off Hashima, and your ship stands out the most among them.
--
Description:
Tairyō utaikomi is a suite of songs that were originally different min’yō. Toshima jinku is often sung after Saitarabushi (refer to the musical score. This is an example from a 2016 recording with a different melodic variation,) but in some cases, as in this recording, it is sung after Doyabushi. There are also several similar min'yō in the neighborhood. Although the song title includes "jinku", it is not a bon odori (bon dance) song but an oar-paddling song.
