00:00A recent audit by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons found that in
00:05three years, the amount of Brits who have needed medical treatment or corrective surgery
00:09after having had cosmetic surgery overseas has surged by 94% in three years. The so-called
00:16surgical tourism is reportedly on the rise.
00:19The association claimed that increasing numbers of people flying overseas for cosmetic surgery
00:23stems from Brits seeking to look like their celebrity idols. The association also estimates
00:29that the average cost to the health service of treating a Brit botched overseas is around
00:34£15,000.
00:35It's been reported that over a million foreigners visit Turkey for medical procedures every
00:40year with 150,000 of them being British. According to data reported by Statistica, some of the
00:45most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in Turkey in 2022 included liposuction and
00:50breast augmentation. It's reported that the number of British citizens travelling to Turkey
00:54increases faster than any other nationality.
00:58But does the news of surgeries going wrong overseas prove enough of a deterrent?
