00:00You two in here are brilliant. Like, what a power pairing. Geoff, for Zeus, did inspiration
00:10strike from anywhere external or was it all from your own mind?
00:15I used my imagination and the inspiration when I was with the great Janet McTeer playing
00:19with her. It gives you everything that anyone would need for anything. But Charlie Cavell
00:24is so brilliant, wrote that show End of the F***ing World, is so brilliant, and wrote
00:29a script that had something profound and darkly hilarious in it, very moving, and I think
00:36an important idea in it, and a character that was complicated, charismatic, and cruel and
00:41rich, so that's where I got my character from. But the idea is that when somebody abuses
00:49power, are there right-thinking people around to stop that and make a change?
01:00Janet, you were playing this wonderfully sexually empowered woman in Hera. Like, how much fun
01:08is it to play a character like that on screen opposite Geoff as well?
01:12Oh, it was amazing. I mean, he's just brilliant for a star that we know him for, but brilliant
01:18And also we had such fun, and we worked very well together. So we giggled a lot, we worked
01:23a lot, we threw it around a lot, we riffed with it, whilst then coming back to the brilliant,
01:29brilliant script that Charlie wrote. And, you know, it always starts with the script.
01:34You know, if the script isn't good enough, then you're just making something good that
01:40isn't good. And the script was fantastic. But also what was amazing about Charlie is
01:44that we sort of, as we went along, Charlie worked with what we gave as well. So I think
01:53the dynamic between our characters, between us, our relationship changed because of what
01:58we brought to it together, I think. And because we had such fun, and we can, as you see, go
02:08head-to-head, which not many people can with Mr Good.
02:12Well, look at us.
02:13I mean, I couldn't do it. Look at me down here. I couldn't do that.
02:16So that was kind of fun. And yes, and playing here was just, I mean, a dream. She's a dream
02:23part.
02:24I hear there was a lot of singing. I know everyone's going to ask you this. What kind
02:27of singing was going on on set?
02:30All kinds of singing.
02:31Singing.
02:32Singing. Always. All the time.
02:35Singing, singing. Everybody's singing as we go. We're on the upward trail.
02:44Every day. All the time.
02:46Days and days and days we just spent singing. It was great. Kept us up. It kept us happy.
02:51What a difference a day makes. 24 little hours of the day.
02:56Don't make me sing. I can't compete with you. I can't compete with you. Tell me though.
03:02Are you going to go again?
03:03Anything you can do, I can do better.
03:05I can do anything better than you.
03:07No, you can't.
03:08Yes, I can.
03:09No, you can't.
03:10Yes, I can.
03:11No, you can't.
03:12Yes, I can. Yes, I can. Yes, I can.
03:13There we go.
03:14We got the duet. We got the duet. Tell me though, if you two were gods, as Janet and
03:19Jeff, what kind of gods would you be? Because obviously Zeus is very vengeful in this. So
03:24what kind of gods would you two be?
03:26In real life?
03:27In real life.
03:29In my real life, I live in the middle of the woods and the thing I struggle with the most,
03:34I know this is ridiculous, it's quite pathetic, is that I cannot bear to see little animals
03:40that die on the roads. And I can't bear to see animals that aren't loved. I would, in
03:46my next life, apart from being Prime Minister, or indeed President of virtually anywhere,
03:54I would like to rescue animals, except I'd cry too much. But that's what I'd like to
04:01do in my next life. I'd like to have a huge, huge, huge, huge, huge farm and rescue any
04:06animal that needed a bit of love.
04:08The caring gods. How about you, Jeff?
04:13I would enjoy being part of her regime as many as her.
04:18You could come and play the piano and settle them all down.
04:21Or court jester, or musical entertainment, whatever you wanted. And as for myself, I
04:26would support in any way I could your benevolence and acts of kindness toward every creature
04:33on this miraculous planet.
04:35I know.
04:36And every, that includes homo sapiens too. If they could get along and behave themselves
04:42and clean up their mess, that would be...
04:44That would be nice.
04:45If you directed me to do so.
04:47And if we did all that to song.
04:49Yes, yes.
04:50If we did all that to song.
04:51If we ruled the world every day.
04:55You just have to say one thing.
04:59But to be fair, you are a god to many already, Jeff.
05:02He is.
05:03You are.
05:04He is a god already.
05:05I'm a humble student.
05:07No, there's a lot of people that are like, I want to live in the world where Jeff Goldblum
05:10is god. Like, absolutely.
05:12He sort of already is.
05:14Yeah, you are. You have to just accept it. The man, the myth, the legend literally describes
05:19you.
05:20It just says that.
05:21On the day that I was born, the angels got together and decided to create a dream come
05:26true.
05:28There will be music filling the world. It'll be wonderful.
05:30And just tell me, before you go, season two. I know that they haven't announced anything
05:35yet, but what would you like to see for your characters if there was a season two? Because
05:40I feel like it needs one. Like, I very much want one.
05:43Well, I'm not sure we can say anything about that really.
05:47What you would like? Not necessarily what's going to happen.
05:51I think I'm going to have to pass on that question because I think it would be too much.
05:54I think it would give away too much.
05:56I'm already thinking about... I'm going to skip season two. I'm already thinking all
06:00the way to season 14. We're going to run longer than Bonanza.
06:05In season 14?
06:06And 60 minutes. Yes, and in season 14, you...
06:10What am I doing in season 14?
06:12I have some good ideas.
06:13Uh-huh.
06:14But they're musical.
06:16It's going to be a musical.
06:17I would expect nothing less. Nothing less. Guys, thank you so much for just being serenaded
06:24by the two of you. Honestly, a highlight of my career. Thank you so much, guys. The show
06:29is honestly great, so thank you.
06:31Thank you very much.
06:32Lovely to see you.
06:33Thank you very much.
06:34Thank you, thank you.
